The puffy bread (Turkish Pyde). Sooo good! Kebab Platter is a must! Love the gorgeous presentation and the perfectly spiced peppers! The selection the full flavor spectrum! Wowza! We went here on a whim, been wanting to try it didn't realize it was by Jose Andres which was a nice surprise. I love anything JA, didn't think he ventured outside his norms. So my expectations were high, ambiance is spacious, nice & modern. The Bar is cute and drinks was good as well. The service was quick in the beginning but took a long time to finally take our order, even longer to get our food. We understand it's Mezez style and nice touch with fresh free pita bread but no sauce so you're forced to order a dip so it's not so plain. We ordered the Hummus w/ ground lamb which was good then Scallops came. We usually expect the plain Basmati rice first along with the main dishes. The Basmati Rice was on a wet side and tasted uncooked and had to send it back. Then the Kofte Beef & Scampi Shrimp came without the Rice unfortunately. It took a long time for the Rice and the other 2 dishes are now cold, butter on the overcooked shrimp is hardening now too. We asked to let the manager know and she offered to get a new one so we sent both back for all of them to come together this time. Finally we got all the food, Beef Kofte was so small w/ a pasty texture not sure if it's supposed to be like that or just tasted weird to me like it tasted almost liver like taste. The Shrimp was cooked better the 2nd time around per my Fiance. The Basmati Rice was still on the aldente & wet side, so not sure if it's meant to be like that. I'm used to dryer Basmati and the Kofte is usually more texture. I've eaten at a lot of good Mediterranean restaurants, enough to tell the difference but that's just mho. We really wanted to like this place but we're just underwhelmed with the food, service, value for the portion. They did offer a complimentary dessert but nothing stood out so we opted out for a discount instead. They took off 3 items which was nice & the right thing to do. I know they're still fairly new & hopefully it gets better if there's a next time.
We came for a birthday lunch and it was a lovely experience! Our server, Joe, was so hospitable, attentive, and friendly! He was always checking in and making sure we were enjoying and had everything we needed. The inside of the restaurant is so beautifully decorated! We felt like we were on vacation! The food was delicious. The complimentary pita bread with pomegranate molasses and olive oil was so lovely and addicting. The pita bread is soft and pillowy. We also ordered the hummus and babaghanoush. Both tasted delicious with the pita bread. My uncle really enjoyed his lamb chops and my aunt enjoyed her Adana (ground lamb) kabob. I took off one star because of the Kebab Platter. The kabobs were absolutely cold. They weren't even warm or room temperature. It was leaning towards the cold side, which makes me think they were reheated or they spent too much time sitting on a cold plate next to the cold salads, which made them cold as well. That was very disappointing, especially for a $70 dish. The lamb kabob was also extremely charred to the point where it had such a bitter taste. I really thought the meat would be better quality here. We also wish the garlic yogurt and the toum had more of a garlic flavor. We didn't taste too much garlic in them. We would all definitely go back though as I do want to try other items. The Adana kabob was good and my aunt and uncle loved their dishes, so next time I'll order something other than the kabob platter!
I would give this place 5/5 for vibe and ambiance! Food is 4/5 - I only got to try vegetarian food / will be back for the non veg food :) Service is 2/5 - lots of people but not very co ordinated. New place - they are figuring it out. Loved the cocktails and sharing plates.
The restaurant is beautiful , the service was very good but the food ? So-so. They call themselves a chef restaurant but the food doesn't always match . If you serve bread to the table w/o any deep or spread , people can't eat it . The hallumi pide was bad - not cooked enough , small and ingredients were not great . The valerona choc cake was too dry , the needed to take it out of the over a few seconds earlier The tzatziki was pretty good , the kebab and meatballs were ok+, yogurt and peaches dessert was very good . This is quite an expensive restaurant , I don't think it was worth it
Was looking for late night food with a friend, and stumbled upon Zaytinya's reservation on Open Table for the same day at 9:00 PM. The confusing thing was that Zaytinya closes at 9:00 PM, so how was it that we could set a reservation for the same day? Turns out, if you get there right at closing, not a minute later, they'll still seat you. They won't rush your dining, and they'll serve you the same regardless, which is something most restaurants don't do anymore (we were actually turned away by a different restaurant that closes at 9:00 PM, but we tried to find seating at 8:35 PM). Ambiance is very, very date-night or milestone celebratory night-like! The decor, lighting, and atmosphere is elegant yet comfortable. Price point is definitely more date-like/upscale. Took a little bit to look through the menu, but thankfully, Zaytinya has good descriptors for their dishes. Another positive thing to note: they take allergies seriously. They ask for allergies, double check, and when they serve you, they explain what alterations were made to fit the allergy. The watermelon salad (karpuzi me feta) was light, refreshing, and unique. The kebab platter was the best bang for buck if you want variety! The celebration rice was our least favorite; the description seems great, but if you don't know what tahdig is, it changes everything. It's a crispy "bottom of the pot" type rice, so it's so standalone with its variety and complexity of flavor. The light, fluffy pita with the oil and vinegar was so addictive! Service was definitely on the slower end; my friend had to ask a few times for her water to be refilled. However, when our server was flagged, he was attentive to our requests.
Joe was Amazing! Long time Jose Andres superfan . Was delighted to learn zaytinya came to Palo alto after years spent on 9th and G. Separately made trips to Vegas and Dc now that Im west coast and definitely hit up every possible Jose Andres restaurant. Tonight's experience in Zaytinya was perfect, just like original 9th and G!!! So grateful for the amazing allergy app that helps us due to celiac. New efforts to offer many more of the long loved options as gluten free . Everything we loved : garides, steak , sea bass... And that apricot yogurt dessert!! Worth getting on a plane for ... but now here in Palo Alto! Joe was extremely knowledgeable and service was excellent! Thanks for making us feel back at home.

