Wait time sucked - I think we were there for an hour and a half, and the table next to us got there a good 15 minutes after us and got their food before us. Weak coffee which is sorta expected from a cafe like this. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and the gravy was BARELY warm. One biscuit was cooked perfectly, the other was a little burned. The sausage and hashbrowns on the side were fine although the hashbrowns could have been cooked slightly longer. If you're desperate for a breakfast cafe in the Eastlake area you could go here, but you might be better off going to a grocery store and making your own breakfast. Came here for brunch with a pretty big appetite and ordered the Carrot Cafe Omelette with an English muffin; hash browns were also included. I felt that the omelet was just okay. It had chicken, avocado, mozzarella cheese, among other things, and I just wasn't really impressed. I liked that the eggs were soft and fluffy, but I didn't like how a single avocado slice was just thrown into one side of the omelet. It felt a little out of place and I would've liked to have maybe a couple slices spread throughout the omelet. We've been here several times and will continue to stop by every so once in awhile, as it is one of the only breakfast places in Eastlake. Think small town greasy spoon meets big city. Having been spoiled by amazing cafes in the past, our expectations are high. Each time we go, there is always something a little off, but where else can you get pancakes and hashbrowns on South Eastlake for $7? The omelets and scrambles are tasty, and the pancakes are great (when they're cooked all the way through). I came in for breakfast, 10am, on a Saturday morning. There was no wait for a table. I wanted to love this place, but it was just okay. I got the Alaskan scramble, which had shrimp and salmon, green onion, capers, and cream cheese. It was a bit bland and it had so little salmon, I could barely tell it was in there. The toast was a little burned and the hash browns were bland. My bill with tip was nearly $20 and I didn't get anything to drink. I was a little bit disappointed. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? While I do try to be understanding and have compassion for businesses that are struggling during covid, there were just too many things wrong here. We ordered take out and I got toast and hash browns with my order and they were almost completely uncooked. As in my "toast" was still white and soft and the hash browns were barely brown in a couple of places and looked like a big soggy mess. My boyfriend got coffee cake with his order that was so hard he needed a knife to cut through it and it basically ended up being inedible, which is a shame since it costs extra to add it on. My omelet was very tasty, but that was about the only thing that went right. What is most alarming to me is that my boyfriend went to pick it up and said that the indoor dining was completely packed and definitely not at the 25% capacity that we are currently allowed. I understand how difficult it is for businesses right now, but in the restaurant industry when you are dealing with patrons that are unmasked for long periods of time, it puts everyone at risk, particularly the staff, and that is completely unacceptable to me. Everyone is doing their best, but putting profits over safety will never be okay in my book. read more

14 Carrots! I ate approximately zero carrot product during my visit, so I cannot attest to the relevance or meaning of the name (bad, overdrawn joke). Not to bore you folks, but I ordered four eggs, toast, bacon, potatoes and coffee; I eat a basic breakfast when I get to a new spot, just so I'm able to compare the two offerings for all of you, accurately. Just kidding, I just love a classic breakfast myself. All of the food I ordered was really good, there were no issues with runny eggs or overcooked potatoes or burnt bacon. It wasn't Hall of Fame status, but it was some good, hearty breakfast food! Seemed to be plenty of Gluten-Free options if you're into that! Quick service, friendly service, reasonable prices for breakfast (I can rarely get around paying for breakfast when I could have a week's worth of ingredients for a breakfast or two's cost), and a good location. Nothing special, really, but there wouldn't be regrets if you decide to give 14 Carrot a try! What I would call a good, reliable morning meal, at a fair price, with a friendly environment. We headed in a little before noon and were seated immediately. My husband ordered the corned beef hash. I ordered the tahini French toast. My meal looked lovely but it was a bit difficult to eat, due to how dry the tahini butter mixture was. Like, stick-to-the-roof-of-your-mouth type dry. The fruit and yogurt it came with was the best part. The other off-putting issue was that the check was dropped a few minutes after the food came. I know that waiters always say, "Here's the check, but no rush!" but yeah, now I feel kind of rushed, right? Three stars means A-OK and 14 Carrot Cafe is totally A-OK. A selling point for me was that it came with cream cheese, but sadly there was too little on it. I did enjoy the side of fruit that came with it, which was a nice change of pace from the potato chips or fries that one might get at other restaurants. There is something profoundly intimidating about raw spinach. Spinach in curry, spinach with balsamic vinegar, wilted spinach with Korean sauce, all are splendid, but raw spinach just frightens me. As fast as I can, I get it into a pan with some oil and salt and garlic, and if I find when I think about it afterwards that in fact I'm not even hungry, well, I can always put it in the fridge with the refried beans, and make quesadillas with it later. And then there is spinach salad. Spinach salad, reason proclaims, must be made out of raw spinach. And it is good. And I think to myself that I should make it. And even sometimes do I purchase some spinach, and some bacon and other requisite items, and even do I bear them home to my dwelling, whereupon--I stir-fry the spinach and make some rice and fry up bacon, and there I am again, saladless. Rarely can I think of a very good reason to go out to eat, but spinach salad is one such reason. Into the mysterious recesses of a restaurant kitchen goes raw spinach, and out it comes, transfigured, and I get to eat it, and then I am happy. Unless it's at 14 Carrots. There, you order a spinach salad and what you get is a big pile of raw spinach, in all its fearsomely glistening velvety green glory. Adorned with a little pile of raw mushrooms, to boot. read more

