"Medium Well" burger. Not sure it was even cooked!

I recently dined at the 17th Light Restaurant with a group of 10 friends, which is located inside the Marriott. The restaurant was close to where we were staying, and one of the few places that we didn't have a wait to get a table. We were seated right away with menus, our orders for both drinks and meals were not taken until 10 to 15 minutes later. This should have been a sign that the service was going to be slowwww. Our drinks came out within 5 minutes, which was the quickest thing of the night. The majority of our group ordered burgers, which should be a fairly quick meal to prep. Four of our ten meals where delivered about an hour and fifteen minutes after we were seated, the next four came fifteen minutes later. Apparently two of them were completely forgotten and not even cooked- which meant an even longer delay. The meals all had the potential to be delicious, if only a little effort was put in. All of the fries were cold, orders were messed up, hamburgers were missing toppings... and they worst part? The burgers were extremely under cooked. Four of the burgers were ordered as Medium Well, and came out rawer than rare- disgusting (see my photos). They were somewhat edible, but one burger was so raw, that we had to send it back (with the slow service, it wasn't even replaced). The waiter was apologetic, blaming the delay on a server not showing up to work. Clearly this was a problem in the kitchen. It was shocking to me that the manager on duty made no attempt to apologize. I finally asked to speak with her (Brianna), and was baffled in her lack of professionalism. During my conversation with the manger, she kept doing menial tasks and would not talk to me directly. After I asked her to adjust the bill, she had to call another manager, who offered a 35% discount. I asked for the raw burger that was sent back to be taken off and was rudely told no. I asked to speak to the manager on the phone myself, and was again rudely told no. Finally the hotel manager (Chasity) on duty become involved, and was the complete opposite of Brianna. She was professional and kind, and delivered the kind of service that I would expect. Chasity helped us remove the raw burgers, split the bill, and apply the 35% discount to everything. I am disappointed in the service and meal I received here, but even more disappointed that a great brand like Marriott would let themselves be associated with such a horrible place.

I came here to meet my sister for her lunch break. She commented that we should pick our food quickly because generally the food takes awhile to come out. We ordered immediately and it didn't take too long. I ordered the Ahi Tuna Wrap (maybe it was mahi mahi?) and it was great. I opted to get the sweet potato tots as a side and it was a good addition. If i'm in the area and meeting my sister for lunch I would definitely come here again. Food is affordable, delicious, and the atmosphere is nice.

While on a conference in Baltimore, we decided to meet a colleague who was staying in the residence inn and she suggested the hotel restaurant. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a terrible suggestion. First of all, on a cold rainy night, you don't want to walk into a restaurant to have dinner, only to find out you have to keep your jackets on because it is colder inside than outside!! Secondly, even though there were like two other customers, the service was excruciatingly slow. I decided to order a crab soup to get warm and a blackened tuna wrap, both of which were awful. The soup tasted like canned crushed tomatoes mostly and I was not warned that it was going be spicy. The tuna was super cold and grossly under seasoned. The wasabi aioli was watery and kept spilling everywhere and it was quite tasteless. All in all, a bad experience. I would have enjoyed a subway more!

What an utterly disappointing experience! The only reason I am even giving this restaurant a review is due to the politeness of our understanding server. It was so difficult for me to even give this establishment(not that it's established) a star. My friends and I (a party of 10) chose to eat at this restaurant on a Saturday evening, upon which we entered around roughly 6:10 pm. It was difficult for us to find a place to seat is quickly, due to the Ravens playoff game, but we were quite surprised to be sat down almost immediately. Barely half the restaurant was seated so our odds for quick service were looking up, wrong! After being seated, neither of the servers could figure out how to work the TV screen to get the Ravens game on, leaving the devoted fan in our party highly disappointed. Our orders were taken pretty quickly, at about 6:20. This is where things took a turn for the worst... Since we had 10 people in our party we were prepared to give our server both our drink and meal orders. He seemed very confident, a little rushed, but very kind. We were served our drink at about 6:45. We ordered 10 waters, 2 beers, and 1 glass of wine. Not difficult. Well we sat, and we waited, and we waited. FINALLY at about 730 the first few meals came out, 4 total. Fries were cold, sides and toppings were missing, and hungry waiting diners were sorely disappointed. About 10 minutes later the next 4 meals came out, of which fries were cold, avocados were browned, and sides were missing. Then we came to find out that the kitchen cooked 1 burger wrong and forgot the other(mine). As we waited for the those 2 meals and other began to eat, we came to find that all our 'medium-well' burgers were PINK! When I say pink, I mean way past rare and all the way to barely defrosted and still mooing. Absolutely disgusting! (See my pictures) Finally the last 2 came out, which you'd expect to be perfect by this point, but they were the rarest of them all. I didn't even eat my dinner. Finally, my friend decided to speak up and deal with the matter. The restaurant blamed it on a missing server, but last time I checked the servers aren't the ones cooking the food. And for the record, I was in the restaurant industry for 6 years and at a banquet of over 200 people we had bread out in 5, salad out in 10, meals out in 20. Granted we had like 10 servers, but that's still 20 people to a server, that's double out dining party. My friend was finally able to negotiate a deal with the hotel manager, after the restaurant manager had an attitude about the entire situation. As we left with comped and discounted meals, I noticed that others diners in the restaurant did not look pleased either. We were just happy to finally leave after spending 2 hours and 15 minutes in that restaurant and get on with our evening. Oh, and did I mention that it was my birthday? Happy birthday to me!

