This little Asian Fusion spot in Elmhurst is just a sandwich shop, mostly good for lunch. The menu isn't too big but there are quite a few good choices. The place is a small spot inside a strip mall. Plenty of parking, no worries there. The inside is a little sad, though. There's not much character to the place and the staff is just kinda...there. There are a few tables to sit and eat your sandwich quickly, and then get out. They have a bunch of smoke inside from the kitchen, smells good but it can be overwhelming if you're not used to that. The food was pretty good. We got the Chicken Satay and the Mu Ping, which is a grilled pork cutlet that comes with some pickled carrots and cilantro, pretty much your typical Vietnamese sandwich toppings. All of the sandwiches comes with their house-made chips. They are super great but they're crunchy and sweet, not bad. The pickle on the side is very deli-ish, and I like that. The drinks they have are all bottled Cokes, Shasta, etc. no fountain or specialty drinks. The table next to us got the seaweed salad and shared, looked good. This is probably one of the best sandwich shops in the Chicago area. You would not believe this at first glance cause the restaurant is small and mostly unassuming. But most times in life the best things are found in humble places. The staff were very friendly and interior was clean and neat. I ordered the Spicy Garlic Shrimp and the Korean Cheesesteak. Both were very yummy and made with some really fresh ingredients. The shrimp is actually fairly spicy but should still be ok for people who are sensitive to that kinda flavoring. I actually enjoyed the Korean Cheesesteak more. The meat and cheese and onions were delicious. One of the best cheesesteaks sandwiches I've ever had. Included with each sandwich were some homemade chips. They were also kinda spicy but also sweet. They actually had a unique flavor. Overall it was a great experience! I hate to say it. This place has lost it. I have always come here because they really respected the patrons, and dietary concerns. I happen to be celiac and have to watch for Gluten cross contamination. While I put GLUTEN ALLERGY in all caps on my receipt, i watched them pull breaded pork from another order, and put it in the same bowl as my shrimp. My fiance ordered the korean cheese steak sandwich that everyone on yelp recommends, and I decided to try something different (server recommended the Mu Ping sandwich). STICK WITH THE KOREAN CHEESE STEAK! I knew I should have ordered that one too, but the foodie inside me likes to explore the menu. The Mu Ping was good, but the korean bbq was great. Significantly more flavorful. The Mu Ping is described as "Grilled caramelized pork, shredded carrot and daikon, cucumber, red onion, jalapeno and cilantro with homemade tangy sweet aioli." It had a lighter spring flavor with lots of shredded vegetables. Kind of reminds me of a banh mi sandwich without all the vinegary flavor. My fiance thought the sauce tasted like coleslaw and did not enjoy that. I don't think the korean cheese steak needs a description. Super yummy. Writing this review with regret. Used to love eating at Zenwhich. Till today when I saw that they DO NOT use gloves while preparing the food. I called after leaving and the young man tells me yes they know they are suppose to wear gloves but sometime forget!! Excuse me!? So then I ask for the owners number thinking I'd make her aware of what is happening. I got nothing but attitude " they still wash their hands. Other restaurants do it, you just can't see it" I'm sorry are you arguing with me about a state law? Also I'm addressing your business not others. I ordered online and got text message that my order is ready for pickup at 3:15pm. I get there at 3:25 and there's a note by the cash register that says to have a seat and will be back at 4pm. What kind of business is this. I hear voices by the kitchen so I called out. A lady comes out and I asked her for my order and she has no clue and asked me to wait for the person to come back! I asked for a refund cause I'm not wasting 30 minutes of my time waiting. Lady says she can't do that since she doesn't do the register. Then she points out to a brown package and asked me to check if that's mine. Sure enough it was mine. It has missing my drink and she said grab any from the case. Exceeded expectations... That was one of my (and Lisa's) favorite sandwiches of all time. Awesome , The owner came over and talked to us for a while, his newplace in downtown Chicago is doing well.. a really nice guy. So my sandwich came with some spiced potato chips (sure I'd love fries, but the chips were really good) and a regular pickle. Even though it's only the third most popular.. Great tasting sandwiches (at least the Mu Ping pork cutlet sandwich) and really great tasting homemade potato chips here. We were in area and dropped in for an afternoon snack. The Mu Ping sandwich and the chips went for $7.75. The place is no frills, small (maybe 20 seats) and slightly pricey, but you are getting great quality and freshness here. The homemade chips were really addictive and had a very tasty homemade seasoning (sugar and cinnamon were amongst the flavorings I tasted). The aioli sauce on the sandwich was surprisingly a little runny but didn't really detract from anything. I found about all the homemade stuff from chatting a little with Nate, the friendly Thai owner who started this business 5.5 years ago with his wife. They just recently opened their second store in the city on Van Buren. Asian flavors with Italian bread! Well not exactly Italian bread, but it's probably how I would describe it to anyone that hasn't been here yet. I tend to like places more when no one knows anything about it vs. places that have 200+ reviews simple because I'm usually disappointed as it seems more overrated. As of this moment only tried the Crab Cake Sandwich, Pork Katsu Sandwich, and Spicy Garlic Shrimp Sandwich. Would order all three again. $8.50ish sandwich that now comes with chips. (use to be $7.50ish with no chips) I came on Saturday afternoon possible around 2 and although not standing out the door. I have literally been dreaming of my lunch from Zenwich for a week now since the last time I was there. Ohh how I must go back... I had heard of Zenwich before, but really did not understand the hype until I walked in there for lunch - the line was out the door! The delicious-ness between those two pieces of bread included grilled chicken, lettuce, grilled onion and mushroom with wasabi infused teriyaki sauce and honey mustard. Need I say more?
