Came by earlier today for Memorial Day brunch and while the food was consistently tasty, the service left much to be desired. To begin, my family and I waited long enough for someone to come by our table after seating that I had to go up to the maitre'd to ask for a server. Our waitress finally came to warmly greet us, but that's where the positives end. She was otherwise largely absent for the rest of our meal and my wife and I had to ask other waitstaff to help us with clearing the table, the check, take-away boxes, etc. On top of that, I mentioned a Yelp check-in offer for a complimentary guacamole appetizer early on in the meal only to have our waitress completely forgot to ask her manager about it until after we had finished all of our dishes... On the bright side, our breakfast sandwich was top notch with its egg, bacon, cheese, aioli, and caramelized onions all in perfect harmony. The margherita's mozz and toppings were fresh though the thin crust was more like a flatbread in texture. Lastly, our son's French toast was fluffy and generously portioned. Ultimately, we enjoyed our food, but we were seriously frustrated and disappointed with the poor service especially with having to keep a close eye on our toddler's schedule. read more

This past holiday season, my wife and I decided that instead of cooking on Christmas, we would do a dine out. We got an email from Shade/Zinc saying that there were doing a dinner and we thought that would be fun! We're locals and have been there for happy hour and the food (and drinks) were always pretty good. When we made a reservation, we asked to be inside since it was a bit cold that day and it gets chilly and damp in MB at night. When we got there, the guy at the front started to seat us outside. Luckily, the manager was there and changed things for us back to the inside. When we sat down, the wait staff we had was a bit rushed (but at least nice). The menu was $95 for 3 courses (bread, salad, main and dessert). We ordered drinks (pretty good) and then had to wait a bit to order. When we were sitting there with our drinks, we noticed that it was pretty cold inside. People were all wearing jackets - including us. Why? Both entry doors were propped open creating a nice cold breeze. We asked the waitstaff to please consider closing at least one of the doors and they said they would "try". Sigh. Next, the food came out. Bread was meh and the salad was miniscule. When the mains came, at that point I asked for another cocktail. My wife had the polenta (didn't finish) and I had one of the meat dishes. Pretty unforgettable and a bit tough (I can't even remember what it was lol). once we finished the main, the wait person came back and said my cocktail was on the way. I had them cancel it since it was so late in arriving. For dessert I has the cake popsicles (3 tiny ones). The dessert reminded us of what we could get at Peet's Coffee. Sigh. At this point, they finally closed the entry doors, nearly 90 minutes later. Maybe the baby in a carriage bundled up in blankets in the middle of the dining area got it done. Hotel restaurant with happy hour Monday through Thursday and bottomless mimosas on Saturday/Sunday. Came here for drinks on a Sunday afternoon with a friend, and we got seated within 5 minutes (we had no reservations). Try to find street parking otherwise there's paid parking at the hotel. Credit cards accepted and they'll bring the machine to you. Bathrooms are available inside the hotel, to the left (around the bar). Indoor and outdoor seating is available. Quite a few people were celebrating birthdays when we went. It's good for big groups. They had live music when we were there, so the vibes were fun. They have cocktails as well as non-alcoholic options (primarily coffees and teas) available. We didn't try any of the food during this visit, but I'm curious to see how they'd taste during a HH. read more

We asked about honest reviews on food items and he answered all of our questions. You must have a reservation, or good luck. I ordered the crispy rice hordouvre and it was a rock ball of over cooked rice. It was horrible. So much that I was afraid that I would break a tooth. It ruined my experience altogether. When the cheery waitress asked how it was, I told her. She was not so cheery any more. We had a great brunch today at Zinc. Food was good but what was of note was our server, Jenna. She noticed one of our party barely touched her meal. She graciously asked if she did not like it. My friend admitted it was cooked well, just not what she expected. Jenna replied, let me remove that from the bill. You shouldn't have to pay if you didn't like it. Had a great experience at zinc@shade this past weekend! My friends and I decided to try this place on a whim for brunch, one of my friends is gluten free due to a slight allergy and zinc had options for her which was great! The drinks were good and refreshing especially since we sat outside during the slight heatwave, but thankfully the staff offered to move an umbrella for us to provide optimal shade which was very much appreciative! The restroom facility (women's) was quite clean and maintained as well. There was no wait for us which was surprising for a Sunday at noon and our server was sweet and attentive, I wish I could remember her name! I believe even the restaurant manager came by to check in with us, if I recall correctly his name was Nick Duffy who was also very kind. The outside section did have some other patrons let their dogs sit with them which to me is always a plus. The chicken pesto panini was delicious! The menu did say the sandwich was supposed to have sun dried tomatoes but it seemed like it had just regular tomatoes. Either way I didn't mind as the sandwich was still delicious! It came with a side and I opted for the seasonal fruit (not pictured because it was devoured quickly), all-in-all, it was a very pleasant experience! read more

