Fried noodle ($9.00): saimin cooked with cabbage, Spam, sweet pork, fish cake and green onions. $2.00 extra for fried chicken. My saimin is delicious, as usual. The fried chicken was tasty and crispy too. Fruit punch: me kinda likey. Chili omelette ($7.95): it was so ono. I loved eating the yummy chili with rice. Friendly worker, but she was kinda clueless. She asked what we ordered, literally 30 seconds after our order. The worker recommended us getting the small and large, so we could get a free refill. Ummm what happened to the free refill? Come for the food not the service. Loved the food. Got the zip pac. I recommend the zip pac. Great for the indecisive person that doesnt know what to eat. If you dont want the zip pac, get the fried chicken! I had the famous chili to see what it was all about and it was just ok. Try if you must. The service however sucked. The waitress was trying to rush us. She did not spark up a conversation and couldnt be specific on what was good or what she could even recommend. Then when checking out, she didnt bring back my change, like I was going to leave you a $4 tip for just taking my order and bringing it out. She didnt even refill my water! I would tip the cook but not the waitress. After talking to the bakery guy, he said that the fast food part on the opposite of the building was the same zippys food. Lady with no name tag on working register number 2, I know today is Halloween but you don't really NEED to be a witch... I came in today for a lunch date with my dad and boyfriend. I haven't seen my dad in a couple of months so we decided to eat and catch up. We came here unexpectedly (during my 45 minute lunch break) and right when we got in the door, she just stares all 3 of us down... We stand back and read the menu and decide what to get. It took us maybe about 4 minutes to finally make our decision and were ready to order. The whole 4 minutes, she just keeps saying "may i help you...are you ready" Ummm lady! You think if we were ready we would be standing in the back looking up at the menu?? yeah I no tink so.... So I told her "not yet, still deciding" When I told her that, her eyes rolled....Guys, for me, I don't take eye-rolling very well. It just really pisses me off for some reason. Finally, we were ready to order and with every order I am placing, she says the TOTAL. I....AM....NOT...DONE....ORDERING! I had 4 orders, and literally after each order she would say the total! My bf and I brought his parents, who were visiting from Maui, here for dinner since it was close to the airport. We visited the dine in section. It was not crowded, and I was glad, so I expected a short wait. I waited by the kiosk for five minutes and no one came. I looked around the corner and saw four servers talking and using their phones. I flagged one down for a table. My bf's mom ordered oxtail min(replace the rice with saimin) , but the server gave us a real hard time. We told her we would pay for oxtail and the saimin if it was a problem. She said she was going to check with her boss. She came back and said they were out of oxtail. We then ordered a zip pac and three hamburger steaks. The server brought a zip pac, two hamburger steak and a meatloaf. We told the server that we did not order the meatloaf and she offered to replace it, but my bf was starving at the time and said never mind. Imo, if the server made a mistake and brought the wrong food, it should have been comped or at least give some kind of discount. That did not happen. I also got food poisoning from the zip pac. I threw up four times when I got home. I haven't hurled in that manner since I had hyperemesis gravida with my second child. Needless to say, I will not visit this particular location again. This Zippy's always has been our next stop after a late night outing especially for us who lives in the Kalihi area. If I had a choice of which Zippy's to go to, I'd choose this one among the 4 that surrounds the Kalihi area. I suppose it's always the one location we think of whenever we need a place to eat after hours. We usually go to the take out area for quicker service. Our last dine in we chose to sit inside the restaurant area for a cooler environment. I wish I got the name of the girl that helped us because she gave us great customer service from beginning to end. She always checked up on us and made sure everything was okay. It made our dining experience that much more pleasurable. My go to meal at Zippy's is always Korean Fried Chicken, Chili Cheese Fries or Won Ton Min on a cold evening. Food has always been consistent whenever I go here so there's no complaints there. Although, Zippy's seems to be rising in prices, it's inevitable that we still continue to dine here. Always gonna be Hawaii's next stop place whenever people come here. read more

