Nice place to have a lunch date. Great service. Clean and modern interior. Salmon tacos were yum and I like the guacamole and chips as well. Nice pretty looking drinks. However, a bit pricey $15/2 tacos lol.
For a while, Zona Rosa was one of my favorite restaurants, the food was delicious, it was a great deal, and the portions were big. Unfortunately inflation and the economy has changed the prices and food sizes, but at least it still tastes good. Some of my favorites here over the years have been the salmon tacos, Esquites, Enchiladas De Camarone and suizas, and the bacon guac. I used to not bat an eye and order whatever I wanted, but now I do have to think a little bit more so that the bill doesn't get too high. This location has a super cute front patio, it's bright, light, and airy, transporting you out of San Jose and right to a vacation mode. Even though it's on a pretty busy road, the traffic isn't usually distracting. Parking in the area can be hard, there's a couple paralele spots and then it's all neighborhood parking on the side of the street with the restaurant. Across the street can be a little bit easier.
Still one of our favorite restaurants, even though we don't eat out as much as we used to. We came here on Father's Day with a friend visiting from out of town. They have seating out front inside and in the back, but the place was pretty full. Nonetheless, we were seated quickly as we had a reservation. It is a good idea to call ahead and make one. The prices are high, but hopefully all their people are making a good living and the portions are enough for our appetites at least. I had the shrimp enchiladas, and my wife had the vegetarian tacos with a side order of scrambled eggs. There was nearly a mixup as the waiter thought we wanted to order an egg taco and that's considerably more expensive but we got it straightened out with the maitre D. We also shared a Paloma cocktail with which has a pretty color and delightful taste.
Zona Rosa has become a local rotation for me and my partner. We love this place for a casual no frills date night. The vibes are always great, with options for indoor and outdoor seating, heaters when it's cold. Everyone is so nice and welcoming, it feels like family. By far my favorite thing to get on the menu is the Baja beer battered fish tacos and a cucumber margarita. But we also have loved the tortilla soup. It's rare a place leaves a special place in my heart like this one, definitely a local gem here.
Writing a review mainly for their mushroom taco. Their blue corn tortillas were freshly pressed and grilled infront of us outside. They were amazing. The best tortilla I ever had in my life. The mushrooms were seasoned SO well. They were so addicting. I dream of those tacos. The chicken tacos were delicious as well on the same blue corn tortillas; however, I prefer the mushroom taco. I also tried their dirty rice -- it was very spicy. I couldn't each much of it. I normally love Spanish rice but this was not close at all. When I go back, I would get their mushroom tacos and their corn (esquires).
This place is very cute inside - a perfect mix between modern and family style. They seemed to have some fun menu items with a twist. Really good selection of tacos and love the blue tortillas. Great selection of margaritas! Service was great but kind of slow . Would go again !
Visited from out of town & enjoyed happy hour with friends? Lots of food choices. Drinks were flowing. Server attentive. It got busy after happy hour; Friday around 6 PM... ample outside seating. Inside seating as well! Street parking.
Zona Rosa has been one of my favorite restaurants to dine at. Our server was so attentive and she made sure to always check in on us. The atmosphere was lively and everyone was enjoying the food. I also love having the option to choose a variety of tacos from the platter selection. We finished dinner with the buñuelos, and they were absolutely phenomenal with Marianne's horchata ice cream.
I would give Zona Rosa a solid 3.5 out of 5. Food: I got the pollo enchilada and it was delicious. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't say it was so good that it warranted the price point. I also got the guac + chips and it suffered from too much lemon, and not enough salt or cilantro. Guac + chips should be a solid offering at a Mexican restaurant! Service: Service here was pretty good. Nice hospitality, however servers were a bit sparse and I had to flag someone down for my check. Ambiance: This restaurant is radiating with charm. Beautiful place to dine, whether indoors or outdoors.
Zona Rosa is a very cute place. I met my coworker here for dinner recently and I liked the empanadas de costillas. I also liked the tempura tacos as well as the special tacos we got with spare rib in them, but the meat in my taco had a very hard piece in it which I had to spit out. The dark chocolate chip banana crumb cake was fantastic though. It was a bit dry but I still liked the flavors. I would come back here

