This is my go-to sushi spot for lunch or dinner with a friend. The AYCE is definitely worth it--it's decently priced, has a great selection, and even comes with a small ice cream at the end. The main reason to visit Zeppin is because of the carpaccio selection as part of the AYCE. There was albacore, spicy albacore, seared garlic tuna, mackerel, tuna, and salmon carpaccio that is included with the AYCE menu. That was definitely the highlight of our meal, along with the uni and amaebi (+ fried shrimp heads). Zeppin is a little pricier than other AYCE sushi options (was $47.99 the last time we went), but given the carpaccio option, I understand why it was a little bit higher. Service was the one thing that could be slightly improved. It was a lighter staff and it was difficult to get the attention of a server at times. There is ample parking where the restaurant is. Just get there outside of the standard dinner rush hours, as the wait can be a little long. Would still definitely go back to visit. read more

I had come upon dinner time with a friend to enjoy the sushi here. She gave me high ratings about the food, and I was ecstatic about trying it out. We were seated fairly quickly, and the parking outside was easy to find. There wasn't a lot of seating inside and there were some seats outside, but it was a bit warm out. After browsing the menu, we had both decided to order a bento box, two orders of crispy fried salmon, and a pitcher of beer. In my bento box, I had ordered the sashimi and fries tempera. We sat around, enjoying each other's company, when the first side dishes arrived! We had our miso soup and salad happily, and continued our conversations. Afterwards, we both received our bento boxes with our food piled high. We were busy eating and having our discussion, when my friend had mentioned our missing pitcher of Sapporo. She ended up flagging down a worker, whom we noticed, needed to input the order in the system. Didn't we order it already!? We received our pitcher of beer, and continued devouring our bento boxes. After our second glass of beer, she mentioned how we never receive our crispy rice... she was right. I flagged down the male server, and told him we didn't receive our order. I asked him to check the system to see if it was inputted. He came back to tell me, no, and asked if we still wanted it. We said yes and it came out after a few minutes. Honestly, the food was really good for the prices. It was fair and it was quite delicious. My rating goes towards the lack of service etiquette and process with the restaurant; we had to check in with the servers twice upon missing items. The female server should have inputted it into the system because we had written it down and she circled it on the paper! Instead, we received our drinks later and the side dishes after our main meal. Again, the food is amazing, so props to the chefs. This really is the spot when the sushi cravings kick. It's super close to my parent's home so I'll come pretty often, and they just consistently kill it with the fish quality. Haven't had a bad piece of fish here yet. When I do pull up it's usually for the AYCE, it's pretty reasonably priced for what you get and they have tons of options on that menu. Highlights for me are all the carpaccios, the nigiri selection and the various crispy rice selections. I'm already hungry thinking about it. The service is always great here as well, they check in and refill waters and things like that very often. The ambiance is cool, it can get packed as this shopping plaza gets more and more poppin' but it's usually fine and passes the vibe check. It is all you can eat but we decided to go À la carte but those options are available. The bento boxes were good and the kids really enjoyed them especially the presentation. Had a craving for sushi so figured to give a new spot a try. Zeppin sushi absolutely nailed it in every way possible. I highly recommend the all you can eat menu, the taste is absolutely worth the price. Everything was high quality, beautifully presented and served with great pace. The service was amazing and quick! We were offered refills several times even after we paid the bill. As for the food, the zeppin roll was easily one of my favorites. The variety is excellent -- from classic nigiri and sashimi to specialty rolls, baked mussels, and even appetizers like gyoza and jalapeño poppers, everything comes out fresh and consistent. The fish quality is solid for AYCE, and they don't skimp on selection. The one thing I've noticed lately is the sashimi/nigiri comes with noticeably more rice underneath than before. It's not a deal breaker, but it does throw off the balance a bit when you're really there for the fish. That said, Zeppin still beats out most other AYCE spots in the area. The rolls are creative without being overstuffed, the baked dishes come out hot and flavorful, and service is fast even when it's busy. HOWEVER, the reason I'm giving it a 2 star is because of my second trip back. I remember hyping this restaurant up to my friend who isn't really the biggest fan of sushi. She was hesitant because she's scared of raw fish. Anyways... we end up coming and it was not like the first experience I've had here. We found a hair in my friend's roll and when we mentioned it to the waitress, she picked up our plate and looked really closely as if it wasn't there and then said "oh... I guess we can make you a new one". Even though she let us have a new roll, she wasn't apologetic about food SAFETY measures. It's a restaurant not our own kitchen. Then we overheard our guy waiter talking to the table next to us. He was chatting with a customer talking about "people who order rolls are fake sushi eaters". I get it, to each their own, but it made my friend feel uncomfortable as she's scared of raw fish so that's all she was ordering!! Anyways, that's not even the worst part. The worst part was that we got food poisoning for two days straight. I finally had convinced my friend to try the different pieces of sashimi and nigiri and we ended up getting food poisoning!! The experience at Handroll by Zeppin in the Tawa Food Hall BLEW my expectations out of the water, so much so that I made up my mind on the spot to check out their sister restaurant in the same plaza, so here I am. This bougier all-you-can-eat concept features some items that you typically have to pay extra OR don't even find at other places, like soft shell crab, fresh oyster, carpaccio, and premium nigiri such as uni, sweet shrimp, and seared kobe beef. And the little lotus crown on the spicy tuna triple lotus is almost just too adorable to eat. Only thing they don't have is just sashimi without rice, but that's normal for AYCE sushi and completely fine for me 'cus I'm a rolls girly at heart, so obviously I had to double down on their rolls like the Flaming Tail roll which has HOT CHEETOS. Got udon with beef for my daughter.. as she was eating i saw her took out something from her mouth and put it on the table so i took a good look at it i almost had a heart attack!! They used to have premium high quality seafood; now the ayce is lower quality, most of the premium items were "out of stock" (how convenient). And the service is not what is used to be. For a sushi restaurant I feel noise level is pretty loud but nothing that's bothersome. You have three rounds which is normal for an AYCE place. Their fish selection is so fresh and the quality is better than other AYCE sushi places I've been to around the area. The staff are quick and attentive. My friends and I love the carpaccio as we feel the price point is worth AYCE. We enjoy the baked mussels, udon, miso, soft shell crab, hand rolls, and sashimi. The salmon carpaccio, fresh shrimp sashimi, miso soup, monkfish liver and uni are my favorites. Plus this restaurant is in a plaza with a bunch of other eateries such as boba and dessert shops.
