I wanted to take my friends out to a bakery/cafe to hang out for a bit, and Zov's was suggested. Originally I was planning to go to the Irvine location, since I knew the Newport location had no bakery. Apparently, the Irvine location also does not, so we were directed to this Tustin location, the only one of the 3 Zov's locations to have a proper bakery display. Once we made our way across Southern California and found this location, we saw a nice display with delicious looking desserts. We settled on a Plum Almond Tart, Coconut Cheesecake with Passion Fruit Glaze, and the famous Chocolate Bomb with Creme Brulee Filling. We also ordered an Espresso, Cappuccino, and a Coffee. The desserts were excellent, with the Chocolate Bomb easy the favorite. The Coconut Cheesecake was also a great treat, with good texture and an fantastic glaze of Passion Fruit that completed the experience. The Plum Almond Tart was perhaps the weakest of the group, but it was by no means terrible...it was simply more tart than sweet. The drinks were also generally good, but not amazing...the Espresso was average, while the Coffee and Cappuccino were good. The meal was priced a little high, but the staff was at least courteous enough to not rush us after we had finished our meal so we could chat. In all, a generally good experience that we may check out again...going there for desserts is highly recommended. read more

3-1/2 stars. I'm confused between the Bistro and Cafe & Bakery (same address), but I'm assuming that the Cafe & Bakery is the one that serves breakfast. Hubby and I came here on a Friday around 8:45am. Although it was cloudy, the temperature was nice and cool so we sat in the patio area instead of inside. After our pleasantly attentive server came and took our order, more people started to come in and pretty much filled up the patio area. I ordered the combination breakfast, which came with 2 buttermilk pancakes, 2 eggs (over medium for me), a chicken sausage, and a hash brown cake ($12.95). Hubby ordered the gravlox & scramble sandwich ($12.95). The chicken sausage was a bit dry and the egg whites on my over medium eggs were too fried for my taste, but the hash brown cake was yuhhh-meee :9 My hubby liked his gravlox sammie, especially the freshly baked bun, and the hash brown cake as well. Before we left, we bought some of their desserts to take home. We got the white chocolate peanut butter mousse tart, the chocolate bomb, and the berry bread pudding (I didn't take any pictures of them because I saw that there were plenty posted already). The popular ones, more or less. I just didn't realize how much they were because I didn't see any pricing on the tags, and was surprised that the total for these 3 desserts came out to just under $24! We ordered Flat Bread starters and ended up sharing with the table next to us because we were worried that there would be too much food. The reviews that said the serving sizes were not large enough (I'm sorry to say, need to reassess and get their eyes checked) The serving sizes were more than plenty to have left overs for us! We ordered the Morocco Chicken Bowl and the North African Lamb Stew. Wow, they complimented each other really well. The chicken was mild and perfectly balanced in the seasoning, this to a more savory counterpoint of Lamb Stew. Perhaps my only complaint was that they could have gone a little lighter on the salt for the stew, but it would really have to push that complaint... Desserts... all I can say is you gotta come back, there are too many delicious looking items. I splurged and got 4 items, but took them to go to enjoy later with the family... When we first pulled up, early on a Sunday afternoon, we were surprised that the bistro was closed. Just about to go elsewhere, we noticed a little sign that the bakery, on the opposite side of the building, was open. The other side, the EAST facing side was open! A sweet young man immediately welcomed us & offered to seat us wherever we wanted. They had a breakfast, lunch, and specials menu. It all looked delicious. Friend of mine convinced me to go there this afternoon to pick up some treats for later this evening. Spent quite a bit, just about $20 on five items and unfortunately it was somewhat disappointing. I had a Jumbles cookie which wasn't bad, I haven't had the key lime tart yet, but tried the rugala a few minutes ago. Sadly it was raw in the middle. Went for lunch today and sadly I was extremely disappointed. We sat outside and apparently due to the recent rain the chair pads soaked up a lot of the rain. My pants, the back of my shirt and my outer sweater was absolutely soaked. My sweater was cashmere so I dropped it off at the cleaners on the way home. I told the server and he laughed and said "oh yeah, probably from the rain". Meanwhile I'm miserable and had a 30 minute drive home. Nobody bothered to move the chair so the next guest was in for a surprise as well. I'm disappointed in the indifference regarding the way the issue was handled and I will think twice about returning there. read more

The food here is great and as fresh as it gets. It's as close to home style cooking as you can get in Orange County. The Mediterranean / Middle Eastern flavors are exciting and flavorful. My favorite meal is the salmon mujadderah salad. The salmon is always cooked perfectly. The lentil soup is also a great starter. In terms of pricing, it's not the cheapest in OC but you definitely get what you pay for. Invest in what you put inside your body folks :) Lastly, they have a bakery that is top notch. If you want to impress someone, take them pastries from Zovs! They also have a couple of gluten free options that taste phenomenal. read more