Tonight did a online order and ordered utensil too. When picking up food at 845p. Customer in front of us said outloud check your food don't wanna drive back well we did. Got to ala moana park and we got No Utensils to eat our saimin and chili bowls. The clerk that was packing our food was playing around and talking to the cooks instead of paying attention to her job. This review isn't about the food. The food speaks for itself. This 5 star review is for the service we received from Cindy I. She was a young woman in her early twenties and her professionalism is what I am writing about. She was polite, attentive and had great customer service skills. From when she showed us to our table and pointing out to us the newest wines they carried to also the specials of the day, to getting our orders to us fast, to offering us desserts to round out our night, she was very courteous and professional. Why do I write this since its something all of us expect? It's because this level of service is rare among people her age. She has customer service skills that most older people don't even acquire after years of training. Zippys upper management should take note of her and offer her opportunities where she can grow and flourish. She has a management career ahead of her, but she needs someone to offer it to her so that she can continue to be an asset to your company. Missed Zippy's so much that on my last trip to the Islands we stopped after landing at HNL (9pm) and ate at the Nimitz location on the way into Waikiki. They are open 24hours everyday. The Chili Spaghetti was fantastic, a no miss item on the menu. (Well, so is the Mixed Plate, Spam and Eggs Breakfast, Beef Stew, Meatloaf, Saimin, and then there's the Bakery - Chocolate Naples!) The Chili Spaghetti was plenty filling. Chili just the right spice and texture to wolf down after the long flight from LA. The two garlic/cheese toasts are toasted to a crispy delicate flavored on top but soft and tasty everywhere else :) Topped off the meal with a Saimin cup, so plentiful with the Zippy's unique Saimin flavor. What happened to the Korean fried chicken. No taste! Barely a drizzle of the sauce. Twice in a row like this. Used to love this dish.

After a fashion show nearby, I opted to go to this zippys instead of dillingham because dillingham location will literally take years to get your food! Considering we had a party of 13 people, our wait to be seated and receiving our food was relatively fast! However when it came to the service, completely horrible. Our waitress (young Asian girl) specifically gave only me attitude. When ordering our food I had asked nicely if I can do the patty melt sandwich instead with tofu patties (I'm vegetarian) and she couldn't let me finish my sentence before I got a simple, "no that's not possible". Didn't receive an "I'm sorry I don't think so" or "let me see what I can do" just a flat out no. And so I asked her to double check because they have done it for me before. She leaves to check and a manager comes over explaining how they can sub the tofu patties but it will be an extra charge, WHICH IS COMPLETELY FINE. She should have just told me that in the first place. We had ordered our drinks, and about 5 min later ordered our food. We received our water, food, and about 10 minutes into our meal she comes out with our soft drinks. Everyone got their drinks except me, she handed me my apparently lilikoi drink and says "this is your lilikoi, I know it looks weird, but I tried it and it tastes fine" WTF. Did she really think this was appropriate to serve to customers?! It looked like a cup of water with exactly three ice cubes. I tried it and it tasted like concentrated lilikoi syrup and warm water. She was the worst person ever to make us feel like shit like that and I had babies and kupuna in my party. She needs to get fired. She was the worst and the manager here let her do that. He was right there. She didn't and refused to seat us but did the haole after? Yea Pilau her and pilau the manager. They both should be fired for being discriminatory. Today I came in around 5:30 pm. I ordered quickly so I could get across town before sundown. I asked for fresh fried chicken and for it to be crispy. I relayed it to the lady who brought water to my table. I had a feeling she didn't relay it correctly to my waitress so when I saw my waitress, I made sure she was aware. I order it crispy because the juices will run clear when you cut into it when it's hot. Otherwise, there will be blood when you cut into the chicken. I learned this tip from one of my favorite Zippy waitress in Makiki. Unfortunately, the chicken was overly crispy and dry. It was more like chicharonnes than chicken. I found out from the waitress that the cooks had just fried the chicken then put it back in when it was hanging to fry it some more. They fried it too long and it made this meal very unappetizing. When I mentioned it to the waitress, she said Oh. I know it's not her fault, but rather the cook's. It's a shame that I paid as much as I did for something that wasn't made as I had ordered. Other Zippy's have cooked the chicken correctly - cooked through and with juices. Like I said this chicken was dry and practically chicharonnes. I didn't even get a refill in my soda until after I was done with the meal. Why did I pay over $3 when I could have had a small instead? read more

