I have no idea what these people are talking about. Maybe I ordered the wrong stuff, but I thought this place was HORRIBLE. Yes, it was affordable. Yes, it was fast delivery. But the most important part, the food, was horrendous. The side of spinach was the only thing edible and it was in fact quite good. But the pita bread was stale, the fried pita was over-fried. The meatballs weren't cooked all the way, everything was cold, the trio spread - every one of them was terrible. The salmon pate tasted like caulk and the other 2 seemed to have something pickled in them which was not what I expected at all and it was disgusting. I would sugar coat it a bit, but no. This place was a huge surprise! Tiny dining room with only five or six tables, and bare bones in terms of ambiance. But the menu, the flavors and the portions were insane! We had the spicy white bean soup, the phyllo-brie appetizer and the beef and artichoke tagine, which reminded me of a French daube. The soup was an ENORMOUS bowl served with bread for only $3.00. Ordered delivery and had a mixed experience. Was initially rung to be told there was no lamb kebabs, fine, changed to chicken. Was then rung half an hour later to be told they were out of Brie cigars. Asked for a substitute of something $4 more expensive, was told I could not do that. Initially wasn't happy. HOWEVER, food arrived with free soft drinks. About 20mins after the main delivery arrived, another delivery appeared with the Brie cigars and some deserts. Good follow up customer service! read more

Meh. I agree with a previous reviewer who said that they want the Zebda that everyone else seems to have experienced. I had really high hopes and was pretty disappointed. Not realizing it is pretty much only take out and delivery, I was unprepared to find a deli counter and only two tables to sit at. We decided to eat in anyway. We were the only ones there, and the food took forever to come. Forever. Once it came, I was very pleased with the Harrira - chick pea soup - it was yummy. Everything else - meh. Brie cigars, merguez sandwich, meh. One friend had the gnocchi and said it was ok, my other friend had the stuffed chicken and said it was really good, but had a very difficult time eating it as we were only given plastic cutlery - part of the whole carry-out thing I guess. And you can't get couscous with vegetables unless you get an order for 6 people. I doubt that I'll go back, I've had much better Mediterranean / Maghrebin food in Chicago. read more

I ordered the Kefta Pizza: (beef, lamb, potatoes, tomatoes confit, roasted red and green peppers, and feta cheese) from Zebda last night and it was DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never written a review the day after I have been somewhere but I was really motivated by how good it was to write the review today. It is not a typical pizza by any means but it is a delicious twist on it. The flavors and potatoes were great and so was the bread/crust. I also loved the feta cheese. I have no idea how this place has so many good reviews. Got the chicken kabob, came on top of zucchini and mushrooms that all tasted like they were pickled? The chicken was bland, sauce was spicy but tasted bad, and even the feta was extremely bland! Never had Mediterranean I disliked so much, and it was $12. Never again. read more

