The food is excellent. Goat cheese balls, seafood Mac & cheese, and limoncello cake were our favorites and absolutely delicious. We ordered oven-roasted vegetables and they came after we were finished with all the mains. Service was slow at times, but they were very busy. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful. We sat outside. We didn't know that choosing 7:15 for our reservation meant we had to sit outside, but even on a 90-degree day, it was quite pleasant, shady, and a nice breeze kept us comfortable. The one reason they didn't get 5 stars? When we were seated, we were told that we had to get out by 9:00! There were empty tables outside before we left (about (9:10), so this rude, inhospitable behavior was totally unnecessary. The sometimes slow service made it impossible for us to be out by 9:00. Our waiter didn't seem to know about our deadline. People weren't lined up to get in on Thursday night. Will we come back? It's been a rough reviewing week: First- I go to this place called "Summer Salts in Bethany" and the food was sub par. Next- I get home from Bethany and visit my friend in Baltimore, we go to this little Sushi hole in the wall, and it was extraordinarily... sub par. But now, I get to tell you about a restaurant that lifted my spirits, renewed my faith in food-manity and truly was a pleasure to dine at. 14 Global. A place that you could tear out of Bethany Beach, put in any bustling metropolitan area, and it would do just as well as it's doing there. Innovative food: Check out these delicious hand cut fries. They come to the table looking as though they are soaked in oil. Glistening upon the backdrop of the white plate. But that aint oil. It's sherry vinegar. And, well a LITTLE bit of truffle oil. The vinegar is more pronounced. The result is a delicious fry served with a killer smokey roasted garlic dipping sauce that evokes a balsamic flavor. Interesting Drinks: I got a traditional caipirinha, but I also got to taste the acai caipirinha, and the basil lemonade. The caipirinha was delicious. Balanced and flavorful. The acai one was on point too. Not a huge fan of the basil lemonade- tasted akin to drinking pesto. But, people were having it right next to us, and were loving it. I think it's just a flavor preference on my end. It was cool and refreshing as a mother- "shut-yo-mouth". Service: Service at the bar was tops! The manager/owner? was super pleasent and didn't mind explaining drinks or menu items to us. The service at the table was a little bit slower, long stretches with no waiter after the app drop & entree drop. More on the food: We also ordered the charred ceasar salad, which had the most interesting croutons I had ever eaten. They were "cheddar corn pone croutons". There was a hard outer texture and in the bigger croutons, a delicious velvety inside. The dressing was KILLER. Like, bottle-that-stuff killer. Seafood mac and cheese was delightful. Especially finding the giant full lobster claw buried in the mix. The flavor was great, not overpowering, quite well balanced. Entree: "Crispy Pork Belly- Blueberry, honey & chipotle glazed pork belly, served over smoked carrot infused creamy polenta, with bell peppers, Asiago cheese, and pickled red onions. " Absolutely delicious. The pork belly seemed as though fried and grilled. The smoked carrot infused polenta could have been a little warmer, but the flavor was there. Blueberry and chipotle drizzle, pork belly, polenta, and pickled onions made for a perfect bite. You encounter some depth in the berries that coat crispy fatty pig, the polenta's creaminess lends a nice back for the bold front flavors and the pickled onions cut through the heaviness to add an exquisite brightness to the finish. Talk about full. 2 cocktails 1 seafood mac and cheese 1 order fries 1 salad 1 entree Came to just over 70 bucks. A price you'd be hard pressed to find in DC. And I didn't event mention the atmosphere. Giant pieces of flagstone puzzle-piece the walls, and the cool modern vibe is accented with rustic fabrics. Stone, canvas, glass. Perhaps we hit an off night or the kitchen was understaffed? We've enjoyed 14 Global on every one of our many visits to Bethany Beach. Creative food, well prepared and good service. But tonight - a Monday, if that matters, something was awry. An appetizer, the shishito peppers, arrived a full 20 minutes after the large plates, and only after two reminders. (The restaurant comped us the peppers.) We were four adults and one of our large plates never arrived at all. Our very nice waiter kept checking on it. One hour passed. More requests for the missing order. After three of the four adults had completely finished their dinners (large plates), we were about to give up entirely and get the check. The manager then appeared carrying the missing large plate for the fourth diner along with a very surly attitude. He informed us that delays are to be expected with "tapas" - wrong! We are sophisticated diners and know full well something went wrong in the kitchen when the final order comes out an hour after the others! We had a 5:45 pm reservation & received the last plate at 7:30 pm. We wished the manager had been honest with us, problems happen - instead of blaming us for not understanding how tapas work! Very disappointed in the handling of this delay by the manager. We urge the owner to train the manager in customer service. read more

