Wowza, the ambiance here is spectacular. Offering outdoor patio seating, Zizou is THE SPOT for date night, gals and pals catch ups, and all things right. Specializing in Moroccan cuisine, there's so many standout dishes to choose from. I loved the refreshing Moroccan salad, steamed mussels, and steak fritas. There are a huge portion of mussels and fritas though. Pro-tip: dip the fritas in the mussels soup when you get to the bottom. It's impeccable. The staff here are superb and checked on my group frequently. If you're looking for lossless and funk music with excellent eats, this place is perfect.

Such an intimate vibe; lots of young people, relaxed and upscale feel, very diverse menu and good for meat / seafood, some vegetarian / vegan options. Loved the portion sizes and service was great! Fairly dark interior at night and red lights everywhere if you're sensitive to that - would definitely come back. Great for special occasions or sexy evening cocktails

Super unique place! I really enjoyed the ambiance. This is a true hidden gem in all aspects of the phrase. You would totally miss it driving down the street. The minute you walk in, you are hit with these red lights and loud, funky psychedelic music. It's a VIBE. I love how it's an indoor/outdoor space and very dimly lit. It's cozy and intimate. I saw some larger groups dining together as well as lots of couples. We came for date night and it was a total experience. The menu is a little on the small side, but they have a great wine list! If you loved chilled reds, you'll be a happy camper. They only have wine and beer. We had the mussels with fries, braise short rib and couscous for dinner. Plenty of food for two. We were actually full after the mussels and short rib, even though the short rib only came with three pieces. The meat just fell apart! Delicious. All of the flavors were amazing and authentic to Moroccan cuisine. Service was great, but a little slow at times. I think it's a smaller operation they run here. We also went on a Sunday night, and it was pretty chill. The inside was empty but the patio was filled! Would totally recommend if you are looking for a little flavor adventure and vibey night out.

Came here on a Saturday night around 9pm. This little hidden place was super cool. On the outside, I was thinking "where are we??", but when we got inside, it was a cute and intimate Moroccan vibe restaurant. When you first enter, there's a bar to your left and you pass through there to get to the main dining area. It was an outdoor eating area with cute trees and casual ambience. Dimly lit, with red lighting, cool music, and a little dance floor to get your groove on. Things I didn't like: - bathroom was dark asf, couldn't see, there was only red lighting -only serves beer and wine -owner was our server, who was kinda grumpy the whole time because we had a large party and had to cancel and get a smaller table However, food was reasonable priced and delicious! Must try the calamari, short ribs, and steak and fries.

5++ stars for ambience. Like the vibe is just too good. 3.5-4 stars for food tbh, but the vibe is so good I literally don't care. The food is good though. It's not mind blowing or anything, to be sure. But would I come back again and again to split a steak frites to with my friend to nosh on while we yap over a bottle of wine or two? For sureeee. Steak frites was a solid 4 from me. Would probably pass on the spinach puffs and the Morrocan salad appetizers we got, though. I saw some negative food reviews that had me hesitant, and I totally hear them. It's just such a stunning atmosphere and the food LOOKS so good with such an interesting fusion of cultures--expectations are high. Especially here in LA. But if you go in with reasonable expectations to enjoy the atmosphere, Zizou is still hits the mark in my opinion. We got one of the French orange wines and it was DELISH. they have an orange wine from Chile too, which I thought was interesting. Server was a lovely gal. Also parking is street parking so just be aware!

I really enjoyed the vibes and aesthetics of Zizou! When you walk in it feels like you stepped into a Moroccan open patio oasis with French rap blasting in the background. They only serve wine and beer right now, but their spritz was super refreshing. Food wise is somewhat small yet had something for everyone. I really enjoyed their tabouleh francais, sautéed veggies on toast and their ribeye with their peppercorn sauce. It tasted homey and were good portions to share.

