Was excited bc of the great reviews and fact that Zen is 4 blocks from my apartment - really, really wanted to love it. Went for eyebrow wax. Woman was lovely - very nice. But it took several tries to get the right line. IThe shape I ended up with was passable at best. And unfortunately, when I got home later, I noticed that a tiny bit of skin had been pulled off from under my right brow. I had a small scab for a day or two. No biggie in the grand scheme of things - but for those prices, I think it's fair to expect more. Sorry, Zen. Not coming back. Tina is the "BEST"! What an amazing facial, amazing knowledge, and superior products she uses! Her anti-aging facial was superior to any I have ever had. In one session my skin was totally changed. Quality, quality, quality. YOU have to try this spa and this facial specialist. The smells and facial massage sent me into a dfferent place, she called it synergy...She kept saying balance, spirit, soul and body using aromatherapy and massage. My has the Lower Haight changed since I moved to SFO in 1989. Duh! Some of the same bars are still there, but back then there was no Zen Spa. To get right to the point I had one of the best massages I've ever had there last weekend. I think her name was Chrissie - I'll check back in the next time I have one. She inflicted just enough pain to make a difference and a ton of knowledge about what she was doing. Very cute and chic nail boutique in the heart of San Francisco. When you first walk in you're going to notice 2 things a huge selection of nail colors and how "Zen" you actually feel walking in. They have a variety of services in addition to manicures and pedicures. They offer massage and private rooms for relaxation. Tracy, was more than accommodating to our party of 4. We made appointments for 3 gel manis and pedis, but last minute, another friend decided to show up. Tracy and her team accommodated our party and provided exceptional services to all of us. Decent experience (first time coming)--first noticed no gloves on the technicians but the place was very clean. Disappointed as each nail of my dip manicure literally popped off one by one after 7 days (should last 3 weeks, typically does from other places). it seems as if not enough glue or bottom coat was applied because my nails look almost untouched underneath. I went to zen for a shellac/gelish manicure. For this place,myou should definitely make a reservation because every time I try to do walk- in, they are busy but with a reservation it's fine. The manicure is 30$ and I had a wonderful lady. You get tea or water and the staff is wonderful and very friendly and helpful. The lady who did my nails was very precise and took her time with it and did an amazing job. She wasn't annoyed or anything you will find in many other walk in places. Amazing service!!!! We had a planned spa day for my cousins Bachelorette weekend, and everything was set and planned perfectly. The workers are all super kind and provided awesome hospitality. We even had a cake provided for us which was delicious! Also, they had refreshments and candies provided. If was a nice, clean, relaxing spot. This spa in the lower haight is clean, smells good and open late (9 p.m. on weekdays). I got a facial and it was unreal. I had not 1 but 2 estheticianas who were very friendly. The best part---20 full minutes of massage. sigh. My skin looked great and I felt just as good. After being led astray by yelp to a well rated but horrible pedicure/manicure place, I was a little wary of trying another. This time though, yelp did me proud. I loved this place! There is a huge selection of OPI and Essie nail polish, the decor is simple and soothing (hence the name Zen, perhaps), super comfy recliners, and reasonable prices. The pedicure. . . I stuck my feet into the water, expecting it to be . . well, water. And it wasn't. My feet were enveloped in a wonderful pillow-y, dense foam. My feet liked it. A lot. This place is awesome and the best part is that it's in my neighborhood. Oops or maybe that's dangerous. Strolling by on a Saturday afternoon, I decided to stop in to see what they had to offer. Once I saw the Epicurean products on the shelf it was love at first sight. They make the best lotion!!! Anyway I was really in need of a massage and they happen to have an opening so I took it. Chase was my massage therapist and he's awesome! Great hands, great touch, great pressure. Visited here during Yelp Spa week. Got a brazilian for $26... that was definitely a steal! The decor in this spa was very "zen". Nice cushy couches in the waiting room, with bamboo tries as decoration. The room that I got my wax was very comfortable and chic. Walls were black, equipped with steam shower and a modern bowled sink. I was like wow... this room definitely gives that spa feeling and I would to utilize the shower next time I go in! As far as the wax... very clean! The worker made sure everything was ALL gone which every girl likes. Left very