Ambiance was well casual- to high end fine dining. Bussers are a stand out in filling up water, refilling bread if needed, and bussing tables quickly. We had Halloumi cheese salad ( this one might need to improve as only one side was grilled, both sides should be as I believed grilled, as the selling point); lamb chops Broccolini @ $35 (didn't see much veggies and the size of the chops are small compared to Mediterranean Kebab or others we went ) , Chicken kebab (which was comp as the size was not for sharing compared to steak we ordered , similar or close price of around $24-23) One bartender offered instead the Chicken Muhamarra @$ 35 ( cut into 4 pcs, sort of better option) . The server assigned seems to be not into our story when we say we are testing different kebab places and we had a chance to visit Istanbul. Anyway, over-all, steak was great. The rest might need to be reviewed in the menu as to price scale.
Located in the Stanford mall, in the corner with Blue bottle coffee. I loved the menu and the welcoming modern decor . Always enjoy the ambience of a spot with indoor olive trees and the laterns hanging from the ceiling were so pretty. My main gripe would be that I wish they offered a sampler plate with multiple dips, because it's always hard for us to choose amongst them. We ended up getting the eggplant dip and the labne which were both really good. Comes with the pita that is baked into a huge puff, and is nice and thin for dipping. You can add on vegetables to dip with which is a nice option - but it's hard to dip with the leaves that make up the majority of the bowl! The carrots, bell peppers and cucumbers were nice to dip with though The crispy Brussels sprouts are a must. I usually find the brussels sprouts at restaurants to be too greasy, but these were well crisped without feeling oily in the mouth. I was intrigued by the Spanish crudo on the menu. It comes with on top of a potato purée and a sprinkled with some chips, most of my family thought the dish was a little weird, but I was into it ! The octopus was also beautifully pleaded, and also came on top of a puree, it comes as a chopped up arm, but you can see all the tentacles as well, which we prefer. We also enjoyed the cheese pide that came with halloumi cheese. Overall excellent food, beautiful decor, sufficient service We'll be back !

Came to zaytinya on a Sunday night in a group of 4. Inside the restaurant is very modern and clean. Lots of natural light, love the ambiance. Service was good. Food was amazing!! We shared a bunch of dishes. Our favorites were the seared halloumi, hummus and kofte kebab. The Turkish coffee chocolate cake was soooo good too. They have pitas for the table, ask for as many as you want ;) Would definitely come back
Came here with coworkers so we ordered a lot. Good excuse to try almost everything. All the spreads were solid, we got the baba ganoush, labneh, hummus, etc. The pides were good too, can't go wrong there. The octopus was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Table favorite for a lot of us. But the real star was the lamb shoulder. Perfect amount of woodiness, seasoned perfectly, came with a bunch of sauces and paired with the bread they give you it was such a simple but great combination. Tender but still meaty, which is exactly how I like lamb. I don't like when it just falls apart. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium for the group. The whole fish was moist and cooked well, though a little bland on its own. Paired with the other sides on the table it worked really well though. The cocktails were also really good. The 3PM in Istanbul was a group favorite. Not too sweet and the flavors kind of evolved as you drank it. They also have a lot of solid vegetarian options which is always nice to see. The ambiance inside is sooo nice and the decor is really well done. This would make a fantastic date spot. Service was extremely friendly. Wish I had caught our waiter's name because they were amazing. I'll be back!
Had high expectations for this place since it's one of Jose Andres restaurants. Loved the decor and the service was first class. People came around to check on us frequently and to refill our water. For the price, however, I was expecting more. Tried the smoked beet salad and hummus to start. The portion for the salad was quite small and was like a side salad but I enjoyed the flavors and it was delicious! The pita bread was a nice fluffy puff and served hot. The hummus had a good blend and flavor as well. We split the kebab platter which had 4 different kebabs, onions and tomatoes. It was enough for two mildly hungry people to split but was also a fairly small portion for $70. It had good flavors and we liked the meats and sides which we put in our pitas. We overall enjoyed the meal and service.

