The servers indicated that the slugs are an every summer occurrence. If the back garden's not your thing, the interior seating is air conditioned and beautifully decorated. The servers are friendly, and service is as fast as can be managed given the sheer volume of customers. You know it's good when seating's always filled! Their house iced tea is moroccan mint. Absolute heaven for summer, and always unsweetened just as it should be. The Zataar Bread with Feta is a must try. Absolutely fantastic. I didn't realize that nothing more than a spice blend, olive oil, a pita, and some feta could be so good! The Falafel are your standard, and are complimented well by either the sandwich or the platter. If you're looking for lighter fare, the Vegetable Kebab will do the trick in either context also. The 10' Pitzas serve well as a solid entree for one whether veggie, scallop, spinach, shrimp or sun-dried tomato. The Seafood Pitza is delicious but adventurous. There's a double serving of sea tentacle, both octopus and squid. You can, of course, build your own, but the pre-designed Pitzas represent a better price for what you get. There was a large party of us and I give the waiter kudos for his patience and service. Did I mention he has the biggest head of dreads i have EVER seen in my life!!! Anyway.... They offer a select few wines and beers (not very extensive at all). We ordered the Zaytoon's combo plate (choose any 5 app's) with hummus, Labneh, grape leaves, Moujadarra and pita. Everything was delish and fresh pita bread just kept coming! I normally do NOT like grape leaves but these were delectable and are definitely worth a try! Food: Lovely, basic lentil soup with a little chopped parsley garnish (I added squeeze of lemon); hot, lovely pita; harissa-type sauce to dip bread in. Iced water. More lemon wedges. Perfect. Server: slightly pissy but whatever. Decor: Um ... Zaytoons owners: did you know that it was so dark at my table that soup fell onto my lap more than once? This was my third or fourth time here, but this time with a large group (12). I called earlier in the week and whomever I spoke with was fantastic and assured me that we would definitely have indoor space (for a Saturday night), outside if possible. They were also quick to say yes to my request/dilemma about holding a birthday cake for the gathering that I wanted to drop off instead of lugging around Manhattan with the group before heading back to Brooklyn. I was thrilled with the outcome of the call and even more pleased when I can in Saturday afternoon with the cake. The person I spoke with on the phone was there and recalled the request immediately. Quickly and simply, my plan had worked out. Then, the service! The entire staff was incredible with their normal dinner service, plus the waitress offered, I believe, to take a few pictures of the group, moving around to find the best angle. I had brought candles and a lighter for the cake, but there was no need, as they had hooked it up already! Before taking it back to cut, the birthday girl asked for a picture of it, to which the waitress/photographer said she already had! Everything about the experience was fantastic! I'm sure I forgot a few details, but I would easily make this Zaytoons (I haven't been to the other locations) my go-to for another group event. After our disappointing and monetarily painful trip to Tripoli in Carroll Gardens a few weeks back, we decided to give this place a try. THIS is what Lebanese food is about! The large plates were really large but 5 hungry people were not to be deterred. The hummus was creamy and homemade, and the Labneh was wonderful. The falafel were better than back home- no joke. The Kebbeh were fastastic as well. The meat pitza was the star however! We really ordered practically the whole menu and were only disappointed by the grape leaves. I've eaten SO MUCH Zaytoons in my day, I gotta write a review. Zaytoons is a pretty low-key place, with super reliable, fresh food. I've heard people complain that they've had stuff that wasn't great, and I'll admit, I too have had items that weren't my favorite in the world. But overall I enjoy the food and a few items are completely knock-out amazing. And I've never had anything terrible! The people who run it are awesome and the service is always good, but again, LOW KEY. It's not a fancy dinner-out kind of place. I honestly prefer carry-out though sitting in their back garden is nice too. My favorite items: -Lentil Soup: it's lemony and vegetarian and incredibly comforting and flavorful -Rosewater lemonade: so refreshing, so delicious. -Cucumber yogurt: I have eaten more of this than makes any kind of sense. It's so good. -Pita: it's always fresh from the oven. I'll admit it's occasionally not done all the way. but that's rare, and when it's done, it's heaven. read more

