I had contacted Ian's Movers about moving a new spa. It was being delivered to our driveway and I needed it moved to our backyard. They gave me an estimate for 4 men, 3 hour minimum, extra charges for the truck and that it was heavy. I'd had difficulty in finding someone so decided to go with them. Had things lined up and got a note back that they had found specialists for the job. Great. Then no one showed up. When I called, I was told "oh, there was a typo. We had NOT found specialists. Wow! I had hired these folks to help my aunt move quite a few items from her home to storage. She needed a lot of help and we had Ian pack away everything in a room and help us move it to storage. EDIT: I need to edit this review because of what happened during check out. At first, I was going to let it go but I feel it's necessary to let others know. To be clear, THIS IS NOT a knock on their actual work. I stand by my original post on that. HOWEVER, when they were done with the work - they gave us the final amount. We had already calculated the tip and so we had said here's $X - that okay? To which he replied "People normally give us 20%". ...I mean, yes. But also, the amount we were giving was WAY over the amount WITHOUT TIP he quoted us...which meant obviously we were tipping him. Which, by the way, was 20%. So that...was odd. We had to say "Yes, that's 20%". THEN, he asked me to write a review on Yelp because his manager asked him to ask everyone. So I said "Of course!" But then he just stood there. And I realized...he meant I needed to do it RIGHT then and there. With him watching. And it as so. awkward. So I asked "Oh, you mean right now?" And he said, "Yes.". So I wrote the review on Yelp. Then he asked to take a picture of it to show his manager. At this point I was just mindblown that this was happening. Then he asked me to do it again but on Google. So I just copied and pasted...and he took another picture. Look. I have no problem with asking for reviews. I get it! BUT do not make me do it in front of you, take a picture, and then ALSO expect me to give you a 20% tip. It felt forced and honestly I felt bad feeling poopy about it because they did great work. I don't know if it's management making them do this or what but it was super unprofessional at the end :( --- ORIGINAL REVIEW: They did such great work for a TON of stuff. We were coming from an apartment up two flights of stairs to a house and they were able to do everything easily. They were careful to wrap everything and were very delicate with everything. They even helped undo our king bed frame which we had trouble with - no questions asked. They were attentive the whole time and were great to work with. Very clear and fair pricing. This company was very responsive when I sent a quote request. The quote was comprehensively detailed. I picked them because they were so responsive, and also they were one of the more reasonably-priced quotes I got (out of 8). The truck was much larger than I had expected for my studio apartment move, so I'm glad I saved a space in my building driveway overnight for them to pull in. The guys, Bucky and Sasha, worked hard the whole time and they both had great attitudes. I am very comfortable with the total amount of time this job took. The work was done very professionally: all furniture and artwork was well wrapped with shrinkwrap and well protected with heavy blankets. They were very good at furniture disassembly and reassembly, that all went very smoothly. There was no damage to my stuff, and no damage to the apartment I was leaving or the house I was moving into. They handled moving my stuff down safely down three floors at the departure site and moving stuff up one floor into the house with no complaint the whole time. Heavy boxes were moved with a dolly gently lowered one step at a time down the stairs at my departure place. They reported an hour drive time between SF and Berkeley, which is believable because of the traffic at the time we went (it took me about 15 minutes less, but I was driving in a small car). The final bill was completely legitimate. I recommend tipping the workers at least 10% of the total move cost. It's money well spent. They deserve it. I have two minor concerns: 1. The movers did not wear any personal protective equipment - I would like to see them using gloves and kneepads at a minimum for heavy lifting. 2. Rather than giving my credit card number over the phone, I would prefer for them to use Square with an iPhone or some other service in order to charge my credit card. read more

