Matty is the best bartender in entire South Bay. All the locals of MB (and non locals too) definitely agree on that. Been to Zinc million times and it's always such a great experience. This is our favorite spot for a chill lunch or dinner. Parking is super easy, food and drinks are great, and the staff goes above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Matt is the best bartender. We've visited a few times, and he remembered our food/drink orders perfectly. He also has great recommendations when we're not sure what we want to order. I asked for a tequila drink that wasn't too sweet, and he created the perfect drink on the spot. On another visit, we needed to work and take calls, and Victor seated us at a table in a quieter spot next to an outlet. He was mindful of when we were in meetings, too. This place is pretty cool. Food is good but I think the service and the wait times could improve. I'm being considerate considering the fact that the pandemic is still rampant, however it takes quite a while to receive an order. I'll have to try this place one more time to confirm my impressions. With that I'd have to say the calamari is on point. I love comparing calamari from different restaurants. I'd have to say this place ranks in the top five. Food (4/5): If you're considering this restaurant and looking what they have available for breakfast, the current menu photos posted are not accurate. My party and I (5 people) basically can order everything off the menu. My boyfriend had a vanilla custard french toast, I had the avocado toast, mom had the eggs and toast, dad had the shade omelette, and my sister had the burrito. I personally didn't have an issue with my meal. The avocado toast was paired with a light vinaigrette, prosciutto, and I believe ricotta. The ricotta was warm and gooey which I appreciated because the rest of the dish was cold. I highly recommend the avocado toast! It's the perfect light breakfast for the person who normally doesn't eat breakfast. My only complaint is that most of the dishes for the most part were very light. My family was hungry after maybe 2 hours and we're not big people lol. Ambiance (5/5): There is a beautiful patio seating towards the back of the restaurant and near the hotel. It is pretty unique that the restaurant is attached to a hotel but it still does not take away from how elegant it looks inside. Really great place for a birthday or a romantic night out. There's also plenty of space if you're looking to seat a big party. Service (5/5): The servers took really great care of us and during this pandemic, I always appreciate the restaurants that take all the guests temperature before walking in and placing parties well above 6 feet away. ***SURPRISINGLY TOP NOTCH*** We came here for dinner on a Friday evening and were pleasantly surprised about the quality of food here. I expected it to be good but not great. I was wrong. Try the grilled branzino with lemon basil risotto. Lots of flavor and cooked perfectly. I'm not a salad person but I did like the Zinc Chopped Salad; it was filling and refreshing. I also recommend the spicy tuna on crispy rice. I regret not getting desert here, but I'm sure it's also very good. Easy parking in the garage below. Came here with fellow Yelper Tammy T. for DineLA, which was $30 for a three-course meal. We made a reservation in advance, but it wasn't too packed when we go there. PARKING + AMBIENCE The restaurant is connected to the Shade Hotel and a shopping area with many other restaurants. We got seating at the outdoor patio and it was a nice and breezy dining environment. I liked the modern decor and it was a great ambience to dine at. As for parking, we parked at the parking structure that's connected to the shopping area ($0.75/hr meters). This made for easy access to the restaurant as we just took the escalators up to the shopping area. FOOD We tried the Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice, Pork Belly Bao Bun, Zinc Chopped Salad, and the Angus Ribeye Steak. The Spicy Tuna was good, but the portion was really light, even for an appetizer. The pork belly buns were great and made a bit differently than usual, while the salad was forgettable. In fact, my salad was suppose to include smoked salmon, but they messed up. The Angus Ribeye Steak was delicious and I enjoyed this the most out of all the dishes. The meat was good quality and the mashed potatoes had perfect texture and taste. SERVICE Our waitress was friendly and displayed great customer service. I felt sorry for her, because she kept coming back and assuring us that the food was coming but couldn't deliver them. The fault lies with the cooks, so we were not mad at her. For some reason, it took way too long for us to get our food. I thought it would have been a one hour meal, but it became a two hour meal and we were just waiting for the next dish in-between the courses. CONCLUSION Value wise, it's worth it because the meal was more than $30. However, the long delay in receiving our food was disappointing. The slow service dragged down an otherwise good meal. The place wasn't even packed, so we were not sure why it took so long for us to receive our dishes. Overall, I wouldn't mind coming back, but only if my party really wanted to. read more