This is definitely not your typical Mexican restaurant; it offers a truly elevated, modern, and beautiful dining experience, but be advised it is on the expensive side ### Ambiance & Style The interior design is stunning and sets a sophisticated tone. It feels like a fusion of a casual, trendy bar and a stylish, modern-country California home. I loved the thoughtful wooden accents, the real leather on the bar stools, and the overall well-designed space. It feels warm and inviting. ### Beautifully Crafted Cocktails ($16 Each) The drinks were an absolute highlight and a true testament to the "trendy bar" atmosphere. My girlfriend had a perfectly crafted Lemon Drop, which was crisp and refreshing, topped with a dried citrus wheel. My drink, "The Perfect Margarita," was the vibrant red one, garnished perfectly with rosemary and cranberries. At $16 each, the cocktails are definitely priced for the quality and craftsmanship you receive. ### Appetizer: Fresh & Crispy ($13) We started with the Guacamole for $13. It was clearly freshly made, stacked high, and served with a generous portion of corn chips that tasted like they were fresh out of the fryer--warm, perfectly seasoned, and incredibly crispy. ### The 5-Taco Plate For our main course, we opted to split the 5-taco plate, primarily focusing on the seafood and premium options. The tacos were served on beautiful purple/blue corn tortillas. **The Highlights: * SCALLOP (tempura, asparagus, chipotle glaze). Absolutely bursting with flavor and texture. This was a definite favorite. * SHRIMP (tempura, cilantro aioli, pickled onions) Tender and full of great seasoning. * SALMÓN (blackened, shiitake + corn relish, cilantro aioli, bacon) A fantastic combination of savory, smoky, and earthy flavors. * The Other Tacos: * HANGER (steak, salsa cruda, pico de gallo): Very tender and perfectly cooked. * CARNITAS (pork, avocado, cabbage, tito's salsa): This was the only slight disappointment--it came across as a bit salty and dry compared to the rest of the plate. ### Final Thoughts Overall, the food quality, cocktail execution, and sophisticated ambiance at Zona Rosa are high-tier. However, the costs add up quickly: Guac and Chips, two cocktails, plus premium upcharged tacos, and tip made this a pricey - +$100 meal for two at lunch. Sigh, a sign of the times living in Silicon Valley now.... If you are looking for an upscale Mexican experience and don't mind the higher price point, this is a place to try. I will definitely come back to try other parts of their menu!
**Overall: a solid 4.5 stars** The neighborhood was a little 'sketch', so Zona Rosa was a standout restaurant when we saw it! It was adorable even on the outside with the outdoor heaters in the patios and pretty decor. The best part was once we entered. Wow. The place was adorbs! It didn't look like it belonged on The Alameda in San Jose, but rather a downtown of a fancy city, like Los Gatos or some place down South. The ambiance was *chef's kiss*, a perfect date place! Cocktails were fun, beautifully-concocted, and tasty. The 5 taco plate was a great way to try a bunch of different proteins and flavors. My favorites were the blackened salmon taco (amazing flavor profile!), steak (so tender!), and scallops (cooked to perfection!) Our least favorite was the pork taco (too dry and too salty). We also ordered guacamole and chips. The guac was beautifully presented and delicious. The thick corn tortilla chips were homemade, but had a slightly burnt flavor. The service was excellent. And there's plenty of street parking. Zona Rosa is a great choice if you're ever in San Jose and want to have a nice medium-to-upscale Mexican cuisine dining experience without going to a crowded or cliche area, like Santana Row.
Came here for lunch with a few coworkers and we left not feeling impressed. The food portions were smaller than we expected and it didn't really taste that good, not to mention the price for what you get isn't really worth it. It was very loud inside as I think they were making pico and using the multipurpose chopper. It got so loud at one point that we couldn't even talk with each other without having to practically scream. The decoration is beautiful though and feels like you're at a Mexican mom's fancy kitchen. Service was not good at all. We had to wait over 15 minutes to get our order taken and then we watched our food stand on the counter top for another 5 minutes. Once we were served we were never checked up on until the end when we had to flag them down to get the check. I don't think we'll be coming back.

