We took the family out for a nice Sunday dinner after returning home from vacation. The renovation totally transformed the space into a cool atmosphere with incredibly comfortable decor! The valet greeted us right away and the hostess opened the door for our family. We were seated in the back room in one of the gorgeous round booths. Service was great even though we did not stick to the normal ordering script. One of our kids was starving and we have gluten allergies (which they were happy to accommodate). We ordered Burrata, Beet Salad, Shrimp cocktail and fries as appetizers right away. All of which were tasty. Fries were extra crispy which kids loved! I ordered a pomegranate Martini because of the cool glass chiller. My husband was able to try a few wines by the glass although they were out of the prosecco. After this we ordered our main courses. There isn't a kids menu. Kids menu for the day was spaghetti, hamburger or grilled cheese. Not a big selection but meals most kids like. One of ours had yummy spaghetti and the other a huge hamburger! I ordered the veal chop. My son insisted on me sharing because it was so good. My husband got the Veal Milanese and it came with a wonderful side salad. We ordered the corn and loaded baked potato for our sides to share. Everything was cooked perfect and we ate everything. Dessert was a traditional Crème brûlée that is our favorite! read more

Chef had problems with getting the steak to tempreture in a busy kitchen. Medium cane out with zero color difference. After sending it back the outside cane back charred. The meat away from the bone was correct, but meat st the bone was rare. For a 70 dollar dry aged strip they need to be accurate. read more

This restaurant always portrays excellent customer service and good food. However, the oyster shuckers could be better. For example, they should work harder to ensure the raw oysters are not inundated with shell pieces and grit (debris) and that the bellies of the oysters are not completely destroyed before serving them to the customers. read more

Amazing! I love that this place is where it is. As someone who lives in the area, I think this place has upped the options in the Vinings/Smyrna area considerably. The food is great. The service is great. The look of the place is great. The overall quality of the place keeps me from having to drive to Houston's on West Paces every time I want to have a consistently good meal. read more

I can say that may have been the best steak I've ever eaten, hands down. I saw the price of the ribeye and laughed at the waiter, he said well we could go down a selection , I said no, let's see if it's worth that price. It was. Service was spectacular too. I do think the main seating room off to the right could use a little more ambiance, but overall this restaurant is a must try if you like a good steak. If "101" designates an entry level college course, then "101 Steak" is aptly named for its basic and rudimentary attempt at steaks. The steaks would be otherwise utterly forgettable if not for the truly outlandish price tag affixed to them. I ordered the "101 Steak Delmonico 16oz" for a mere $46. The steak was exactly what you would expect at an Outback or Long Horn (no offense to either). Someone else at our table ordered the exact same steak and when compared side-by-side they appeared to be at least 25% different in size (and the larger of the 2 was not 25% greater than 16 oz!). If they were 1" thick, I would be surprised. Given how thin these steaks were, I guess I am not surprised that my "medium & Pittsburgh" request was going to be a problem...it arrived at the table neither medium (well done) nor Pittsburgh. I will give the server and management credit for being very apologetic and promptly bringing me another steak that was in fact Pittsburghed. Again, it was so thin that while charred on the outside, the inside was mostly rare but continued to cook on my plate. They really did try to get the temp/order right but just as I would "really" like to play in the NBA, my mediocre athleticism and 5' 10" frame just isn't able to get it done no matter what my intentions might be. I would not be exaggerating when I say that by the time I was done, 30% of "the steak" (in the form of inedible fat and grizzle) was amassed on the side of my plate. 101 Steak pushes a lot of sauce, butters and toppers which to me often signifies the quality of the steaks don't stand on their own merit and I suspect this to be the case here. Someone else at our table ordered the NY Strip which was similarly unremarkable. With restaurants like Hal's, Bones & Chops setting the bar, 101 Steak is at best a steak house impostor charging preposterous prices because just they have self-designated themselves as a "Steak House" in Vinings. The meal and restaurant was not a complete loss. I must admit that the sides were quite good. The Crispy Brussel Sprouts were very good, bordering on spectacular. The Jalapeño Corn Brulee was very good as were the Pomme Frites with Garlic Aioli and Steak Sauce. The Wedge salads were quite underwhelming and in need of extra blue cheese for what was a pretty minimal about of "wedge". If I were a betting man, which I am, I would not bet on 101 Steak surviving in its present state. I had heard from plenty of others about the shocking price tags for the relatively mediocre products but I had to see for myself. As others confirm the same, I suspect those who know better will stay clear and the efficient market theory will run its course and aptly punish those charging 5 star prices for 2 star steaks to adapt or migrate. read more

