As a Bostonian and a sushi fanatic, I'm always disappointed with the quality of food in Cherry Hill. It's a typical suburbia with sub par restaurants everywhere. But I think we finally found our spot whenever we come to visit my parents. Their sushi is fresh. Salmon was deep orange color with skinny fat lines. Mackerel was some of the best I've had. It was garnished with ginger and scallions. Their Uni and oysters were some of the best my friends have ever had. It was also my first time trying them and they really were delicious. We were there on a Saturday afternoon for lunch so the restaurant wasn't as busy. Fortunately for us, we were able to enjoy the full attention from their chef and the server who were extremely friendly and attentive. I don't think our experience will be the same if we came back on a busy night for dinner. It's small in there however. Only several tables and one unisex bathroom. On a cold night, I can see some patrons not wanting to sit close to the main door. It's BYOB which I'm sure you knew if you're from NJ. I'm not so we drove a mile down to pick up some wine. Still better than paying restaurant prices for drinks. Overall, this place is a hidden gem and Cherry Hill residents are lucky to have this restaurant in their backyard. Chef Jae has always amazed us with his food! We've followed him wherever he's gone! So excited that he's found a great location for his restaurant! The ambiance is very attractive. You walk into a small waiting area. The restaurant consists of about 10 tables plus a sushi bar that sits 4. Right away we were served with ice water and a nice little "Hi, how are you guys doing today?" I ordered the Hwe moo chim, which is a sashimi salad. My husband ordered the Korean chicken wings as an appetizer, the trifecta roll, and the hi-there roll. I immediately wanted to try some of his when his food came out. And I'm glad I did! The hi-there roll was out of this world. Full of different flavors. My sashimi salad was sweet and spicy. He put some mango in it so it paired very nicely with the spicy sauce. It's sometimes hard to find a good sushi place not in the city, but this place was delicious. Food came out at a decent time and the servers were quick and efficient. I love sushi and eat it often - this is hands down one of the best places I have ever had sushi, possibly the best. All the rolls are amazing. My latest obsession is Bamboo Roll - it's spicy tuna, mango, wrapped in avocado. It's the creamiest most amazing roll, it's as creamy as butter. I also love the Dream Roll with torched squid on top. The sign says they close at 9pm. I came here at 7:53pm and they said they are closed. I said their sign says they close at 9 and they said they stop taking orders at 8pm. It was 7:53pm. I almost cried tears of joy in this restaurant. I've lived in New Jersey for 3 years and the thing I missed the most was my favorite sushi spot in South Florida. I've tried ALL of the places in SJ and Philly (the ones with awards and write-ups in the papers) and had come to the conclusion that the standards for freshness and actually good sushi in this area are ... low. The 4/5 heat on the ramen bowl was spicy enough to get me sweating a little, and did not drown out the rest of the flavors. The sushi is very good esp for the price! The sashimi was fresh and not like the cheaper-tasting all you can eat sushi buffets. The only reason I gave the 4 star is because the server was very unfriendly. The server did not even smile at us once and almost appeared angry. This place is great! Excellent service and great food. First the steam dumpling; they were one of the best steam dumpling that I had. They were soft in texture and juicy and full of flavor. Second the shrimp tempura sushi was crispy and chewy, well season. Third the Salmon Teriyaki; great amount of serving, the Salmon was perfectly cooked and the enough of teriyaki sauce! The rice and miso soup were good too, could have added some more bits of tofu to the miso soup but still good. First time trying Katsudon and it was great! Definitely would recommend this dish to anyone that wants to try a new dish. It's a bowl of rice covered with eggs simmered in soy/dashi broth and on top pork cutlet. For dessert we tried both the Mochi Ice cream and the tempura ice cream. Recommend the Mochi Ice cream if you are too full and don't want something as sweat. It is sweat and refreshing. This is a must stop for Japanese. The owner/Chef completes hes sushi and well as some traditional dishes just as perfect. The quality of the fish here is amazing, but I usually like my spicy rolls with the fish cut up and the spicy sauce mixed in. The fish was kept whole here with the spicy sauce added somewhere inside. Because of this, texture wise I didn't love the rolls as much as other places. My favorite roll was the sweet potato. It was served so fresh it was steaming when we got it. 5 stars for that roll! They'll give you spicy mayo on the side, if you ask. Lunch specials come with miso soup. The owner is so friendly and talked to us for awhile. I've been to highly reviewed sushi restaurants in New York City and they don't even compare to Zushi Dozo. As an independent restaurant, the wait staff and the sushi chef are a lot more attentive than the larger sushi chains. The sushi chef made an array of sushi plates for us at the sushi bar and each plate was a pleasant surprise. The sushi is unbelievably fresh. There was no bad aftertaste in any of the fish I tried and every bite melted in my mouth. They also have a lot of variety in their food and offer a lot more than sushi. They have a light and flaky fried butterfly shrimp that I highly recommend. I noticed there was tuna poke in the menu which is pretty hard to find on the East Coast so I definitely will try that next time I go back there. We walked in and were seated right away because we went to the sushi bar but I noticed it was getting pretty busy even at the slow time between lunch and dinner, so I would recommend making a reservation. Come on empty stomach because their menu is amazing and I would try every single item if I could make the room for it! read more

I went back for lunch this time and invited couple of my friends to go w/ me. Me and a friend had Hewdup-bap(Korean style chirashi?) and other friend had Udong. Unfortunately I got too excited and forgot to take picture of it, but my bowl looked fabulous-lots of fresh veggies, fresh sashimi pieces and white rice at the bottom. It also came w/ miso soup. It was really, really nice. All the veggies were fresh and quality of fish in it were good too. Their sauce for the dish were just right-not too spicy or not too sweet. It was a big bowl for me but I couldn't stop eating. I can not comment on Udong because I didn't taste any but she brought a take out menu w/ her try other dishes later. I was also very happy to have a kettle of green tea on our table(if u read my last review) and the lady who served us was very efficient so we didn't have any complaints on service at all. I just wanted to update and say that after they had read my previous review, they increased the amount of chicken in the ramen!! This place is amazing! Seriously some of the best food we have ever eaten. Unfortunately, we have moved out of state so we can no longer go to Zushi Dozo. Even having moved months ago, we still crave their sushi and ramen on perhaps a weekly basis. Nothing else compares to this little gem.
