I've ordered from Zebda via GrubHub twice. Both times I got "The Plate", which has hummus, tabouleh, two falafel balls, Jerusalem salad and stuffed grape leaves. It comes with pita bread. I forgot from the first time that the Jerusalem salad seemed to have yogurt in it, so I didn't eat it. Everything else on the plate seemed vegan-friendly though. You could order each of the items as individual sides instead. The steamed rapini side dish, which I've also ordered both times, is delicious. It has garlic and chunks of preserved lemons. Maybe next time I'll try something new. There is a grilled eggplant with baba ghanoush sandwich that sounds pretty good. A few of the items seem almost vegan, but not quite. The dressing on their falafel sandwich has cheese in it, and I couldn't figure out on my app how to request no dressing. They have a chickpea soup, harrira, made with chicken stock. Their grilled tofu Caesar salad has a non-dairy dressing but parmesan croutons. Overall the food seemed to have a little more of a gourmet touch compared to some other Middle Eastern/Mediterranean restaurants. I'd order from here again. read more

SO DISAPPOINTED!!!!! $50 for cold, overcooked, low quality food. Plus menu is MISCONCEIVING -WARNING.... Descriptions on menu do not correlate to food they are serving!I just got ripped off and now feeling sick!! In fact I am so unhappy that I called the restaurant to express how excited I was to try them and the food was awful!!!!! Woman on phone was nice and offered me a refund. I declined it, but then I tried calling the restaurant back because I want them to come take this food back and show to the owner. Was there a child cooking my meal or was this someone's left overs! I should probably mention I use work for a Middle Eastern restaurant. Delivery is 35 min before tax. Which is a major con in my opinion. This restaurant is fake gourmet and serves low quality grade food. I live 1.6 miles away from this restaurant. I so love small local businesses. I give them a year before they go out of business. This is why: All cooked food was cold Lamb kebobs overcooked- hard as a rock, fatty, did not even taste fresh throwing out Chicken tandoori sandwich- soggy, 3 of the smallest slivers of onions, chicken hard as a rock, very little flavor. My sandwich looked like was thrown together with no care or detail. Wild mushrooms- were not wild mushrooms. I was lied to on this one. Stuffed artichokes watery hardly any spinach, one a a dot. Spinach salad- dressing is heavy and gros, menu says goat cheese, hardly any and salad was nothing special. Rapini, only I ate menu says served w lemon. Served with no lemon can not express even be weary of their meat my stomach is making noises! I had one piece of lamb and chicken and my stomach feels a little sick. This place is delicious! First time ordering from here & I got the cigar appetizer, the tandoori chicken sandwich, the combination plate. The Tandoori Chicken Sandwich was definitely the star of the show! It was fantastic. The combination plate could use some work. I was not aware that one of the meat options included with the combination plate appeared to be a type of tripe sausage. I am not fan of tripe and would have wished for some type of heads up on this. I also think the restaurant should list the meat in the entrees in the description. The meats were fairly sparse and not exactly what I would call an entree. Zebda? "ZOMFG" is more like it! We've ordered in from this place a couple of times and both meals were excellent. Great prices and incredibly tasty entrees-- the Marguez Panini was LOADED with goat cheese, the Apricot Chicken sweet without being overpowering, and the Tagine aux Olives was amazing. And then you get dessert. You HAVE to get dessert. The cheesecake-stuffed dates are INCREDIBLE, and the mint tea! GAAAAAAAAH! Short version: Good, good stuff. Go get some. read more

