Let me say that my girlfriend and I have been coming here for the last few years and we love it! We had to slow down on eating out due to COVID for a while. Out of curiosity I looked at the reviews and everybody needs to ignore the bad reviews, they are awesome and amazing people here! It is a family run business and the owners and their kids always make it an enjoyable experience for us! The owners are very accommodating and if you have questions or concerns, just ask and don't be a jerk hiding behind your keyboards after the fact. The ramen, spicy shrimp, is amazing!! Their sushi is fresh and delicious and you cannot get enough! Not only is it fresh and delicious but the presentation is beautiful! This strictly is a take out review. They do offer dining which seems more their forte. I ordered 2 hwedup baps which is like bibim bap except with sashimi. The portions of fish were small for the price at $16 which is comparable to Hawaii prices where I live. The flavor was pretty good with the gochujang sauce I must say. I think the thing that can be changed is that it should come in a styrofoam bowl because the idea is to mix everything. Granted if you were going home to eat it you would have bowls but we were not eating it at home rather a hospital to be exact. The person ringing up was nice & said they serve it in bowls if you dined in. I would like the owner to try to eat this the way it was packed in a flat container and see how it is. Sometimes owners need to try the end product not only taste but the delivery to see what the customer is experiencing. I am open to try Dozo again but to eat there. read more

I've never been here before but was just working in the area today, wanted something quick and light for a really late lunch before heading home for dinner with family. Order pick up for shrimp and cucumber roll and sweet potato roll. Like I said, simple but absolutely delicious. Incredibly fresh tasting ingredients And attractive presentation. Whaat I haven't reviewed this restaurant yet? Anyways, just had another amazing omakase tonight. No doubt, best quality sushi in South Jersey! Yes even better than Sagami. There is a lot of thought and care that goes into the ingredients here. Only the freshest! It's hard to pick out my favorites because there are so many :P but I love the live uni, the scottish sea trout, yellowtail belly, fatty tuna, salmon roe, sashimi salad, and on and on. Cooked food is just as great, try the beef negimaki and noodle soup. Where do I begin..... The staff is amazing for such an unassuming place I'm sure many people have drove by plenty of times, but that is a crime. Please stop and treat yourself. We came early on a Saturday and had the place (kinda) to ourselves. The owner of head chef came out and gave us honest choices and amazing service. We went all out and ordered alot. It's all worth the price and ambiance. The food and flavors! Wow! The spice, 0-5 (I had 5 on the side) it was so good I sipped the broth when I was done. The food is so fresh it melts in your mouth. This place is very warm and welcoming as soon as you walk through the door. The owner Jay really seems to care about his establishment. The place is pretty small, but it's your typical hole in the wall. My hubby said the sushi was pretty good, it is picturesque. I had the chicken terriyaki, and it wasn't the best it was a bit on the dry side. I ate all of it but wouldn't order it again. I would probably come here and try something else, but their are many other places in the area to try. They get three stars for the awesome service, not so much the food though for me. Pretty good sushi, fast and fresh. Got take out for lunch. 2 roll special for $9. The Philly Roll was great I really loved it. It had cucumber, cream cheese and smoke salmon. You could tell it was fresh. I also had the Ebi Maki which was good but not great. The shrimp tails were left on which is a pet peeve of mine. And the cucumber is big chunk not cut small so it is interesting to eat. The ginger salad is pretty good. Dressing has a spice to it. We love love love this spot. It's small but the food is delicious and the service is always wonderful. We eat here at least twice a month. Their raw fish is ALWAYS fresh and sizable! After we discovered this spot, we only eat sushi and sashimi from here. Recently we ordered pickup and was accidentally over charged. The person rang up the wrong slip. My bf picked it up and he wasn't even aware. I received a call from the owner? and he apologized and refunded the amount and charged us properly. If they didn't call, we would've never known! I say all that to say this is an honest business and this alone speaks volumes on the kind of people running this place. I have never had a subpar experience here. We eat at a lot of the sushi restaurants in the area and Dozo rises above. The specialty tools were carefully hand crafted and brought out in courses. The dragon roll looks like a dragon. Amazing. The chef was really friendly. None of this you will gather from looking from the outside in. It's a small store front in a strip mall. Don't let that fool you at all. If I had to describe Zushi Dozo in one word it would be this: FRESH! Seriously the best thing about this place is how incredibly fresh and thus delicious all of their sushi is! It kind of ruined me for other sushi places because after tasting how good fresh ingredients are, it makes it hard to go anywhere else. Atmosphere: This is a small place, but they've put their heart into it. It's quaint and clean and beautiful in its simplicity, with a few pieces of very nice artwork about. It's intimate and comfortable with a small sushi bar. Service: Very friendly, genuine people. Service is efficient and professional. Food: THE BEST! I've had a lot of sushi at a LOT of different sushi places and seriously none compare to Zushi Dozo. Their menu isn't huge