So refreshing to see all the plant based options this restaurant had! The service was wonderful and we got a cozy little booth nook...which my children enjoyed. The menu was so fun to explore with different sized and styled tapas. We tried the blackened shrimp and grits, fried goat cheese balls with a honey pistachio glaze and then the insanely tender short ribs. We also tried the Mexican Street corn chowder with crab meat and that was the only "meh" dish. I really couldn't taste the crab meat (a $4 add on item) and it has more of a nutty coconut milk flavor than traditional street corn. The strawberry cake at the end was such a nice finale to the meal. It was moist and so fresh. This place is such a little gem for a beach town! read more

This was one of our better dining experiences in Bethany Beach. The restaurant is very cute and located near the Bethany Beach boardwalk. They seated us even though we didn't have a reservation. The waiter couldn't be nicer. We indulged in their Tapas Menu. We had: Kings Cup - a very different beverage with a Malbec wine base Blood Orange Mojito - very tasty Caesar Salad - very good and interesting. They grilled the romaine lettuce. Charcuterie Plate - nice assortment of cheeses and prosciutto. Ahi Tuna - it was okay, a little to hot for my taste. The wontons were greasy. Mini Tacos - the mahi taco was good, the pork belly taco was poor. It didn't taste like pork belly more like burned, greasy fat. No sweetness. Blondie with Salted Caramel Ice Cream - very good but the ice cream was about 40% melted when it got to the table. The bathrooms were very clean. Now in it's second season, we popped in for lunch over the holiday weekend. Wonderful, cute decor so was our server Joey. We shared two dishes the cheese pizza and the seafood mac and cheese. The mac was awesome, lots of seafood and a very flavorful truffled Alfredo sauce. The pizza was less successful. Nice crust but when I picked up a slice everything, sauce and cheese slid off the slice. We will definitely go back to try some of the other very creative listed dishes. We have been working our way through the food and drink menus at Global and we have never had an item that was short of amazing. Even I, an eat-to-live person, have to slow down my eating speed so to appreciate every bite. It is obvious that the chef has taken exceptional care to ensure that the ingredients are fresh, the seasoning is creative, the texture is delightful and the cooking is just right. Global is the type of place that you cannot wait to go back to. You have to fight the urge to order the same dish and try new offerings. There is one exception though, I must have the soup trio every time. The drink menu also has a number of original highly creative cocktails. I can't believe the very few negative reviews. Did they go to the same restaurant? We continue to go to this restaurant every chance we get. Often twice a week when we are in town. We have tried everything on the menu and are going through it again. Basically we cannot get enough. When we go to other restaurants we do like the old V8 commercial "we should have gone to Global" We have tried every restaurant in Bethany and Rehoboth. We still think the chef belongs in New York City or Los Angeles, you better try him before he scapes. read more

Service: 3 stars. Andrew was our server - seemed uninterested in engaging. He brought our food and opened our wine. No personality. Didn't even try. He wasn't mean or rude so 3 stars. The defining moment for the 2 stars: we sat down and Andrew mentioned that the restaurant isn't serving tap water right now because of the virus. So offered us water bottles. Ok. Fine. BUT THEN, the bill comes and each cheap generic water bottle cost us $2.50. Ummm excuse me, but you are a restaurant on the beach and it's 1000 degrees with 200% humidity in July and you're telling me the only water I can receive is a marked up crappy bottled water that you price gouge me for?!?! Something is wrong here. The entire case likely cost you $5. Every other restaurant we'd been to in Bethany was providing tap water with no problems. We spent $170 at your restaurant yet you Nickel and dime us for some waters. Very unnecessary, especially in these times. I would rather spend my precious paycheck (that could be sparse due to COVID) relaxing and enjoying your food rather than worrying about affording to be hydrated in the blazing sun. We come to Bethany quite often and hopefully this serves as a jumping point on improvements. Go back to tap or charge less for hydration. Absolutely not ok to not offer a cheaper solution to a basic bodily need for a paying customer. read more

Spent three weeks in Bethany Beach and loved every minute. We made an annual visit to 14 Global for dinner. My wife had the Shanghai Crispy Pork Belly and I had the Seafood Mac & Cheese. Both were good though they are not complementary dishes as the pork belly is far more seasoned than the mac and cheese. The pork belly was perfectly cooked but the heavy seasoning became a bit much after a while and we did not finish the dish. We also shared the cheese plate. The cheeses were excellent and the plate had meats, pickles, jams and almonds that went very well together. We were also pleased that the sound level was tolerable. read more