Hubby took me here for my birthday. Probably one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten in. The shrimp/calamari w/hoisin sauce was tender, flavorful, just spicy enough; crispy fried. My entrée was the Green Egg pork chop; huge chop, but oh so tasty. It was tender, moist (and I like my pork medium well), nice char marks; good flavorful marinade and the waiter said, Yes, it is cooked in a Big Green Egg. Hubby had a shrimp cocktail which looked beautiful and he said was excellent; he then had the French onion soup; he devoured that. His entrée was a Filet with herbed butter which he said was excellent and cooked perfectly. Sides were pimento cheese mac n cheese; this was okay (I'll try another side instead of mac n cheese next time); collards, very good, sweet with hints of bacon, and probably the best grilled asparagus I've ever had. It was buttery with a hint of lemon and shallots. I really wanted dessert, but I was so full and I took home over half my chop. Oh yeah, the martini was excellent as well. We will go back; ask for Corey; he's an excellent server. Atmosphere is great; kinda old school steakhouse. Good music; not too loud, but we were there on a Tuesday night. They do Sunday brunch and I'm thinking we might try that real soon. Valet parking. read more

I travel regularly to the Vinings area on business and I've long been tempted to try 101 Steak after stopping to read the menu on one of my aimless walks through the neighborhood. The prices were a little off-putting, but I had a taste for a steak, so I finally decided to pull the trigger. I was greeted warmly as I entered. I was alone and decided to sit at the bar. Quiet, clean, dark wood. Looks like a steakhouse. It was early in the dinner hour and it was Monday. Still, it was surprisingly empty. I asked for a beer list and was disappointed to see a very sparse selection, but I was here for steak, not beer, so I cut them some slack. I ordered a Terrapin Hopsecutioner on draft, which I thought would pair well with the steak that was in my head, but I was told that they were out. I reluctantly settled for a Sweetwater 420. Not a good start. I ordered a 16oz Delmonico steak. In my experience, it's a rare restaurant that doesn't overcook a steak ordered Medium Rare but, at these prices, I was confident that wouldn't be an issue. Nevertheless, I took pains to explain to my server that I wanted it cooked between Rare and Medium Rare, just to be safe. She suggested 'Rare plus', which sounded like a good enough description, so I went with that. I then discovered that the steak was served ala carte, so I added an $8 'loaded' baked potato (!!!). I've grown accustomed to priming my taste buds with a salad, but, since I neglected to order a salad course (dinner is ala carte), the steak arrived a bit quicker than expected and I had to dive right in. Not a major fail, just an unexpected adjustment. The steak had a very prominent char - just the way I like it. Unfortunately, the char came across like a burnt layer of heavy seasoning, in which only the salt survived. I couldn't quite pick out whatever else might have been in there. Sadly, 'Rare plus' was not much different than the overcooked Medium Rare I awkwardly tried to avoid. It was more of a 'Medium minus'. My server asked if the steak was cooked to my satisfaction, and I told her that, in hindsight, I should have gone with my gut and ordered it Rare. She seemed ready to offer to replace it (I'm guessing), but it was far from inedible, so I preemptively declined (I try hard not to be 'that guy'). That said, it doesn't appear that they skimped on the quality of the beef itself, which certainly helped mitigate the overcooking. Butter was a bit heavy handed, but it didn't hurt anything, so I won't dwell on that. The potato was cooked perfectly, but otherwise unremarkable, though it seems 'loaded' may be just a word on the menu. The meal was far from a disaster but, at $60+, my expectations were a bit higher. Judging from many of the reviews, my experience may, indeed, have been a fluke but, at $60+, ... I'm glad I went, if only to satisfy my curiosity. I may give them another chance, I may not. It all depends on how hard the urge for a steak hits next time I'm in town. read more

One of the worst meals I have had in a long time. The steak was cold, then cut into pieces by the waiter for some reason, so not able to send back for more cooking, Sides were late and cold. We had to get the plates off the tray ourselves as we waited for the server. Corkage fee was $30. I know they are new but it was really bad. Will be a long time if we give it another shot. read more

