I love this place for their fusion food! We always order to go as the place seems kind of small to eat at. Veggie Samosas - crispy and cooked to perfection. Not spicy though which is a little disappointing but still flavorful Chicken tikka masala thali- not spicy but creamy and flavorful. Not as much food of a serving as I would hope. Comes with rice, a salad, and daal (also not spicy enough) Crispy chicken burger - tasty but really would have loved to amp up the spice on this! Do yourself a favor and go to Palo Alto Zareens instead. I am not even sure why the owners keep this restaurant open. The food quality is much worse, price is as high as the Palo Alto Zareens, service is worse, seating is worse. I have tried this place several times to save time and each time it has been a disappointment. Had the beef nihari: their weekend speciality which is amazing in the Palo Alto Zareens and it was terrible! It had either too fatty pieces of beef or uncooked hard beef chunks. Unfortunately, the takeout containers are PLASTIC, not compostable or recyclable, so although for years we were getting food here *weekly*, it pains me, but we simply cannot continue to patronize Zareen's until they switch to 100% paper or aluminum containers. :( By state and local regulation, restaurant containers must be either 100% compostable (paper) or aluminum -- NO PLASTIC ALLOWED. The "compostable plastic" is not actually compostable in Mountain View -- it just ends up in landfill -- and the plastic containers that Zareen's uses are not even "compostable" anyway. They end up in landfill! I just can't do it anymore. :( It makes me so sad, because I LOVE the food! I would really love to continue to patronize Zareen's, and once they switch to paper or aluminum, we'll be back. I came after seeing this restaurant recommended on the Michelin Guide (Michelin plate recognization) and after reading the many great reviews I found online, I knew I had to give this place a try! The restaurant is located in a shopping plaza like area which has plenty of parking. It's not hard to find either the restaurant or a place to stop really quickly to pickup takeout. Because the pandemic, Zareen's is operating more like a takeout only place though there are a few small tables outside to sit at. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala meal which came with daal lentils, and a small portion of salad and Basmati Rice. The salad was ok but the real star was the Tikka Masala with its char grilled chicken and rich tomato flavors. The chicken was so juicy and paired so well with the rest of the curry. I also had the famous Memoni samosas which are a must try! Supposedly the recipe for this is only know by a select few worldwide and I'm not surprised they want to keep it such a secret. This dish was recommended by the Michelin inspectors and I can truly say they were fantastic. They're super crispy, seasoned excellently, and delicious. read more

People missing their home food will go any distance to get it and if a place is as good as this driving 20 miles each way is a Naan issue ! Located in a small strip mall, Zareen's unpretentious location is a stark contrast to the authentic mind blowing fare they serve . We got the Chapli Kabab, Shami kabab , Lamb Gosht , Chicken Tikka Masala , Sheermal and naan . It had been many years I have had Sheermal and the sheer joy I felt after the first bite could not be described in words. I wouldn't go into too much details because absolutely everything we ate was phenomenally good and really ample portion wise . We had a lot of leftovers even after all of us certainly overate but no one is complaining about that .I also found the pricing appropriate . There wasn't much in terms of service but the kitchen does not take too long for the food to get out and we waited perhaps 20 minutes after we ordered before our food arrived. Some of the best Bay Area Indian food I've ever had! This place was recommended to me by a friend and they have multiple locations between mountain view and Palo alto. I got the silver spoon paratha and 2 veggie samosas. The silver spoon paratha can be more of an appetizer depending on how hungry you are but despite its relatively small appearance, it is very filling. The samosas are perfectly crispy and you HAVE to dip them in the given sauces to make the most out of them. The only downside of this location is that they, sadly, don't have any indoor seating so you have to do takeout. Next time I go, I hope to try their mango lassi! read more