satisfied with the cleanliness of my wax. We all had a relaxing time too as we all got pampered by the lovely ladies who did our deluxe mani-pedi. Came here for a pre bachlorette pampering session coordinated by one of the best MOH on the planet. She got myself plus 5 other girls to come in and surprise the bride for a full on pamper session. Like Jackilyn B, they shut the place down since we had a large party with multiple services requested. We were able to bring in breakfast/brunch items, coffee and wine/champagne. They even bought us a mousse cake from Schubert's. The place is super cute and they have a vast variety of polishes and shellack, my new hype. We went on August 27 and my shellack just came off last Friday, Sept 2! Most places don't do a very good job with shellack because it is suck a new product they are still in testing mode. Loved that it lasted as long as it did. Plus, I got a repeat customer card so I get 20% off my services during the week. Downside, typical City parking. Me and the girls love this place! The first time I was here was for my Bachelorette party. It was awesome spending the day with the girls. The treatments I had were wonderful and very relaxing. They even set up an area in their lobby for us and closed down the place for a few hours. They even got us a delicious cake from Schuberts that we devoured. The second time I was here was the day before the wedding. We wanted to get all nice and pretty before the big day. We each had a papaya body scrub which was nice and we had mani and pedis. Funny thing was half way through out pedis the power went out. They were still able to finish us up and we just hung out by candle light until we were good to go. Since it was a Friday we were able to use our 20% off card! I will definately be coming back again for that body scrub! Booked a Spa Party for a friend's bachelorette party with Zen Day Spa based on reviews on yelp. The owner Trang Warden is lovely to work with as is the rest of her staff at Zen. Good customer service, clean facilities, and a relaxing ambiance. The staff are polite and professional which made for a comfortable experience. They provide a table and plates/utensils/napkins for the party as well as a complimentary cake as reviewers have described. You can bring in your own food as well. They are extremely accommodating. The party had a wonderful time. Many have become repeat customers for good reason. The massages and body scrubs are amazing and are a must try. -1 star because the facilities are a little small and the layout does not lend itself well to large parties. We were split up which took away from the overall experience (still a great time overall). Twice I had treatments done in the one lone downstairs room which is hidden in the back near the bathroom and coat rack. You can hear the toilet flush depending on the music volume and customers laughing and talking at the coat rack. It just isn't the ambiance some may be looking for. Also they didn't have a good selection of flat glossy polishes or darker colors such as gray, plum, or blue. They had a lot of metallic pinks, reds, purples. Otherwise, Zen Day Spa is a great place to stop by after work or on the weekends and get a massage, scrub or a mani/pedi. Street parking only. I haven't had any issues with parking on the weekday or weekend. Beware that there is a parking time limit of 2 hours, so don't get your pedi before you have to move your car! read more

If I could give this place 10 stars...I would. A group of girls from work get together every month and have a "girl's night". We decided to have a Spa Day. I looked up several different spas and I came across Zen Spa. I read the reviews online and talked to Trang and Rae about hosting an event at Zen Spa. Trang worked with me to schedule and setup the times for us to come into the spa. She was really easy to work with. They offered a full line of service. Four of us signed up for Swedish massages, the rest of us got manis, pedis and a few facials. When we arrived, she has a place for wine and any appetizers. The spa is beautiful and really clean. The service was amazing! They were so kind and generous. She even got us a cake! I'd highly recommend going to Zen Spa, with the girls or just by yourself! We've decided we're going to make this a month occurrence...we were that impressed! Great job Zen Spa! Can't wait to come in again and have a Jelly Bath! read more