Came for brunch. It seems that it would be best to get here for dinner . I asked for the steak and fries, but it is 11:45 and we didn't know we couldn't order lunch . The Brunch selection is very small, not a lot of options. The ambience is great . So it seems if you visit early, it's just for a small hang out and not a celebration until dinner time . Food was different. It took a while to get our food though , even though the restaurant did not seem busy. We got here at 11:10 and didn't get our food until 12:26pm . I would want to come back and try their lunch/dinner menu. Maybe next time it will be a better experience here.

Zizou is a labour of hard work, dedication and love, to be exact 4 years of craftmanship. Owners converted an empty space to a foodies' paradise. Whether you dine inside which offers a cozy atmosphere or outside surrounded by palms and sweet and delicious dragon fruits, you will not be disappointed. We ordered the steak and frites, which the steak is so buttery and melts in your mouth. The mussels were perfect and the broth so savory. You have to try the spinach puff pastry which must be accompany by a glass of wine. The service: first, we did not make reservations but they were able to accommodate us. Most tables were reserved. Tip: make reservations. Second, we felt like royalty, the server and one of the owners kept checking on us. This made our time at Zizou very special. Check it out and cheers, Barbara

Back again! This time for their new brunch menu. This was the perfect spot to catch up with a friend I hadn't seen in many many years. Per usual, delicious authentic fair. The pancakes were the standout for me--not too sweet, perfectly shareable and interesting texture that was sponge like with the in house made syrup. The Moroccan tea was also a delightful ending to our meal (wish it was bigger though). Service was on point also--it was cool to indirectly meet + be taken care of by one of the owners Boris and a lovely woman I didn't catch her name but her French accent is so endearing and we enjoyed chatting about the neighborhood with her. See you sooner than later (amazing DJ and producer, J Rocc will be on the decks this Friday 5/23!!!!!).

What an adorable cute new spot in the middle of LA!! We were originally trying to go to another spot that ended up being closed on Sunday and happened upon Zizou around the corner. It was a pleasant surprise, as soon as we stepped in, I knew we were in for a treat. The ambiance is gorgeous, reminds me of being in Europe! I love that it's all outdoors in a patio space with plenty of plants and greenery. We ordered the calamari to start, which was absolutely delicious. The breading was perfect and not too heavy, and the calamari itself was tender and so yummy. The sauce it came with had a little kick to it, what a perfect addition to a creamy sauce!! For main course, we ordered the steak frites to share. The steak was amazingly tender and cooked perfectly (medium rare) - the fries were thin and also done so well. I loved that they were thin and not thick fries! At the moment they do not have hard liquor, only beer and wine. Hence the 4 and not 5 stars quite yet, but they're definitely a solid 4.5 stars! Definitely a spot that's worth returning to. Congrats to the new owners!! It's brand spanking new!

It's surprising to find a restaurant like this in Lincoln Heights and a welcome addition to the neighborhood. The ambience and decor are really pleasing, nice soft lighting, excellent background music, and a lovely patio with comfortable seating. One of the owners told me that they had spent four years building this place themselves. It's obvious they take just pride in what they've accomplished. How I wish they had worked harder on the food. My partner and I both love Moroccan cuisine and had high hopes for Zizou. So I wish I could be more enthusiastic about what we ordered. We started with the samourai calamari. It was passable, but a little overcooked and somewhat rubbery. The spinach puff pastry looked and sounded amazing but it also fell flat, very bland and too dry. But the biggest disappointment was the almond and apricot tajine with chicken. We struggled to find any taste in it. The rice had no flavor and the chicken was also too dry. We fought over the two apricots we found. So as much as I love the idea of this place (and the service was very good too), I hope they invest as much time and care in the menu as they have in the restuarant itself. I wish I could have given them at least four stars, but I have to be honest about our experience. However, don't be discouraged from trying Zizou! Maybe they were just having an off night.

Having visited Morocco, we were looking for some authentic tajine-prepared food, and Zizou did not disappoint. The almond & apricot chicken tajine dish had great flavor. The chicken was seasoned well and the apricots were cooked perfectly. We also tried the Moroccan salad, which was delicious, and the steak frites dish. The steak portion was pretty big, and it was very tender. The overall ambiance of the place was cozy and perfect for a date night or after-work meet up. It was all very "Moroccan", and the vibe was great.