Looking for a quick but good dinner on Sunday night we came across this place. WAIT: There was 1 person in front of us but the inside was pretty bustling. I think we were a bit early since it was barely 6pm. Some people were getting to go and some were eating inside and outside so if you come at a good time it shouldn't be too bad. ATMOSPHERE: Very vibrant inside with murals and things on the walls, people wrote things on another wall and these little signs that give you some courtesies (50 minute table limit, don't drink more than 3 cups of the chai) etc. It's a bit loud from the talking and the kitchen but I thought it was lively. The inside is pretty small with probably only 7 or so tables. You can also sit outside if the weather is good enough, which can seat more. FOOD: You order at the front then get a table number and then sit down. CHICKEN TIKKA PLATE - I forget the exact name but it's the area with kebabs and other dishes that come with some sides, rice and you can add half naan (2 pieces) for about $0.85 or you can get full naan for $1 something. It's a good amount of food for $10+. You get a little dish of chicken tikka masala, a scoop of basmati rice, lenti/daal, some salad and cucumber side. For 1 person it's plenty. One thing to note is that the chicken tikka is spicy! I can't handle spicy so I was dying and had to drink lots of water and eat rice. The flavor though was very good and the chicken tender and not dry at all (I think they use dark meat). I really enjoyed it. My only gripe is that the naan wasn't what I was used to. It wasn't a bit flaky and chewy or thick, it was kind of like a pita bread or a tortilla. Very flat and more bread-y than other naan I've had. My husband got some of the chai (it's free) and he said it was really good. Overall, I would definitely be back because of the quality of the food and the price. read more

The lamb was a little too spicy for my friend but she was a trooper and ate the whole thing and enjoyed it. My aloo tikki meal could have came with chutneys (I don't really enjoy the chutneys in the bottle) but overall super flavorful dal and madras curry. A super tasty Indo-Paki spot located right by Google and the Century movie theaters! I've also been to their Palo Alto location, which is a bit more spacious and relaxed, but the food at either never disappoints! The chai while you wait is SO great, and we were able to snag a spot indoors after a fairly short wait (though there are patio tables outside)! We got some veggie samosas to share, which go great with the mint chutney they have! It was super tasty and perfect to split. I also got the paneer tikka masala a la carte with naan and I cannot recommend this enough -- this tikka masala base is probably some of the best I've had! They are so aromatic but the only options are meat :( - Can you please use all-compostable containers for your meals (see pic below)? I saw so many positive reviews about Zareen recently that I had to go and find out for myself. We ordered online through Yelp for pick up and got: 2 orders of Chicken Tikka Masala, Silver Spoon Roll, Lamb Gosht, and a side of Tandoori Naan (about $60 before tip). I gotta say, they completely live up to their 1,900+ reviews averaging a 4.5 star rating- the food was amazing. In fact, it was so good, I completely forgot to take a picture of everything because we were starving and demolished it all at rapid speed once we got home. The chicken tikka masala was creamy and spiced to perfection. It wasn't overly salty and even the rice was made to my ideal texture. Usually I don't prefer mutton/lamb/goat when it comes to Indian food, but the lamb here was so tender and flavorful. The naan was a great addition to the curry and it had a slight buttery taste to it so you could honestly eat it on its own. I liked the silver spoon roll, but was a little disappointed by the small size. Probably wouldn't get that again, but it was nice to try it. Everything on the plate was high tier, high quality food. I loved everything on the plate. My only rant is...PLEASE GET NEW CAPS. There is no hole to stick ur straw in for the mango lassi. I've tried their store in Palo Alto and have to say I was a disappointed with this particular location. We came for an early dinner and line was out the door. There is no indoor seating and limited outdoor seating which may require you to wait about 25-30 minutes before a table opens up. Line moved very slowly as everyone was ordering via the kiosk. We thought the food was delicious, but portion sizes were so small considering the pricing. We ordered their Chicken Boti Sizzler, Grilled Chicken Roti Thali, 2 samosas, and their masala fries. We're pretty sure the chicken was the exact same for both main entrees. The chicken roti sizzler doesn't come with any sides so make sure you note that before ordering. The samosas were small but flavorful and crispy. We