We decided to use our delivery.com vouchers here from Yelp's walk on the wild side event-so thank you yelp and delivery.com for picking up some of our tab :) I went all out and got the vegetarian plate for an appetizer and then the chicken kabobs served with mushrooms and potatoes, and lamb kabob on a bed of white beans with spinach and apricots. Really we had enough food to eat for lunch/dinner for two days after. Vegetarian plate was enough for two-and probably a meal in itself. The meat was high quality and was cooked to perfection-no grisly bits and not dry. I thought both were very hearty meals, but could have been seasoned a bit better. They were just a tiny bit bland, but then again we all do tend to oversalt our food. I would like to try their pizza and sandwiches as well. With twist of french and moroccan and north african region(Former French Colonies) this place will blow you away! I guarantee if they change their name to something french like La Zebda you will never know difference in taste of food and kind service! this is one of our favorite places to order delivery from. The food always comes quickly, and it is just so delicious. I am a fan of the chicken panini with brie and other yummy stuff on it. They also make these amazing little pizzas with fantastic ingredients on them. The broad variety of flavors at zebda will never let you down. the portions are huge (even larger if you go in and order) and they have some pretty darn good side options. I've only ordered Zebda for delivery so I can't speak to the dining in experience. That being said, I've ordered it at least 3 times in the last two months. This is one of the highest quality foods I've seen for delivery anywhere. If you want to go the lighter, slightly healthier route, they have a ton of options. If you need to get your protein fix, the meatball sandwich is sure to hit the spot. I was raised in a household whose food focused on a blend of Lebanese dishes with a Southern twist (weird, I know- that's what happens when great grandma and grandpa immigrate to Birmingham- it's delicious). Zebda presents an excellent snapshot of Mediterranean fair with a few surprises tossed in. You absolutely cannot beat the value when you order from this spot- highlights include: The array of spreads- I've tried several and most are great. I read one review that said the pita was stale- they give you a side of deep fried pita (I guess this could be mistaken for stale) and a foil wrapped piece of fresh- take your pick. Sandwiches- averaging 6$! Tandoori chicken, steak and don't pass up the Nutella, Banana & Jam for a dessert! Extra points for their killer customer service when my order was screwed up by a Grub Hub mishap (big love to Grub Hub for some of the best customer service in the biz as well). They immediately corrected the situation without question- this is far to rare these days. The food was excellent as was the service. Get the sweet potato..it is so soft and marshmallowlly. Anything that is slow-cooked is phenomenal here, my friend said his tangine aux olives was one of the best braised beef dishes he ever had, and he is pretty picky with his compliments. My eggplant two ways was good - I wish it had a bit more of a kick though..the sauce did not taste as flavorful as it looked. but it was unarguably freshly made and the fresh flatbread that it was on was amazing. They treated us like royalty there - the service doesn't get better. I thought I was at the Four Seasons the way the waiter treated us! He even treated us to several desserts on the house, two biscuits and a slice of a sweet cake. They were magnificent. The quality of the food is undeniable, as is the service. I cannot express my excitement at finding a menu on my doorstep for a place that delivers falafel. I had lovely visions of Sunday brunch in my bathrobe. Things didn't really pan out on our first order. The falafel is weird. I think not good weird. Just sort of odd and not great. The bread is greasy and covered in cornmeal, the falafel has red pepper - which is gross - and not really any good flavor. The hummous was insipid. We actually couldn't eat it all, which is virtually unheard of in this house. Hi-lights were the side of steamed rapini -- like a gentler broccoli -- which was quite good in a simple way. Eggplant Two Ways sandwich was odd, sort of in a good way. I'd order that again. We appreciate the clearly demarked vegetarian options, but would like them to be more delicious. This is the closest middle eastern place to my house that has an amazing combination plate with everything I want on it. I've only ordered twice from here, each time it was "the plate." This food is legit delicious and fresh. I haven't been disappointed. So good, healthy, and flavorful. It's hard to believe you can get such a huge amount of food like this for so cheap. Zebda is average. I like the fact that the owner partnered up with Chef Katie to bring this sort of modern flair to the menu. Too bad they didn't rehab the interior before opening it's doors to the public. I know it's a deli but people will be coming there to pick up food. I ordered the trio of spreads, bruschetta and cheesecake dates. All were yummy, especially the dates, it just wasn't amazing. Got a sausage sandwich, spinach salad, and hummus via delivery. Didn't have the falafel, (was it really that bad?) but the hummus was awesome, and I've had (and even made) a lot of hummus before. Not a typical recipe, it had some herbs and a very distinct flavor of tahini. It came across as very fresh. Hard to describe, but this was the freshest, most sit-down-meal-in-a-restaurant-tasting delivery I've ever had. Not that I haven't loved delivery from other places. This food just came across differently. The food I got was even better than I expected, and I expected a lot - they had over 4.5* on grubhub. I'm getting really hungry just writing this review. Anywhere else, for this price, you're going to go down several notches in quality. For $2 more than you might spend at Wendy's, you can get one of the better sandwiches I've had in some time. I went to Zebda for the first time by a suggestion of a friend. We needed to get food for a group of people and they were more then helpful! They made sure we got the best deal and we were completely satisfied. The chicken couscous salad is divine...they had let us know beforehand that previous customers had said the sauce was slightly spicy so they put it on the side. It was perfect for my taste! I would have given this place 6 stars except that they complained when I gave them the 10 percent off yelp coupon. They said they tried to cancel that deal but yelp never updated their system. Got delivery for first time last night on the strength of other Yelp reviews. I'd do it again! Got the stuffed chicken, brie cigars, and kefta pizza. Wouldn't recommend the brie cigars - not bad, but nothing special; just brie wrapped in puff pastry and fried. The Kefta pizza was really good though, as was the chicken. Also pleased with the price to portion size ratio; my order with tax and tip was about $35, but is about 3 or 4 meals worth of food. Delivery took right about an hour from when I placed the order, which seems perfectly reasonable, as it suggests they do cook food to order. One small complaint is that I did need to reheat a bit when I got it - is packed in an open paper bag, so on a cold night it cools down pretty fast. So my only critique would be they should keep the food in an insulated container en route. Still, the food was delicious, and I though their menu had some unique offerings compared to other Mediterranean/Middle Eastern places. Will be trying again in future! read more