The chicken liver mousse was exceptional: impossibly smooth, deeply flavorful, and perfectly balanced by the toasted bread and fresh chives. The steak frites was cooked beautifully and paired with a peppercorn sauce that was rich, bold, and worthy of being soaked up with every last fry. The meal finished on a high note with the chocolate soufflé--perfectly risen, intensely chocolatey, and absolutely worth the wait. Beyond the food, the atmosphere captures the charm of a true Parisian bistro. The service was warm, attentive, and professional throughout. The beets and nuts were nice but pretty overwhelmed by the horseradish, even when I tried to avoid getting any of it on my fork. And I'm not a person who hates horseradish, by any means. I would try the Boston lettuce salad next time. Steak frites - the fries were evenly crisp (fried in clarified butter), the herb butter sauce was fresh and light, the steak was a nice medium to medium-rare, even on a piece this small. I would definitely get this again. I'm not sure what the portion difference is between the prix and the regular, but this felt well worth the price we paid as part of the prix fixe. Big Mec Burger - The burger, while cooked nicely medium rare, was a difficult knife and fork burger, due to it sitting in a pool of demi glace. The flavors of the burger were nice, but they might get a little taken over by the sauce. It is an incredibly expensive burger, and I question it's worth. Chocolate mousse - topped with cacao nibs, dark chocolate shavings and hazelnuts. A very rich milk chocolate flavor and a much stretchier almost pudding like texture than I have encountered in a mousse before. Honestly not my favorite dish. I would try the puff pastry option next time! We also got: French onion soup - big pieces of onion in here, that they maybe did not cut the entire bottom of the onion off of. Peppery, but not overly so. It was flavorful with a very satisfying amount of cheese, baked perfectly on the top. Felt like it could have used one more element....salt? Or an herb? It was good but we didn't find it outstanding, especially for the price. Overall, only the prix lunch deal (12-4 M-F) felt worth the price. I'd definitely come back here for that. We were interested in a couple of other menu items that we didn't try, so we'll likely be back someday. I've had better versions of everything we ordered at a better price elsewhere in town, tho. We ate in the bar portion of the restaurant. Service was helpful, friendly and leisurely. Probably a place where you'll have to flag your waiter down, as they're trying to let you enjoy your meal unhurried and uninterrupted. Bathrooms were clean and well appointed. Patio area was closed due to rain when we dined but it looks like a nice space with plenty of shade.

It had a good acidic component from the vinaigrette and the broccolini themselves had a good bite to them. - Market lettuce, mango -- another bright dish that was needed for health purposes. It was bright and summery and delicious. MAIN - *Croque Madame -- a table favorite; I will say we cut it into 8 slices and we felt like it was enough richness with the one bite we had. I thoroughly enjoyed how fluffy the bread was and how it soaked up the sauce - *Abalone and Bay Scallop Pot Pie -- also another favorite with the richness of the pot pie. Ample mushrooms which I thoroughly enjoyed. The puff pastry was also very flaky. The "pot pie" is more butter based so it is a rich dish. - Spaghetti Bolognese -- perfectly al dente pasta; a good bolognese but nothing to write home about for me - *Loup de Mer -- enjoyed the flaky yet tender fish that paired well with the sauces in the dish. I enjoyed that it didn't feel overly heavy, but the dish matched the thickness of the fish itself - *Pekin duck breast -- served medium rare which was perfect. I didn't get much peking flavor, but did enjoy the skin and cut of the duck breast. The french fries were also nicely seasoned. DESSERT/DRINK - Espresso martini -- I would skip. I was disappointed by the drink itself. Pandan can often have an artificial vanilla taste and that artificial taste unfortunately was the major note of the drink. It also tasted quite watery which was a disappointment - Chocolate Fondant -- a molten lava cake; nice and hot. The restaurant paces the food well so you feel satiated, however, I think I would prefer to have had things come out a little more quickly. All our mains were served one by one which led for idle hands at times.

