We used Zapt Movers for a relocation. While we were optimistic based on past experiences, this move resulted in the loss of four luxury handbags. I packed into a wardrobe box, but when the box arrived at our new home, the purses had been removed. Most concerning is that the company failed to conduct a formal inventory check or provide a signed inventory list during the move--a major professional failure. Zapt has since used this lack of documentation to deny our formal claim. I strongly advise future customers to insist on a complete inventory before any items are loaded, as this company has shown they will not take responsibility for items that go missing under their care. I would strongly caution anyone considering Zapt Movers--my experience felt like a clear bait-and-switch and overcharge. When I initially requested a quote, Paulo gave me an estimate that was significantly higher than another company offering 3 movers and a truck. He later offered a "discounted" option for 2 movers, a truck, and an estimated time of 6 hours. I confirmed the logistics of the move and packing with Paulo multiple times. They also heavily oversell their "professional move coordinators"--in reality, good luck communicating with them effectively. On moving day, things immediately went off track. The first crew arrived with two movers, one of whom was supposedly the move coordinator--but he spoke very little to no English, even though I asked for someone that was conversational in English to facilitate communication. After briefly reviewing my items, they claimed the move would require more movers and more time, completely contradicting what had already been agreed upon. After a long and frustrating back-and-forth with Paulo and their operations manager, they decided to replace the crew entirely. This caused a major delay, forced me to reschedule plans at my destination, and added unnecessary time in traffic. The start of the move was chaotic and stressful. Ironically, the second crew that arrived completed the move within the original estimate--2 movers and 6 hours--proving that the initial upsell attempt and all the chaos were completely unnecessary. It got worse after the move was completed. I was given the runaround when I highlighted the failings that occurred during my move, and Zapt showed very poor follow-through. When I raised concerns, they claimed they had given me a "discount" for two hours, implying the job should have taken 8 hours. This is simply not true. The crew worked a total of 6 hours--the exact amount I was charged for. I even have text messages with their customer service confirming the movers started at 11:00 AM and finished at 5:00 PM. Between the attempted upsell, disorganization, delays, and contradictory explanations afterward, this was an extremely frustrating experience--especially given that their pricing was already higher than competitors. I would not trust their estimates or their process. I suggest checking Yelp for highly rated (5.0) moving companies--there are plenty of better options. I should have saved myself the hassle by paying closer attention to Zapt's recent reviews; please note that all their 5-star reviews are short, contain no detail, and are likely written to offset the lengthly negative reviews there prone to receive of late. read more

UPDATE: In response to Camila, we were never offered additional insurance/protections for our televisions. George guaranteed our devices would be safe and secure with the movers wrapping and placing them in a television boxes. We didnt have them mount the TV because when they took it off the previous mount, it was clear they didn't have experience with it. And they were already over time by the time they brought everything to our new place, so no, we didn't want to pay for more time especially after the fallen boxes as well. And to even suggest that the damage was caused by ourselves is ridiculous. Only after we have been in the process of filing our claim that you would insinuate that. No we are not excepting .60 per pound and signing a waiver to say you are released of liability. Are you kidding me? That's not justified compensation for an electronic device that your employee guaranteed would be cared for. Being quick and polite doesn't justify damage. I could go into more details about how other items were mishandled, but I haven't because it's minor. The one major thing damaged you are being dismissive of and it's not excusable. If I could give them 0 stars, I would. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. The guys they had working for them were very polite and worked quickly. HOWEVER, their lack of experience (only 1 guy had been doing this for several years) led to our television being mishandled and broken. Even boxes inside the truck fell over, spilling contents of our things, (have not seen if there was further damage yet). We filed a claim as soon as we realized our TV was broken. We chose to hang it up ourselves and did not plug in before they left to see if there was any damage. The screen is broken in 3 spots, the screen is only lines now. And they will not take responsibility by replacing or refunding us the cost of our TV. Only offering 60 cents per pound...absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. Would never recommend them to anyone. BEWARE: The price was attractive, but unfortunately that was the only positive part of my experience. Numerous items arrived damaged, and before the move I was assured that any damage would be covered through their insurance. When I contacted them about filing a claim, I was told that after their investigation there was nothing they could do and that the items must have already been damaged before the move, which I strongly disagree with based on their condition prior to being packed. The move itself was also extremely disorganized. They attempted to deliver items that belonged to a previous customer's move, and at the same time I'm still missing at least one of my own boxes. Overall, the customer service was disappointing, communication was poor, and the entire experience left me with very little confidence in the company. My wife and I are absolutely pissed at our moving experience with this company. This is the 2nd time that we used them and the 2nd time they messed up our items. We utilized them last year for a local move. During that move, they scratched our brand new dresser. It was not even a year old. Wife reached out to them and they provided her with a refund of $55 and am apology!! She accepted it. Fast forward to our 2nd move. Leading up to the move, we spoke to a representative and informed him that we did not want any issues with our furniture being messed up. We reminded him of the last issue (He automatically knew what we were referring to). He stated that there would be no issues and that they would ensure if it. So we agreed to book with them again. BIG MISTAKE!! Here were the issues: 1st- instead of them asking for support in how to remove the legs off of the dresser, they automatically pulled instead of twisting it off. They ripped off piece of the wood that the leg twists into so now it no longer twists. 