I have driven by this place on numerous occasions but haven't tried it. One day I recently remember and was craving Mediterranean food. I placed an online order and the food was going to be ready in 20-30 minutes. I entered the restaurant and it was clean. They had a pickup section and the girl asked me for my name and handed me my food. I ordered the plate with two meats, cucumber salad, pita bread, garlic sauce and another sauce. The food was so fresh and so delicious. I even had leftovers because it was so much food for one person. It is a little expensive ($23) for the plate but I think it is worth it. Welcome to the neighborhood, Zankou. My family has been frequenting Zankou for as long as I can remember, so I was thrilled when I heard that they were opening one closer to home. We stopped in as a whole family during a busy weekday lunch. The vibe was kind of loud and slightly overstimulating as it gets busy in there, but the clean modern aesthetic and nice little patio outdoors helps mellow it out. There were lots of people working on both sides of the counter, you can tell that they are putting in a lot of effort to get everything to fall into place as they have just recently opened. We ordered our food as bowls, which comes with a protein of choice, rice or salad, topped with feta cheese, kalamata olives, and cilantro, as well as two sides. My chicken tarna (think chicken shawarma) with hummus and tabouleh tasted super fresh and was absolutely delicious. They did get one minor detail of our order wrong (my son wanted no olives, but alas...more for me). Their hummus, garlic sauce, pilaf (that's no ordinary basmati rice), and pickled turnips are second to none. Their family pack is the way to go when feeding the kids too. I have ordered lunch takeout several times and I usually get the Chicken Tarna plate, Tri-tip shawerma, or combo of them both, with the 3 sides of Mutabbal (mostly hummus w/smokey garlic eggplant is the best way I can describe it, YUM!), garden salad (or rice), cucumber salad and tahini sauce. Very tasty Mediterranean food, very few and far in between for Mediterranean other than Pita Pitaki a few miles away... or unless you're willing to drive up to say, Glendale. You can get Falafel as a separate item order, I just wish it could be one of the side items on a combo plate. Otherwise, excellent tasty food, efficient service and staff. Was craving something healthy and found this place close to the new office. Small Mediterranean place with a fast food feel but healthier in my own opinion. They had the traditional slow turning vertical meat spit with four different types of meat. I didn't wish to deal with sticky hands so bypassed the shawarma and instead went for the tarna bowl with chicken. Had the side of garlic sauce which is always the highlight of any dish although had to pay the price the rest of the day. The chicken was a bit dry but overall a very good dish. I finally got a chance to try Zankou Chicken. Unfortunately I did choose the one day where they were having problems with the system this resulted in a long wait for our food but I didn't mind as the staff was very nice and it wasn't their fault. I got the shish kabob which was my favorite although the chicken was very good too! The cucumber salad was very refreshing and I'd probably get it again. The combo came with soo much food I could not finish it. I also got a large hummus which came with pita bread and I honestly didn't expect the tub to be that big. I will be returning. I remember the original Zankou Chicken on Ball. That was good. I looked forward to stopping there after work to pick up my dinner. There is nothing to look forward to at the franchise place on E Willow St and N Lakewood Blvd. Food lacks taste (spices please), chicken is poor quality (no gristle please) and the place has an unpleasant vibe. Everyone who works there looks pissed off. I ordered the Tarna bowl. Bland chicken. Supposed to be carved off the spit, but it tasted like the sad, shredded chicken from Stater Bros. The cashiers were very friendly when I came in this week to order a combo kabob. The food was delicious, and I was greeted as soon as I walked in by two ladies one in a red shirt and another in a yellow shirt. The young girl who took my order was very patient and explained what the items were and what came on each plate. She didn't rush me at all, and I felt comfortable taking my time deciding. The lady in the red shirt was also very kind while packing up my order. They both even offered me a sample of the soup, which was a nice touch don't be afraid to accept it. I didn't catch the cashier's name, but she was a short young lady with a beautiful smile and was very sweet and patient. This review is based on a poor experience with an employee when picking up an online order: Order placed and paid for on their app for pick up on Sunday November 3 at 5:10. I arrived to the restaurant about 5:30. As usual, the place is packed with people waiting to order or receive orders. I go to the counter where orders are awaiting to be picked up. I see my name a reach for my order. Young guy, short dark hair and glasses puts his hand on top of my order and says he needs to see a confirmation number. After a long day of doing cleaning and yard work I had forgotten my phone at home, and told the employee this. He just repeated "I need to see your confirmation number". I pulled out my wallet, showed him my license that matched the name on the receipt, he looked at it, I grabbed my bag of food and he grabbed my order and tried to snatch it back repeating "I need to see a confirmation number". I had to pull my paid for order of food away from this employee, at which point I took my food and left. I understand needing to get a confirmation of who is picking up food because of unethical people, but the actions of grabbing the bag and trying to snatch it out of my hands after he confirmed the name on the receipt matched my ID is just beyond poor customer service. Needless to say I was not only embarrassed but (to use polite terms) I was beyond "upset". When I arrived home I checked my phone, which still had the Zankou app open, nowhere did it say I needed to provide a order number at pick up, nor did the email I received confirming my order. In fact the email doesn't even reference an order number. Zankou you need to do better in training your employees to use some common sense and NOT try and snatch food from someone who already paid for their order and did due diligence to prove they were picking up their own order. read more

