However, people have lives and schedules just like they do as a business. When we had to finally replace our 23-year-old AC units, I started doing research and reviews of the most reliable system and reviews of HVAC companies. After a few weeks I narrowed it down to three companies and to the Trane / American Standard brands. A co-worker had recommended Manny from 1st Choice Plumbing, Air & Insulation. I contacted Manny and scheduled a consultation with him along with the other two companies. Manny came over and inspected our current systems, and we discussed options and things that he recommended. We really appreciated his experience and knowledge; he brought up some things that other AC companies did not which made us feel as though he was putting our best interest in mind. After some time, we chose to contract 1st Choice for our AC system replacement, choosing the Trane 17 SEER systems. Soon the day of installation came, and we received notification from two different crews when they were on their way (Jose & Kevin). The guys arrived and after a walk through they got started on their work. With a total of five guys working together, they were very respectful of our home, wearing booties in the house and using drop cloths and masking off with plastic our entire laundry room where the attic scuttle hole was located. All the technicians were very polite and professional in their work. Being in the residential trades all of my adult life (almost 40 years) I can tell when people are working for a check and people who truly care about their work and take pride in their work, and all five of the technicians with 1st Choice are all ones that take pride in their work. They were very efficient and completed the installation, clean up and start-up by 2 pm. Jose walked me through the systems, the new t-stats and assisted me getting it set up on the app for my phone. Jose mentioned it could take up to a day to get the systems to fully cool down the house, but by 6 pm we had the house cool down to 71. After the guys left, I went up into the attic to inspect their work and found it cleaner than when they started, the walking platforms were clean of all the dust and the work they did was top notch! Everything level, secure and organized with care, no trash or screws left behind. This is the kind of work that builds a company and makes for a great future! Tim, owner, is amazing, (more than) fair, timely, excellent communication, friendly and knowledgeable. Tim spent 3.5 hours with me trying to diagnose the cause for my AC not working. It turns out that when I changed the batteries and reinstalled the thermostat, I didn't align all the pins correctly (even he had tla little challenge doing it). Therefore, the thermostat wasn't sending enough voltage to the blower to power it on. Once the thermostat was pushed in correctly with all pins aligned, the AC works again! He didn't even charge me at all, even after I insisted. How many companies will do that these days?? ZERO...They would insist you buy a new blower, condenser, etc. for $Thousands of Dollars. Please bear with me as I start with some background. I moved into my 2000 sq. ft. home 8 years ago. When summer arrived I immediately became aware I had an air conditioning problem; sky high bills and the unit never cooled the house below 81°, some rooms to only 84 or 85°. After reviewing my issue with a known HVAC I had used before I replaced the system. My APS bill dropped from $550 to $250. Great. The indoor temperature was reasonable at 78° in most of the home. However, two bedrooms were typically above 84° during the summer months. As my daughter occupied one of the "hot" bedrooms. Fans helped, but never solved the problem. Over the 8 years I called in 4 different contractors, including the HVAC company that had replaced my unit. These companies all had the perfect fix. These fixes included upsizing attic supply ducts to the "hot" rooms, installation of passive transom registers, and even a electric transom register to pull hot air from the "hot" bedroom. None of these fixes worked. One technician even said, "this is Arizona, what do you expect". Well, I didn't expect a miracle but I did expect my financial investment would at least provide some limited relief. Recently on a 112° day, my A/C died at 8 PM. I searched for a contractor that could respond immediately. An online search brought me to 1st Choice Mechanical. A technician arrived in 23 minutes. I was lucky as he immediately found a fuse had failed. The fuse was replaced, he checked the now operating unit and asked if I had any other issues. I told him, Manny, about my "hot" room issue. Manny headed into the very hot attic, spent 45 minutes evaluating all the ductwork and came up with yet another solution. His evaluation determined I needed a second return register on the "hot" side of my home. He took the time to explain why this new solution would work in terms that I understood clearly, he made me a believer. A week later the new return vent and duct in the attic were installed by Manny of 1st Choice Mechanical. The result, all rooms and areas of my home, after 8 years of summer agony, are now cooling to 75° and my APS electric bill has dropped by $75 monthly. 1st Choice Mechanical is not only my first choice for HVAC service, it is now my only choice. From the great office staff to the friendly, knowledgeable field technicians they go the extra step to insure your satisfaction at an affordable price. We had a a full HVAC replacement with 1st Choice Mechanical in 2024. In the summer of 2025, it was discovered that the AC unit was not installed correctly by the installer, causing the pan to leak, and causing our ceiling drywall to cave in. Given that this happened, First choice was very responsive to what took place, they are currently taking care of everything that happened and have been very responsive to me and keeping me up to date with everything... The only thing I can really say is that their after hour answering service sucks, and that's putting it nicely. Outside of this event, I've always had a positive experience with their team! But I do have to mention it. Things happen in life, mistakes happen. Nobody got hurt, and 1st Choice is doing everything they can to make things right, so I can't fault them for that. I'd honestly still give them 5 stars if it wasn't for the after hours service that the owner is already scheduled to discuss with them. read more