Other than it being a little pricey - everything was some of the best we've experienced at a Mexican restaurant. It was so good, that we ended up shutting the place down - we were the last patrons to leave and they had already started the cleaning process. We love mezcal palomas (see picture), so that is what we started with. Given that I'm a bit of a mezcal paloma snob, I asked the waiter if the bartender knew what he was doing with making them. Boy did he ever know what he was doing, as these were probably the best mezcal palomas that we've had - and the presentation was great also! For appetizers, we all really like ceviche, so ordered the Crab Ceviche Tostada (sorry, no picture) and Guacamole. The chips (see picture) were so fresh, light and delicious. My belief is that chips are only the delivery system for dips and toppings - and they tasted great together with the guacamole and ceviche. For our main courses, I ordered the Chile Relano (see picture), my wife ordered the Enchilada de Camaron (see picture), our friends ordered the Pesca del Dia (see picture) and Ensalada de Cesar with Shrimp (see picture). Our friend recommended each of these dishes and all of them were delicious - I'd highly recommend each of them. It's a good restaurant. But super loud inside from music and simply just people talking. Maybe it's the acoustics. Carne asada y hongas dish was really good. Creamy and slightly spicy. Chips are the seriously crispy and harder type. Guac was pretty good but could use some zing, like paired with salsa. And the carnitas was very lean whereas I think the perfect type are a little fatty. But what bugged was the service. It took so long to take our order, get food, and pay the bill. I've eaten here a couple of times now and have had good experiences every time. My favorite meal time is their brunch because they have the best blue corn masa pancakes EVER. This time around I visited for dinner time. We made reservations on Yelp and unfortunately we're seated outdoors on a December night. When we asked to be seated indoors when a table cleared up our waiter didn't really seem to try to make it happen..he said that's a reserved table, not for walk in's, even though we explained that we had reservations as well.. if they didn't have outdoor space heaters we probably would have left. Once we got our drinks in we were able to look past it lol. Make sure to make reservations ahead of time because they always book out. It's a pretty small restaurant. Parking can be tough during busy times of the day since it's right on the alameda. You may have to walk a couple blocks. We started with their cosmopolitan, hibiscus margarita, a glass of sav blanc and their chips and salsa. My friends loved their cocktails! The chips and salsa never disappoint. I love love love their home made chips. And the orange salsa is to die for. They also don't skimp out on the chips, which we appreciated :). The food was alright this time around. I usually have their appetizer quesadilla (which is 5/5 def recommend) but this time I ordered their veggie enchiladas. They are made with green sauce and are filled with yams. Their tortillas are SO GOOD. They make their own blue corn tortillas and they are just so heavenly. The sauce was a little too acidic for me and didn't really have much flavor. They also did not have much filling so for $18 and no side, I don't think I will be ordering them again. My friend ordered their chicken enchiladas and also had a similar review. The red sauce was not very flavorful, needed a little more of a kick of spice or something. But again loved their tortillas! My other friend ordered the chimichurri tacos and enjoyed them. She said they're definitely not as authentic and a more of a modern and healthy take on tacos but overall satisfying. This restaurant is a little more on the expensive end and the portions are small. But overall, I think it's worth trying. It's a nice place to have a good drink with friends or family. They also have a happy hour! read more
Zona Rosa is a really good spot. Whether you're coming for a date night, family time, or getting food with your friends. The location on the alameda is small so if the outdoor patio is closed just be prepared to wait a bit if it's full. I always get the chips and guac. The guac is amazing the strips of bacon and pistachio nuts in it is a interesting twist that just works! The Salmon tacos are my favorite salmon tacos in San Jose, and my favorite tacos on the menu. The salmon fillets are big. Seasoned and cooked to perfection. The corn and mushroom compliments it so well. The dessert is amazing and l one of my favorite desserts ever. I always have to get if I stop by here. The bunuelos just pairs so perfectly with the horchata ice cream. The pumpkin fritters are so soft inside and crunchy on the side. Each bite with the ice cream is a bite of creamy delicious goodness that's unmatched. read more
The second time coming here from the first impression where the food, service, and ambiance were memorable. Unfortunately, this visit was not the same. Portion: served in soup bowls and not plates. I got served with what seemed for a child's bowl where I was left hungry still. My boyfriend was also served with a bowl with 2 enchiladas de Pollo...was odd. Coffee cups were reduced from their original mugs, and to request for another cup to even fulfill my caffeine needs, but after waiting for their new batch being brewed, we finished our meals and canceled it ans left. read more