OMG my life is ruined!! I was OBSESSED with the Flourless Chocolate Cake. I am a chocolate dessert connoisseur and I dare to say that this dessert was sheer perfection. It was the perfect balance of sweet and butter. It was rich but also light thanks to the thin layers of mousse. I called the bakery today to ask them to hold some for me and they told me that they changed the cake because the bakers are gone and the bakery is under new management. Now instead of having that thin layer of rich buttery ganache, it's topped with buttercream. Buttercream!! How very white trash, let's just slather it in cheap sugary frosting. We stopped by for just desserts and all of them look beautiful and delicious. As such, we were totally gluttons and ordered four desserts for three people. They're fairly hefty so we ended up saving half of a couple of the desserts for the next day. Red Velvet: This was okay and moist. That being said, it wasn't the best red velvet I've had so since there are so many other desserts to choose from, I wouldn't necessarily order this one again. Chocolate bombe: This was really unique and not overly sweet. The creme brulee is very light and airy. It's great especially if you are ordering something else because this isn't too rich or cloyingly sweet. Flourless chocolate cake: The inside is very rich and moist and definitely perfect for any chocolate lover. This comes with a chocolate shell, which I think might be chocolate overkill. Indeed, none of us really ate the shell even though we scraped out all of the chocolate cake inside. Key lime pie: The meringue is nicely toasted on top and definitely fluffy and airy. The pie part is definitely tart and tangy but still sweet. The pie shell is probably my favorite feature with an interesting crispy sugary texture. The tags didn't have price tags on them, I'm pretty sure, because we probably wouldn't have ordered this many had we known how much these are. I'm not sure what the exact prices are but all four desserts came out to about $32. To be fair, I would pay that much at a fancy sit-down restaurant and these desserts were definitely fancy restaurant quality, both in appearance and it taste. Given the price tag, I would go for the chocolate bombe since that was definitely a unique creation and pass on the more run-of-the-mill items like the red velvet. Does anyone else hear that? Is that the sound of angels I hear? Whoever you are - stop. I'm enjoying my desserts! I know you're heard of manna from heaven - but what I had today, surpassed that! Wow. Let me compose myself for a second, or all you'll read are my oohhhs, ahhsss, and mmmmsssss. Ok, God must have entered Zov's body and baked these precious jewels himself. It's THAT good. I had a chocolate chip cookie (a good size, but slightly on the thin side), a rugulah, and a "jumble" cookie (oatmeal, golden raisins, walnuts, pecans, and chocolate chips.) Every bite was better than the previous. The chocolate chip cookie was PACKED with chocolate (just like I love em.) The dough is soft and moist - but doesn't crumble or fall apart when you bite into it. There's a slight taste of butter - but nowhere near overwhelming. Simply irresistible. The rugulah was something else. Like a puffed piece of pleasure. This rugulah was slightly more doughy than they rugalah I'm used to - so it lessened the "sweet" factor. If you don't like overly sweet desserts, this is a great choice for you! Personally, not my favorite (simply because it lacked the super sweet factor,) but my husband LOVED it. (I saved him a teeny time piece.) After the bite he had - he immediately became furious because I didn't bring more! And oh....the "jumble" cookie. I've recently started loving oatmeal raisin cookies - but this one was different, unique, and like crack. With every bite I craved more - until utter sadness fell upon me. I finished it. It's so good that it makes you close your eyes when you bite into it. This jumble cookie has the perfect combination of flavors. Sweet/tart of the golden raisin, wholesomeness of the oatmeal, comfort of the chocolate chip, the creaminess of the walnuts, the joy of the pecans, and the down home comfort of the sweet dough. Perfection in a cookie. (This cookie itself rivals ALL my favorite cookies!) My Zov's experience has definitely been bittersweet. I'm content with finding my "happy place" in Zov's bakery - but miserable now that I'm home and I have none left. Maybe this is the reaction that Zov intended. Damn him! Come to think of it, I think Zov sold his soul to the devil for these recipes. If you did, thank you. Without having done so, I wouldn't have had such pleasure. But....as with ALL things, what goes around comes around. Zov sold his soul....we pay the price. HOLY CANOLI it's expensive in this joint! I know I ranted and RAVED about the amazing desserts. But for two cookies and a rugulah, I spent $8.14! Seriously! That could've bought me 8 McDoubles! My God! I realize now that those weren't angels I heard earlier. It was really the whisper of Zov's little devils coaxing me to give them all my cash- and in return they'll give me pure indulgence.....and a couple inches on my butt and thighs! I devoured their Café Burger which is composed of a sirloin burger grilled to order with melted brie, green leaf lettuce, tomato and herb aïoli on soft challah bread. It was amazing. The burger was juicy and unctuous, It was served with shoestring fries which were also delicious. Not as tasty as Nordstrom Bistro Café in Irvine Spectrum, but good nonetheless. For dessert I ordered their red velvet cupcake and it was rather awful. The cake is crumbly rather than moist and spongy. read more

Quite honestly the lowest review I've ever given. 1. everyone kept staring at us like we were some unclassified objects. Sure my friends and I were the youngest looking people their but that doesn't mean we need to get stared down. 2. Pricing is wayyyy to high for extremely salty food. I'm not a penny pincher at all when it's good tasting food. I drive to little Tokyo just for sushi and I'm willing to spend 70 bucks easy because it's worth it. But 15 dollars on over salted smoked salmon. It literally felt like I was biting on bread and a bed of salt.
