A group of us (15) were running late again (2nd time here) and got there at 3:30 PM on Saturday afternoon. Wouldn't you know it..the cruisers were all out except 3...my fault for getting there late. We quickly snatched those and got some quads and doubles. We pickup some more cruisers as they were checked in. Workers were super nice and gave us great discount at the end because they were short of what we were looking for....wait, that was my fault though. The entire group was happy, and I was happy. We went on a micro vacation with the kids and wanted to get them surfing lessons. We chose Zacks because it was convenient, right on the shore at Main street. I was a little nervous cause I read online surfing school site and they were pretty expensive. I was pleasantly surprised at the cost of 75.00 per kid which included the lesson and they could KEEP the suits and board ALL DAY if they wished. The lesson was with two other men, and my two kids, so they try to take them out in groups. It lasted an hour and a half. The instructor David stayed in the water the whole time. Dave must have been surfing for a long time, so he knows how its done. The owners Joseph and his dad were super nice and they even offered us the parents a couple of chairs to sit. We will definitely visit next time we are in town to rent surfboards again. read more

Cool burger shack right on the beach with reasonable prices. They also have hot dogs, tacos, burritos,fish and chips, ice cream novelties, frosty's north of the pier. Between the pier and Zacks they often set up a portable stage where surf guitar bands play, so you can dine al fresco while lisening to some great surf guitar music with a veiw of the beach. They also have a area with table and palm fron umbrellas to cool off under. They also have a open grill in front to cut down on crowds. Fresh made lemonade is availabe as is breakfast. Surf board rental is there too. Good fast food with one of the best veiws on the one of the best beaches in Southern California. read more

These guys (ACE, BUDDY) are awesome. We (family of four) rented a bike from them, and let our teenage daughter drive. During her drive she tipped it on its side and scraped her knees pretty bad. We weren't far from the shop so we took it back and explained what happened and they didn't even care about the bike and immediately called lifeguard to come bandage and examine our daughter to make sure she was ok. They were so awesome with her and my five year old boy and totally took care of us. Lifeguard was also great and took care of her. I would definitely rent from them again. read more

My husband and I first ate lunch. We had the seafood platter and it was awesome. Then we decided to take surf lessons. Aaron was great, he even carried my board to the lesson. We only paid for an hour but he stayed until we were comfortable. We had such a blast. The entire staff was friendly and laid back. The worst owner and terrible customer service! Hides behind his veteran status and never pays anyone what he owes? His temper is out of control, he screams at little children who touch Beach buckets? This place is outstanding! Myself and four teenage boys came to vacation here and they all wanted to rent boogie boards. The staff was so nice and awesome to the boys! We also ate food there which I highly recommend the cheesburger. Yum! Later in the day we decided to rent two bike cars, again the staff was awesome to us and made the boys feel very "cool" per say. They kept saying how they want to go back to they can go to Zack's. I was visiting Huntington Beach from Utah and it was lunchtime. I saw this place right on the beach and thought it looked yummy with decent prices. I ordered the 2 taco combo with rice and beans. My husband got the double cheeseburger and fries. My brother-in-law got the burrito combo. The food came out in about 10 minutes and I was surprised by how small the portion sizes seemed - but after eating my first taco with half of the beans and rice, I was full! The food was delicious. The chicken was cut into perfectly tiny pieces like I prefer. I was sad I filled up so quickly because I really wanted to finish it. It just tasted so good. I checked in on yelp, and a page popped up with a thank you for checking in - here's a free small drink coupon! Use it now or later. I clicked now, and a countdown timer started at 4 hours. That was awesome! 2 hours later, I went back and got my free drink as we were leaving the beach. Oh, there are plenty of tables with decorative hawaiian beach umbrellas above them. The view is awesome of the pier and the beach (this place is right by the paved path that goes through the sand). I will definitely be eating here again next time I'm in the area. My husband said he liked the burger too, and I had a couple of his fries which were yummy. The only bummer was they were out of the ice cream sandwich made with m&m cookies, but that's ok. read more

I just wanted to take a minute and mention how really cool Joe of Zack's was to me this past Sunday.I have been going to the H.B.Pier for about 35 years now.Really it's been that long.I'm a long time body boarder.I look forward to Sundays in the water during the warmer months.A week ago Sunday when I was getting out of the water still in knee deep water taking off my swim fins,a wave hit me i fell and dropped 1 fin.It was gone-quick.I got to the beach last Sunday and I knew I only had one fin and I didn't want to buy a new set-yet.I went into a few stores asking if they had one fin I could buy.All said No.Then the last stop was Zack's on the beach at the Pier.I went in and asked about buying one fin,maybe renting a set .They didn't have one that I could buy,but Joe then turned and looked in a box and pulled out a pretty new medium set of fins and handed them to me and said here,use these today,bring them back at the end of the day.He didn't ask me for anything,nothing at all.He just let me use them.I had never met him before.He was just being very cool to me.Thanks Joe a-lot.Really thanks.It was a fun day in the water.I really appreciate that. I went there today to take a bike ride along the beach. The man who helped us was overly generous and nice. He let us ride for a really good deal and he saved us money. It was very kind of him. The bikes were great and I had a nice, relaxing, and fun time riding today with my family and at the end when we returned our bikes they were very nice and I would love to go back and do it again, it was very nice. I of course recommend them, they were great! There service was very nice I enjoyed the experience. They are definitely a reliable place. I recommend them!!! read more

