A few years ago they had a big remodel which is what drew my attention to this place. My now husband and I went there one night about a year and a half ago, and our dinner was really good. Really disappointed here. Came here with a group of med school classmates for dinner expecting to have some delicious and hearty Greek/Italian food. We waited more than about hour and a half for Our food, of which not everyone was served (2 people in our group waited another 30 mins after the rest of us were served). Ordered the moussaka which was bland. I grew up with Greek food and the food here was subpar and portions very small for $20/plate. This review is long overdue, but my hubby and I visited about a year ago. We ordered the octopus appetizer, Greek salad, and the traditional eggplant dish (apologies- forget the name). The food was excellent. Even more impressive than food, however, was the service. A man, who I assume to be the owner or a manager, walked around greeting the customers personally and knew some patrons by their first names. This very man even gave me his own quarters when I asked for change for the parking meter. It is this personal and friendly service that makes Zesty's our most memorable dining experience in Manayunk. While visiting Manayunk this week, my friend and I saw Zesty's as we searched for a place to have dinner. I didn't care for the restaurant name but the restaurant wasn't crowded and the menu sounded appetizing so we decided to give it a try. We started with an appetizer - Hummus. It was perfect! Probably, the best hummus I've ever had. The texture and seasoning were just right and it was served with warm pita bread. I wasn't very hungry and most of the entrees listed seemed to be on the heavy side so I decided to order the mussels. The mussels were served in a white wine and mustard sauce. I never would have thought of combining white wine with mustard but it was great! Even though the dish was on the lighter side, it was just enough to satisfy. My fiancé and I enjoyed this place. We were hesitant to step inside based in the outside: it's a bright blue building, and looks like a low-class diner. The "Zesty's" sign looks like branding for a pizzeria- very confusing. But, take a step inside and that all changes. It's very lovely. The food was great. I ordered the lamb and my fiancé the salmon. Both were perfectly cooked to order. Prices are a bit on the expensive side, but I think it was worth the quality. We'll be back. read more

The food is amazing, Tom (the owner and chef) makes the most amazing meals - try the mussels, hummus, greek salad.. really anything on the menu, and i'm sure you will be impressed! Lately, there have been amazing nightly specials! I am pretty sure that wednesdays are LADiES NIGHT! lots of fun. its so versatile.. i go there with co workers for a happy hour cocktail, my family and I enjoy dinner there everytime they come to town, and my girlfriends and I go there to dance and party with their amazing DJ's! If you're looking for a delicious, slightly upscale dining situation, Zesty's is great! The food and service were both wonderful. The live music was a nice touch, but pretty loud. We asked to be seated a little further away from the speakers and they were accommodating. We started with the hummus plate, which was both beautiful and delicious, and then I had the gnocchi (the $19 option as I refuse to spend $29 for gnocchi in gorgonzola without a protein) while my fiance had the Greek sampler platter...wonderful! We'll definitely be back, but it is a little to pricey to make a regular stop. read more

I went and sat in the bar section of the restaurant with my boyfriend. I did not want to go to a noisy bar, I wanted some privacy but also some good drinks. The bartender was very friendly, professional and sophisticated, had so much positive energy in her and we had a great conversation with the great food. I ordered a sangria, and it was out of this world! Always good to have a good bartender and a good drink with some good company and food at the end of a tiring week! If you have not come to Zesty's recently, you will like the modern changes and the excellent. food. In summary: Zesty's locale has changed. Among other things it has a BIG bar where you'll enjoy the many hot and cold choices from the Bar Menu. The huge dinner menu has changed! Now you can choose and mix from 3 different Dinner Menus. Lunch also offers many different choices. (zestys.com shows only the older menus) My favorites are: - Octopus - The best around! - Crab Cakes - Zesty's still makes the best ones! - Chicken Lefkadas is a must (even if you do not like spinach :-). - Lamb - Arni Kapama is great (and you definitely get your money's worth!) Desserts are $6.00. If you like chocolate, see if they have their excellent mouthwatering mousse cake (with white, medium, and dark chocolate layers). The only reason I gave this place 1 star is because the system would not let me give it 0 starts. I ate here last Friday night and I can honestly say this was the worst dinner experience of my life. After arriving, the hosts said the kitchen is running slow. This was surprising since the place was not even half full. Our main waiter apparently was being shadowed by a waiter in training. My advice to the new hire, follow someone else. Our waiter was brutal. We were basically forgotten about. We finished our first round of drinks and sat there with empty glasses for most of the night. When we finally did get the chance to order a second round of drinks, our waiters did not clear our used glasses off the table. They also left the used appetizer plates on the table. Our dinners were served at least a few minutes apart. When I finally did receive my $25 Tuna Steak, the middle was so cold I decided to not even eat anymore. While looking into the kitchen I could see the waiters and waitresses arguing with each other. I'm not sure what they were concentrating on but I do know it wasn't the customers. The dinner took us over an hour and we only were served two drinks. There were so many problems with this place and that waiter that I will never go back to Zesty's. Overpriced and very poor service. Overall Zesty's was okay. Interesting retro-ish decor that I was not expecting. But my kids liked the fish tank, globe light fixtures, and slow changing color lights behind the bar. The random flashing lights on the ceiling seemed a bit out of place though. Food - definitely been to more authentic places for Greek and/or Mediterranean food, but wasn't bad. Was pretty salty (but many places are). Service was good, nothing to complain about. We were there super early for dinner with young kids though. Fairly pricey for a middle of the road restaurant with only medium portions. read more

