I decided to try Zood based on the clear and easy to read menu options, the slide-show display showcasing various dishes, and the well-balanced cost compared to the other restaurants in the court. I had the chicken plate with rice, pita bread, two sides and two dressings. It was pretty filling and very tasty The lady serving was super friendly, helpful and engaging. We accidentally and fortuitously stumbled upon Zood one happy day! I made a bee line for it as soon as I saw it. When I say it is the best food I have ever tasted - it reminds me of right back home in Iran, like my mom's cooking after a long rainy day. We met Mandanna, the owner - the kindest woman and the best cook ever. Not to mention how cute and adorable it is. The rice melted in my mouth and the chicken was so nicely seasoned. BUT DO NOT, DO NOT even get me STARTED on their ice cream. We tried their baklava and cherry ice cream -they were better than any ice cream I've had. We were offered a sample of felafel as we walked by. Who can say no to that, right? So we tried it and decided it was so yummy that we would buy a few bites to nosh on. The hummus was one of the best that I've tried and the portion was quite generous. The bread was outstanding too and quite delicious on its own as was the order of felafel and dipping sauce. Everything was so fresh - it was just wonderful! I never made it to the soft serve ice cream for dessert, but I will next time for sure. I got the mezze plate. The falafels were perfectly fried and soft inside. Usually, I hate when falafels come out and are dry and overfried--these are perfectly cooked falafels. The spreads that accompanied the falafel and bread were smooth. Compared to what you by in the grocery store, the spreads have real flavor and are not overwhelming. The hummus was addictive. We had a good experience. The gentleman who took our order took his time to explain the dish varieties. We got a few samples to test. We loved the saffron ice cream. Honestly the felafels taste like stuffing from a Thanksgiving dinner. Certain herbs but home made. He said that everything is made fresh which is a big deal. So not packaged pre made stuff. This is one of my favorite eateries in Orange County! I'm Persian, and their chicken and rice plate is just a delicious, homey, comforting dish that I crave every week. I like to get their salad shirazi as one of my sides to mix with the rice and chicken plus their creamy hummus. Portions are very generous and they use high quality ingredients. My husband picked up dinner from zood tonight. While he waited for the food to be prepared, he chatted with the owner and said she was warm and welcoming. I had the lentil and roasted carrots salad with falafel. It was vibrant and flavorful and the tahini sauce was very good with it. My husband had the chicken plate and enjoyed it a lot. For our daughter we got the chicken sandwich, which she liked but complained about being spicy so heads up for those with kiddos- ask to leave the pepper off lol. Overall a really nice meal! Been to Zood 3 or 4 times and loved it the first time but afterward the food was pretty hit-or-miss. Meat portions seem like they keep getting smaller and sometimes pretty dry and stale. Despite the fact that I love the hummus, I won't be back after the appalling customer service I received a few days ago. I went with my baby and toddler, and the person taking my order was generally nice at first but a little unprofessional (scrolling on his phone while taking my order and kind of rushing me when trying to choose sides). Bad service didn't really start until the end, when I went back after our meal to order a side of falafel. When I had put in my order they had offered me a sample of some super fresh, light, crispy, perfectly-fried and perfectly-seasoned falafel. The falafel I received after I ordered was super over-fried, almost blackened and really unpleasant to eat because of how hard and oily it was. The inside tasted completely unsalted and unseasoned, like maybe it hadn't been mixed well and we ended up with the unseasoned parts or something. I was annoyed but politely went up to inform them and ask for it to be redone. A woman who I think is the owner asked me what I needed and immediately became very defensive and upset that I would dare to claim there was something wrong with her falafel. As I tried to explain and speak with her, bizarrely, the man who was supposed to be helping other customers kept interrupting me and rudely interjecting himself into the conversation, telling me everything I was saying about the falafel being way darker, oilier, and staler than the sample was absolutely impossible because they do things the same way every time. He became so rude and unprofessional that the owner asked him to stop and focus on the customer he was helping. She then insisted that what I was saying was impossible even though I was literally looking at the samples, which were light-medium brown while mine were almost black, but she begrudgingly agreed to remake them. I went back to our table across the food hall, with 2 fussy young kids. After a few minutes I noticed that my baby was showing sleepy signs and over her nap time, and I was feeling really uncomfortable about the treatment I had received and didn't really even want anything to be remade for me after such an odd and rude interaction, so I went back and just said to the man "You know, sorry I might have to leave soon with my kids for baby's nap so its okay, you can just tell her nevermind on the falafel remake," She came out and when I repeated what I said calmly and politely, she became really upset and visibly flustered and angry, almost yelling at me that "You asked me to remake them!" I was almost in shock at the unprofessional behavior and tried to explain that my baby was over her nap and she might start screaming anytime now ...she became more flustered and rudely points at my baby girl saying "yeah well she's not screaming now!" At that point I was done and said "You know what, I appreciate it but no, I'm done," and turned to walk away only for her to yell "No you don't appreciate it, you don't!" I was literally almost in tears at that point and never in my life was I treated that way at a restaurant. Not sure if they were having an off day but if that is how they take feedback about their food, harassing a young mom with a baby and toddler then I would not support this business. Supposedly "Zood is more than just a restaurant. It's a reflection of Mandana and Patrick's shared values and commitment to creating a welcoming space where guests feel like family, greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality." Yikes, if that is how you treat family feel bad for your family. read more
