There was live entertainment, plenty of seating, and a fun, lively atmosphere that made it easy to relax and enjoy the evening. We didn't eat, but we really enjoyed our drinks and the overall vibe. The staff was incredible from start to finish. A special shoutout to the doorman, who welcomed us, let us know they were open late, and told us about the live entertainment upstairs. That friendly recommendation made all the difference. If you're looking for a fun night out in San Francisco, Johnny Foley's is definitely worth a visit!

The high decorative ceilings, stained glass accents, dark wood finishes, vintage-style lighting, and unique artwork throughout the restaurant give the place a warm and authentic feel. It feels like stepping into a historic Irish gathering spot right in the middle of San Francisco. The inside has plenty of character, with cozy booths, classic pub seating, and a spacious layout that somehow still feels intimate and welcoming. The décor and atmosphere alone make this place worth visiting, whether you're there for drinks, dinner, or simply to take in the ambiance. The food definitely lived up to the setting. I ordered the beer-battered fish and chips, and they were excellent. The fish was flaky and fresh with a crispy, golden batter that had great flavor without feeling too greasy or heavy. The fries paired well with the dish, and the tartar sauce added a nice finishing touch. I also tried the loaded potato skins, which were packed with cheese, bacon, sour cream, and green onions--flavorful and a great appetizer to share. Service was friendly and attentive, and everything came out hot and fresh. Between the quality food, generous portions, and one of the most unique interiors I've seen in San Francisco, Johnny Foley's Irish House is absolutely worth stopping by. A great combination of atmosphere, comfort food, and classic Irish pub charm.

Now the food - holy cow it was delicious. And I was impressed by the coffee too, it was really good! Avocado Toast with potatoes - 5 out of 5 stars = my over easy eggs were cooked to perfection. I mean perfection. The avocado was fresh and plentiful on the delicious sourdough bread, which held up. There was some kind of cole slaw/radishes on top that were pefect addition - very tasty. And the breakfast potatoes - I am not a fan of this style, but these were so darn good, perfectly seasoned and cooked, they were absolutely amazing. Eggs Benedict - hubby said it was awesome, English muffins held up and the eggs were perfect, delicious hollandaise. Eggs and Bacon = really tasty bacon, but not my son's cup of tea - he is not the maple/applewood smoked kinda guy, he likes his bacon plain, but I found it delicious, more for mom. Like everywhere, you can tell they are understaffed and have to hustle. I do not envy the service industry these days, expectations to do more with less and deal with rude tourists and entitled people. Boris, our server was awesome - very kind, we sat for a bit as he tended to other tables, but I could sit in that restaurant and stare all day long, it is that cool. Highly recommend, another stop for our city adventures!

From the moment we stepped in, the Irish-accented bartender welcomed us like family. Not the good kind--more like the redheaded stepchildren who show up unannounced but are getting fed anyway. She didn't just serve drinks--she gathered us. There's a real sense that if things got cold outside, she'd tuck the whole bar into her metaphorical bosom, hand out shots of Fernet and tell us we're doing just fine in life (even if we clearly are not). And then there's the other bartender, who looks a lot like Gavin Newsom. So slick, composed and somehow making even a simple pour feel like a well-managed state operation. If he started giving policy updates between rounds, I wouldn't have even questioned it. Drinks were strong, vibes were stronger and by the end of the night we felt sure we'd been there our whole lives. Five stars for the Guinness, six stars for the bartenders and seven stars for the full emotional dependency formed somewhere between rounds two and three.

I had visited once last year for St. Patrick's day and had a lovely time. This time, I left before I even ordered a drink. This bar offers live music which drew an insanely large crowd. They definitely let far too many people into the building. We were tightly packed in there like a bunch of sardines. We finally pushed our way to the bar (which we thought was a tad emptier) in the back. Unfortunately we were wrong. We waited at the bar for about 10 minutes waiting for the bartender to get to us. We believed the bartender was extremely drunk. He was slurring his words and dropping things on the underbar. He completely ignored us (or was too drunk to even realize we were there). Eventually we got fed up and just left. As we were on our way out, the bartender literally waved goodbye to us! Although I would give them bonus points for having The Rookie playing on the TVs, this was all around a bizarre experience and I am not as inclined to revisit.

The service is consistently warm, attentive, and professional, and the atmosphere is elegant without feeling overly formal. This visit, the lobster risotto, scallops, and seafood dishes were fresh, beautifully presented, and well executed. Every plate showed great attention to detail. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that while the food is consistently good, it hasn't quite delivered the same "wow" factor I was hoping for compared to some of the newer Michelin-starred restaurants in the Bay Area. The menu also feels a bit traditional. Overall, it's still a wonderful place for a special occasion, and I'll gladly come back again. If you're looking for classic fine dining with outstanding service, Gary Danko is definitely worth a visit.