2nd- They scratched up our mirror which means that poorly secured it and probably had something laying on top of it. 3rd. They broke a piece of our portable wardrobe closet so nor one side is not held up. We are not willing to accept $55 this go around. I will be emailing them and calling to get a proper solution. TL;DR: this place is a scam and should never, ever be used. The movers--the actual people moving the stuff--are great. Agatha, the customer experience rep, is lovely. The company management, on the other hand, is horrible and should never be trusted. The owner's name is Camila and I'll talk about her below. My story: I booked an 8-10am move and signed a contract for that slot. The night before, I texted since I hadn't heard from them, and they confirmed. Then a bit later (again, the night before the move) they called to say that they accidentally double-booked the move and they couldn't give me the morning slot anymore. They couldn't give me any reasonable explanation, and finally admitted they had just never put me on the moving schedule at all--despite my already having signed a contract and paid a deposit. They agreed to start at 11am instead...then strung me along all the next morning saying they would "be there soon." In the end, they started at 2:45pm, 5-7 hours after the contractually agreed-upon start time!!! It was far too late for me to try and hire other movers, so I was simply trapped waiting. Once they did come, the move was fine up until the unpacking. The management company essentially extorted me by forcing the guys over the phone to keep my things on the truck until I paid them an amount I wasn't comfortable with, but wouldn't speak to me directly so I had no one with decision-making power to negotiate with. I finally got them to an amount I was okay with, and we unpacked...but my partner and I had to pitch in moving furniture with them for the last three hours just to get it done within a reasonable hour. Then, as we were finishing, I got notification by text that they were insisting on me paying the rest of the amount they wanted before they would let the last of my furniture off the truck. I held firm and it seemed like they backed off. I couldn't go to bed until they finished so wasn't in bed until after 1am. Throughout the whole process, I was dealing with management (Camila) through Agatha despite my asking many times--she was too cowardly to speak to me directly or do anything for me. Now I still have to fight them saying I owe more money for who knows how long. Their trucks say "making your move quick and easy!" and nothing is further from the truth. Lastly: If you see anyone from the company comment on this review later apologizing, I can assure you it is for appearances so that you might also move with them and they can fleece you, too. These movers are horrible!!! My girlfriend booked these guys to help her move in late February. Her place was completely packed up. The movers said they'd be there Saturday morning. They then texted saying that they're running late. Then, they texted again saying that the battery on the moving truck was dead. Later, after calling numerous times (that they didn't answer), they texted that they would have to reschedule for the next day. I was furious!!! The next morning they finally arrived later than what was scheduled, but did complete the move. They did an ok job, but ended up leaving some "trash" behind that my girlfriend's new landlord discovered on his property. I moved from berkeley to oakland on short notice and had been procrastinating on packing. I booked Zapt the morning of moving out and they were incredibly timely. Mind you -- I only had half of my townhouse packed when they arrived. They said it was okay and would work around me. Within 4 hours I was moved to my new home! They also had all of the materials necessary to protect my items when packing and even disassembled/assembled larger furniture at each location free of charge. I was stressed and felt guilty that my space wasn't organized better for them, but they would check in on me throughout the day and were incredibly patient with the circumstances. Horrible service! A piece of my furniture was missing, they took it but did not deliver to the destination. Intentionally being slow because they kept wanting to collect the hour as much as possible. Shameful! Very shameful! They showed me the clock when I asked when the clock was supposed to start, but then later on charged me 11 mins early and charged another additional 15 minutes even though they have finished 15 minutes earlier. The whole process should only took 3.5 hours but ended up taking 5 hours because of how intentionally slow they are. They did a lot of unnecessary things, instead of taking the furnitures and all of the ready to take boxes, they were taping a few boxes that I was still working on them, and I don't need them to tape the boxes !!! They took the pictures of my all furnitures and counted all the boxes but never did a walkthrough with me. What are the pictures for, if at the end one piece of furniture was missing? They took time to call their boss saying that it would take more than 3 hours to move. They also unwrapped the plastics they used to cover the furnitures which was unnecessary, since they knew it would add up the time. I called and complaint and the guy who talked to me was very rude and said why did the movers stole your furniture? Unless they dropped it at Goodwill, we could not find any furnitures left in the truck. There are no solutions offered by this company, all they did was sending very unprofessional movers who can't speak English and I could not communicate and directed them which made the whole moving process very stressful. Updating my review from October because I just finished unpacking. First, on the San Francisco side the movers just left without packing my kitchen (I paid for packing services). I had to get boxes, pack my kitchen myself, and wait five hours for them to come back. Now I just realized that they lost two sentimental framed prints. I had assumed they it in my painting box but when I opened it last night they weren't in there. I'm really disappointed. One poster was from the John Williams concert at the Hollywood Bowl and I can't get it replaced. The other was a print of a woman sleeping on Venus fly traps that I can't find anywhere online. The process of moving was simplified by the staff who handled the booking. And the movers who came were extremely polite and efficient. They worked continuously packing and securing furniture. Extremely disappointed with Zapt Movers. I would rate 0 star if I could. We had a move scheduled for 1pm, and they didn't show up without any proactive updates or clear communication. We had to keep calling just to find out what was going on. At first, they said the team would arrive "soon", then later told us one of the movers had broken their hand and they were sending other movers over. The estimated arrival kept getting pushed... first to 3pm, 4pm, then 5pm. After more back and forth (with us always having to call for updates), they finally canceled after 6pm. It was incredibly frustrating and stressful to be left hanging on such an important day. Things happen, but the lack of transparency and accountability made a bad situation worse.