Jess was our server, and he was fantastic. He was professional, friendly, and enjoyable to talk to. His humble, attentive service made our dining experience even better. Let me say something good first and that was about the service, which was absolutely fantastic. Also, the dessert was all right. The Turkish yogurt mixed which was more like Panna cotta was absolutely perfect. The problem really was with my main course as a pescatarian, which turned out to be a combination of the shrimp and a scallop appetizers. These were both undercooked and lacked flavor and were overpriced three little scallops, which were still pink in the inside without flavor at $21 was ridiculous. I asked our waitress to get my scallops well cooked and return them to me and she had the whole dish redone. Even after that, the result was still not much better. My family enjoyed the kebab combination, but for the price it was too little. My overall take for this place is that the ambience and the service is great but the prices do not meet the quality. read more

I've been around long enough to know that eye-catching restaurant decor such as lush flower walls, a centrally-placed fountain or tree, or in Zaytinya's case -- a modernized art deco bar -- are sometimes distractions from mediocre food. My biggest complaint about Zaytinya is the minuscule serving of Shisk Taouk; one chicken skewer consisting of just four pieces, with a couple inedible fatty, dark meat bites, is criminal. I'm not a big eater but if I were, I'd have to spend $60 for their four-skewer Kebab Platter to get a decent helping of protein. My lunch partner reported that his Lamb Baharat, a spiced-rubbed lamb loin kebab, was nothing special. We paired our dishes with their sufficiently-garlicky toum & pillowy, football-shaped pita for a more full meal; our starters of Zaytinya Fries & Garides Me Anitho (sautéed shrimp in herbs, mustard, & lemon juice) also bulked up the meager portions. Overall flavor was fine, & that's the reason for a lukewarm three stars rather than two. Located next to RH (although if I'm in that immediate area, I would choose RH over Zaytinya & I suggest you do the same.) read more

Vibe: 3/5 Service: 2.5/5 Food: 3.5/5 Drinks: n/a Value: 2/5 I deeply admire José Andrés as a chef and humanitarian, and whenever I get a chance to support his businesses, I always do. Sadly, Zaytinya will not be on my frequent flyer list. First, the good: I loved the complimentary bread and their honeyscrisp sorbet dessert. That's it, folks. While this restaurant harmoniously combines three cuisines, its service, prices, and food are at odds with one another. I still can't believe we spent almost $50 on a small rice dish that barely contained any chicken. But if you want rice, that's your only option. And don't get me started on the $65 overcooked tiny lamb chops. This entree will leave you craving more food because it's certainly not enough to satisfy a grown adult. The $13 hummus seems like a great value until you realize that the whole portion is barely a spoonful. The smear it along the sides of the plate so the portion looks larger than it actually is. They use high-quality ingredients, and the food tastes fine, but with so many other excellent Mediterranean options in the South Bay at half the price and with tastier dishes, this place doesn't make much sense. Usually, such places provide exceptional service to help distract you from the fact that you're spending an irrational amount of money on okay food. Not here. The formal attire couldn't hide the blatant service issues. Here's all the fun we experienced and observed: -Bread service seemed to follow no rhyme or reason. The table next to us got their spreads and sat a long time waiting on the bread, while other tables got two baskets or refills. We got our bread nearly 20 minutes after sitting down, but didn't get the oil dip for another 10 minutes. -Our $10 sparkling water came with potentially unwashed citrus. How else would you explain the QR stickers on the lemon slices?!? -Our entree was dropped off at the wrong table and then redelivered to us. The table behind us kept being served the wrong wine. Not sure if they thought the guest wouldn't notice, but that wine connoisseur called them out--twice! -They dumped the brussels sprouts into the same to-go container as the $50 rice. We came for an anniversary night and the service food and vibe was really all good! It seems like they have high attention to service (our server was Jess). Food came out in a timely manner and they refill water regularly and gave us a little treat with the end of our meal to celebrate. We ordered: octopus, shrimp with lemon and dill sauce, chicken skewer, crunchy (aka raw) veggies, babaganoush. Everything is quite fresh and portions are moderate (maybe like generous tapas?). Overall I felt like every dish was amazingly seasoned and well cooked. I basically drank the sauce that came with the shrimp. The ambiance inside is quite lively and definitely on the loud side-- so it's great for friends or a date night, but not as much for a first date or intimate family dinner. My girlfriend and I were really excited about this new Mediterranean restaurant opening in Stanford shopping center. The ambiance is very trendy and ideal for date nights or a chill girls night out. My friend and I shared a variety of dishes. We had the tzatziki, scallops, kebab platter and fries. I have no complaints about the dishes but the service was pretty mediocre. Our server took a while to greet us. She also told us she'd bring us bread for the oil but it never arrived. We also had to wait a bit for the check. With that said, I would go back for the food if I'm craving Mediterranean as there aren't many good Mediterranean restaurants in the Bay. But Dio Deka is a notch better than this spot in terms of food and service. read more