I have been very happy with the A/C install that was done a month ago. I did have an issue with some peripheral property damage that was done while removing the trash from my property. The problem drug on too long before a resolution was reached which caused me to leave a poor review in which I made clear my issue wasn't with the A/C install, just the property repair. I now believe the a big part of the problem was miscommunication. That problem is now resolved satisfactorily. They just came out to do the 1 month check up and made some tweaks they felt were needed. While they were here, I had them replace the 30-year old water heater that came with the house. The installation brought everything up to current code. I would not hesitate to recommend 1st Choice Mechanical to anyone I know in need of the services they offer. read more

I'm seriously disappointed, you're supposed to be helping people, having no AC is AZ is no joke and you guys are coming out and creating false issues to profit off people. You're supposed to be the experts and we are supposed to trust you guys. So when you come out and climb in the attic and visually see duct work that is choked off or constricted I'm going to trust you, luckily I was smart enough to get a 2nd opinion, and the other company didn't only go up and visually see the duct work and state that there was no issues, but they also used a tool that measures the airflow coming out of each duct. I saw him take the time to walk up to each duct in the house and show me there was adequate airflow, why didn't you guys do that? I'm going to trust that tool more than just visually looking because with that tool he proved to me that I did have proper airflow, unlike what your company told me, and quoted $5,975.30 to repair an issue that wasn't there. Turns out it was just a leak and the only cost to repair is the labor and that's $1800. Paid you guys $50 to come out and you couldn't even fill up my Freon before leaving. Luckily the other company that came out was nice enough to do that, I'll be working with them and I'll be saving myself $7654. I was hoping to get help from you guys in a time of need, but got nothing but an outrageous estimate and you couldn't even turn the attic light off. The only thing honest was this review. read more

Initially reached out to schedule an AC tune up Oct 8th, which is over two months ago. Oct 31st I confirmed that there is a 10 year parts and 1 year labor warranty on the unit, as the unit is two years old. I was told that an appointment would get scheduled directly with the tenant. That did not happen and all of a sudden I was told that 1st Choice Mechanical could not help me. I called on December 2nd and was advised that they could help service the unit and that our tenant would get called to schedule an appointment. Now, two weeks later, nothing had been done and all I get is AI responses twirling in circles. Then I was asked about any warranties again. All I wanted was to get the AC unit serviced and not spend hours running after this to get this done. Very disappointing and frustrating experience. CanNOT recommend at this point. Timeline of Communication/Reply to Tim's Message: 10/08/25 - 1st Choice reached messaged me advising me of $49 special 10/10/25 - I replied saying I think we are all set. 10/10/25 - 1st Choice offered free second opinion 10/26/25 - I asked for price and availability. No reply. 10/30/25 - I reached out again asking for availability to have AC serviced 10/30/25 - 1st Choice confirmed $49 special asking what morning would work for us. 10/30/25 - I asked if they could schedule appointment with our tenant directly. Provided tenant's number and property address. 10/30/25 - 1st Choice asked this goes through owner or management company and I advised that we are the owner. They asked if we will be present and I advised that my husband's military career took us overseas, meaning we won't be present. 1st Choice asked about the age of the AC unit and I advised that it is two years old without any issues. 10/31/25 - 1st Choice asked about warranties in place and suggests to check. I advised that paperwork states 10 year parts warranty. 1st Choice suggests that there might be a labor warranty and I confirmed that there was a one year labor warranty on the unit. 11/03/25 - 1sr Choice says "Let's get you scheduled" and asks if we are available that day. I asked to please reach out to our tenant and provide her contact info again. 1st Choice tells me that they will reach out to her and ask for my name and number, which I provide and advise of the time difference between AZ and us. 11/13/25 - I reached out to 1st Choice to see if they contacted our tenant. 11/14/25 - 1st Choice states that they have not reached out to our tenant and that they are not able to help. 11/23/25 - I shared that I am confused and do not understand, asking for an explanation. No reply. 12/02/25 - I called and was advised that the job can be done and that it will get handled. 