Good bar food. Tator tots with bacon cheese and ranch were a hit. As were the chicken wings. Adults and kids were happy. Happy hour 4-7 too. Hope to catch that one day. Guinness blonde on tap was pretty good.

The new menu is amazing. I'm in town for 2 days and this is third time I've eaten here. Best crab cakes I've had in the harbor. The turkey burger with sautéed spinach, roasted red peppers and goat cheese is amazing, never tasted anything like it. Great atmosphere for lunch or dinner, friendly staff, good music...love this place! read more

I was very disappointed in this restaurant. First the service was poor. We ended up waiting for forever to get our drinks and for them to take their order. When we looked at them they were on their phones and talking to each other. I ordered the crab ravioli...HORRIBLE CHOICE! $23 later to get literally 5 ravioli that was filled with onions, red pepper, and maybe(?) puréed crab meat? I'm not sure because I couldn't taste it. I would never go here again. read more

This afternoon, my colleagues and I [Black] visited 17 Light restaurant for lunch, and we were all racially profiled. Everyone [all white] who entered the restaurant were seated, given menus, and were served their orders before our table. And when we spoke to the waitress, she talked down us condescendingly as if we didn't belong. Black people and people of color are not welcomed in this establishment. read more

After a day spent in Baltimore, we wanted to find a good restaurant for dinner, so we decided upon this one connected to our hotel. We came in and didn't get our menus until 10 minutes later. Food was overpriced for the quality, and the waiters didn't pay attention to the customers. After waiting around a while, we finally got the attention of a server to order. Then... the wait. Almost an hour. Ridiculous considering there were maybe about 2 other tables in the restaurant at the time. When the food finally came out, the stuff was mediocre at best. Crab cakes were $28 for two little patties, burger was dry and bland and i paid $2 extra for two little slices of avocado, and the crab soup was a joke. Everything else was just okay, but not good enough for a legitimate restaurant. Not once did the servers check in on us, apologize for the wait, or ask about the food. We had to flag them down when we needed something. If you want a nice meal before spending time in Baltimore. this is NOT the place. read more

Came here for lunch with co-workers. The service was VERY SLOW. The waitress/bartender never refilled drinks or came to check on the our table. The crab dip was very good, the salad was okay and the pit beef sandwhich was very good. I doubt I will return. read more

Well don't expect to much from this restaurant - it is a in a hotel and the food is mediocre at best. I had the ahi tuna wrap and the wrap was so stale I thought it was left out for 2 days. The bartender was friendly and attentive - that was the only reason for the second star. read more

First off they didnt honor their own restaurant dot com gift cert (I have used these gift cards at 10 restaurants in the past 3 months, 2 in Baltimore, and this is the first place to not stick to what the coupon says). The gift cert said it covered alcohol and the waiter said it was wrong, so our plan of having 2 drinks and two appetizers turned into 2 drinks and 4 appetizers we couldnt finish. So we ordered 35 bucks worth of appetizers and had 2 of the worst long islands I have ever drank (and I have had alotta bad ones). The buffalo wings were good, nothing special; the loaded tator tots were also good, nothing special; the petite crab cakes tasted too crabby/fishy as in they either used imitation crab meat or not fresh crab, both routes are unacceptable for a city known for its crab. The crab dip was also too fishy tasting. All in all I would not return, not for their mediocre to sub par food, nor for their awful quality liquor (I asked for a top shelf long island offering to pay the difference, they said they dont make those there). I will say this though, we had the most attentive waiter I have ever experienced. He came by literally every 2 minutes asking how everything was, to the point that it was almost annoying. But at least the service is great. read more

I had the Salmon. Everything was perfect. I ate the whole thing when I was supposed to save half. Our service was professional, freindly and timely. The server, Joe, was knowledgeable about other attractions in the area. We took his advice and had a great time! read more

The bar and its Staff (Joe) were great on Saturday staying open for our group during the city wide curfew. The wedding guest had great drinks and service when we thought we might be out of luck with closings. Thanks for accommodating so many out of towners and making this weekend a little more memorable. read more

3.5 stars. Decent spot for lunch if you work or happen to be downtown. Been there twice now. The waitress was honest and said that the tuna was frozen, so I got the steak salad, not bad. My second experience was better. Got the crab soup, won't get it again. I also got the turkey burger with the sweet potato tater tots, winner winner chicken dinner. Darn tasty, goat cheese, spinach and roasted red peppers on a turkey burger with a good bun. I'd go back and get the turkey burger again. read more