Zen spa is clean, bright and soothing. They did an amazing job on my nails - good enough to abandon my usual spot and call this one it. They were meticulous in getting everything and did not miss a trick when it came to my Gel manicure and my pedicure - bonus points for being amazing in scrubbing the hell out of my dry-ass feet. I got the deal with the massage and was pleasantly surprised - most nail salon massages are fairly halfhearted - this was a full thirty minutes of shoulder massage in the upstairs room (soothing and clean), and the pressure was perfect- depth without pain. What can I say? I love this spa! I've been here a couple of times for a pedi and just love that warm, jelly bath they soak your feet in. Recently, I had a hot stone massage and facial here and what an amazing experience this was! Yes, men need pampering too sometimes! :) First to the facility: It's very cozy, modern, chic and clean. You can tell they put a lot of thought into the design and decor to just make it as comfortable as possible for their clients. Love the high ceiling to the bamboo flooring! The waiting area is just very open and comfy. All services are conducted in either a private room or for the pedi/mani, in the open, upstair area (privacy away people walking by along Haight St). The private rooms are nicely lighted with relaxing back music, which makes the whole experience that much more enjoyable. Staff: Mostly, if not all women. Very friendly reception when you arrive to get you ready for a few hrs. of pure pleasure. Complimentary drink is offered as you wait. They just make you feel as comfortable as possible and let you relax as you should be at a spa. Spa services I recommend: As mentioned above, I've really enjoyed Zen's warm, jelly bath pedis in the past, something I've not seen offered at other spa places. The hot stone massage is to die for! These stones just melted my stress away, even my migraine too! Now, I'm not sure if I can go back to the normal Swedish/deep tissue massage. :) I've also tried their 75 mins Le Grand Classique facial. This just felt so wonderful! The facial included steam blowing, scented mist spraying and fanning during different times of the facial. Zen uses really high-quality products; each product applied during the facial just smell and felt lovely. The beautician also gave some wonderful massages in between each facial session. I love Zen Day Spa! The people that work there are so very sweet. I LOVE the jelly bath treatment in the beginning of their pedicures. It's spacious enough to not have to breathe in polish fumes and the set-up is great with the nail chairs on the second floor. My trip here was part of my Surprise Bachelorette get together from my Bridesmaids. I'd have to admit, every second of it was an amazing experience! I was treated to an hour Swedish Massage, Manicure and Pedicure of which I enjoyed a whole lot. The Zen Staff was so pleasant and inviting which made our visit even more enjoyable. The Staff even provided a cake to wish me a Happy Bachelorette. Their service was great!! The decor was really cute! Its 2 floors, high ceilings with a modern look. My Bridesmaids requested to have it private, so they closed it down just for us. We were able to bring finger food, wine and champagne. The stay was so comfortable. We were not rushed when it was time for us to go so they can accommodate the next party. The only negative feedback that I do have is it was so hard to find parking. They have a little area for your party where you can set up your own food and drinks. They even surprised us with a delicious cake for the bride to be! There are a variety of services to chose from and super affordable compared to other spas in the area. They are really accommodating. Best manicure I have ever had...no chipping no smudging PERFECT. A woman smeared volcanic mud all over me and then washed it off. The people were nice. They made a small mistake regarding my treatment and knocked off 20%. It was totally not crowded. The products are so effin good I can't tell you. I just can't. I came here for my 30th birthday in March for a spa party with 6 of my girlfriends. I felt like a queen...the service was EXCELLENT, all of our services were well priced and worth the money, great job on my massage and pedicure (it lasted almost a month!). Not to mention, we got free champagne for our whole visit, they got me a cake for my birthday, and made us feel like their private VIP guests the whole time we were there. I would HIGHLY recommend this place...my friend made another trip there from the East Bay just for the Rosemary Body Scrub after she got one on my spa day party that she loved, because she couldn't find anything like it anywhere else! I've walked by this place several times and was curious to see what it was all about. So I cheated on my usual Mani pedi spot and took a chance. Firstly I am very particular when it comes to Mani pedi's and the girls here did such a wonderful job! I also had been growing my eyebrows out because I couldn't find anyone to do them correctly. I have been all knotted up. My fiance DOES NOT give good massages, so I was in need of a deep tissue. Stars for good price$, but, not much more I can rave about. The room I was placed in was downstairs by the bathroom. Although they played moderately loud, soothing tunes, I constantly heard the foot traffic to the bathroom and the annoying toilet flushing. The massage room was bland and they kept the lights. Talk about ambiance. When Miyako started my DEEP TISSUE massage, I