This place is pretty cute- different than the decor and not as cushioned as the Myrtle location, but still quaint and cozy. They have a back garden but I haven't tried it out yet, as it was raining cats and pitas the day I came. They have a great appetizer combination plate where you can choose five.... we had the babaganouj (yummy), cucumber yogurt salad (extra yummy!), fatoosh salad (fun to say), potato salad (mashed, not potluck-style), and the Turkish salad. A great way to get a sampling of Middle Eastern meza salads. Everything was yummy except the pita bread.... it was basically just a tortilla....the first basket was crispy like pita chips, the second was a bit rubbery like a tortilla out of the fridge. It's a cute place! I just moved to the neighborhood and was walking around and decided to eat here on looks alone. The staff was very friendly - smiled & made eye contact when we entered. The food was awesome. I had a falaffel plate with cucumber salad and baba ganoush. The eggplant was smokey and citrusy. The falaffel was small, with good, firm texture and savory flavor. Light on the tahini. It was a really satisfying meal -- filling, but not too heavy. My dining partner had the kibbeh and said it was incredible. I didn't try it, but the presentation was beautiful. Dropped here one afternoon for some lunch. Ordered some take out which consisted of the chicken kabob and the chicken shwarmas. Food was pretty quick to muster up. I think it took about only 10 minutes so it was enough time for me to go to the grocery store to pick up some things for the apartment. I love this spot! Besides the cute little location, the food is so freakin good. When I tell you it's to die for, Gosh you won't regret it. Every time I order a platter there's no way of finishing in one sitting- I always have leftovers. The best part is the Pita bread that they warm up and gets big and puffy. I don't know what I enjoyed more, the food or my service. My waitress Julissa was so kind and made sure I had everything I needed before I even asked. The food came out hot and fast, and the restaurant was extremely clean. Literally one of my favorite go-tos in Brooklyn. Coming from Hawaii, it's very hard to find delicious Middle Eastern food so this may be subjective but I am pretty confident in knowing my flavor profiles and this place had amazing flavors! We started out with 4 different sampler plates with a variety of dips and appetizers! All very delicious and flavorful and served with warm pita bread. No complaints there! If you are new to Middle Eastern food, definitely get the sampler to explore the cuisine. I ordered the lamb/beef gyro plate. What really surprised me was the portion of everyones entree, enormous and generous! The meat sat on a bed of rice with side salad and hummus. Definitely more than enough to eat for one so I may suggest sharing a plate with another. Hummus was delicious, flavorful and had a perfect texture and consistency which definitely satisfied my taste buds. The Beef/lamb gyro meat was very delicious and paired well with the rice, salad hummus and pita bread. Service was great, it was one waiter who worked the floor and did an amazing job. As I left the restaurant, a couple came up to me and asked about the place and I told them, I just finished my meal there and it was amazing! Went for dinner on a Sunday. The restaurant was pretty full but there was only 1 waitress on. While she was nice, she was distracted and missed taking all our orders before walking off. Our later orders were incomplete and my merguez platter didn't have any merguez sausage in it. What they call merguez looked suspiciously like an oblong burger, made of minced meat rather than spicy red sausages. I triple confirmed that this was indeed the merguez and she said that this is what merguez is at this restaurant. Apparently, kofta, to this restaurant, is comprised of thosse succulent spicy red sausages. Unless they were covering for a mistake, better order the kofta if you want merguez and vice versa. read more

Just came back from eating here. It's been awhile and I left feeling like it was 3 star worthy. The seafood pizza I had before for delivery was really great. Tonight I opted for the Shawarma platter. It was ok. I wasn't much of a fan of the babaganoush but I liked the homemade pitas. My friend had the goat cheese pizza and enjoyed it. Consistent, consistent, consistent! I've lived near two of their locations (Vanderbilt and Myrtle Ave) and they're food is standard Mediterranean grub. I love their spinach pie, dips/salads, pizzas and all their platters which are hearty portions. It may not be the best Mediterranean fare but they're consistent (sorry there's that word again) and that counts for something. I've dined in (Vanderbilt location has a wonderful garden) and ordered take-out which would be my only grip. Delivery can take 5 minutes or over an hour. Zaytoons provides reasonably priced food in big portions that is fairly tasty. The babganoush, labneh, and turkish salad were good, but nothing super special. The fatoosh was spot on. I also enjoyed the fresh hot pitas served with these dishes. The felafel did not really make a big impression on me - I don't really remember what it tasted like, which probably means it wasn't god awful, but it wasn't amazing. The portions are sizeable here, so you get a lot of grub for your dough. I felt pretty satisfied after eating here. The interior was small, yet comfortable. While the wall murals were not my favorite, they were not a significant deterrent. The backyard is nice. The service is ok too. Overall, Zaytoon's is pretty decent for a quick meal in the neighborhood. It's not really a destination restaurant, but it's a good local option. read more

We ordered lentil soup, a falafel platter and a chicken kabob sandwich. Everything was fantastic. The falafel was incredibly flavorful, and was served with a salad and hummus. The chicken was in a wrap with pickles (pleasant surprise)was very tasty and tender, and the tahini sauce was splendid. I also tried baba ganoush for the first time - it was pretty tasty. I don't have any basis of comparison on it though. The hummus was great as well. The service was alright. The server was very nice, but the wait for the food was a bit long. Zaytoons is the ideal location in the neighborhood for a weekend summer dinner spot with friends. We went with some friends to the outdoor patio space - a really strong smell of citronella candles hits you, but once you get past the smell you are immeasurable grateful that those buggers are far far away! Its cozy, simple seating with tasty affordable mediterranean food. I've been here countless times and the food is always great - we had warm pita with a few apps, the hummus is a must have! We enjoyed various sandwiches: the falafel, kafta, chicken schwarma. All really good! We were joking during dinner that this place definitely channels the Paris ethic of eating - you don't get a whole lot of service, but you can sit and enjoy meal and company for as long as you want. My friend and I came here for lunch one Saturday under her recommendation. She frequently orders from their takeout menu, but had never dined in before. The prices are very reasonable, especially for the portions. I was impressed with my dish, a shawarma platter with beef, lamb, hummus, salad, and pita. The pita was fresh, piping hot and "bubbly" when they brought it out. It was pretty delicious. Once it cooled, it was a little crispy, which I liked. She got the falafel wrap and I got the chicken wrap -- both were delicious and stuffed to the brim. Big fans of the tiny pickles inside.
