I LOVE Mediterranean food and this has now replaced Open Sesame for quick delivery Mediterranean that's delicious and filling cause it's faster and cheaper. I haven't been to a Zankou Chicken in a few years. I'm hoping they haven't all slipped in quality and that today was just an off day. This location is pretty new and it was pretty busy, but for more than $10 for a very small wrap I would think that the quality would be amazing. The wraps were tiny and the pita was dry and crumbly. It's finally open!! We're going to eat now but I'll be back with my full review. But nice location and friendly staff. :) Finished eating... we got the family meal to share. It was plenty of food for our initial meal plus enough left overs for later! I also got 2 wraps to go to take home to my husband who wasn't able to join us. The restaurant is a bit small but they have a cute little patio out front. I foresee parking being an issue here though, especially with the drive-thru Starbucks. It was pretty disappointing. I don't know if it was because it was the end of the day or the person just overcooked the meat, but the ground meat skewers in a Persian restaurant are flavorful and juicy. The hummus was absolutely delicious and the tzatziki had a weird flavor to it. This was my first time the zenco chicken and I had been wanting to try it for quite some time. The place is spotlessly clean and nicely designed. Comfortable. Very modern. The cooking area is also spotless which is always nice to see. I had a very bright and lovely young lady named Phoo Phae explain everything to me and she was very clear did a great job. My wife wanted to try the Kebab combo but we were in a hurry so I just grabbed some chicken with some sides and I will go back again soon to try other things. While I've heard great things about this place, it fell short in several areas. The service was another issue. Welcome to the neighborhood, Zankou. My family has been frequenting Zankou for as long as I can remember, so I was thrilled when I heard that they were opening one closer to home. We stopped in as a whole family during a busy weekday lunch. The vibe was kind of loud and slightly overstimulating as it gets busy in there, but the clean modern aesthetic and nice little patio outdoors helps mellow it out. There were lots of people working on both sides of the counter, you can tell that they are putting in a lot of effort to get everything to fall into place as they have just recently opened. We ordered our food as bowls, which comes with a protein of choice, rice or salad, topped with feta cheese, kalamata olives, and cilantro, as well as two sides. My chicken tarna (think chicken shawarma) with hummus and tabouleh tasted super fresh and was absolutely delicious. They did get one minor detail of our order wrong (my son wanted no olives, but alas...more for me). Their hummus, garlic sauce, pilaf (that's no ordinary basmati rice), and pickled turnips are second to none. Their family pack is the way to go when feeding the kids too. Was craving something healthy and found this place close to the new office. Small Mediterranean place with a fast food feel but healthier in my own opinion. They had the traditional slow turning vertical meat spit with four different types of meat. I didn't wish to deal with sticky hands so bypassed the shawarma and instead went for the tarna bowl with chicken. Had the side of garlic sauce which is always the highlight of any dish although had to pay the price the rest of the day. The chicken was a bit dry but overall a very good dish. I finally got a chance to try Zankou Chicken. Unfortunately I did choose the one day where they were having problems with the system this resulted in a long wait for our food but I didn't mind as the staff was very nice and it wasn't their fault. I got the shish kabob which was my favorite although the chicken was very good too! The cucumber salad was very refreshing and I'd probably get it again. The combo came with soo much food I could not finish it. I also got a large hummus which came with pita bread and I honestly didn't expect the tub to be that big. I will be returning. I have ordered lunch takeout several times and I usually get the Chicken Tarna plate, Tri-tip shawerma, or combo of them both, with the 3 sides of Mutabbal (mostly hummus w/smokey garlic eggplant is the best way I can describe it, YUM!), garden salad (or rice), cucumber salad and tahini sauce. Very tasty Mediterranean food, very few and far in between for Mediterranean other than Pita Pitaki a few miles away... or unless you're willing to drive up to say, Glendale. You can get Falafel as a separate item order, I just wish it could be one of the side items on a combo plate. Otherwise, excellent tasty food, efficient service and staff. There is nothing to look forward to at the franchise place on E Willow St and N Lakewood Blvd. Food lacks taste (spices please), chicken is poor quality (no gristle please) and the place has an unpleasant vibe. Everyone who works there looks pissed off. I ordered the Tarna bowl. Bland chicken. Supposed to be carved off the spit, but it tasted like the sad, shredded chicken from Stater Bros. This was my first visit to any Zankou Chicken and I believe this location is fairly new. This location was really busy, and very small. I had to watch for any diners leaving to scoop a table. It's very crowded and hard to get to the fountain drinks and plastic utensils because guests stand in front it waiting for their food. The interactions I had with about 3 employees were great, friendly and helpful. I ordered the chicken bowl with hummus and cucumber salad. I chose rotisserie chicken. It came with rice too which I didn't know but it was good. The chicken comes shredded, I wish it had a little more flavor but the hummus and olives and this spicy red sauce I asked for helped it out. Overall it's a healthy alternative to fast food and it's a great amount of food for the cost. My group ordered the tri-tip and chicken plates, and they enjoyed their dishes. This review is based on a poor experience with an employee when picking up an online order: Order placed and paid for on their app for pick up on Sunday November 3 at 5:10. I arrived to the restaurant about 5:30. As usual, the place is packed with people waiting to order or receive orders. I go to the counter where orders are awaiting to be picked up. I see my name a reach for my order. Young guy, short dark hair and glasses puts his hand on top of my order and says he needs to see a confirmation number. After a long day of doing cleaning and yard work I had forgotten my phone at home, and told the employee this. He just repeated "I need to see your confirmation number". I pulled out my wallet, showed him my license that matched the name on the receipt, he looked at it, I grabbed my bag of food and he grabbed my order and tried to snatch it back repeating "I need to see a confirmation number". I had to pull my paid for order of food away from this employee, at which point I took my food and left. I understand needing to get a confirmation of who is picking up food because of unethical people, but the actions of grabbing the bag and trying to snatch it out of my hands after he confirmed the name on the receipt matched my ID is just beyond poor customer service. Needless to say I was not only embarrassed but (to use polite terms) I was beyond "upset". When I arrived home I checked my phone, which still had the Zankou app open, nowhere did it say I needed to provide a order number at pick up, nor did the email I received confirming my order. In fact the email doesn't even reference an order number. Zankou you need to do better in training your employees to use some common sense and NOT try and snatch food from someone who already paid for their order and did due diligence to prove they were picking up their own order. read more