thought I was just getting warmed up. I went in for the Brazilian wrap and a facial. I've never gotten a wrap before so I didn't really know what to expect. Overall I came out very happy with the experience. My skin was super soft from the exfoliation and wrap. My face was glowing after my facial. The lady doing my treatments was really nice and professional, but unfortunately didn't speak English very well. Since it was my first time there, I was hoping she would walk me through the process and the benefits of the stuff she was smearing on me. Unfortunately, I couldn't understand her so I just gave up and trust that she knows what she's doing. The decoration and atmosphere in the spa was really nice too. Except, I wish it was a little dimmer in the lobby area. My friends had to wait for me since they only got one treatment. The lobby was the only place they could chill and it was so bright and people walking by can look in that you can't really relax there. I arrived about 15 minutes early for a wax during Hawt on Yelp week. I also brought a friend for a drop in. She wanted an upper lip and eyebrow wax just to kill time while waiting for me, and only if they had an open slot to squeeze her in. They were accommodating enough to squeeze her in just before my appointment. My friend was in and out in about 15 minutes, just in time for me to go in for my scheduled time. However, when she was done, she wanted to add Brazilian wax as well. She asked the front desk to let me go first since my appointment time was up. The lady doing the waxing and the gentleman at the front desk looked at each other and nodded when my friend asked if there was someone else available to take care of me for my appointment. So I waited. And waited. And waited some more. As it turned out, they had given away my appointment to my friend and I had now become the one being squeezed in. I was furious. Twenty minutes later (35 minutes since I'd arrived) my friend had just about all the hair removed from her body and I was finally being escorted into a room for my wax. The lady was quick and professional and the job was done well. She used her bare hands and I'm not sure how much cleaning she had done between my friend's treatment and my own... We were both given discount cards for further treatments on the way out which made up some for the neglect I had felt during my visit. read more

Looks can be deceiving..... I went for a full body wrap, At over 2 hours long... It was a huge waste of time and money. The receptionist was lovely, the main floor was clean/pleasant/trendy, but the room where the work was done smelled like mildew, was dark, damp, and cramped. The esthetician didn't speak English (or not enough English to suggest things like "lay here for 15 min") What it comes down to, is this is a *nail salon that stretches to provide spa services*. So before you book that $200 appointment, remember it's a nail salon, *not* a spa. You couldn't pay me to return. read more

This place is absolutely beautiful inside. I don't think I've ever seen a better set up for a spa. They have great services that are specific for anybodies needs. It's very peacful and relaxing. The only complaint I have was the woman who did my service was not very friendly, maybe she was having a bad day. When she was done she just left the room and walked away with out leading me to the front desk or even saying goodbye and/or thank you. Don't get me wrong it's not that I didn't know the way to the front desk, I just thought it was unprofessional. She did do a great job, and thats more important. That's why I still gave them 5 stars. I looked at the lotion bottle she used on me and the date was 7/2010 Thats why Im giving this place a 3 star rating. The prices are high $52 for a brazilian. I love coming here for spa parties. Zen did a wonderful job with accommodating our party, as always. They provided us with a Tiramisu mousse cake, my favorite from Schuberts, to celebrate the upcoming new year...how sweet! My only complaint was that my mani/pedi started about 30 minutes after the scheduled start time, which meant that I ended later than I thought I would. Nonetheless, I'm in love with my mani/pedi! I seriously cannot stop looking at my nails. Vi was a total sweetheart and did a great job on both my mani/pedi; Lincoln Park After Midnight never looked better! One thing I did notice while picking out my polish (okay, more like searching for Lincoln Park After Midnight) was that along with OPI and Essie, Zen is also starting to offer Zoya nail polishes. I needed to book an immediate massage, and this place came through with an availability. I had no idea this place was in the hood -- very unassuming and easy to miss from the outside. The inside is stylish, but it is not a large, pampering sort of place (like an International Orange). The deep tissue massage from Miyako was wonderful; I would like to head back soon for a shiatsu. I only wish the prices were about 20% less. read more