Just ordered some lamb brochette with our $10 voucher from Livingsocial. We also added "The Platter" and Chicken Tandoori Panini. The delivery arrived about 40 minutes and it was and delicious. I was very reluctantly dragged by my husband there last week. Immediate reaction was was far from positive. I was weirded out by the store front feel and the lack of seating. Hesitantly ordered the eggplant sandwich and parked myself on the radiator to wait for the food. While waiting i eyed some pastries on the counter and asked for a sweet one. Holy heaven!!!! Amazing!!!! The very same should be said for my food once i dug in. First of all, the baba ganoush is the best I ever had (seeing as how I didn't order it myself, I ate most of husband's) as well as my eggplant sandwich, of which i only planned to eat half, but couldn't resist. The food is fresh and creative. Also, it's halal, which makes me feel good about eating it. Try it. Dine in experience is a bit hindered by having too few chairs (2 tables and 4 chairs total) but the food was overwhelmingly yummy and I forgot that my daughter was sitting on my lap while I was scarfing the delicious choices. Brie cigars with chutney dip is probably a crowd pleaser. Savory Veggie pizza was a deal at $5. The meat eaters loved the lamb brochette and the Merguez Panini (lamb and beef sausage sandwhich), along with the Veggie Pastilla (pastry w/choice of veg, seafood or chix) I suggest pick up so you get the food fresh, but it was still good the next day (even the tofu ceasar salad!) . I would give Zebda five stars if it weren't for their slow delivery. I've never been disappointed by their food; great quality for a great price. The first time I ordered from Zebda we decided to get delivery, even though I only live about 5 blocks away. With that said, it took them about an hour and half to bring us our food. I'm typically not a reviewer but I just had such an exceptional experience, I feel compelled to share it. I've ordered delivery from Zebda several times before. It is always prompt, friendly, and delicious. I always get the Tandoori Chicken Sandwich and everything tastes so fresh and thoughtfully prepared. I know, it's just a sandwich, but it is a thoughtful sandwich! Anyway, enough about the food. Tonight I ordered online and noticed the restaurant placed a call to me minutes later. I returned the call to discover that they had run out of the limonata that I had ordered. The woman on the phone told me not to worry, that the store next door carries it and that it will be included in my order. What AMAZING service!! As my old Drill Sergeant might say, "If you don't go to this place and stuff your face, YOU'RE WRONG!!!" I was invited by some friends and went along reluctantly, not really being in the mood for Mediterranean or for trying anything new. But once I took a bite out of that lamb and beef pizza, all doubts ceased. In addition to tasting amazing, the pizza filled me up (and I have a huge appetite) and only cost $6. Wow! I had a $25 off coupon and came here with a friend. The kicker was that we had to order at least $35 of food. A few surprises: 1) This place is more of a diner than a restaurant. There are only 3 tables. We did sit down at one of them and saw many regulars come get take out while we were there. There's also no bathroom, you have to go to the restaurant next door. 2) We didn't realize how hard it'd be to order $35 of food. We ended up ordering quite a bit of stuff... including the appetizer sampler plate, some kebobs, the tandoori chicken entree, and the eggplant entree. It was a lot of food for two girls. The guy who worked there bet us free desert if we could finish it all. I did my share but the other girl had to take back part of the eggplant wrap so the guy ended up giving us some free cookies. All the food we tried were delicious. Who knew yogurt and cilantro would be so good together? The lamb kabobs were better than the beef ones. My friend and I both really enjoyed the pomegranate dip. The tandoori chicken and eggplant wraps were both really good. We ate so much food but the food wasn't oily so we still felt okay after. read more

My husband and I tried Zebda for the first time today and were definitely not disappointed! We walked in with a heavily discounted coupon and were concerned about having to dine in as there were only two (occupied) tables when we walked in. We were pleasantly surprised when we were told that we could use it for takeout! We ordered a vegetarian pastilla, mini kebabs, "The Plate," lamb brochette sandwich, and Zebda chicken kebab entree to share (with plenty of leftovers). The combo of eggplant, roasted pepper, lamb, and mint was just perfect - and the m'semene bread was a really nice soft texture. My only complaint was that the dish seemed really oily. If you can, I would request to get the bread on the side so that it doesn't get soggy. My husband's chicken kebab entree was delicious! The zucchini and mushrooms seemed somewhat unexpected but it really worked. It was my favorite main dish of the two. I would pass on the mini kebabs unless you were just supplementing with salads and sides, but they will come in handy for lunch tomorrow. :) "The Plate" was a great choice for an appetizer, but I could easily live off of hummus and tabouleh. This was also the first stuffed grape leaf that I've ever enjoyed. It was a great combination of tangy and sweet. I was worried I wouldn't like it because I've never been able to stomach dolmas. If you're looking for a quick Mediterranean fix without the fuss, this is the perfect place. Little shop with a ton to offer and good food. They have the basic stuff but my favorites are the falafel sandwich and tandoori chicken. Actually, they have really good flatbread pizzas too. We love the chicken pesto pizza. Portions are big. One entree could feed 2. We also like the fact that they are connected to a coffee shop next door and we can get a nice expresso coffee while we wait. I do think they are a bit overpriced and because it's a small mom and pop shop with limited staff, expect a bit of a wait. Still, a great little neighborhood place and a must try. read more