I was really excited to find a breakfast/brunch place so near to my new place! But then I actually ate here. The menu sounds great, but the food is forgettable. Small portions for the price and lousy service. The final nail in the coffin is the little sign that tells you to get the f*** out when you're done because other unlucky diners are waiting to be seated. Service sucks, food has gotten worse. Its way overpriced and even drunk I can make something that tastes better and has less grease. The staff there is SO sweet and welcoming. Too bad the mushrooms I had in my scramble weren't the same... but the espresso was AMAZING. I think I need to drink a latte from a mug more often. It only cost me about $15 for a full breakfast and a 16-oz latte. Not a bad treat to myself. I wish they stayed open later. The service is way down to Earth like I'd find back home in W. Michigan. They have such a wide variety of food that it's hard to choose. You really can't go wrong though, whether it's an omelette, benedicts, or chilaquiles. They also have a board of changing specials, when you want to mix it up. Cannot explain the giddiness that arose when getting my I-want-real-breakfast-not-diet-food-breakfast way this past weekend. The "14 Carrot" name had been thrown out a few times over the several months by my boyfriend. A teaser, however. It is a cute name, isn't it? Diamonds are a girls best friend, but food... well, food is what really gets me going! I'm not a fan of the lack of space here, but I didn't come for that - I came for breakfast! And the chorizo burrito is what was chosen. It could have used a little more flavor - but I'm from a (.50) Mexican family who makes the real stuff - whatever that is. I can't quite put my finger on it but for some reason, this is the first spot I think of when I want to go somewhere warm and cozy for lunch. 14 Carrot has become a somewhat regular spot for me for a few reasons: good burgers and fries, a comforting atmosphere, and super friendly service. No, this is not the place to go if you want a look-down-your-nose-at-anything-but-a-gourmet-burger burger, but if you want a pretty darn good burger that is large, with thick and yummy fries, this is the place to be. The prices? A little high for me, but not too much for the amount of food I'm getting. The breakfast is something I've never tried and considering that's what they seem to be known for, I will have to do that someday - but in the meantime, for a good lunch, I will keep coming back. I was staying with some friends in Eastlake and this was a quick walk up the hill. I must say that I was glad that I did. First off this is not a place that is going to set trends in food. This place is where a lumberjack would get a hearty meal and a bold cup of coffee. It has a "Flo's Diner" feel but on the funky side. In fact I think the older lady that greeted me was Flo. I had the bacon and cheddar scramble. It came with a very nice crispy hash-brown and a good helping of eggs. I thought the service was good not great, but it didn't need to be. I appreciate that the waitress brought every possible breakfast condiment, without me asking, that I could need. Ketchup, 2 kinds of hot sauce, and strawberry jam (not tiny little plastic tubs). This was the hearty breakfast that I needed to fuel my walk of Seattle. This walk took me all the way to Quest Field and back across to Fremont to Archie McPhee's. Don't go to 14 Carrot if you can't be honest with yourself, and admit that some times you enjoy mac and cheese out of the box. If your food here is bland, then pick up the salt off the table. It's ok here, this is not a pretentious place the line cook won't be offended. ;) This is not a blue chip dining experience, but it is a blue collar one, and that's A-Ok with me. read more

I love breakfast. I'm not sure why there isn't more universal acclaim for the 14 Carrot. Maybe I get a different experience because I'm a late riser and roll in around 11am. But the people are nice, the food is great and the ambiance fun. I usually order the Sweet Tooth breakfast featuring the cinnamon roll, with a waffle on the side (yes I'm a pig -- oink!). My wife gets the croissant sandwich, which has eggs, bacon and cheese in it, or sometimes she gets the granola which she likes. Call me crazy, maybe it's because I'm from the Eastside and there aren't that many great places for breakfast out here. But I've been going to the 14 Carrot for years and will gladly continue to do so! ps- I like fake maple syrup better than the real stuff. My wife doesn't. There you go, to each their own! read more