Customer service is poor. Seems like if you ask for Sumac, it is a trigger word for terrible service. First they'll lie to your face and say they don't have any, but then they wouldn't be able to make the food without it.... Then they'll tell you they don't give it out, but I've gotten it from them every time since they opened their doors as well as ANY Mediterranean restaurant. Finally, when you finally convince them to provide the sumac, they give you dirty looks and rolling their eyes for being a "needy" customer. Btw, only way I could get them to give me sumac was to threaten them with causing a scene. Instead of just providing a good service, they are lazy and full of attitude. Next time you're there, ask them for sumac and see what kind of pathetic service and reaction they give you. read more

This was my first visit to any Zankou Chicken and I believe this location is fairly new. This location was really busy, and very small. I had to watch for any diners leaving to scoop a table. It's very crowded and hard to get to the fountain drinks and plastic utensils because guests stand in front it waiting for their food. The interactions I had with about 3 employees were great, friendly and helpful. I ordered the chicken bowl with hummus and cucumber salad. I chose rotisserie chicken. It came with rice too which I didn't know but it was good. The chicken comes shredded, I wish it had a little more flavor but the hummus and olives and this spicy red sauce I asked for helped it out. Overall it's a healthy alternative to fast food and it's a great amount of food for the cost. My group ordered the tri-tip and chicken plates, and they enjoyed their dishes. Technically, Zankou is a fast food, but it certainly didn't taste like fast food. One bite and it transports you to a fancy Armenian restaurant at the shore of the Caspian Sea. I ordered the chicken because it's in its namesake, and I have no regret. The meat was roasted perfectly, with crispy bits throughout and slightly charred (in a good way) on a few spots, but the meat retained its moisture. There's a distinct smoky taste from the way it's roasted, and that really enhances the flavor. I replaced the garden salad with tabbouleh, and that's another satisfying choice. The refreshing salad complemented the smoky chicken meat. I also substituted the other side with rice, which also paired well with the chicken. The pita bread was covering the entire plate, so I had to set them to the side to enjoy what's underneath. They were steamy and fluffy at first, but the cooling effect really took a toll on their overall texture. I guess even the best chef cannot defy the laws of physics. Levi V. took my order, and she's friendly and chatty. I could tell that the working staff were happy from the way they interact with each other, laughing and socializing. This gave me a good feeling knowing that the servers were not slaving away preparing my food. Normally I would not comment on the music, but the playlist included some of my favorite songs from the 80's and 90's, and that nicely rounded out the dining experience. By the way, the American Tire Depot next door offers wonderful service. If you need to wait for your new tire, treat yourself at Zankou. It's a great chicken-rubber combination, which definitely beats a rubber chicken. read more

I had lunch there and ordered chicken with basmati rice and cabbage salad. I get to the table and there's no rice. No harm no foul. Samuel talked to the expeditor (who seemed annoyed and said she said he ordered a whole chicken only no rice) Samuel explained I ordered something else for dine in and he got it handled and I had order a chicken to go which came with 4 garlic sauces and I paid for two additional garlic sauces. Check your order before you leave the premises because I got all the home and there are only 4 garlic sauces in the bag. I thought the cashier said it would also include their famous garlic sauce but I didn't get any in my bag. I asked for a side of the harissa hot sauce because reviews online said it is delicious. I found myself a comfortable place to eat and dug in. The food was so good! The pitas come 2 to a bag in their own little plastic bags. Chicken was juicy and flavorful. The hummus was alright and the tahini was good. I really enjoyed my lunch! I was just missing that garlic sauce, and then it hit me....this is toum. Trader Joe's has their own version of it, so since I was too far now from Zankou to go back and get some, I swung by TJ's and grabbed theirs. Perfection! My meal was now complete. Love Zankou! Always have! I'm so happy they finally opened this location! Got the bowl with beef. It was good. The meat portion was a bit small. The bowl came with a choice of protine and 2 sides. You can also do half rice half salad. I also got the 1/2 chicken plate to eat for dinner. You can't really go wrong with that choice. I got hummus, Cucumber Salad, and it came with 2 pita bread. Also, the garlic and hot sauce spread is delicious. Aside from the food wish, they would move the cash registers a bit down away from the rotisserie because it was teally hot by the cash register. If I could feel the heat, I'm sure the cashiers REALLY feel it. Parking also can be crazy since they share the lot with Starbucks as well as Jack n the box, so make sure your patience is with you.