Had a pretty pleasant experience renting for my first time surfing. Dude helping was pretty nice. They even threw in a free boogie board for my friend who was just gonna go body surfing and the guy helping out let me leave my bag there behind the counter for safe keeping. Total cost of renting 2 boards and a wetsuit for 4 hours came out to $55. Guy said he hooked us up which is true but damn if he didn't it would have been pretty pricy. Still even with the hookup it wasn't super cheap but seemed about the right pricing. The guy even let me leave the bag there behind the counter for safe keeping. I went with my wife and daughter to rent a bike, the guy at the counter was helping us and he asked me for Driver license and I show it to him he said you need to leave it and it will be returned when u get back with the bike, I politely said I will leave you other ID but not my license, he rudely through my money back at me in front of my wife and other customers and said "get out of my store I'm not renting to you and you are not going to tell me how to run my business" I said you dont need to give me an attitude and be rude in front of my wife and 5 year old daughter. He said get out yelling at me...very unprofessional and rude! Told him to lower the tone that my daughter was next to me and he said I dont care get out. This guy is lucky I know better than let a little punk like him get to me but one day he will cross the wrong person and they might not react the way I did. My boyfriend and I stumbled accidentally upon Zack's after being told by a different bike rental spot that they weren't renting bikes that day....weird. In a bad mood we walked down to the beach and found Zack's, right away I was greeted by the owner's son and he ran by the store policy pricing, id policy, ect. He gave me a discount on my rentals and my boyfriend had a bike that was a little too...out of proportion for him (he's 6'6) so the owners son then again made an out of the way gesture and let my boyfriend rent his personal bike. We had fun for the 1hr we rampaged through the beachfront. I overheard the owner also giving the same hospitality to another customer as I paid to leave, it is nice to know people still care about their clients and dont treat them as a dollar sign here. My friends and I rented surf gear here a while ago. The man fitting us with wet suits and surf boards was incredibly and unnecessarily rude to us (I think it was Zach but maybe not). Anyway, I asked him which board he thought would be best for me since I was a first timer and he started berating me and telling me I should just be ready to pay him for a new board because I was "definitely going to break the one I'm renting". I was blown away that he would talk to someone giving him business like that. My friend who was waiting to pay after me simply touched a surfboard and the shop owner began yelling at him and accused him of trying to steal from him because he was black. The racism, name-calling, and threatening demeanor of the shop owner was completely unacceptable. I wish I could give this place zero stars. Read other reviews of this place... My wife paid for parking in the lot next to Zack's so she could bring her two grandkids to the beach for a bit. Her 2 year old granddaughter was inside the car playing with the keys, while her four year old was with his great grandmother on the beach. When my wife shut the door to open the other to get her granddaughter, the 2 year old locked herself in. Fortunately it was very early in the morning and no sun yet. The owner of Zack's came out and suggested very strongly that my wife go to someone he knew to help open the car door. Meanwhile she was already on the phone with the fire department. Long story short - fire department came and was able to get the door open. As my wife was about to take her granddaughter to the beach the owner of Zack's returned and yelled at my wife, telling her she could be put in jail for locking her granddaughter in the car!! My wife responded that it was an accident - which it was - and at that point some other woman walked up who had overheard him yelling, and she told him off. I've read other negative reviews and it seems this guy is indeed racist. Other reviewers (mostly Asian women) have said so and my wife is also Asian. BEWARE OF THIS GUY! He's bad news and has NO BUSINESS operating a store where he yells at any customer (or in this case not a customer but simply someone parking their car!!) read more

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. I have never written a review on anything before but I will be sure to share the most HORRIBLE customer service experience I have ever encountered. The owner of this business is a joke and a disrespectful a-hole. I arrived at 8 am, when they open, to try and rent a wetsuit and they were still closed so I called back at 8:15 and asked if they had wetsuits available, he responded by saying yes just come on down so I came back at 8:20am. When I got there the owner told me they were busy and would be able to help me in 15! 35 minutes after they were supposed to be open and not one other person was in line or in the entire store! I said that their yelp says they open at 8:00 and that I already knew my size suit and would take 2 minutes of their time and be on my way as I was in a rush for to meet some others. He responded extremely rude and disrespectful, saying this is my f-Ing shop and I will run my business however I choose. He even attempted to get in my face and position himself as if he wanted to get into a physical altercation! I will NEVER come to place, even if all the other surf shops and restaurants in HB were closed and I had nowhere else to go.