Went to Zesty's last weekend on our quest to hit every restaurant on Main St sometime in our first year living in Manayunk. It was...good. The service was decent but nothing that stood out as special. We did find it odd that the waiter had no idea what wines they had. Not even the types. He had to go back to the bar to ask the bartender to make some recommendations. The food was very good, but expensive. I paid $22 for 3 jumbo shrimp and some rice pilaf. While it was very tasty, that's not really a dinner portion. The grilled calamari was also very good. I can definitely recommend that. If I didn't feel the prices were a bit too high I could give it 4 stars. But we just weren't impressed enough with the ambiance and service to overcome the prices. read more

I love it here. It is authentically Greek. When you pick a fish.......you get the fish, literally. So if you can't handle eyes and bones maybe stay away. The pita is homemade and always warm and fresh. The Greek salad (which I am all too picky about and can never find one just right) is PERFECT. Dip your warm pita bread in the leftover dressing. Hummus, baba, octopus and spanakopita are all good as well. I get the feeling that a lot of the wait staff is family and the men there have the cutest accents and genuinely want you to enjoy the food. read more

I went to this restaurant on a Saturday night with my family. There was a music ensemble that was much too loud and we were seated right next to them. I was there to eat and talk with my family, not to listen to music. It is a restaurant not a music venue. It interfered with significantly with our experience. We eat out very frequently and this was by far one of the worst experiences We have EVER had. I ordered a special grilled shrimp salad and when it came out it was completely rancid. Nice, serve a pregnant girl bad shrimp. When the waitress sent it back to the kitchen, she said the kitchen agreed it was bad and that it was "the dressing". Since when do you use dressing that smells like bad shrimp? So I ordered an appetizer instead. It took 45 minutes for my appetizer to come out. Obviously everybody was long done with their meal. The worst part was when we got the bill, they overcharged us for the app! We asked to speak to the owner who came to the table to introduce himself at the beginning of the meal, but he refused to come out!!! Can you even?!? Also our waitress never refilled our water a single time. Why I don't like to say all bad things, everybody else enjoyed their entree once the smell of bad shrimp dissipated from the table. Also after we complained about the overcharge for the app, the waitress removed the item from our bill altogether (why was this not done immediately or at least a dessert sent out after the terrible meal/experience??) Overall, weird decor, weird smell, bad service, very very very overpriced too. Not sure how this place survives with all the competition and the way they do business. I went for lunch at this wonderful Greek restaurant with a group of friends recently. As soon as you walk in the restaurant it is so colorful, the ceiling is painted light blue like a beautiful Mediterranean sky but of course it's the food that stands out the most. We started with a watermelon gazpacho soup that was recommended by our waiter. It was refreshing and delicious, with a little heat. We then had fabulous mussels with plenty of bread to soak up the broth. Next were some of the classic Greek dishes which everyone loved. Tasted like an iced coffee with a kick. Also had chargrilled calamari, very yummy. The level of service at this restaurant makes it abundantly clear why there were only 3 tables of diners on a Friday night. Actually, using the word "service" for what we experienced is a stretch. This restaurant doesn't have a wine list. They have a clunky plastic clad iPad that you have to pass around. The waitress had zero knowledge of said clunky wine list. When one of my dining companions asked for a dry Greek red, she had to go ask the bartender. When she brought the wine however, she didn't even bother to inform us what wine she brought. In addition, she shattered a wine glass across our table. I had glass on my plate and on my lap. No apology. She even tried to minimize the situation by saying, 'oh well, you only have one piece of glass in your lap'. For future reference - the only acceptable number of glass shards in my lap is ZERO. The entrees came out extremely staggered. Three came out, then about 4 minutes later, three more. Mine came out about 15 minutes later after all of the other people had finished their meals. I would have canceled my entree at that point, if I could have found our waitress. No apologies for the appalling service were made. No manager ever came to our table. Nothing was comped. The decor is hideous. They have massive fish in these tiny little tanks. It is sad. The place looks cheap, but the food is so expensive. The real shame is that the food was actually good. The char grilled octopus was amazing. The hummus was great - smooth, creamy, flavorful. No one at our table had any complaints about the food. But after that horrid service, I will never eat there again. And you shouldn't either. read more

Impressed! This restaurant was amazing. First, the decor was nice and the lighting was just right. Second, the music was not blaring. Third, the waitress and the host were friendly. So we ordered an appetizer. It was a fried cheese with lemon over it and it was amazing and they served like fresh bread on the side that was also good. Then I ordered the a stuffed chicken with spinach and feta that came out on top of potato fingerlings and green beans. Simply amazing! My wife ordered the moussaka with beef and she loved it. They also gave each of us an amazing bowl of butternut squash soup with sage on top of it and we also enjoyed that as well. Definitely recommend this place to take your date out for a nice, but romantic time. read more

This was my second time there and I will never go back. They are very disorganized. Our waitress was nice but very slow and could not multitask well, which is important as a server. They were out of several bottles of wine we were interested in and didn't actually get drinks until being there for 45 minutes!! Then the food took forever even though the place was empty. When we did get our food it was only mediocre and I love Greek so it was really disappointing.