I had such a wonderful experience at Zatinya! From the moment we walked in, the service was friendly, attentive, and welcoming without being overwhelming. The atmosphere is absolutely beautiful -- classy and elegant, yet comfortable. It's the perfect spot whether you want to dress up for a night out or keep it a little more casual. Everything is done so tastefully. The food was incredible from start to finish. The pita bread and hummus were fresh and flavorful, the salmon entrée was cooked perfectly, and the chocolate cake for dessert was the perfect ending to the meal. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and delicious. I've brought both friends and family here, and it has been a hit every single time. Zatinya never disappoints -- highly recommend! read more

I really wanted to love Zaytinya, and while the ambiance sets a strong first impression, the food did not quite justify the prices. The space itself is beautiful. The lighting is warm and very well done, creating a stylish and comfortable atmosphere that works well for date nights or business dinners. From an ambiance perspective, they clearly invested thoughtfully. One interesting detail is the name. "Zaytinya" comes from the Turkish words zeytinyağı, meaning olive oil, with a playful twist on the wording. Given how central olive oil is to Turkish and Eastern Mediterranean cuisine, the name sets an expectation of authenticity and depth in flavor. Unfortunately, the food quality did not fully meet that expectation. While presentation is polished, the flavors were mild and somewhat underwhelming, especially considering the price point. Portions also felt small relative to cost. For Mediterranean food at this level, I expected bolder seasoning, more complexity, and dishes that really stand out. Service was professional and smooth, and the restaurant feels well run overall. Still, the value equation leans heavily toward ambiance rather than culinary excellence. If you are going mainly for the atmosphere and a refined setting, this place delivers. If you are looking for food that truly reflects the richness implied by the name and pricing, there are stronger options in the area. read more

We've been looking forward to trying Zaytinya since we learned about its opening a few months ago. The Mediterranean decor was welcoming. Our favorite dish was the kebab platter with meats cooked to perfection and accompanied by flavorful sauces (tahini, garlic, harissa). The 3pm in Instanbul cocktail was the most underwhelming cocktail I've had in ages despite being their most recommended one. The spicy sausage pide was another favorite dish from the evening among seared halloumi, baba gannoush, and sea scallops. The olive oil cake was interesting. Overall, the food was delicious however still left much to be desired while the staff was attentive in waves. read more

Was excited to try this new restaurant on my birthday, but did not have a pleasant experience here at all. This restuarant is situated in the Palo Alto Stanford Shopping area, parking shouldn't be an issue. Had a reservation for Friday night, and my friends and I were seated right away. The ambience is quite nice, esp the bar area has some eclectic design. It was very busy inside and our server was extremely slow. We ordered: Falafel, Halloumi pide, fries, Humus, Kebab platter (Family style), Garides Me Anitho (Shrimp). Every single thing ordered was underwhelming. Falafel was nothing spectacular, fries were thick and not crunchy on the outside, Halloumi was thick and not seasoned well, humus was decent, shrimp were stale and my stomach became upset instantly after eating the shrimp. We returned the kebab platter, as it had beef and honestly, after the let down of the previously ordered dishes, it seemed like a good decision. Since it was my birthday, the server got a complimentary sorbet, which also didn't taste as great. But, honestly, it didn't feel very celebratory, like how other restaurants would celebrate an occasion. The cherry on top was, the billing had included the "complimentary" sorbet and another item. This is supposed to be a high end restaurant. The sheer inattentiveness of the server along with the forgettable food had me quite disappointed. read more

