Classic zipmin meal post hike on a rainy day... it doesn't get bettah than that brah. Throw in some hot mustard while ya chow down. Maybe grab a side of rice and chili, too. Mmmm chef's kiss.

The Nimitz location is our "go to" for picking up lunch. The food is consistent, and online ordering makes the process pretty painless. I usually get sweet sour spareribs with fries if the dish is available ... It's a special, not on the daily menu, but it is a regular item on their rotating list of specials. If they don't have it, I get the Korean Chicken salad or a ZipPac. The prices keep increasing ... A sign of the times. One thing we have notices is that the some of the portions have been downsized ... We don't know how they do it but the fried chicken thighs seem smaller than in years past. And, there is less rice in the ZipPac, which strikes us as strange because rice is probably the least expensive item in that dish.

Zippy's on the Nimitz is my favorite spot to get food to go for my flight home. Little crackers and a couple of cookies on Southwest isn't enough to hold me on the flight home. This review is more of a price update than refreshing my last review. I grabbed a spaghetti and garlic bread meal to eat on the flight home. It was good as usual. Staff was nice, ordered my food, got out and to the airport early. If you have time or not a lot of time, this location is on the way to the airport on the Nimitz. A quick 10 to 15 minutes and you'll have yummy food to eat on the plane. Lots of choices to choose from so plan ahead.

Always a must when we arrive in Oahu after leaving the airport. The local diner to check out if you wanna try something different and a local favorite. It's always a comfort of home feel when you dine at this place. I get the korean fried chicken mini plate (because i cant eat like i used to anymore) but its just the right amount of food for me. The favorite of my family is the oxtail soup and the zip pac with chili. Try it. The service was good and the part that got us this trip was the extension of seating we got For our party. The booths dont look big enough for our party but auntie made sure to remove the partition of the booth so we can sit with together with our family.

Really glad we came here. It's hard to describe the food in one or two words if you haven't been Zippy's. As someone from Florida, if I could sum it up in a couple of words is comfort food. We got the triple chicken, the Zip Pac and oxtail tail soup, along with a side of Portuguese sausage. I think the triple chicken was the best one of the bunch but you can't go wrong with anything here. It's also worth trying desert too. The atmosphere has a sort of diner vibe that's really cool and laid back. Our server was helpful and friendly. I would definitely repeat!

It wasn't exactly lunchtime, but I didn't feel like eating an omelette. I go to this location quite frequently there are a lot of things that I could eat, but Zippys especially this location is my favorite go to because of the staff.... It's so important because my parents really like the women that work in the mornings... Tess, Marianne, Wendy, and Arlene. These ladies are so accommodating, and they're so good at their job... The veggie tofu burger is really my favorite item. It is as good as the rest of the Burgers. I've had a chance to try most all the burgers at one point until my diet changed ... lol. I like the veggie- tofu burger most cause it's not heavy. When you get a chance to go to this location, make sure you're there between 10 to about 1 PM. That way you can get help by one of the four waitresses that I mentioned. I do recommend a lot more dishes that I've eaten there as you can see the post with a lot of photographs but I really like the veggie tofu burger. It's absolutely agree midday lunch, brunch type of item. Especially when you eat indoors for this location, it's really nice it might have a bit of a chill for some people so maybe bringing a small longsleeve jacket or some thing but other than that it's really nice location for a sit down in door restaurant ...

Came here once we landed in Hawaii. They had two sides for dinning. One side is more of a dinner and the other side it like a bakery and dinning. There was so much to order and to try out. They have rice dishes, chili, noodles and breakfast items. I chose the surf platter that had chilli, rice, spam, teriyaki chicken and fried chicken. Everything was delicious and amazing. I was so full for the night. I and interested in going back to try out their noodle plates.

After seeing an amazing live performance at TAG, we walked over to Zippy's for an early dinner. It wasn't too busy so we were able to get a table right away. It had started raining and the air was a bit chilly so I had my favorite Won Ton Min, with sriracha sauce. Hit the spot! Our server, Theresa, was a class act, fun, efficient and very accommodating. Give this woman a raise!!

About a 2-2.5: Think of Zippy's as like an IHOP of Hawaii - they offer an extensive menu of breakfast, burgers, sandwiches, noodles, soups, daily plates, and bakery items. We came here for an early dinner, and we tried: +the Hamburger Steak daily plate - this came with a hamburger patty that was topped with grilled onions and brown gravy; served with two scoops of rice and a mac salad; the hamburger steak was actually juicy, savory, and yummy, especially with the generous pour of the gravy +the Chili & Chicken Mixed Plate - this came with 2 pieces of fried chicken thighs and chili; usually the chili is served on a side of rice, but I substituted it for fries; the chicken was over-fried and wasn't seasoned well; the chili itself is slightly sweeter, and the taste was just mediocre; I was disappointed that they forgot the mac salad, but after sampling it from the Hamburger Steak plate, I'm glad it was not included as it had a slight off taste to it I tried the Orange Bang, which was their version of an orange creamsicle/orange float - it was okay, but I did like the fact that they serve beverages in a larger cup. Service was a little slow, but friendly; I was surprised at the space of the restaurant, as it was larger than what it seemed from the outside. There is a small lot to park your car in front of the restaurant. +avoid the chili and the mac salad +slow service +parking available in lot

We decided to come here right after our flight of course, and it was pretty good. The fried noodles were good. Everything was pretty good besides the chili moco. The chili moco was good but it wasn't as good as it usually is. The patty was burnt with no taste... The service was great. The wait time was non-existent and the parking was easy. Ambiance is casual as usual.