because they're a small place - but they make up for it by having the freshest ingredients and thus the best tasting sushi I have found anywhere. From the spicy tuna to avocado mango rolls, all of it is truly fantastic. In addition their soups, salads and other menu items are equally as good. If you love sushi I really can't recommend this place enough. It's a must try. I originally found Zushi Dozo when they were inside a kimchi place next to my house, but I was happy to follow them to their new location because they are the best in the area. No contest. Everything we ordered was delicious. You can really tell how much pride they take in the level of freshness of their ingredients. We started with the sweet and spicy chicken wings. The sauce on the wings has the perfect kick to them, but isn't too spicy for those who don't like much spice. We also ordered two rolls: the Hi There and the Philly roll. The Hi There is their most popular but the Philly is a newer addition to their menu and I think will be the soon-to-be favorite. They were both great, but the crunch of the tempura asparagus and creaminess and smokiness of the cream cheese (Yes, smokiness. The cream cheese was charred. So good) really put it over the top. They both come with mango and the freshest, most perfectly ripe avocado slices on top. I will say, though, that these two rolls are very similar so it would have been better to pick only one of these and then add a different roll for more variety in flavor. One downfall to this place, and it's really more me being picky, is that the lights are so bright in the small restaurant that it doesn't feel cozy at all and the lights almost give you a headache. Also, the rolls tasted great, but every piece we'd pick up with our chopsticks would fall apart so we'd have to eat each piece in sections. My new favorite sushi place in South Jersey! We've come twice now and both times were very impressed with the food. The atmosphere is relaxed and maybe business-casual, with a pleasantly-decorated interior and convenient location on Route 70. The first time we came here, service was a little bit slow but to be fair it was still fairly new and there were a lot of customers. This time, service was much faster, which was pleasing. To start off, we had the carpaccio, the tebasaki karrage, and the negi maki. Of the three, I enjoyed the negi maki best, and it was really very excellently prepared, with the meat moist and tender. The other two were also good. For the entree I split the Zushi Dozo Sampler and the Z roll with my sister. It was a good amount of food for us both, just enough. The Z roll was interesting, and also well-prepared, though a little too wet and tart for my preference. Others may like it though. The sampler was, basically, a lot of fish. And it was excellent fish. The salmon blew me away- very smooth and fatty, and flavorful without soy sauce. The tuna was also good, though perhaps a tad stringy. Overall, it was a delicious meal, and I'd eat it again in a heartbeat. Since my sister and I were both celebrating our birthdays, they brought out free mochi ice cream for us both at the end! It was a sweet touch and so yummy :). Overall- excellent food, good service, nice atmosphere, and well worth the price. read more

My husband and I came for dinner on a Sunday night, at about 6pm. It's clearly a family operated restaurant, everyone was involved with great results, the service was on point. We ordered Shrimp Shumai, wings and the Ocean Breeze Salad. Everything was delish!!!! I didn't quite know what to expect from the salad but all the flavors worked PERFECTLY! For our entrees, my husband ordered Pork Katsu (not my thing by any means and I liked it so much I would have ordered it next time) and I got FutoMaki or the "Fat" roll and a Lava roll. Both were DIVINE! I was full about halfway through and couldn't stop eating. We both left very, very full. Funny enough the guy taking my order also made us our dinner. We had the tuna poke as an appetizer, which I enjoy enjoyed since its got spice to it. The fish was fresh here as in the tools too. We shared the rainbow roll, dragon roll, spider roll, and d'unknown roll. The rolls here were different (better) because they were light and airy, and not bathed in salt and soy sauce. Ordered take out this evening and am very disappointed. Cost $30 for a spicy salmon roll that was unlike an other roll I've ever had, in bad way, a shrimp tempura roll that was very small (only 5 pieces for $9) horribly wrapped with unusual fillings, and a tuna poke which legit tasted rotten and very fishy. The seaweed salad was off, and it was without a doubt not a poke like any that I've experienced in the past. I tasted no flavor aside from the fishy taste and am very surprised as this place has great reviews. read more

First time eating at zushi dozo, and I must say I am officially a fan and will definitely be back. The restaurant is small and simple, with room for you and a friend, or maybe your family. The staff is quick to take care of you and seat you, and are very attentive to your needs. I never had to ask for water as they were always on top of it, as well as clearing away dishes that were empty. The food itself is amazing. The appetizers were wuick and flavorful. My friend was craving udon soup, but also wanted to try some sushi. Luckily, it seems as if they read her mind when she saw the addition of a 1/2 portion of udon to any platter for $4. It was exactly what she was looking for! I got the chirashi zushi with sashimi served over sushi rice, which is a favorite of mine. Simple yet satisfying. The sushi was very fresh, my boyfriend had the ramen which was also very good. His had some sort of a peppery taste to it which we loved. The service was fast and informative in answering some questions we had on the variations of spice level that they have for the ramen. The