What a great experience. The decor is cozy and romantic, the wine selection is pretty great (we found one of our favorite blends right away for a great price), and the menu is spot on! We arrived 20 minutes early for our reservation with plans to sit at the bar and have a cocktail, but they had our table ready for us! The popovers were ridiculously amazing (we even had our server smuggle a few in our to-go bag for breakfast this morning). The marrow bones were okay. Not too meaty, but that happens. The shrimp and calamari though! I could eat that all day every day! The soy ginger sauce was in a league all it's own! My steak came out a little over cooked (it came medium to my preferred medium rare). I did not send it back because it was still so juicy and tender and melt in your mouth! Not to mention the manager was at our table in less than 30 seconds to check on my steak, and they comped an appetizer, side dish, AND dessert! My husband's was cooked to perfection. The pimento mac-n-cheese was good, as was the asparagus. But the cremé brûlée!!!! Oh my goodness! This will be a go-to steak house for us for as long as they're around! read more

Great new addition to the Vinings neighborhood. Chef Joey is the best! Steaks are cooked perfectly, but the best is his calamari shrimp dish! The space is beautiful, much improved from Social Vinings. Pricey-even by Buckhead standards-and the bar staff could be a lot more attentive. My second time visiting 101 Steak and I must say its a delight to have this fine dining experience in the community. Although I no longer eat beef, the rock shrimp and calamari is the BEST. Love the asian inspired flavors in this dish and the portion is plentiful. Tried the "Millionaire" drink - interesting concoction. We look forward to going back to sample their brunch. Amazing food in a lovely setting, very accommodating. We ate here as a large group (12people) after being evacuated from.the coast, the service was second to non and the staff were great with us having young children. I will address the issue of a review on a couple of levels to not over simplify the 4 versus 5 star rating. Very recently opened which we would not have guessed given the professionalism and synchronicity of the staff from front desk to sommelier. These people are working hard to present great food in a great environment. Waiter Randy is top tier. I think the kitchen staff prepared our meal to perfection and our issues were front end. Oysters were superbly fresh from both coasts. Paul Hobbs was excellent. Creamed corn was a highlight. Our medium rare filet mignon was grilled correctly but served not crazy hot which was a stumble and without the ordered topping. In a grumpier mood I would have rejected. Chops would not fumble at the goal line. Wear a sweater. read more

Loved this restaurant! We started with cocktails at the bar and were impressed by the fresh twists on old favorites. Moved to the back room for dinner and loved the atmosphere--dark woods, lots of leather. Cozy, but refined. Our waiter was excellent, funny and knowledgeable, but not overbearing. His helper kept our water glasses full. We loved the popovers (even asked for seconds!). My husband had (cooked-with garlic and cheese, yum!) oysters and swears they are the best he's ever had. I had a fantastic filet with grilled shrimp on top (perfect) and he had a ribeye with the best flavor I've ever had (it was a slightly better than my filet, and that is generally the only cut I order!). The side you must get is is the pimento (plus bacon!) mac and cheese. It comes out in it's own little black skillet and is incredible. For dessert we split the chocolate cake (with sea salt on top. Heaven) and could only eat half of it-huge portion. We loved finding a non-chain place close by (Smyrna) with amazing food, service and bar. Will definitely be back! read more

Went on our anniversary, and the experience essentially ruined the night. I am giving one star for pretty decent service, nice decor & atmosphere. The food was outrageously overpriced for the quality. It was Bones prices, and Longhorn Steakhouse cuts of beef. Had a grizzly, fatty, undercooked $50 steak. Sent it back and got a slightly better piece of steak, but still very undercooked. The creamed Spinach was a completely dried out glob of what looked like frozen spinach or something that must have sat cooking all day. Our seared Tuna appetizer was fishy tasting and dark grey in color. How they let it out of the kitchen and to a table in a restaurant like this is baffling. I love their other restaurants, so really was expecting better than this and very surprised. After all that went wrong (and they acknowledged providing a bad experience), they bought us a single glass of wine on the house. If they don't pull it together, will not last. At top tier steakhouse prices (waiter was pushing an $89 ribeye), they have to be much better than this. read more
