So Good & worth the 25 minute table wait ... This Valentine's Day 2/14/23, decided to go Middle Eastern and this lil Busy Zyara definitely brought the Boom Boom Pow !!! Their food was absolutely delicious and very authentic with lots of flavor!! Their portions are definitely on the larger side !! When you first walk in you see their giant Gyro cones spinning round & round like meat candy !! All their food is prepared right in front of you; grilled & roasted to perfection & their entire kitchen is in open view so ya know they are super clean all their salads & sides are very appetizing to the eye !! The servers are very friendly & knowledgeable of their menu just in case you are unfamiliar with it... I had the mixed grilled plate with 7 assorted delicious grilled meats with their Turkish eggplant & Jerusalem salad as my sides. The ladies both had the Chicken Shawarma with rice & fries as their sides .... We all were very satisfied with our meals & service .. The crowds or lack thereof on Steinway Street tell you all you need to know about any given establishment. The ever-present hookah bars are either packed to the brim or so empty that you wouldn't want to step in. And as far as food, I knew I had found a suitable replacement for the now-shuttered El Rawsheh when I saw a long line of hungry patrons at the front of Zyara, watching the scooping of mezzes with anticipation. I went for the vegetarian mezze platter, including felefel, hummus, and the Turkish eggplant. The hummus is topped with a bit of zhug along with olive oil, and was incredibly rich. The felefel were perfectly crispy, and were enjoyed both by themselves as well as with a scoop of labneh (not pictured). The Turkish eggplant was less rich than the other items, but provided a nice contrast to the other mezzes on offer. read more

This was my first time here and the food was honestly amazing. We came as a party of 4 and we ordered the family size for 2. It was plenty for all four of us. The food was delicious and an amazing hidden spot to try out Mediterranean food!! We came around 4pm on the weekend, but I notice they had a larger area in the back when dinner time came around. This was a satisfying meal. I had a bit of the chicken shawarma sandwich and a bit of the sausage sandwich, and both were good. The portions were great, and the sides we ordered, the falafel and tabouleh, were good as well. A complaint I have is that the food came very late - it came 45 minutes after we ordered it. The place is very crowded though, so that's probably the reason. This is a good place for an authentic Middle Eastern meal - I enjoyed it. read more

Highly disappointed. . The reataurant workers in the counter were rude, unprofessional who does not know how to talk to their customers. The woman attending the customer was rude and was very disrespectful as well. I came to this restaurant with my family. It was my second time as my son loved this restaurant. I waited in line for 30 min. The woman on the counter gave me a dead star and then skipped me, called the other family that came after us. I the told her we were waiting in line. She apologize and asked us to wait like it was nothing. She the. Open the fridge door that was right next to me and open the door without saying excuse me. The door slightly hit me. She gave me the same deadly stare. I was about to leave but thought I need to speak to the manager. The front desk man with a beard told me no one is the manager. I told him the situation and he said well I can get you a table if you can wait for 5 min. During this process she was letting other in line go on their table. We had a great meal at Zyara; it's a small cafe from the outside, but you will be in for a treat! When you arrive, you are greeted by a bright array of salads and sides, You may see them making their breads right nearby. You can oreder easily on the screens along the wall, but we chose to go to the back, where there is a brightly lit ,inviting, and spotless dining room. It was Iftar during Ramadan, and there were many friends and families havnig meals, and the staff was fast and very accommodating. We weren't sure what to order, but following many Yelp recommendations, we ordered a mixed grill to share. It was more than enough for us, especially with the orange and lemon drinks. there were so many highlights: the pitas, the sauces, the egglpant, and the meats. The chicken breast was a little dry (almost always, right?) but the sauces made up for it. Watching others order, I think I would have ordered two platters, rather than the mixed platter, and I would have liked to try the falafels. Maybe next time!!! I love Astoria, there food is straight up god tier. They are known for their authentic middle eastern cuisine, and their rating is high for a good reason. I am someone who's eager to try tradition foods and learn about their culture. The staff is very nice and it can get really packed with a long line, and they take their sweet time to make the food however, in the end it's worth it. The portion is huge, I got one and I could barely finish it. The sauce is 10/10, with any of them shawarma get the sauce. The sauce was tasty and rich. The food is great but the service is not great and the credit card fee is insulting. I've dined here a few times and found the wait time curiously long. One time I was there with my family at 12:30 pm on a Saturday and the waitress said it would be 25 minutes before the food was ready. That was confusing because isn't lunch rush the time you want to be ready to cook and serve? Another time we asked for water and they said they "don't serve tap water" and charged $2.50 each for waters. Totally ghetto. I ate there two nights ago with two friends, about $25/person and at the end the bill was either $75, plus tax (*cash*) or $75 + $15 credit card fee, plus tax (*credit*). That's a 20% surcharge - outrageous! The waitress was not very friendly either, the overall feeling was curt. We already gave Zyara multiple second chances--in the spring we ordered catering from them...the delivery was late and after we called they said they made a mistake and the order wasn't ready. They apologized and scrambled it over but it was still 30 mins late. Now after the 20% card fee and getting charged for water I think we might be done with them. read more

This is the best shawarma sandwich in Astoria. They are also open until 1 am which is very nice. I ordered online and picked up in store. It was very fast and fresh. I also felt like it was the perfect amount of sauce in the sandwich. It was one of my favorite shawerma in America.. definitely recommend going here if you are in the area. The workers were quick with to make the sandwich. They have nice seating available inside, but it is also next to a lot of places where you can sit down and eat.