Hello everyone! These days have come ;) I mean moving days. I needed to move some of my items from my apartment complex to storage. I know across the Bay Area many moving companies are operating. And I decided to use perfect Yelp tools for requesting a Quote. It allows me to send a request and receive an estimate from many moving companies. Using it I found these guys - Ian's Movers. First of all, I picked up my ears, because they didn't have any Yelp reviews, but it seemed my move wasn't super hard, so I decided to give a chance to them. More of this, they gave me the best estimate. And running ahead, it worth it. Not to mention, the manager of Ian's Movers was very friendly and contactable as trough the chatting on Yelp as on the phone. The customer service of this business was perfect. They were very flexible in time and we scheduled my move exactly the time I wanted to. The employees were very accurate and came to my place exactly in time. These guys fully equipped, I saw door stoppers, scotch tape, shrink tape, new straps in the moving truck, etc. I asked them before to get some moving boxes and they brought boxes of three sizes, so it was up to me which ones I need to use. It is very useful if you want to save some money if you don't have many items and don't need large boxes. I have to say my movers did a great job of transporting my tricky bed. As you can see in my picture from the review, my bed consists of many parts and about a million screws. I am sorry I didn't take more pictures but my day was crazy. As you can see as well, I have got a very expensive floor and I really want back my rent deposit, so I asked guys follow the rule "No damage, no cratches". And everything was done with no even one scratch. I want to say, these movers were pretty fast and professional. My total time was 3 hours and 12 minutes (yes, these guys are giving you a very accurate time so you can check them and make sure you are not overpaying). It was very nice of them to give me a 12 min discount, so I paid 321$ (107$ per 1 h). As a conclusion, I would say, I truly recommend Ian's Movers for your moves. We recently hired Ian's Movers for a close move from one 3 bed rental to another in SF. We had a fair amount of stuff but nothing too crazy - 2 full size beds and bedframes, 3 desks, a couch and tv, a dining table, some misc furniture and maybe 30 boxes. Pros: - Good communication with Ann leading up to the move and the movers on day of - Large truck capacity - Kept most of our furniture assembled since plenty of space! - Wrapped most of our furniture for safe moving Cons (mainly one...) - One of the movers wasn't wearing his mask properly and removed it completely ~halfway through the process. We understand it's tough physical labor and kept all the windows open for circulation but wanted to raise that as a potential concern for others as it made us slightly uncomfortable as well. - We hired 3 movers at the rate of $174/hour and after ~45 min, one of the movers had to leave early due to an emergency. We completely understood and received a quote of $134/hour for the two movers for the rest of the time which we thought was reasonable. The move was definitely slower after that as two ppl were needed to lift the heavier items and previously one mover would move boxes or stretch wrap furniture while the other two moved larger items. What I discovered after they left is that the rate on their website for two movers is $124! So we ended up paying an extra $45 and most likely had a much longer move than needed, finishing up after 5.5 hours with less time in the day to unpack and clean our old apt. Rather than the total cost, we felt like it was dishonest to charge us a higher rate than what's listed on their website given the inconvenience and sudden change. Overall we had a decent move but will just say we're disappointed in the lack of honesty around pricing. read more

Alex and Geha helped my girlfriend and me to load the contents of our 1 bedroom SF apartment into a U-haul that we would be driving to Southern CA. Both of them were extremely COVID-safe and wore masks for the duration of their work. We were impressed by their speed and the care that they took to wrap up all of our fragile items. We were up two narrow flights of stairs (no elevator) and they managed to move everything down extremely quietly so as to not bother our neighbors. We encountered an issue with our too-small U-haul (our error, not the mover's), which they tetris-ed to the best of their ability (and fit way more into it than we ever could've managed to). They helped us to solve the issue rapidly by offering to store the overflow items within their storage facility, and they handled that portion within just 1 extra hr & a half so that we could get out onto the road ASAP. In total, it took about 6 hours, so they could easily complete other 1 br's under 5 hrs. They both had great, calm attitudes throughout this moving process that didn't go as planned. We thought the prices were reasonable for the quality of their work ($124/hr in cash for 2 movers). We 100% would recommend them to others! read more