The food here was legit AMAZING. The salmon in my tacos was cooked PERFECTLY. The tortilla soup.... Amazing! We also had this delicious guacamole with some sour of chili oil on it. The staff was very friendly and we came on a weekday morning so we basically had the whole place to ourselves. read more
What a lovely surprise! I always walk in a little skeptical to Mexican restaurants, but the tacos were so flavorful and the tortillas were amazing. I highly recommend the alambre tacos. The drinks were soooo good! I will definitely be back so I can try more. I only got to try the hibiscus margarita and the cucumber basil margarita, but they were so good! I highly recommend this spot for a cute date night. I don't see it being family or kid friendly since it is quite small, and they don't provide high chairs, so keep that in mind. read more

Zona Rosa has a homey and aesthetic ambiance. From beautiful blankets draped on their seats to the rustic decor, every table is a perfect experience. Authentic dishes are plated with a modern twist, but taste just as good. Service is great, staff is very accommodating and gives you the rundown of the menu to make decisions easier :) Recommend the taquitos dorados, ZR nachos, and enchiladas de pollo for main. The Francisco Libre & Hibiscus Margarita are a must for drinks! read more

+ found this spot randomly on Yelp and just from a photo of the bar, I knew this would be a cute spot and I wasn't wrong. Ambiance is amazing, they have blankets on the chairs, neon sign in the back, heaters outside and just a warm vibe + really great tacos, you can't mix and match but we shared few options so def come with a group if you can - chips fell flat for me, was a little stale tasting Overall, super cute upscale Mexican spot! Would definitely recommend/come back to try other things! read more

Such an intimate and cute restaurant! Great for date night or a dinner with the girls. I was actually really impressed with the food. Everything was delicious. Portions were generous and good flavor. Cocktails were also delicious. We came as a group of 3 and I made reservations ahead of time. It was very busy for a Thursday evening. You know inflation is the real deal when you get charged $15 for guacamole and chips and you realize, "damn! Is that just a SMASHED avocado sitting in this tiny bowl?!?!!" Why. YES. Yes it is. Welcome to the edition of you are effed and there's really nothing you can do about it. Except write a Yelp review. Apparently, Zona Rosa can't be bothered to add chopped tomatoes, onions, a smidgen of jalapeño or even some other seasoning on their guac? SKIP THIS. You are not that desperate for something to keep your hands busy while your entrees arrive. I took my nanny out for her birthday lunch and she chose Zona Rosa. I looked at the menu beforehand and salivated over the cocktails: nice curated tequila and mezcal cocktails with a sangria choice for those who don't want margaritas. Solid, delicious drinks that you really can't go wrong with what you have. I loved my Hot & Smoky mezcal based margarita. The ceviche tostada was loaded with yummy chopped crab and shrimp. And the tacos were filled with generous, soft Hangar steak meat with chimichurri sauce on it. There's a SLIVER of potato on it as a garnish. Two tacos for $15. I've been favoring upscale Mexican food as of late when I dine out, but Zona Rosa just taught me that not all upscale Mexican places are created equal. Such a cute restaurant! I came by for dinner on a Friday evening and there was no wait for outdoor dining without a reservation. Service was super quick too. I had the chicken enchiladas which were pretty decent. I think a little more salt and a spicy kick would have elevated this dish. Also wish it would come with beans and rice considering the higher price point (compared to other similar restaurants). $18 for the 2 enchiladas and $15 for the 2 steak tacos. Nice place for a quick dinner and with nice ambience. I recommend the buneolos for dessert as well! read more
My girlfriends and I had a lovely dinner here on a Thursday night. They had a private party inside so we were seated outside which was fine because of all the heater lamps. We each got one of their winter cocktails and shared chips and guac, the scallop tacos, chimichurri steak tacos, and the chicken enchilada. The scallop tacos were really unique and a nice alternative to your normal fried fish taco. I really liked the chimichurri tacos, especially because they put potatoes on it. I might pass on the enchilada next time; the chicken enchiladas are supposed to be covered in mole sauce but it just tasted like regular enchilada sauce. Overall service was great, I'd highly recommend this spot for a cute date night if you're out in DTSJ. read more