What a fantastic new restaurant added to Palo Alto. It was impossible to get a reservation so we just showed up early for lunch on Saturday and we were seated quickly. The overall vibe and ambiance are cool and your eyes gravitate toward the details in the restaurant like the bar. The food was outstanding, we tried 1. Hummus 4.5/5 stars 2. We loved Zaytina. Came to celebrate a milestone but didn't have reservations (booked out for a month) but bar and lounge were walk in seating which was nice. Bartenders were very friendly and accommodating ensuring we still get the best service with pita flowing. The food was very very good though our favorite was the brussel sprouts. It is quite expensive for the amount of food but it felt worth it for the experience. The wine was perfect and pairing recommendation was great. The olive gin cocktail was spot on. was extremely excited to try out zaytinya after having it in DC a couple of times. zaytinya in the bay area had excellent fries, pita, garlic toum, and nonalcoholic beverages. aesthetic and interior design are beautiful as well. however, food and service were ok. the steak kebab was good, along with the hummus and dips, but chicken quality is ok. the bay area has a lot of solid food, so they need to improve. very expensive for extremely small portions as well. will be back for fries and pita, but really want zaytinya to improve and flourish. read more

Shoutout to Andres who was so attentive and helpful! We ordered almost everything he recommended and he did not disappoint! From the spreads we ordered the hummus, labneh, (both made in house) and crunchy veggies. The labneh was excellent and was served with warm fluffed up pita bread. From the Mezze we ordered the falafel, Brussels, and fries. The fries are a MUST GET! They were DELISH! We also shared the kabob platter without the lamb. The chicken shish was my favorite. Overall beautiful ambiance and decor. The bar area is breathtaking. A great place to share various plates over lunch or dinner. read more

We are obsessed with the menu and the execution of the dishes. This was our second visit here, recommended by our sales associate. Every plate we ordered was delicious, with some offering their own innovative and fun twist. The wine list was excellent, and the cocktails were tasty, though we wish the serving glasses were a bit larger. Not a complaint, just an observation: the drinks could have been more generous, which would have made them even more enjoyable. The service was good. Our previous dinner waiter was more knowledgeable and professional than the lunch waiter this time. The decor and ambiance were lovely and not loud. We plan to return whenever we're in town shopping--our new favorite spot near Stanford Mall. read more

Ana Maria and Andrew were super friendly and guided us through the menu and offered great recommendations, including the olive oil cake which is the best I've had. Other than the cake, I would highly recommend the shrimp, their hummus, pita, and the seared halloumi. Everything we ate was so fresh and the temperature was just right when delivered to our table. Came here with middling expectations, and mind blown. We got the warmest greeting from our server, Andres. My friend, her husband and I came with my mother. Andres greeted my mother with a warm, "hi mom!" We started with cocktails: the ancient olive, the Minoan sour, the magic carpet, and a glass of Moschomavro. My Ancient Olive, variation on a gin martini, was a spectacle ... the cocktail, a sidecar of calstelvetrano olive juice, and a plate of calstelvetrano olives. "Sip the martini, sip the sidecar, bite the olive," instructed Andres. Amazing! Probably my favorite martini that I've ever ordered in a restaurant. (And I am more of a vodka martini person usually.) The first thing to come out was complementary warm puffy pita with olive oil and balsamic, which we quickly devoured. And before we could even ask for it, more was on the table. We decided on the lamb shoulder, family style, and built our menu around that. Andres told us that the lamb was a good size and we would have enough food. In addition, we ordered the baba ghanoush, seared halloumi, crispy brussels sprouts, and garides me anitho (shrimp). The food was absolutely amazing. It exceeded all of our expectations. This is the first time in a long time where I felt absolutely wowed by a restaurant. And of course, the service... Andres was exceptional. So fun, so funny, such a great server. Is this restaurant child/baby friendly?
Yes, plenty of space indoors and outdoors other patio--it's upscale casual :-) When we went, we saw toddlers!