12/16/25 - I reached out asking for updates and only got AI replies telling me to call. After a while of back and forth I got a human reply confirming we have spoken in the past, stating to reach out to installer to check for warranties, so they don't void them and that 1st Choice could schedule for the beginning of the year. I replied voicing my confusion, since we had established the warranty situation. 1st Choice suggested to reach out to the original installer to ensure the 1 year labor warranty and 10 year parts warranty won't get voided (Keep in mind the unit is 2 years old, so the labor warranty has finished). They also asked why I am not using the installing company and advised that it could get done at the beginning of the year by 1st Choice. I replied that I was under the impression that this would get done weeks ago and advised that the installing company has not gotten back to us. Then it went back to AI replies. Came out quickly to address a problem with one of my air conditioners. Manny checked out the unit and told us it was because a sensor was blocked, simple fix. The next day the same issue with the unit occurred. I called them back, Manny returned and told us that the coil was leaking Freon. I'm surprised that he didn't check the refrigerant level the day before, I feel like thats pretty standard for a service call for an AC blowing warm air. Gave us the option of replacing the coil for 5k or entire unit replacement of 11k. I called another company who came out same day, repaired the AC unit properly, with a warranty for less than half of the coil replacement option Manny gave us. 1st choice was quick and available, but the service they offered was way overpriced and of questionable quality. read more

I have now had two encounters with 1st Choice Mechanical cooling-heating when it comes to my a/c unit (I have a split unit). My first experience with Manny was awesome. He was so impressive and professional, explaining everything and ensuring I had no questions, I fully understood all my options as well as what were some of the possibilities that could happen in the future since my system was over 10 yrs. Manny replaced my outside compressor and my condenser fan motor. I was so impressed with Manny I signed up for one of their service packages because I do a tune-up of my system before each season (summer/winter) to ensure my system was working fine. My second encounter was a total disaster, they scheduled my summer tune-up in March, I wanted Manny to be my tech, but they sent out someone else, his name was Preston Jones. Preston came in and introduced himself, stating that he was the technician's supervisor and was about to be promoted to regional sales manager. Preston proceeded to go to the attic to complete the tune-up (which normally consists of cleaning the coils, checking refrigerant levels, inspecting components, and ensuring the system operates efficiently). After some time, Preston came down from the attic and quickly told me he found corrosion and a leak in my coil, and stated I should replace the unit. In fact, he stated that since I had replaced my outside unit, he would have suggested replacing the inside unit to ensure the system was all basically new and issue-free because it is common for leaks to occur when you replace part of a system. He stated that was what they normally do and not replace a partial system. He stated that he was going to advocate on my behalf to get me the best price. He came back from the truck with a price (over 11k). I told Preston that I was not signing anything now and I would get back to him. I then proceeded to get other estimates from other companies, after getting many estimates and talking to many other technicians I started to realize that Preston never discussed nor showed me any of the data from his diagnosis of my system. No readings indicate system issues or leaks. After talking to many of the other techs, three of them stated they saw no indications of a leak and the coil had only very mild rust, which was normal. I did go up into the attic with one of the other techs and viewed the coil on my own, and I am very knowledgeable about corrosion being a retired Navy tech. They said the coils were only wet due to condensation and no oily residue which would be present if any leaking was present. I realized that Preston tried to mislead me by lying about my system just to make a sale. I confronted Preston with the results and the comments of the other techs, and now many things were said, I expressed that based on his actions I believed he had a predetermined agenda to sell me a new system whether I needed it or not, of course, he denied this. However, after many conversations and being persistent in expressing that I don't believe he completed the tune-up, his diagnosis changed from corrosion and a leak to erosion, and the possible potential of leaking is a big change from the beginning diagnosis. He still never suggested showing me any data of his tune-up diagnosis which I had another company come in a complete a tune-up. Afterward, we went over all the data and my numbers were great showing no leaks and showing my system was in very good condition. As a consumer, having been highly disappointed with this company, I write this Google review to inform those who are in the market for heating or air repair to do their total diligence check all reviews, and do your research because not everything looks as it seems. It has been a few years to write this but they are terrible. You can tell most of the reviews are completely fake too. We had a new AC installed about 2 years ago. When they came out an installed it, they said that the ductwork was fine and clean. After the install, I figured that the new unit would be able to cool an 1100 sq/ft home. Our home does not get below 73 in the summer during the day. They came back multiple times and blamed the insulation, so I used at the time their reference who completed the work. Only issue is it didn't change the ability to cool the home. They then said that it was because of ductwork issues. They just kept coming up with issues which cost more money. Would be more beneficial to do it right the first time and take ownership of the work. read more