Fantastic Algerian-Mediterranean food. With guidance from the owner Mohammad, we got a bounty of inexpensive deliciousness. Where to start??? Hmnmm. The usual -hummus, couscous, tabbouleh were the tasty side compliments to an eggplant two-ways sandwich on Kesra (Algerian unleavened bread made with semolina flour) The goat cheese dip/spread was addictive. Sauteed spinach with shallots and feta..... an absolute must. While waiting for our takeout, we enjoyed warm flat-bread with a drizzle of honey and the hot sweet tea with mint (perfection). Fortunately, we have plenty of leftovers to enjoy during this Chicago snow storm. The physical atmosphere is not reflective of the high quality food and service. Without a doubt, if we lived in Chicago we would have Mohammad cater our parties. I ordered Zebda the other night via Grubhub...I was in the midst of writing term papers so this little delivery was heaven! I ordered the Basalmic Glazed Steak sandwich and the Lamb Kebabs. The sandwich was good. I thought the steak was well-seasoned and tender. I am not a huge fan of mushrooms, but they were a nice touch to the sandwich. The Lamb Kebabs were pleasantly unexpected yummy-ness! They were served with herbed feta sauce with was to-die! I gotta say this is one of my favorite restaurant. The owner and staff are super friendly. The food is always on point. I always either go with the chicken panini or the grilled salmon salad. I always carry out. Whenever I can't find parking or if it's over crowded the owner will always bring the food out to me. I find that very kind. They are very clean and have a seating area. FOOD: Good, moderate portions. Not overdone where I can't finish, and not under served where I would feel robbed. The dishes I ordered had great flavor and I didn't need anything to add on to it. The menu described exactly what I got. Speaking of the menu - very different and offers a lot for everyone. I wanted to try so many things on the menu but I couldn't. But I certainly will return to try more dishes. SERVICE: There was only one man working, and me and my mom were there to eat, so obviously we had the best service. I hesitated to go in judging from the appearance of the outside and just the way the seating area looked. I ate here during the month of Ramadan, so that could be why it was so empty and depressing. But soon there was an 8 o'clock rush when people started breaking their fast. By the time we were done eating, the place filled up and the lone man working was sweating bullets trying to give everyone the same great service he gave us. This is definitely a place where you can dine it, have dessert AND stay a while for tea or coffee. A few months back I had dinner in their tiny store. Started off with The Platter, of which the Jerusalem salad was very interesting. We ordered a bunch of other stuff, not very memorable... and one of the pasta came undercooked. The server was totally cool in taking it back, and taking that item off the charge. We then ordered the Lamb Brochette Sandwich. Note that at this point, we actually were already kinda full. However, then the Lamb Brochette Sandwich came, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT and felt like I could eat another 2 of them! And they top it off by giving us some free cookies. The server was casual and friendly. However, the place itself was kinda small, lacking a restaurant ambiance, so I would only do pick up or delivers in the future. Lamb Brochette Sandwich will be the number 1 reason why I would want to go back to Zebda. Note: I have tried calling Zebda for pick up 3 days in a row since Aug 7, 2012. They have not answered once, kept going to voice mail. And their website's ordering system kept saying "online store is closed today". Someone please tell me: are they closed for good? :( read more

I had also ordered the sweet potato thinking it would be like a casserole but it was just a sweet potato w honey in a cup on the side. The food had a weird smell to it. Ordered delivery and had a mixed experience. Was initially rung to be told there was no lamb kebabs, fine, changed to chicken. Was then rung half an hour later to be told they were out of Brie cigars. Asked for a substitute of something $4 more expensive, was told I could not do that. Initially wasn't happy. HOWEVER, food arrived with free soft drinks. About 20mins after the main delivery arrived, another delivery appeared with the Brie cigars and some deserts. Good follow up customer service! read more

although a large part of my fat content will always have a soft, cellulite-y place for mexican food and burgers, i generally like to vary what i eat when i can. being back home and in charge of what to eat for the evening, i chose zebda on account of its reasonable prices and its tasty-sounding arabic/mediterranean dishes. the spreads were pretty good. (i ordered the eggplant caviar, goat cheese w/spinach and sun dried tomatoes, and smoked salmon pate.) although they weren't freshly made, the generous portion of the trio was a great deal for its price. the pomegranate-glazed tilapia (served over couscous and mandarin spinach salad w/yogurt mint vinaigrette) and apricot chicken (infused w/apricot almond butter and served w/rappini) were too sweet. it was as if a heaping dollop of jelly/jam was added, which was unnecessary b/c the dishes already contained mandarins and apricots, respectively. the tagine aux olives (braised beef w/olives and potatoes in a saffron sauce) was ok. besides the smoky flavor of the beef, it tasted like a filipino dish that i've had on several occasions. the artichoke pappardelle (ribbon pasta w/artichoke, portabello mushrooms, rappini and red pepper in a saffron cream sauce) lacked flavor. the only thing that i could really taste was butter. great price, overall average food. perhaps i'll go to zebda again in the future and try one of their $6 sandwiches. read more

if an establishment is going to offer discounts through groupon, two buck duck, living social, what have you... wouldn't they deem it appropriate to inform their staff that they are doing so? these coupons ALWAYS say to mention coupon when ordering, but half the time when you do, you get looked at like you have three heads. or worse, as we found out tonight, you can be treated rudely and not even allowed to order because the employee doesn't know what the hell you're talking about. dumb. and, i want my money back, since i have a distaste for zebda now. not from the food. read more