ramen was actually spicier than we thought it would be at first but the waitress provided more broth to even out the spice a little more which was really awesome! Jake is the best. Ask for fresh items in the a la cart menu. Scottish trout, live uni, otoro are unreal. If you want to try a bit of Korean twist on sushi, get Hwe-Dup-Bap or Hwe-Moo-Chim which come with Korean sweet chili paste. Don't forget to try the smoothies at the end. It ruined a great meal we had. We had an order of the uni sushi, and we thought it was $7 like the menu stated, but when we got the check, it was listed as $9. The waitress/wife/co-owner? Told us the uni was imported from elsewhere so it was more expensive. This shouldve addressed to us in the beginning if anything but we were okay with her explanation so we left. As we were leaving, we heard a comment being made along the line of how we just dropped $70 on dinner and couldnt hear the rest of the comment. This comment really worked me up more than the $2 overcharge. Money isnt the issue, it's the principle of the thing. read more

I live across the river just outside Philly, but I tried Zushi Dozo after hearing about it from a golfing buddy. It's outstanding. I had the Dragon roll and the green tea ice cream. I would have had more if I hadn't already eaten at the mall a couple hours earlier. My server was also one of the chefs. Which leads me to address a complaint made my one of the recent reviewers, "Youngju K." YOUNGJU, Perhaps the reason your server wasn't overly smiley is because it's been excruciatingly hot lately. When you work in a kitchen, as I have, the problem is multiplied. Your server was likely also working in that kitchen. When it's over 90 degrees outside, it feels like it's likely over 100 when you're slaving over a grill, stove, or oven prepping various items that wind up on your plate (yes, even in a sushi joint). Eight of us went to Zushi Dozo on Saturday evening to celebrate my wife's birthday. From the time we got there the staff was amazing. They ensured that we had the proper glasses for our cocktails that are coats were safely stowed away and that we had enough silverware and chopsticks, water glasses and everything else to make our experience perfect. When it came time to order appetizers there are very accommodating; even making some rolls to satisfy the taste of some of our guests who were not used to sushi. Then the main dishes were created and delivered: everyone was blown away by how hot, how spicy and how tasty the main courses were. Specifically I got the house special ramen with Extra seafood spice level four. It's what I always get if it isn't broke I'm not trying to fix i. It is awesome, all of our other guests were equally amazed by what we ordered. After seeing the many great reviews for Zushi Dozo on Yelp, my wife and I decided to go there for dinner on a Saturday evening. When we arrived, the place was mostly empty except for a large group of teens. The ambiance of the was place was like a pizza takeout joint (which it obviously was in a former life) but with Japanese decorations, and there was Top 40 pop music blaring through the speakers, not what I'd expect at a Japanese restaurant on a Saturday night. I thought to keep an open mind though, because of the good reviews. My wife and I ordered the Nigiri Deluxe platter and awaited the usual salad with ginger dressing and miso soup that sushi restaurants provide with dinners - but it never came. Apparently, it's ala carte and will cost you another $6. But for $27 for the platter (as compared to $24 at nearby Mikado, with a much better ambiance) it felt like a total rip-off. In the end, the sushi was average - nothing special, though not bad. Overall, the bad ambiance and expensive prices (with no soup & salad!) really left a bad impression. As a Bostonian and a sushi fanatic, I'm always disappointed with the quality of food in Cherry Hill. It's a typical suburbia with sub par restaurants everywhere. But I think we finally found our spot whenever we come to visit my parents. Their sushi is fresh. Salmon was deep orange color with skinny fat lines. Mackerel was some of the best I've had. It was garnished with ginger and scallions. Their Uni and oysters were some of the best my friends have ever had. It was also my first time trying them and they really were delicious. We were there on a Saturday afternoon for lunch so the restaurant wasn't as busy. Fortunately for us, we were able to enjoy the full attention from their chef and the server who were extremely friendly and attentive. I don't think our experience will be the same if we came back on a busy night for dinner. It's small in there however. Only several tables and one unisex bathroom. On a cold night, I can see some patrons not wanting to sit close to the main door. It's BYOB which I'm sure you knew if you're from NJ. I'm not so we drove a mile down to pick up some wine. Still better than paying restaurant prices for drinks. Overall, this place is a hidden gem and Cherry Hill residents are lucky to have this restaurant in their backyard. Chef Jae has always amazed us with his food! We've followed him wherever he's gone! So excited that he's found a great location for his restaurant! The ambiance is very attractive. You walk into a small waiting area. The restaurant consists of about 10 tables plus a sushi bar that sits 4. Right away we were served with ice water and a nice little "Hi, how are you guys doing today?" I ordered the Hwe moo chim, which is a sashimi salad. My husband ordered the Korean chicken wings as an appetizer, the trifecta roll, and the hi-there roll. I immediately wanted to try some of his when his food came out. And I'm glad I did! The hi-there roll was out of this world. Full of different flavors. My sashimi salad was sweet and spicy. He put some mango in it so it paired very nicely with the spicy sauce.
