We had dinner at 1898 Public House on May 3rd with two other couples to celebrate an anniversary. Three of us ordered the Seafood Scampi on linguine. The dish came out with pasta that looked like Top Ramen noodles. They were dry and stuck together. There were three prawns, three tiny scallops and one small piece of crabmeat in the dish. If you're going to offer a seafood dish, I would think you would put some seafood on the plate. Especially at $40! We were very disappointed. read more

My wife got a fish that was cold and father in law got a cold fish also. They took it back and came back again with a cold fish. They did not offer a discount of any kind. Very inconsistent. Had some bad experiences in the past which were addressed by managers. Subsequently had some good meals. Tonight was another terrible experience. Went for my wife's birthday with a family member. 2 of the 3 meals were fine but my $66 filet ordered med rare was well done. I rarely send back food but this was beyond overdone. Second steak finally came out and was worse than the first. Charred black one side one side and I don't think it was even a filet with the amount of fat in it. Was cooked well done not even close to med rare. Manager came to table and apologized which was appreciated but didn't make up for ruining our celebration. I ordered a burger to replace the steak since it was obviously futile to try a 3 rd time. Burger was supposed to be med but I found they can cook med rare because that's how it was cooked. Still had a funky char taste too. The manager comped a dessert for our troubles. I'm not looking for a free meal and frankly I'm tired of complaining to managers about my bad experiences. I just want a decent meal and am more than willing to pay for it. Unfortunately 1898 misses the mark. I'm tired of having to complain and giving another chance. We had a lovely time here! We shared the baked feta. Winner. I had the frutti di mare (seafood and pasta). It was so delicious! A little bit spicy. The sauce is phenomenal. My husband really enjoyed his coconut margarita and the filet mignon. Very nice atmosphere. Good service. I would recommend making reservations. read more

Our family meets here for dinner and drinks about every 2-3 weeks. We love the seasonal fresh menu as well as the regular dining fare. We ALWAYS make a reservation though as they can be unexpectedly busy at times. We usually arrive an hour to 30 minutes prior to our reservation time and enjoy drinks at the bar or just get seated early. The staff are polite and always have a smile. We think the variety of dishes lends to the diverse crowds that enjoy dining here. You can have a delicious and reasonably priced burger to Osso Bucco that is still very reasonably priced. Not to mention delicious. Their steaks are grilled to perfection, always. The seafood is fresh and prepared delectably. Made reservations for Thanksgiving day dinner 5 weeks prior to Thanksgiving. When we showed up at 2 p m, we were told it would be a while as they had double booked. What? Why make a reservation. There must have been about 40 people waiting with no where to sit. When we were finally seated about 30 minutes later, we then had to get in a line for the buffet which took about 25 minutes to get through. It was so crowded, loud, people standing in line by our table watching us eat. It was ridiculous. I was so looking forward to this experience and it was terrible. Every time we visit 1898, we receive excellent service and great food! Our visit on Sunday March 10th was no exception. Our server, Bailey, was very friendly, helpful, and prompt. The kale and brussel sprout salad was amazing as usual, and the wine selection is great. We love the Barrister Cabernet Franc! We always get to sit by the window and look out over the golf course and surrounding hills. Whether a special occasion or just an everyday lunch, this is always our first choice. We try to choose an off time that they're not super busy as 1898 can be a popular spot during weekend dinner times. We will keep coming back! read more

Service and setting were great! I got the kale brussels sprout pine nut salad. I was disappointed because the kale was not cut up in smaller pieces (nor massaged) so there's this huge puffball of kale on the plate...it's a treasure hunt to get to the other ingredients. I round order it differently next time and ask them to massage the kale (to reduce size) or cut in much smaller pieces so it doesn't take over the plate. I want to start by saying I have been a fan of 1898 for many years. But over the last several years it has gone down hill. It appears that they change the menu way more than they should. The original menu was fantastic. We came here with a party of 13 for an after event from a funeral (now we had wished we went to Twigs). The service started out great, but that was short lived. They took our drink and food order and all was well until.... Our waitress never came back to ask if needed refills or more drinks. Someone in our party had to find our server who was talking to a co-worker. This was at 4pm and they were not busy. We got our next order of drinks in and refills and was told our food would be out shortly. First all the kids who ordered cheeseburgers got grilled cheese. Next my salad which I specifically asked for different dressing came out with the original dressing. My order is a little different as I am Celiac, so it should have been easier to get right. They were apologetic and said they would fix it. My salad came out the exact same way but with the right dressing on the side but the original dressing still all mixed in! By this point I am upset as everyone else is eating, except for someone else who didn't get their cheeseburger. My kids and an adult who usually eat everything hardly ate their burger. Finally on the 3rd try they got my salad correct. People also asked for sides of condiments and that took forever to receive. Not that we were looking for anything to be comped, they didn't offer anything and our server said they were so sorry they have NEVER had this happen (ya right!). My kids all left hungry and we took them to McDonald's. 2 people who had burgers ended up in the bathroom 10mins within being home. The food overall was not great like it used to be. We had an amazing dinner. There were four of us and each had something different. The only person not overjoyed with their meal was my husband. He ordered the pork chop. He said it tasted great but was overcooked. If he ordered it again he would specify that it be cooked to a medium. He loved the sides and the Lemon Bar. I ordered the Filet Mignon and it was amazing. We went for Saturday Brunch. We did have reservations. Service was a bit slow although the restaurant was not very busy. It took a good while to get our drinks and food. The server did not check back on our needs so getting hot sauce for our breakfasts, coffee and Tea refills were done only after we flagged down another server and asked for help. We went for Happy Hour (4-6pm everyday) and sampled quite a bit of the menu. It was pretty good; the calamari, pretzel braid and ahi poke tuna were my favorites. The lobster corn dog was mushy inside and the crab bruschetta was just really heavy and full of mayonnaise. We'll try the restaurant again and order some different apps to get a different perspective. The view on the patio was beautiful! We've gone back several times and every time the happy hour menu has changed, the prices have gone up significantly since they first opened and the food options are less tasty. This time the calamari was limp and swimming in oil, the "Kung pao" shrimp didn't have any flavor, the brisket sliders were too fatty to eat, and the pretzel bites were WAY better as a pretzel loaf; not sure why they changed them. We've been 4 times in the past year and repeatedly have had below average service. Drinks are forgotten, the server doesn't come back to check in, etc. While the tuna stack is great and one of my favorite appetizers in town, it's not enough to drive all the way up there for, considering the other happy hour options are really sub-par. Playing the course is a nice experience, I just wish eating at the restaurant was more enjoyable. We likely won't be back to eat. read more

Loved this spot! We came here for my mom's birthday and ordered the ahi tuna appetizer and the bruschetta. Both were amazing!! I ordered the raviolis and they were amazzzzing. My mom ordered the seared scallops, which she graciously let me try, and they were also amazing. My boyfriend was there as well, he ordered the fish and chips but they were just mediocre. We came during happy hour on a Sunday, so it was a bit empty in there and the service was fast. We got a bottle of wine for the table, and it of course was amazing! My mom received a birthday sorbet for her birthday, raspberry, also delicious. The best part about this place is the setting! Right on the golf course, it's very relaxing and beautiful. read more