So I post a review that you all had a time window from 10-12 and you contact me at 12:38. That's not good service. I am not an emergency. They we're hired to put in 3 limit switches and to stop the furnace fan from blowing continuously. Furnace was diagnosed from a previous HVAC company. 2 switches were bad, tech said to just put in 3 since they were 9 years old and FREE under warranty. We didn't hire that other company (MERLIN) because of nefarious actions by the first responding tech who told us we had a "major gas leak"... when we didn't, and then the general manager tried to extort money from us, after giving us reparations (thermostat 7 wire, capacitor) from the first egregiously nefarious lying psychopath tech, who tried to severely grift us. Police report and detective were needed. Second tech from Merlin was honest, and told us the truth because he was quitting his job, because of the actions from first tech, general manager and shady criminal business practices within the company. 1st Choice said they needed to diagnose the situation for $49.95, but they never gave us the RESULTS of diagnosis! First red flag. Our furnace blower fan would not turn off...it could literally blow for hours. We had to repeatedly turn off breaker at fuse box.. this WAS NEVER REPAIRED. It was like a creepy paranormal situation, it would not stop blowing. TORI the owner and office manager-deceived us for 2 months by NOT giving us ALL invoice receipts. Once we received them...that's when we saw that "James" only put in one limit switch and it was the one 350 amp switch to replace a 300 amp switch, that "just happened to be in his truck." It was not ordered through Goodman for warranty. The second time 1st Choice showed up, 2 mechanics were here to install 3 limit switches from Goodman. But didn't. Consequently, we were never shown those parts.. That's when they diagnosed that the Circuit board was bad. How come that wasn't found out during first diagnosis?? Had to wait 10 days for Circuit board to arrive from Goodman. At one point after Circuit board was installed and didn't fix problem, 1st Choice even abandoned us. Didn't return calls, so we shot them some emails..and then 2 weeks later Tori calls to tell us her son had broken his arm and leg by falling off of a swing and today was her first day back. Interesting, so no one else could give us any call backs or heads up as to why we're left in the dark with no heat? We had no adequate heat for 2 weeks...actually 3 months total. We paid for a second $49.95 diagnosis...where "Manny" found we needed a Flame Sensor and Gas Valve. He replaced those warranted Goodman parts, and the furnace fan STILL won't shut off! All our parts were free through warranty. The following parts were replaced: Thermostate 7 wire, capacitor (replaced by first company) 1 Roll out Switch, 1Control Board, 1Flame Sensor, 1 Gas Valve, 1Pressure Switch. The furnace fan was still not repaired, even after all those parts were installed and 1st Choice was now done with us! The problem still persists, but at least the A/C is working in this summer heat. We now have a home warranty and will deal with the furnace in the winter time. We received all of our money back, spent on labor. Throughout this infuriating ordeal, we repeatedly asked for Tim the owner to come and check out this frustrating situation. He was never interested enough to do so. Told he was "retired from the field", but yet we were also told he "was out in the field with one of his techs doing a ride along", one day. Heads up: James is also a "smoker" and he will use your property as an ashtray. We found cigarett butts in our pool, backyard, garden, front yard and on sidewalk where he parked van. Very unprofessional and disrespectful. He also accidentally dropped an old red coated limit switch in pool, and didn't tell us. It got stuck in vacuum that dragged it to the drain, were it was stuck, and we had to actually jump in freezing pool in March to unstick it from drain. Fun. read more

First Choice came over to diagnose an air conditioning problem. Their technician checked the unit and then went into our attic. After evaluating the issue, we were told that the problem was due to a "coil leak." The technician explained that replacing the coil would cost over $6,000, but that it would make sense to replace the entire unit. They then became very aggressive about scheduling a time to provide us with an estimate for a brand new A/C unit. Fantastic experience from beginning to end. I first requested service on a Sunday night. They got back to me first thing Monday morning and were at our house within a few hours. The initial reason for the call took some time to find but he did find it. Eventually, after looking at the problems, damage and state of everything, we decided to replace the A/C unit completely. We were scheduled immediately for the following week. The crew arrived on time and worked diligently to complete the project. They were fast and professional. They were also very nice to my young kids who tried very hard to get in their way. On top of the A/C replacement, they also did a duct cleaning. No dirt was left in the house.
