Everything we tried was delicious and the drinks were great too. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the long wait to be seated, but honestly it's worthy of the wait. Once you're in, the service moves quickly and smoothly. I ordered one of their specials, the Petrale Sole, and it was under seasoned and a bit too oily for my tastes. It also comes with your choice of soup or salad, along with a separate dinner side (rice, spaghetti, some form of potato, etc.) as well. All of these were also just okay. The pricing is reflective of the plethora of sides, which I personally dislike, as I would prefer lower pricing with no sides if given the option. Overall, this does feel like classic American diner fare, which has never really been my cuisine of choice. It's not bad, by any means, but it doesn't stand out to me.

I love the familiar menus that have the same standards wherever you go. But there can be a specialty to a particular locale, this one has a strong Mexican section on the menu. I love the down-home hospitality most bring. I love when the staff knows their regulars, just makes it so cozy and comforting for me. This diner has probably been around for decades; the building and layout just exclaim it. But I'm betting that it hasn't been the same owners the whole time. In my few visits, I'm guessing it is owned by a Mexican-American family now. Hot Roast Beef Sandwich ($17/3.5*) Pretty much hofbrau style, a monster open faced sandwich meant to be eaten with a fork and knife. Thin slice of sourdough bread buried on the bottom, that you probably won't even notice until much later due to the mountain of food that is on top of it. Topped with mashed potatoes, thin slices of roast beef, in which they use tri tip here. Then smothered with a thick institutional gravy that is stodgy but tasty. And a good side of actually nice steam veggies to balance everything out. I did find the beef to be so-so, pretty well done but at least not dry. I was super hAngry one early evening and I was able to kill this whole plate. Satisfying but probably wouldn't get again, a one n done. Weekday Power Breakfast ($11/4*) This is only available on the weekdays and only for limited part of the morning. It is your basic breakfast plate, but you can choose on how to customize it. I did eggs over easy, sausage links and country potatoes. Pretty basic but done really well and cleanly. More finesse on my breakfast out than my dinner out. You can choose pancakes or a waffle if you want something sweetish on your breakfast plate. Eggs were perfect, nice golden yolks. Sausage links were much bigger than your standard, but you only got 2. Very soft texture and mild sage flavor. The potatoes were diced waxy potatoes, so it had a creamy sweetness to it. Also spiced a bit with a tasty paprika seasoning and sauteed with onions and bell pepper. Classic. Their coffee is average diner level coffee. I didn't love it, but it did the job. Can't have breakfast at a diner and not have coffee. At least my conditioning/repetition has me believing so. Got a Fried Chicken Plate ($20/3.5*) for take-out on another evening and it was a monster portion. Chicken was nicely fried with a salty crust, that wasn't crazy crisp. But maybe my take-out format caused some lost for texture. Still tasty, with mashed potato, white gravy this time and lots of steamed veggies. Also comes with a salad. I was able to stretch this out to 3 meals which kinda surprised me. Like the roast beef plate, more filling and satisfying than it was 'wow'. But for a neighborhood diner, you simply cannot expect 'wow' food. But you can expect comfort and familiarity. And to that Manor Grill delivered.