It's located inside a hotel connected to a larger shopping area with a huge public parking structure ($0.75/hr meters 3hr max). Atmosphere is nice with outdoor seating. For $29 we each got a 3-course meal with 1 appetizer, 1 salad, and 1 entree! I think it's a great value but the food wasn't particularly memorable (baos were solid as apps, salad was forgetful, steak was good but standard). It seemed like the entire kitchen was having an off might as well spent 2 hours from seating to completing our meal. It was entirely awkward because other diners were complaining and slamming their menus. We felt bad because our waitress kept checking on us but really couldn't deliver us our courses as they weren't done. I've been wanting to try this restaurant out for awhile now, and as soon as I saw them on the DineLA list, I immediately made reservations. I came during their lunch hour and ordered off the DineLA menu: Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice and the Yellowfin Tuna Poke Bowl. Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice: An excellent appetizer. The wasabi aioli just really made this dish!! Yellowfin Poke Bowl: This is actually one of the better poke bowls I've ever had. The fish was fresh and it comes with an abundance of flavorable toppings: seaweed salad, edamame, cucumber, togarashi, and spicy mayo and ponzu sauce. Only downside was there was a ton of white rice in this dish. I would either substitute it with brown rice or ease up on the portions. Otherwise, this is a top choice! Was gifted a family dinner from here and chose the Miso Salmon and included salad, rice, and grilled veggies. Because the dining room was closed, I can only review the food, which was delicious. I like fish, but I don't like when it's really "fishy" so this was just perfect. The miso dressing on both the fish and salad was perfect, and gave just the right amount of "kick" to it. This restaurant location is just a short walk from the Manhattan Beach Pier! Parking was easy as there are lots of parking lots nearby which only cost a few dollars (the underground lot is the closest). There was plenty of outdoor seating (even couches with tables) which was nice along with some fire heaters which were perfect for when it got later in the night. There was live music when we went and the older couple performing was very good which added to the ambience. My fiancé got the Caesar salad and I got the beef short rib, both of which were very tasty and quite filling. We also ordered some Aperol Spritzs which were refreshing. The cocktail were solid and comparable to other bars nearby. The pizza quality for a high end hotel was a frozen pizza at best. It should be wood fire pizza for that price (I.e. My friends got the fries before I arrived which were delicious even when I arrived and they'd been sitting for a bit. We did the Dine LA menu and all got the spicy tuna on crispy rice which was both beautifully presented and delicious! I got the saffron salmon while my friends got the steak frites. The reason for my deduction in stars is that my portion was literally a tiny fraction of theirs for the same pricing and with no major quality difference that we could tell, so it seemed like a bit of an odd pricing structure. I came to Zinc @ Shade for a MNO - which means Mom's Night Out. Woo Hoo! It's a great place for a Mom's night out. You do want to make a rezzy. We had a group of 12. The menu has a lot to offer, especially for drinks. Lots of drinks on the menu. The night we went I stuck with Aperol Spritzers but the next time I come back I will definitely try something new. For dinner I tried the chopped salad - you definitely don't want to miss this one, it's pretty amazing and it's not your normal chopped salad. Arugula, trail mix, salami, cheese, (some other items) and a creamy dressing. So freaking good. We also had the rib eye steak which was cooked to perfection with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. I didn't try any of the desserts, but they did have dessert also. After dinner we sat at a firepit and had another drink before going home around midnight where the restaurant was still bopping. I work locally and Zinc has become my go-to place for a good salad. I recommend the Caesar Salad, which is not a traditional Caesar salad but instead comes with all sorts of delicious toppings, including pepitas, roasted corn, tortilla strips, cotija cheese, and a yummy dressing!