The food here is golden. I ordered the combination plate that comes with beef chicken and beef sausage, in the description it says there is rice. However, in the picture taken of it there is no rice, but lemme tell you rice is EVERYWHERE. The meats were succulent and moist, the rice was very amazing, by far the best brown rice I've eaten! Trouble finding Zebda? Don't give up! Picked up a seafood pastilla and lamb brochette on the way home tonight. Delicious! That lamb was beautifully seasoned, and the not-too-sharp lemony vinaigrette on the accompanying greens were a perfect complement. Deconstruct the sandwich, and each element was lovely; put it all together and it became something special. I've been reading the other reviews, and even some of the most positive comment on the lack of decor (Chef Katie must be reading Yelp, too, because she was apologetic for the bare bones look) - me, I really don't care what a place looks like as long as it's clean and the food is good - and where in your bill was the cost markup to pay for anything extra? You give me food that excellent at prices that low, and I won't complain if you serve it over a stack of old boxes! read more

Went to Zebda after reading other reviews on Yelp. I have to say that I will be back for more. I had the falafal and hubby had Tagine aux olives--both were delicious! I also tried some wrap type thing with chicken, cheese, and other spices and it was like a flavor explosion in my mouth! Super tasty! We also split a chocolate pastry that was out of this world. All in all a great experience and we're happy to have a new place like this in the neighborhood! The only suggestion I would make to the owners is to make the inside of the restaurant a little more inviting (e.g., get rid of the computer behind the counter, hang some pictures, take down the Yelp/Metromix reviews taped on the wall, etc.). You can understand slow service when the food is great but the food here is only 'good' The (Beef) Tagine Aux Olives was a little too salty, the olives add enough salt to a dish so it came across as slightly over seasoned but it was still OK, it's saving grace was the use of fresh herbs and some really well cooked (Not over done) new potatoes, a generous amount of beef also. The girl who took our order also did some of the prep work for our food, she did a good job with the food but her customer service skills were a little lacking. Without any exaggeration, I can truly say that Zebda is the best delivery food I have ever had in Chicago. The portions are generous, the food is fresh and consistently delicious, and the delivery containers are neat and clean. No sloppy Chinese take-out boxes here! So far, we've tried the salmon, tilapia, "the plate" appetizer, chicken kebab and both soups. They include homemade, warm bread with your order. Stopped in on my way to Qur'an class at IIIE. Found date cookies. I forget what they are called, but they are a rare treat for me. I don't see them often. They were, of course, delicious! The lost one star because they did not have Moroccan Mint tea. They some green tea bag thing and some fresh mint they could add, but that is not the same. What kind of Middle Eastern establishment doesn't have MM tea? The man at the counter was very nice and friendly and said they sometimes have MM tea in the morning when the owner is there.
