I made a reservation for a table for two the day before Valentine's Day and had to prepay through OpenTable. Unfortunately, I had a family emergency and canceled the reservation 15 minutes after making it. icalled the restaurant right away, and the representative told me to email the manager (TROPEZ) and call back the next morning to arrange a refund. I followed those instructions exactly -- I emailed the manager and called the next day. However, the manager never spoke with me and never returned my call. It's extremely disappointing to be told to follow a process and then be completely ignored. I understand policies, but basic communication and customer service should still apply, especially when the cancellation was done immediately and due to an emergency. I am so disappointed - the food and service was great, but I was shocked when my "side" of bacon arrived, and it was just a single strip of bacon. I had no idea that a "side" meant I'd only get one strip. But worst of all, this single strip cost $4.00. I get that we're in Malibu, but a single strip of bacon being that price is absurd. To be completely fair, we've been there twice the first week of opening. They've barely had a chance to work the bugs out so it is likely I will be updating my review shortly. I'm so excited to see something come into the old derelict Granita spot. I love the patio, I'm a little less in love with the high top tables in the front. If you're a smaller group of two or four and you don't have reservations, you will be seated with others. Not entirely horrible as at least the first week was packed full of neighbors, but I'm not sure I'm going to want to share a table every time I go if I don't have reservations. Some of the tables are ridiculously narrow, the place is crowded and noisy, and that's all fine as long as that's what you're looking for. Again festive and pretty, make sure you make reservations for either a booth or one of the tables in the back unless you just want to go and people watch. I was delighted to see one of our regular servers from Bui and Ollo. Our service was friendly as always in the evening, our lunch time experience was cordial, a little slow, but again, it's a new restaurant and crowded, because we're (locals) all so excited to have someplace new to try. The food, I leave this for last because I had such high expectations and I'm still waiting for those to be met. I tasted the burger which is visually gorgeous, and it's good. It's billed as grass-fed, three of the people I dined with, and I (lunch) did not get that grass-fed flavor. Perhaps it was overpowered by the delicious toppings, or maybe it is grass-finished, sorry, just does not get that wonderful flavor. For my dinner, I had the steak-frites and chimichurri. Medium rare, nice char and cook, however the chimichurri was just a ramekin full of oil. Another one of our party had the same thing and thought precisely as I did. I will say that the frits are one of my favorite items and theirs were really good. I would have been completely happy with just a pile of them and maybe a fried artichoke, but then hated myself in the morning! One of our friends had the tagliatelle with morels, good umami mushroom flavor creamy and lots of Parmigiano-Reggiano, and they loved it. I had a bite and had a good mushroom forward flavor. I did very much enjoy my cocktail, which I don't think was on the menu but was recommended by our server. It was basically a spicy margarita but had a nice balance and flavor from beginning to end. It had a pretty name but I forgot it! Again, really not completely Fair to review a restaurant the first week, so I suggest trying it out for yourself. I'm pretty picky, as are some of the people I dine with, we were all pretty much on the same page with a three-star, but we are clearly in a minority as thus far they seem to have a four and a half rating. There was a RAT!!! I saw the rat run along the cabinets at the back of the restaurant, near the bathrooms, and told a waiter. He looked around and did nothing. Some time later, I saw the rat AGAIN -- it crawled into the cabinet where alcohol bottles were. I called the bartender to look at it and he proceeded to kick the cabinet doors while laughing, then left it. Really disgusting and poor response to a health violation. Disappointing. I've never seen a rat in a restaurant let alone such a nonchalant response to hearing about a rat INSIDE the restaurant. read more

Mickey helped me expertly put together a reservation for our large group for my hubbys bday, he was so accommodating and pleasant to work with and had great ideas about appetizers and cocktails. Myia V our lovely server was so on top of everything we needed, friendly and helpful I would give her 10 stars Alan (not sure if spelled that right?) the manager was also accommodating and pleasure for our large group. I was there for lunch. It was okay but the food was not really hot, I did not complain, I like sitting outside and it a nice atmoshphere. I had a server that took my order, a bartendar, who handed me a drink. The restaurant seemed slow between a lunch and a dinner menu. I guessed either the server left or the bartendar was helping out. At the end of my meal a new server handed me the check to pay on one of those hand held credit card machine swhich showed my bill was $40 plus $4 tax. The lines under for "tip options" were 24%, and increments up to 32%. I usually tip 20% anyway and always in cash. I added no tip on the machine and gave her a $10 in cash. I left their feeling really unsettled, do they try to get away with this overtipping and hope people just sign the tab? That is very unprofessional and to assume a customer would not give you a good tip so you adjust the tips higher or the fact you deserve a tip that is so above standard that you insult the person that might have given you more had expected. Remember tipping is optional. I would never eat here again! read more

It is so exciting having this restaurant in this location in Malibu. This location has been vacant for over 20 years! The renovation was amazing and the place is beautiful and already has a wonderful vibe! We just went this evening and it was only their second day open! Given that, you would expect there to be some kinks to be worked out. Coordinating the kitchen, the servers and the bar is no easy task. The place was packed and they did not expect such a crowd on a Sunday night. There were a few service issues, but ya know what- it's their second day and they are doing just fine. The food was amazing and the vibe is exciting and refreshing. My wife ordered the vegetarian lasagna and I had the impossible burger with fries. Both were amazing. We loved the ambience with several different options on where to dine we chose the outdoor patio which was comfortable and quiet:) our server was great and very knowledgeable and attentive! Bearded young "dude" bartender is a certifiable SOB. I sat there listening to him SH%^talk all his customers after they leave, to other customers at the bar. "Yeah that guy came in last week and he was so..." "That girl is half his age and she got..." And to scam his customers, he automatically sets his TIP @ 20% when you get his iPad bill. You have to physically retap to change it. Walked out of there with a $30 bill for one martini and disgusted with all his low level talk.