We made reservations and were told we were assigned to a specific table where the current diners had just ordered a new round of drinks and it was clear they were a long way off from leaving. Instead of rotating tables to the next available we were told we had to wait for that specific one table which clearly was going to be a very long while past our reservation time. We left for another place to dine after waiting for 20 minutes past our reservation time. Clearly not reliable if you actually expect to be seated anytime close to a supposed reservation. Wow, great place in Bethany. We drove up from Ocean City to go here based on my mom, sister and dad loving heir visit last year. And we forgot until the bill came that there's no tax! The cocktails are incredible, such interesting ingredients and combinations. I had a basil kiwi frozen lemonade, my sister had the pineapple pico and we were both thoroughly impressed! There were four of us who split a bunch of apps and tapas- scallops, guac, lamb chops, shrimp and grits. The seafood mac and cheese was my favorite! Oh and the corn pone bread is a MUST- and even save it for dessert. The food was all very good but I was even more impressed with the drinks. Overall, I would absolutely visit this spot again and go for drinks and light tapas. Absolutely loved this little tapas place just a block from the boardwalk. We were told that they had one of the best cocktail menus and they were right. I had the "dragon" which was a habanero margarita and my husband had a cocktail with muddled cucumber and raspberry. We decided on getting tapas to share but they do have large plate options if that's something you'd prefer. We had the charcuterie, cheese plate, scallops and tuna tar tar (which was the best I had ever had - so many different flavors/crunch.) I was too stuffed for dessert but my husband had the chocolate mousse. The desserts all sounded amazing. We ate way too much but everything sounded so good. Some of the other options that looked good was the edamame dip and the calamari. The place is small and does accept early reservations (latest 6pm), after that it is first come first serve. We had very high hopes for 14 Global. It was recommended as THE place to go in Bethany by friends. And we had a hard time getting a reservation. But our hopes were dashed by the actual experience. We began the meal with hand crafted cocktails. The Cuban mojitos had way too much lemon and were disappointing. The Old Fashioned did not resemble any we'd had before and the Manhattan was clearly a mistake: too much syrup not enough bourbon. It is hard to say what was worse: the food or the service. We asked the waitress her recommendations, as we often do, and we followed them. Food is served tapa style so you get what you get when you get it. First to arrive was the fried goat cheese. These were delicious and would turn out to be the food highlight of the meal... if not for the great goat cheese escape. When we went to serve out the dish, one of the four goat cheese balls rolled off the too small spoon (we never were given a serving spoon) went crashing to the floor, rolled across and lodged itself under a nearby table with a couple engaged in a heavy discussion. Our efforts to retrieve the escaped item were thwarted by our desire not to interupt. We waited until the couple left, warning them of our erred contribution to the decor, and retrieved our now very smashed goat cheese ball in a napkin. We spent a few moments cleaning the floor so we or nobody else would slip on the mess. You'd think the wait staff might have noticed our ordeal, but if they did they took no action in aid. We placed the offending item on the table and asked a passing waiter if he could get some replacement napkins and take the squashed, messy item so we would have space for our food. Rather than take it, the waiter said he would send our waitress. Nobody showed. We sat without napkins to eat our remaining food which continued to arrive without anybody willing to take the older dishes or the recovered goat cheese escapee. The other three dishes we ordered went from bad to worse. The togarashi tuna tataki was poorly executed because the tuna served was not as good as one can get in most grocery stores. To make things worse, the tuna was doused with soy sauce, likely to cover the fact that it was not super fresh. The overall effect was the dish tasted terrible over-sauced rather than fusion. If there was watermelon radish in on our tataki, it was sliced so thin and hidden it was not evident -- a true shame for a veggie usually so visually pleasing. The spicy Korean duck wings were a travesty. IMHO the Chef owes a serious apology to ducks everywhere. Duck has an amazing flavor and these were so doused with hot sauce to make them indistinguishable from any other bird. Moreover, the sauce itself was spicy but without actual flavor. It neither tasted Korean nor like hot wings. The wings were so bad our table did not finish them even though duck is one of our favorite foods on the planet. The prize for the worst dish not of the evening, but of the summer, goes to the Mexican Street Corn Gnocchi. We love street corn and have eaten it in different iterations around the world. There was corn in this lousy dish, but it did not resemble any street corn we've ever encountered in our many journeys.... but what made the dish truly awful was the doughy gnocchi. We can't begin to describe the yuck factor. Nobody at the table ate more than a bite. When the waitress came by to check on us we decided the goat cheese escapee (which still sat on our table) had the right idea. She asked if we were enjoying our food and we told her we were not. She shrugged hed shoulders and walked away... without taking the dishes or the napkin encased goat cheese. The night was still enjoyable because we were with friends at the beach... but we enjoyed our evening in spite of 14 Global, not because of it. read more