This small restaurant is serving up flavorful dishes and hospitality in a simple decor setting. The Carne Asada Y Hongos had a good amount of meat with a few greens. The sauce was creamy and added a nice textural balance to the dish. I'd recommend adding a side of rice to dish. The price really soaked yo the flavor and added a carb factor that enhanced the experience. Our waiter checked up on us multiple times to ensure our needs were met. read more

Stepping into zona rosa restaurant feels like entering a lively southern Mexican town, bustling with energy. The indoor dining area was the place to be but without a reservation we were happily seated at the outdoor patio with heaters . It's a cute walk through the kitchen to get there. The patio looks great for larger parties, We came for the perfect margarita and the cocktails served were delicious. What truly sets this place apart is its commitment to freshness. The chips and salsas brought to the table crackle with crispness, the 3 salsas were unique and over powered with spice. The enchiladas were top notch andthe tortillas are evidently made in-house. The Chile relleno is a standout, its flavors clearly highlighting the use of fresh and new tastes like butternut squash and chorizo rice to a familiar dish. This emphasis on freshness and authenticity is a theme running through their entire menu. Parking is always going to be a challenge in Willow Glen and the prices are more than your average Mexican restaurant but this place is anything but average. Our attentive waiter was considerate and always appeared at the right times.did not hurry us, A pro tip for future visitors: have a reservation to eat indoors it's a beautiful space and great for a date.Ww loved our experience and look forward to trying brunch on our next visit. read more

3-3.5 stars for this visit, but not quite 4 stars so rounding down. It was about a 20 minute wait for my order placed at 4pm on a Friday. My order was just about ready when I arrived, and they weren't busy yet around 4:30pm. I tried the Carne Asada y Hongos (Skirt Steak, Shiitake Mushrooms, Green Beans, Chipotle Crema, House Made Tortillas, $29, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=CfFA0yPbiNIKGGRo91LR1g&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg). The skirt steak was tender and cooked very well (medium rare to medium), and I loved their chipotle cream sauce; however, everything was underseasoned and on the bland side. Also, the homemade tortillas were a little too thick for my preference, and this dish was pricey for the portion. The restaurant itself seemed like a cute place to dine, and they had indoor and outdoor seating. I would come back and check out their happy hour specials. Parking will be the most difficult part about dining here, since street parking spots are limited. read more
Calling all taco lovers! My husband and I stopped by last Friday for our weekly date night. Street parking was slightly challenging, but we made it in time for our reservation and were seated on their outdoor patio. Food/Drinks: The fried scallop tacos were the star of the night; the pollo al pastor tacos were a close second. They were well balanced with the acidity of the pickled onions and sweetness of the pineapple salsa. If the combination of chorizo, carne asada, and bacon sounds appealing to you, try the alambre tacos. Personally, I found them too salty and would pass next time. The chips and salsas had a nice spice to them, but unfortunately they aren't complimentary. As for cocktails, try the spicy mezcal margarita! Service: Very friendly and attentive. We brought along our foster pup (who is still getting used to being out in public), and they brought him water and were very understanding about all the barking :) Bookmark Zona Rosa and go visit! read more

Such a great experience at Zona Rosa. The food was fantastic. Classic dishes with bold flavors. Our group got a number of appetizers and our favorite was probably the nachos and taquitos. Elote was also worth a mention. I got a very hefty bowl of Asada y Hongos. I do wish there was a base with the bowl (like leafy greens or rice) because it was a bit difficult to eat with just the tortillas but all in all it was delicious. Definitely go back for the tacos, the salmon was seared just right. Our server was kind and attentive, ambiance is beautiful,l. Parking is always a bit tricky on the alameda but it's not horrible. Definitely worth a 2nd round. read more