This review is about the tuna appetizer, the crab soup and the crab cakes specifically. I did not like any of them actually and that's sad because I was told to try these sorts of things around where I was staying. They don't stay open very late considering they are in a hotel, and in the Inner Harbor. The wait staff is not that friendly and the food is a bit overpriced for what you do get. I had asked for some additional components to my order and I did not receive them. The tuna was seared (which is suppose to be just this outside flaming sorta deal) but you can order the tuna well done if you want. I went for rare and apparently the cut wasn't a good cut of fish as I kept running into grisle(?) I had imagined the tuna would have come sliced up and ready to eat but it came in its cooked steak form instead and was just really hard to eat. The crab soup tasted like campbell's veggie with some crumbled crab thrown in. The crab cakes I had asked for this butter sauce with and that's the portion of the order that was skipped or forgotten. I didn't see anything else on the menu I would be dying to try so I doubt that I would be going back in the future. And the wine was overpriced and there was no happy hour :-( (and I thought someone mentioned people go here for the whole sports bar feel??) read more

Bad experience on a Saturday night. Waited over 10 mins to be greeted after seating ourselves (2 of us). Only 10 people sitting in the restaurant for dinner with two bartenders/waitresses. Waited well over 5 minutes with an empty beer. Should have noticed 2 of the 5 guest tables went to the bar to ask for drink refills and silverware. The pasta primavera was tasteless with frozen shrimp on top (and my wife is not a picky eater at all). She took 3 or 4 bites and couldn't eat anymore of it. I had the crabcake sandwich. Being from Maryland I expected it to be decent. It would have been ok but it was refrigerated cold throughout the middle. The mini crabcake appetizer was good (appropriate temperature and good taste). Slow service and bad food. Only positive thing was that the waitress took our meals off the bill after seeing that we ate less than 1/4 if our entrees. read more

Just ate there yesterday. The bar staff (bartender/waitress) was not very friendly. It seemed like they were doing us a favor by serving us. No smiles, No greeting, and No kids' menus. The menu they do have though, makes your mouth water. So we ordered food to-go hoping it was better than the staff, but was a little disappointed. We ordered the Chicken Parm and their signature Pit Beef sandwiches, both avg at best. We specifically asked the Bartender whether the Jalapenos Bacon Mac&Cheese was pre-mixed with Jalapenos. His answer was NO, so we ordered a bacon Mac&Cheese with NO Jalapenos for my 2 year old. Opening it up in our hotel room, we realized that they gave us Jalapenos in the Mac&Cheese and No Bacon. REALLY!!!!?? We went back to return it to get a refund, but they could not even do that right! There was no manager or authority on duty, so we weren't able to get a refund on the card right away. The bartender offered to replace the order, but since the original order took 25 minutes, we did not try to re-order anything. The staff could care less! Their solution was "come back tomorrow". WHAT A JOKE!! read more

One would think with everything listed here, this would be one juicy veggie burger PACKED w/ flavor. Nope. Not the case. It wasn't a bad burger but it needed a lil more attention. The patty itself was ... DRYYYY *cough cough*. Don't need another black bean burger here. 2b) The Chicken: Crispy (or grilled) w/ cheese, lettuce & tomato. The bestie enjoyed his sandwich. It was a decent size and he enjoyed the flavor profile so... SCORE!!! We also split an other of the Large Tater Tots. It was a generous sizing and did what they needed to do. Nothing bad. Nothing great. Just flavorless tater tots - crispy outside, pillow like inside. They weren't even dusted w/ salt but... I digress. Overall, I can say I've been. For the price paid, I can't say if I'd return. Maybe other locations season/ flavor their dishes a little more. I dunno...

I ordered a double cheeseburger (customized my way), and fries, and my total was about $15. I think that's fairly average these days, on top... it was actually good. Like there was a ACTUAL cheese pull when you bit into the burger. It was HOT and fresh when I took the wrapper off my burger; just overall, gave an actual grill taste. As other reviews stated, the business provides plastic, paper, and overall disposable utensils and plates and when I'm back at Cross Street, I know exactly where I'm going to get a burger, a beer - and probably some onion rings now, now that I know they're a fan favorite!

It felt like her father was giving us his blessing from beyond the grave. The oysters were phenomenal. The crab cake was amazing. The local beer was perfect on a hot day. Then it came time to pay. We were horrified when the waitress came back with the gift card and told us it was expired. Expired? There is no expiration date printed on it which means it is legally valid indefinitely. She explained that they changed POS systems since the card had been purchased (again, by my fiancé's late father before he was taken by cancer) and that the new system did not recognize it. "Sorry, there's nothing we can do." No offer to grab a manager to see if a portion of the meal could be comped. Just $100 spent by a dearly departed that Thames St Oyster House does not have to answer for. A very tender moment ruined by poor customer service. They've lost 3 repeat customers.