would not get the fries again as it was literally just fries with mild seasoning. This experience is being directly compared to the Palo Alto location which we strongly recommend visiting as it seems as though they emphasize pick up here. Unfortunately, we won't be coming back but recommend you give their other locations a try! It does get pretty crowded at rush hours so we usually go in for an early dinner. It's a pretty cozy space with indoor and some outdoor seating. The space is decorated with books and feel-good vibes. They also offer complimentary chai tea that is so delicious (resist the urge and limit yourself to 3 cups). We've tried the punjabi burger w/ masala fries, chicken tikka masala thali, and madras chicken curry. Customer service was spot-on and no complaints about the food. The food here is flavorful and pretty authentic. My friend who had just been in India said it satiated her craving for Indian food, and did not give her the same fear of food poisoning she had while in India. The paneer was really rich in flavor and had a buttery taste to it that was hard to resist. The lamb ghost was also very nice, and not too spicy. I'm sure you could ask for extra spice if you wanted. Overall the actual food was wonderful, and the free three shots of chai were a perfect add on. The main thing to note is that this place is really small. Heading back from the movies, we came across the other location. They are mostly the same, but not entirely. This location is much smaller than the CA St, both dining room, outside seating, and kitchen. The menus are similar, but offer a few different items and do f offer some items that CA St does. Being that CA St is always out if Chicken Boti, it was nice to finally try it, and oh so worth the wait. They also have a stuffed parantha called The Silver Spoon, which I will be trying soon. The nice thing about this location is there is a (shared) parking lot, much easier than street parking. Whichever location you try, the food is delicious. There is good reason there is always a line out the door (but it does move quickly, and staff assists with food ding a table). read more

This is an overdue review. My first time dining here I was with mom and we both wanted Indian food so I hopped onto Yelp and found this place. We went into the small restaurant and saw pretty much 90% Indian people. This was a good sign. The better sign was that there was a line of people getting take out (pre-COVID era) that were 100% Indian. I had the Lamb gosht and mom had the chicken tikka plate, plus we ordered two naans because naan! Glad there was naan to sop up the remainder sauce at the end. Everything was so delicious. There was daal, cilantro hot sauce, rice, curry and free chai! I was so thrilled and so was mom with the food and the service, albeit slow due to the large number of people there. That was about 2 years ago. Now it's a staple lunch order of chicken tikka plate and the palak paneer with a side of naan. That dish is Z-elicious! - CHEAPSKATE TIP: you want to be super frugal like me... Buy Naan at Costco for $7 for a 10 pack and heat it up in your toaster oven and make this a full-on dinner. We placed an order for delivery from Zareen's and it was not the best experience. The food, although good, came 20 minutes late and the quantity was also quite inconsistent across dishes. The chicken samosas were so small that it took just 2 bites to finish one of them. The Silver Spoon Paratha Roll with Chicken Kebab was also much tinier than expected, but it did taste good. We also got the Punjabi Chicken Burger, and the quantity on that was impeccable. The burger was pretty big, and there were loads of masala fries on the side. The chicken in all the dishes was quite juicy and cooked just right. My boyfriend really really liked the roll (was his favorite among the three), if only it was larger! There wasn't a line when we got there but the line immediately went out the door right after we ordered. After you order, you have to find a table. We were able to find a table pretty quickly and get some free chai tea to sip on while waiting for our food. The food came out pretty quickly. I ordered the chicken tikka masala meal. The chicken was very flavorful and not dry at all, and the sides of lentils and chutney were delicious. I also ordered a side of naan which came out warm. One slight negative about Zareen's is that because it's so popular, people tend to hover around your table once they see that you're almost done eating. It's a bit of pressure to eat faster and not talk after the meal, but I can't blame that on the restaurant. Overall, it was a good experience, and the food was authentic and delicious. read more