The owners added to the warmth of the space genuinely welcoming, the kind of presence that makes a place feel personal rather than polished-for show. The sea bass was the standout: perfectly crisped skin, buttery and delicate underneath, resting over earthy lentils that soaked up every bit of flavor. Paired with a smooth Malbec, it all came together effortlessly. But honestly, the best part of the night wasn't just the food or the wine. it was the company. The soft candlelight, a shared table, and her next to me made everything taste better. A spot that feels intimate without trying too hard. Definitely coming back.

You even get to select your own knife made in France if you order the ribeye. Amuse-bouche: perfect cheesy bite Onion tartine: I can't stop thinking about this. It's SO good! Sourdough bread, topped with French cheeses and a gravy, like a deconstructed French onion soup. Devine. Endive Salad: a light, refreshing Cesar salad with a passion fruit twist. Tartare: Made perfectly flavorful, paired with a basil leaf coated in - light tempura batter, delicious. Ribeye: Tender and juicy. Mushroom Pithivier: Who knew mushrooms could be cooked in such a buttery, flavorful way wrapped up in a delicate heavenly pastry. Potatoes: Again, who knew little potatoes could be cooked in a way that makes each bite taste so creamy, yet simple, but so delicious?! Asparagus with Bernaise sauce: Cooked perfectly. Lobster Risotto: Creamy, tomato-based sauce, with perfectly cooked risotto topped with delectable lobster. Le Burger and pommes fritte: The burger is so juicy, rich is flavor, the meat literally melts in your mouth. The fries are too salty. Kiwi: Unfortunately I'm allergic and couldn't try it, but everyone in my party LOVED it. Bread pudding: I've never had dark chocolate baked into a bread pudding and it's the best bread pudding I've ever had. Yum! Paired with vanilla ice cream. Extra yum! A wonderful experience and I know exactly what I'm coming back for!

I love a good steak. I dream about it. So when I saw an Instagram ad for Camphor advertising their…read moreThursday-only $65 prix fixe Steak Frites menu, I made the reservation before the video even ended. This high-end hipster restaurant is tucked down a graffiti-covered alleyway downtown, on one of the blocks that somehow doesn't have that many homeless people. The entrance is unassuming and plain, which I guess is cool now? Are we over flashy? I don't know. Walking inside, you feel... nothing. The employees are all dressed in white. The restaurant is all white. It's a little bland. Near the entrance are four white upholstered chairs where you wait while your table is prepared. These chairs have seen better days. The white fabric looks like wet dogs have been sleeping and wrestling on them for years. Dirty, stained, gray. I'll stand, thanks. The prix fixe menu includes a French baguette, French butter, a summer salad, and your steak frites: a hanger steak with tarragon parsley sauce. The highlight of the meal was the bread. Soft center, crispy crust, and the butter was topped with flaky rock salt. Simple and delicious. The salad was light and bright, and by that point I was excited for the steak. I always order my steak medium. Is that right? Is that wrong? I don't know. Blood freaks me out, so I like just a little pink. The steak arrived and the presentation was a 10/10. The fries were great. Hard to mess those up. The parsley tarragon sauce was interesting at first. A flavor profile I don't think I've had before. The first bite was solid. But then came the problem: the hanger steak was tough and blood red. I had to chew it so much that I was completely over the parsley tarragon sauce before I was even halfway through the meal. The sauce also became overpowering and salty fast. The restaurant is dark, which I'm convinced is intentional so you don't notice the "medium" steak you ordered is actually rare because they have a Michelin star and apparently they know better than you. The service was fine, and my server was delightful. The restaurant clearly knows that, because they automatically add a 20% gratuity to the bill. And even with the gratuity already included, the receipt still has suggested tip amounts printed on it just in case you're looking to hit that magical 40% tip threshold. All in all, it was fine. If I had been served this exact steak frites while sitting in first class on a Delta Air Lines flight from LAX to JFK, 10/10. But driving an hour through Los Angeles traffic and Gotham City conditions to be greeted by dirty furniture and an okay steak? 6/10.
