What a fantastic spot! We visited for Christmas Eve; the space was so uniquely decorated not just for the holidays but also their usual decor. The steak frites was to die for, perfectly cooked to my liking and the chimichurri on top was such a nice touch! The green beans were unbelievable and I would have just eaten a plate of them alone! The salmon my family member has was apparently lovely, and the scallops were "the best dish I have had in months" per my (slightly picky) father. We sat in the back room, and walking through the labyrinth of the restaurant, we got to see the various nooks and crannies of this lovely establishment. Service was great, and everything was brought out within a timely manner. While it was clear our server was busy, we felt as if we were her only priority and that's not an easy thing to do during a busy holiday season! Will be coming back to visit. read more

I am truly disappointed to write this review, but our experience on Saturday, December 6th was one of the worst ever, and ruined my wife's birthday experience. We opted to dine at 1928 based on the number of positive reviews, and were thrilled to get a reservation, even though it was for 9:15 pm, later than we wanted to eat. We informed the management we were there to celebrate my wife's birthday, having driven in from New York the day before. When we arrived around 9:00 pm, we were told that our table was almost ready, and that the people at that table were finishing their desserts, and should be leaving soon. By 9:55 pm, we still were waiting for our table, having been told that the people had finished their desserts and were leaving soon. We were seated at 10:00 pm. No apologies from the management for the wait. Nada,. Things only got worse. After perusing 1928's wine menu, I ordered a bottle of Red wine for $95.00. When our waiter came back a few minutes later to take our orders, we were informed that the kitchen was closing, and we needed to get our order in. Now we felt rushed to order, even though we had been there for well over an hour. The food came, which was ok, but at that point, we were beginning to feel we had made a huge mistake coming to 1928, as the vibe of the evening felt ruined. When our meal wrapped up, the waiter brought the check, like they wanted us out of the restaurant, as it was nearly empty by this point. No offer to provide my wife with a birthday dessert, which was the icing on the cake. I am still amazed how the management of this "5 star" restaurant can be so insensitive to its guests, especially with reservations and those celebrating events. Why even bother making a reservation when it literally means nothing, and the management fails to say anything about the 45 minute delay in seating us? Or picking this restaurant to celebrate a special occasion, when they do absolutely nothing to recognize it (trust me, we didn't need a free desert). read more

This action could only have been purposeful. The establishment is trying desperately to appeal to an under 30 crowd (which probably works for them). Up until last night, I had only grabbed a drink at the bar. Last night was my first dining experience at 1928 - and let me tell you, it was sublime. From the moment you walk in, you are transported to another place and time. The interior offers cozy and intimate aura that is perfect for date night. The tables are close to one another though so it can feel a little crowded but that didn't bother us. The service was impeccable. Warm, friendly and attentive. Drinks and food (although almost too pretty to eat) checked all the boxes! We started with the arancini app was amazing and was the item we enjoyed the most during the evening. I had the fried cauliflower app and the Spanish octopus app for dinner. Both were YUM but perfected the cauliflower. My boyfriend had the burger and loved it. A few girlfriends and I had dinner at 1928 Beacon Hill on a Tuesday night before a show in the theater district. The vibes inside are very fun and made for a great atmosphere for a girls' dinner. We started with the jerk chicken meatballs, and roasted shishito peppers/cauliflower. Both were really good, but the meatballs were melt-in-your-mouth amazing. For entrées, we did short ribs, scallops, and butternut squash ravioli. Our food was taking a little bit longer than expected, so the chef offered to send us out another appetizer, the pork belly, that was also delicious. All of the food was really, really tasty with unique flavor combinations. All of our plates were clean at the end of the meal. We could not leave without having dessert so we ended upon the key lime pie and the chocolate mousse. The key lime pie was so light and had a whipped consistency - so delicious. We had a steak frites and swordfish for entrees. The swordfish came out slightly overcooked. We asked to cook it a little more. It wasn't an issue for us at all! The server took it off the bill and offered us a free dessert. Then the manager heard about it and took the steak off as well! I was happy to be back...my second visit and dinner....have been to the bar numerous times. The evening was extrememly pleasant, not for the food, but due to the wonderful waiter Tristan....he saved the experience because the food was extremely disappointing. We shared the calamari as an appetizer as well as the Shishito peppers. nothing was good....the calamari was miniscule pieces so deeply battered, way too fried and mostly thats all you ate. I expected large rings, bellies and a light wonderful batter, almost like tempura. The peppers were miniscule as well and served with cauliflower and some white sauce....nothing I would ever want again. The 3 large scallops were fine, albeit costly for what one got....served with what seemed like a ragout of trumpet mushrooms..not very attractive as a plate. Cocktails were fine as was the lovely bottle of Sancerre. As mentioned, Tristan was the star of the night. I may return someday for a drink at the bar, but thats where it will end. read more

I loved the vibes in here, the restaurant is beautifully decorated and the some of the plates have really pretty designs. My friends got drinks (pornstar martini and the 1928) and they both thought their drinks were really good. Though they are a bit pricey. I had the steak frites which was cooked to my preference (medium rare). The chimichurri sauce on top was delicious. The crème brûlée we had afterwards was perfectly burnt. First the food wasn't all that great you can see the eggs Benedict was very overcooked and the presentation was so underwhelming and it was $19 for the eggs Benedict and the 2 spears of asparagus. And the pancakes were also a bit underwhelming and the presentation of all the food was sad--not even a piece of fruit as a garnish. And when she asked for butter they brought chunks of cold butter that was too cold to melt. Maybe some whipped butter at least? The food came out in long gaps. One person's breakfast potatoes came to the table after she finished her meal as did someone else's order of sausage. We had to ask for refills of coffee. 1928 was such a wonderful experience! I came here for a birthday dinner, and every single item we ordered tasted amazing. The service was wonderful, they were kind and friendly, and we didn't wait too long for food (as you might in other very upscale restaurants). The ambiance was very fancy and gorgeous, the seven of us kept gushing about the decor, lighting, materials, etc. I split the burrata, crab cakes, and tuna tartare for the appetizers - everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. All of their menu items are easily recognizable from bolognese, crab cakes, to clam chowder. With that being said, I was impressed with all the food I had here and would recommend each dish but a special shout-out to the crab cakes and clam chowder. We had an entirely exceptional dining experience on Sunday night. From the minute we walked in and were warmly welcomed. Each staff person was professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Katherine, our server, guided us through the various courses with ease and smiles. And she was extremely patient as it took us forever to even look at menus we were talking so much! Never felt rushed. Everything was so comfortable and well timed. Danny, server assistant, was lovely, prompt with waters, serving dishes, clearing and keeping the table perfect. Jay, manager, came by multiple times asking about the various courses and delivering a true sense of concern and commitment to the establishment. Ian, bartender, handled the absolutely amazing cocktails, that I think he might have developed from an extremely creative and varied libations menu. Oh and the FOOD! Wow, wow, wow. There should be 10 stars. We began with lamb lollipops, lobster nuggets and arancini. Each diner had a different entree: filet mignon, shrimp scampi, scallops, swordfish and halibut and all were beautifully presented, generously portioned and superbly prepared. I could have eaten an entire plate of the amazing side dish of Mac & cheese. Cauliflower and mushrooms also spot on accompaniments. To complete this gastronomical symphony we enjoyed olive oil cake and sticky pudding with port and an unusual espresso martini made with tequila. The menu says "Trust Us". The menu wasn't too exciting, but the deviled eggs were spectacular. Unfortunately the spinach & artichoke dip was under-seasoned. The chocolate cake is delicious and shouldn't be skipped if you can afford the calories.