Zinc lounge at Shade hotel Manhattan village is easily the best outdoor dining in South Bay in my opinion. In fact the dining areas are mostly outdoors so it's super cozy and comfy with heaters all over. We came in for an early dinner and chose a spacious couch for the four of us. The food and drink menus were so good and extensive. Food was more of tapa style so we had to order quite a few to share. The corkage fee was $25 per bottle so it was a bit steep. We brought our own red and white for the evening. Sister had a peach mimosa and I had a gluten free beer which were all refreshing. For food we had spicy tuna crispy rice, truffle fries, calamari as apps. For entrees we had steak, salmon, fried chicken, cheeseburger and gluten free pizza. For desserts I had cheesecake and espresso martini. The other were too full to have any desserts or more drinks. The food was very delicious and light as most restaurants in Manhattan beach. I like it that we don't have to worry about sodium and oil level at a restaurant like this. The service was so friendly but a bit slow at times. We really enjoyed a lovely evening at this nice outdoor lounge. We wanted to have Thanksgiving meal here but on site dining in LA county will be closed for a few weeks. So we preordered Thanksgiving meals from this restaurant, I hope it will be as delicious as dine in! read more

The Shade hotel is beautiful. The rooms are very nice and spacious. Our room had a comfortable bed with an end table which was nice. The restroom had a nice shower head and spacious tub with jets. I also love the wide array of toiletries provided. For the hotel the only thing I would change is the artificial orchids and artificial trees. The whole bottom level has such a modern vibe and I feel like the faux plants take away from that. The service is spectacular at the front desk, at the bar, and at the Zinc restaurant. The oat milk latte was tasty and refreshing. I really liked the braised short rib inside the burrito. The potions are very generous. The French toast was good too. Inside it had a similar consistency to bread pudding. We could have done with just the burrito. We were stuffed. Daniel was an awesome server! I use to work for Shade at their front desk about 6 years ago. I've since relocated to NYC and left the hotel industry, but it was so nice to re-visit Zinc @ Shade as their guest on my return and vacation to LA. Every reason I had such a connection to this spot and staff were validated in this return. The patio is just comfortable with a slight and relaxing breeze from the nearby shore. We indulged in their Avocado Toast, Filet Minon Beef Bites, Crispy Calamari, Lemonade, and topped it all off by doing decadent. The New York style Caramel and Spiced Apple Cheesecake was INSANELY good, accompanied by house brewed coffee. When coming to Zinc, you will be in great hands, especially if you have Gustavo as your server!! Loved working with that gentleman, and now sitting in his section of service...it's clear just how much of an asset he is to the entire company as well as a seasoned, charming, engaging culinary veteran who's insight and suggestions about the menus are priceless! Every time I return to town, I will be making a stop here. The food is stellar, the ambiance is serene, and the staff is absolutely wonderful and at the top of their game! We never knew this restaurant existed until they sent us a flyer in the mail. My wife and I decided to go there on a date night last night. The ambience was fantastic, the food was incredible, and our server, Cintia, was SUPERB!! My wife started the evening off with a cucumber pear martini, and I had a dirty martini w/bleu cheese filled olives. Both drinks were very good!! And since we've never been there before we decided to try three of the starter dishes so that we had a variety of food from the restaurant. We started out with the crispy rice, spicy tuna, it is a staple there. It's really good and it's a good version of the spicy tuna roll. I had the Peruvian soup which was very authentic and hearty. Then we ordered the filet bites. ALL food was Super good!! And, the best part is that every dish that we ordered was recommended by Cintia. She told us that she's worked there for five years and really knows her stuff there. She knows the food and drinks intimately. We highly recommend going there and experiencing what we experienced. They even sat us at a gas fire pit to eat our dinner. It was a very romantic date and we can't wait to go back. One last thing, their happy hour menu is really good. Came here for a friend's birthday brunch. We had a nice table outside. I have had the prime rib dip at SeaLevel at The Shade in Redondo. I really enjoyed it at SeaLevel, so I decided to get it here. I was sadly disappointed. It was the worst dip sandwich I've ever had. Mainly the au jus was a bowl of grease. It was flavorless grease. WT! I had asked our server and the response was that's how it is. Really? I expected the same quality food and taste as SeaLevel. Extremely disappointed. The Bloody Mary was good. Service was meh. Giving this four stars because they had an amazing live band (otherwise 3). We got one cocktail, one app, and two entrees and total (with tip) was a little over $100. So basically, it's spendy. The food was really high quality, like the tacos had a ton of good veggies in them. But not very vegan friendly, we basically just paid a lot to get entrees without chicken or fish. Food was definitely high quality, tho! And guac was excellent. I wouldn't come to eat here unless there is live music but I'm a young person that prefers a more casual and cost-friendly environment. AMAZING SERVICE!!! We had Victor as our server and he was so accommodating. We had the calamari as a starter. The calamari transported us to a world of flavor and pleasure.