Dear Zippys...regarding your Nimitz Highway location...either close it or fix it. Please. Why should you close it? Because if you do, it wonʻt offer the temptation to pull in at 8:30 in the evening, hoping that maybe, just maybe...this time wonʻt be a disappointment. But no...tonight you only managed to have two people working the take-out counter, and one of them didnʻt seem to be able to handle. So the other one...the one with "Trainer" on her badge, had to man the register, take orders, then shuttle over to the other side of the counter to help fulfill the orders. Then both employees got into an argument with the kitchen over an "all-rice" order. So now, NO ONE was taking orders, manning the register, or fulfilling orders. They were just arguing with the kitchen. And then the more junior employee left the counter in what seemed to be frustration! Leaving the "Trainer" all by herself to man the register, take orders, and fulfill the orders. Resulting in an unacceptable wait time for my order. How to fix it? Better management. This location has always been a disappointment, which sucks, because the location COULD and SHOULD be of service to so many people who work early mornings, late nights, and everything in between. Your customers deserve better. Better service, and DEFINITELY better food. Oh, the food? The Zip Pac that I ordered was a sorry sight. The chicken was a burnt mass that didnʻt honor the poor chicken who had given its life to end up in that condition...the teri beef was a sad, TINY, dry, burnt piece of jerky, and the spam was another sad, burnt salty piece of jerky that would not have passed muster on a 17th century sailing vessel. So letʻs see...bad service, a long wait for food, drama behind the counter, and a $16 Zip Pac that was barely edible. At least the rice wasnʻt half bad. Having difficulty filling your positions? Then close the location so that you wonʻt offer disappointment as your main entree. Close it until you can adequately man the restaurant. Support your employees, service your customers, improve the quality of your food. Or just shut your doors. As for any future visits to Zippys (any location, as the issues that exist at Nimitz are indicative of the culture of your entire organization), I will be taking my business and my money elsewhere. read more

This location has improved their mobile take out service. They have gotten better packing the food by not forgetting the requested eating utensils and the proper sauce / dressings. They are a lot more efficient and food seems to be ready on time reducing the wait time. Great to see improvements happening at this location. Everyone must try their clam chowder soup of the day special. Very tasty & filling. I also tried their Friday Lau Lau / Kalua Pig special. This now one of my local favorites. read more

This location is by far my must go to places every time I come to Hawaii. Zippy's has a very delicious chili. You can buy it at the stores outside of Hawaii in California but nothing is better than having it on an omelette made right there. Zippy's is "home". Try the fruit punch! It's not the same fruit punch you've ever had. Oh and the Surf Pack is another must have each time. This place takes 2 visits! Arrived at 8:15am from Tokyo and the of course the first spot I visit for breakfast was the first I spotted on my way to Waikiki. There are 2 sections... if you want a relaxing atmosphere with a waitress then hit up the dining area if not (and no like tip) then just go to the more casual side. There was a guy sleeping on one of the tables next to us... i guess you can just cruise here over a drink. Arrived to a breakfast only menu but $4.50 price point and volume was just enough. Went with Breakfast Bento #3 (Corned beef hash, Portuguese sausage, scrambled egg and rice). You really can't go wrong... whenever you order sausage or corned beef it always tastes the same so no hit or miss. But the rice was on the very brittle dry side... oh well. read more