Been here several times and 3 out of 5 times service is good. You will definitely be waiting a while for a drink and your food if it's even remotely busy. Food is really good, but watch out for the misleading "taco bar platter" on the top of the menu (see attached photo). It says "choose 5 tacos $7." I'll have you know that when the check came it definitely wasn't $7. Try 5 x $7 = $35. They need to add the word "each" to the menu since it's very misleading and borderline fraud! Icing on the cake was our server saying that we were the first people who had ever misread it. I know in most cases, if it's too good to be true then it usually is, but this typo is a bit much. I'll probably be back at some point, but I'll be skipping the taco "platter." read more

Zona Rosa is a cute little spot that's been popping up on my Yelp search lately so I was excited to try it! The first time I came here was on a Friday but the wait was about an 1 hour wait since their dining area is pretty small in and outdoors so I ended up booking a reservation for the next week instead. CRAB CEVICHE(4/5): The portion of this was kinda small but this was still good! There was a lot more veggies than there was crab but it was really refreshing and I liked all the toppings it came with, I'd order it again. SALMON TACO(5/5): I love the candied bacon this comes with, it definitely was the reason that this one was my favorite. I love that it comes with corn and guac as well, it was super flavorful and the salmon was yummy. SCALLOP TACO(5/5): This is the main reason why we came here, breaded scallop tacos sound delicious and it did not disappoint! My friend loved the pickled cucumber it comes with, I agree that it was a really nice touch to the scallops. ALAMBRE(4/5): This one comes with chorizo and steak and my friend and I thought this one was very flavorful as well. It's a bit more plain in terms of toppings as it comes with no veggies, but nonetheless I still enjoyed this. HANGAR(3.5/5): If I had known this was the same steak that comes in the Alambre then I probably wouldn't have ordered this in addition to the Alambre. It's good, but it didn't impress me as much as the other tacos. My friend and I ended up taking 3 tacos to-go as we were full after sharing the ceviche and eating 2-3 tacos each. We definitely could've gotten away with ordering only 1 appetizer and 3 taco plates as 4 was too much for the two of us. The drinks here are pretty but they aren't my favorite, I've had better. The bill was a bit pricey but at least the taco portions were a lot bigger than we anticipated. Safe to say I'd definitely return for their seafood tacos! read more
I came to Zona Rosa for dinner on a Tuesday, after my friend found it on Yelp. We had made a reservation, but there was also plenty of open seating, so we probably would've been fine as walk-ins. After requesting an outdoor table, the hostess lead us through the restaurant (and pretty much through the kitchen), to their back door. Outside, there was a tent/patio with plenty of outdoor seating, in addition to the few outdoor tables they have at the front. For drinks, I ordered a glass of Sangria (delicious and strong) and my friend got the Perfect Margarita, which she liked a lot. We also ordered Guacamole & Chips - highly recommend, the Guacamole tasted so fresh and had a little spice to it. For dinner, I got the Pollo Tacos and my friend chose the Hanger Tacos. The Pollo Tacos were fantastic - they come with 2 per order, but were surprisingly filling, and all the flavors were great. The Hanger Tacos looked good too, but some of the steak was very chewy, to the point of being difficult to eat. We wanted to try the Bunuelos for dessert, but unfortunately they were sold out. Is it pet friendly?
Yes. They let pets hang out with their owners at the outside patio tables. However, they won't let them inside the resto proper.
Are bloody Mary's available at brunch?
Yes. The drinks they create are amazing hibiscus, cilantro just tasty and refreshing
Do they use any animal products in their beans and rice?
Is the parking lot that's gated (black gate) behind the restaurant available for customer parking? Thanks!
No, unfortunately that is all reserved for other businesses
Do they only take reservations or can easily walk in?
They take walk-ins but your best bet is to make a reservation.
Do they have lengua tacos?
Will they now be open for outdoor seating this week?
Yes as of august, there is outdoor seating
Is this place big enough to sit a big party of about 30?
Unfortunately I do not think so. The inside is rather small and even with 20 people in the space it already feels insanely crammed.
Is this owned by the same people as the one in SF?
No. A local San Jose family owns this one.