I'd never been to their other locations, so this was my first experience -- and honestly, it left an impression. That spot in Kapolei has seen a few restaurants come and go over the years. Before Scratch Kitchen, there was Sugar Cane, and if I reach far enough back, I'm pretty sure a Mexican restaurant lived there too. It's one of those spaces where you hope the next place finally sticks. But the food at Scratch Kitchen? Absolutely delicious. The kind of meal where the pictures alone make your mouth water. If "smell‑a‑vision" or "lick‑your‑screen" technology existed, everyone would understand exactly what I mean. Every dish was full of flavor, beautifully done, and perfect for a Mother's Day treat. Which is why I can't help but wonder what happened -- like so many restaurants before them in that same location. With food that good, you'd hope they'd be the ones to break the cycle. All in all, I'm grateful I got to enjoy that meal with my daughter. It was memorable, delicious, and one of those small moments you hold onto. Marie

Light, crispy shrimp with a flavorful slaw and just the right amount of heat--basically a flavor party in every bite. The burger was another quiet star. Juicy patties, nicely seasoned, and stacked just right. Nothing super flashy, but really satisfying. Definitely a good pick if you're not in the mood for brunchy stuff. The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.

We sat at a two-person table and still had plenty of room for all of our food, which is always appreciated because nobody wants to play plate Tetris during dinner. We ordered the Wagyu and the chicken tonkatsu, and both were so good. The Wagyu was especially fun because we got to grill it ourselves at the table, making the meal feel more like an experience than just dinner. The chicken tonkatsu was crispy, juicy, and exactly what we were hoping for. I also loved that they offer refills on the cabbage and vegetables, just like in Japan. It's one of those small touches that makes the whole meal feel more authentic. The highest praise came from my preteen, who said it was the best tonkatsu he's had outside of Japan. Honestly, that is a serious review from a kid who knows his tonkatsu. Great food, fun experience, nice ambiance, and a little Japan-in-Honolulu moment. We'll definitely be back.

While the ambiance could be a little better, the food was a hit and delicious at the same time. It was nostalgic to be in this place since it's been a while since I was here when it used to be a ramen place before it became a burger joint in Kaimuki. My friends and I decided to dine in and enjoy the evening. We all ordered a burger combo and it came with fries and a drink, the normal tradition of fast food. I ended up getting the Carolina onion burger with double patties and the spicy garlic fries. The tab was over $20 but for the first time, it was worth it for sure. It can get pricey for burgers and fries, but if you love double patty burgers, you're going to love having one here at Boarded Up by Chubby's burgers Kaimuki. My friends and I spent about 1 1/2 hours here eating and chilling afterwards. I ended up grabbing a milkshake to go, which was almost $10. The end result was delicious and very calorie dense. It was definitely a cheat meal and to celebrate a friend's birthday. The overall experience here at Boarded Up by Chubby's burger's Kaimuki was very good and quite the nostalgic piece because I've been here before Boarded Up took over the space and remodeled it as their own. The restaurant was very small as I remember it, boasting a bunch of tables in a limited space. The vibe was okay but the food was good. The service was quite good and friendly. They make everything made to order so you'd have to wait a good amount of time before you can eat. The restaurant itself is clean and easy to get to. The milkshake at the end was delicious as an after dinner drink to cap off a birthday celebration. For the most part though, having this new burger joint was good and a welcomed addition into the Kaimuki business ohana. If you are ever looking for an authentic alternative to the usual suspects and in the Kaimuki area, consider coming to this heavenly place where you can get in your burger fix for a reasonable price. While these burgers can be a bit pricey, you can be sure they are good and delicious which is the ideal set up. Everything is good here and definitely worth a try and sample. Make Kaimuki your destination here on Oahu and come on over to taste the delicious difference. The Carolina onion burger is pretty amazing and hope you will try that too. Ask for extra onions. Boarded Up by Chubby's Burgers is located in the Kaimuki district of Honolulu, Hi. It's physically located at 1108 12th Avenue next to the gas station on Harding Avenue. It's a stand alone building. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. As far as parking goes, there's a paid municipal lot right adjacent to the restaurant for the area's businesses. Quite nice for sure or you can find residential street parking nearby where you can find it. If you are like me, a few bus routes stop near the area. Namely, routes 1, 1L, 14, and 7. The popular bus stops runs along Koko Head Avenue and Waialae Avenues. Then there's always Uber and Lyft that can be the one that will get you here to where you need to be. And so, come here and come hungry. It's one of the best hidden gems in Kaimuki town. 5.0 stars for the overall experience even tho the ambiance is okay. Support local! A+

I liked the old chubbies a lot so I decided to try them again with their rebrand!…read more The space is quite quaint and cute, like an old style diner but with great branding. The burger I ordered was the one with caramelized onions and the burger itself was okay but the onions were a bit burnt so I definitely did not enjoy that as much. Service was great though and they came out with it fast.

We have been coming here for years; food is always good, not great…read more We came on a Thursday morning around 9:30 am; and figured we wouldn't have to wait, oh, were we wrong, there were 10 people in front of us. The wait actually wasn't that bad, maybe 15 minutes. It is a typically diner, counter seatings only. The service wasn't great, but not rude; they take your order and they bring you the food; no pleasantries or small talks, I guess they need to turn the tables (counter seats) quickly. We had the loco moco with fried rice and hamburger steak with multi-grain rice and toss salad; they didn't offer a choice of dressing, but the default asian dressing was delicious. The food was good with very big portions; I had a hard time finishing my loco moco. They served it with lots of yummy brown gravy, the way it should be. My wife enjoyed her hamburger steak as well. Oh, don't forget to visit the bakery side after eating; they have many super yummy baked goodies!