Also when tor my saimin it had char sui and onions which I specifically said none of those. Anyways got my food and it was horrible. The fries was cold. It's very upsetting. Next Stop Zippy's Nimitz seems to fit the picture after finishing a great movie next door! This Zippy's location is in a great spot for locals, tourist, and businesses near by to grab a snack, grind, or just have a late night hangout spot before the long drive home. Their mini-plates always seem to make me full: from their famous chicken plates to famous chili and daily specials! I know every time I leave Zippy's, not matter the location - I always have to check on their napples! Best drive home snack there is! Even if the car gets messy on the way home. She only had one other table she was serving before us and they still hadn't gotten their order taken either. We got no apologies, no acknowledgment from her for making us wait when she finally came to take our order...and apparently she forgot her uniform - dressed in a black shirt without the Zippy's logo. We know it wasn't the kitchen's fault because two tables who were seated after us in other servers areas got their orders and food delivered before our entire table of five got our food. We could see our last two plates in the window but she only brought one stating the other plate was waiting on the Mac salad which is usually pre-made at most Zippy's restaurants. My omelet came an hour after we sat down. My father has been coming to Zippy's over 40 years and he said this was the worst service he's had, ever. read more

My first Zippy's experience marked the start of my first time in Oahu, or Hawaii, ever. After hearing about this popular chain from multiple friends, we stopped by the closest one from the airport after a late flight in from LA, ready to sample the menu and it's mythical chili. Personally I wasn't in the mood for the chili and ordered the mix plate lunch instead, consisting on the mahi mahi, chicken and korean BBQ beef. Overall I thought it wasn't too bad but a little dissapointing compared to some of the plate lunch fare from chains on the west coast, everything having the feel of being a little dry and overcooked, or perhaps it was just the late hour of the night... The Nimitz location came across as a little ghetto, later confirmed by local friends who preferred other locations much better. This location was almost half fast food seating and half family sit down diner a la Denny's. Well according to yelp and google there's about a dozen locations in the Honolulu alone, I'm pretty sure I'll check out one more before I leave. read more

Oh Zippy's. I'm writing this review based on the fact that it's a fast food joint, and that it serves local Hawaiian food. Obviously, this is unhealthy fast food food. Thick slices of teriyaki beef, fried chicken, and spam in the surf pac - that's some filling and comfort food right there. Cheap crackers dipped in their hot (and mayo-thickened) chili and everything just screams yum. It's all slightly better than average, but compared to McDonalds or Burger King, Zippy's wins by service and taste. It isn't much of a fine dining joint, or even close, but for cheap food on-the-go, Zippy's has got your back. Think it's more popular among locals than tourists. One of my friends who grew up on the island always talks about eating a double breakfast at Zippy's. And he's not the only one to gush about it either. read more

As soon as I arrive on Oahu I get my bags, rental car, then straight to Nimitz Zippy's. I usually order a Zip Pac/Surf Pac or a Chili Chicken mixed plate. Can't go wrong with either of the items mentioned above. One of my favorite things to order is chicken katsu topped with the chili. I call it Chili Katsu, not sure if they have it on the menu though. If not, it's easy to make it yourself. Many drunken nights after the club ended up at this particular Zippy's. I'll start with the very good. August 2021 and their safety protocols are unmatched. The waiter/greeter cleaned those booths like he was prepping for surgery, and then he washed his hands up to the elbows and donned new gloves. Not only were all the booths separated by Plexiglass, but they still closed every other booth just to be extra safe. Now the bad. From entering to dining was close to 45 minutes. Not nice if you are hungry and frankly you could drive a bit further away and be finished and out in less time. The temperature in the dining room was 52 degrees Fahrenheit, with the vents right over the seating. When you are dressed for 85 degrees, you have to go to the car to grab coats, and then you still freeze. The hot food is cold before you can finish it. The food is consistent. Never amazing. It's a local thing. But not worth the discomfort of eating inside a refrigerator, albeit a clean one. read more

Went to the dine-in side of this Zippy's at about 7:50 on a Saturday night and stood at the "Wait here to be seated sign" for about 10 minutes without any of the staff greeting us or saying that they would be right with us. They knew we were there as they looked at us and passed by us to tend to the register or to pick a dish for seated patrons. A greeting or just letting us know how long the wait would be would've been much appreciated. Sad to see that customer service has gone down. As we began to partake in, what looked so delicious, we notice dust on one of the bacon. Then dust on the garlic bread. Then a bigger piece of dust on another bacon.
