What an experience this place is! Such a treat! I didn't want to eat anywhere else in Savannah when we stayed at this Hotel the restaurant is in. It's that good! The farm to table is done remarkably well and the results are fantastic. The restaurant even changes the atmosphere from morning to dinner service. The food was so remarkable, I don't think I've ever eaten better in my life than when I ate here. Breakfast was eggs and sausage and home fries and everything was cooked to perfection and seasoned so well. Dinner was probably the best shrimp and grits I've ever had in my life with creamy, fluffy grits and plump, cooked to perfection shrimp that I like to imagine had just been caught that morning! Just ok. Was excited to read about a farm to table restaurant in Savannah but was underwhelmed by the food. Ordered the dinner special, a flounder fillet, that was crispy and delicious though served with a tired and withered up melange of very dry mushrooms. The best part of the dinner was the delicious bread--3 types, all made on site--with sweet butter and freshly ground pepper. Limited wine selections. Excellent service and very nice atmosphere. We took a while to order because we didn't know what we were in the mood to eat, but we are so glad we stayed to enjoy a good cocktail (1970), a charcuterie board, and a green chile pork dish! Seafood was really over-seasoned, while the vegetables were kind of bland. Entrees. Meats were nicely done. Tenderloin was tender and pink. Cage-free chicken was moist and crisp. Wonderful meal. We arrived knowing this was a restaurant in a hotel and having read the reviews of others. It's an interesting space... it felt like we were eating in the hotel lobby. And of course we are off-season, so it was practically empty, which often implies that it's not going to be very good. But that first impression couldn't have been further from the truth. The service was attentive without hovering, no smarmy "How does everything taste?" comments which really get under my skin. And each dish was delivered at just the right time. We started with fried green tomatoes, and the waiter also brought us a plate of sweet Amish bread with butter. Normally we shy away from bread but we finished all of it, it was so delicious. We finished all of the fried green tomatoes, too, and wiped up the tasty remoulade with the bread. Again, all of it was delicious. We ordered as our entrees to share the Brussels sprouts and the shrimp & grits. Both dishes were fantastic. The Brussels sprouts were roasted to perfection with apples, just the right amount of gruyere cheese, and topped with walnuts. The grits were deliciously creamy, topped with perfect shrimp and ham. The chef came out for a bit and we asked her how she got her grits so creamy, and she told us about the sheer quantity of cream involved. Thank goodness we weren't on a diet last night! An overall okay dinner with friends. My pork chop seemed to be very dry but not surprised for how thick the cut of meat was. My girlfriend's natural chicken was delicious and excellently seasoned. My group and I had a love hate relationship with the shrimp and grits, while the shrimp were amazingly seasoned we all hate plain grits for shrimp and grits entrees. But the bourbon pecan pie was amazing! I wish I had gotten two slices to go. Overall it was a mediocre experience with some highlights. read more

Came here for dinner with my husband while staying at the Andaz hotel! We came in on a Monday night with a brand new menu. The service was incredible! This place is tapas style, with small plates to share and a few larger entrees. We got the fried green tomatoes which were amazing! We also has the truffle ricotta toast which was the best item we had!! The flavor was incredible and you could tell that the ricotta was freshly made! We also had dates wrapped in bacon and stuffed with goat cheese, which were also yummy! To finish we shared a ribeye that came with smashed potatoes and a veggie. We visited 22 Square while in Savannah on St. Patty's weekend because many others places required a reservation or were just packed out. I saw the stars and thought it would be nice to sit down for a minute. I left not disappointed but feeling the place was a bit strange. First thing, I had to go to the restroom. This place is inside a hotel but didn't have its own restroom. I had to hunt down the hostess, walk around a hallway and unlock it with the key I was given. A bit odd but whatever. When I got back we ordered some cocktails. I got the Johnny Shot (or something) was pretty disappointed in mine but friends were decent. I won't fuss too much about this because it wasn't a poorly made cocktail, I just didn't like what I ordered. The Pineapple one was probably a B+. The menu layout was straight up confusing. It was broken down by food type (seafood, chicken, salad, etc.) and not by course (apps, salad, entree). Each dish had a letter beside it denoting the portion size. Unfortunately there was no large or entree size under the seafood section and the one steak was randomly broken out into its own category, making this menu seem really small and lacking. Between the three of us we went with the steak, quail and chicken. The steak was good but the asparagus and such was a bit bland and oily. It didn't really add to the steak or make you feel like you were eating a full meal. The quail was a mushroom marsala pasta dish with wheat pasta (wasn't expecting that) and heavy on the sauce. It had a good flavor but the wheat noodles gave sauce-based dish an unexpected turn. The chicken was fine, I guess. I don't regret the experience but I wouldn't go back unless a group wanted to do so. read more

We ate here a few times during our trip thru Savannah and glad we did. We sat at the bar and Scott was our bar tender. He was great, offered many menu choices for apps and dinner and made some kick butt drinks. We started with the pea humus which was the best we ever had. The bread side and butter all was too good so had Scott take that away rather fast. The peel n eat shrimp was among the best we ever had and the smoked trout and lamb chop was amazing. Again, the drinks were great and the food fresh. The bar crowd was nice and the overall atmosphere was excellent. We will return for sure. read more

I ordered the sweet potato gnocchi with pork belly and split the deviled eggs appetizer. I loved the pickled vegetables that came with the deviled eggs. The onions were tangy and sweet but not too strong. The green beans were my other favorite. The gnocchi was good but a little bit rich (I probably should have realized ordering a pasta dish with pork belly would be like this). I found this place on Yelp and it was very highly reviewed. I reviewed the menu ahead of time and was intrigued by many of the offerings. It looked like their dedication to local sourcing showed. I always appreciate a restaurant that sources locally. I started with the charcuterie plate which had 4 different meats and I enjoyed them all. There had been a cheese plate on the menu I saw online, but it wasn't on the menu the night I went which was I was a little disappointed in because what goes better with charcuterie than nice cheeses? I also had their signature gin and tonic which was spot on. For my entree, I had the hangar steak and fries with garlic aioli, and I added a side of brussel sprouts. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The fries were not very note worthy and there was a mountain of them. I would have preferred 1/3 as many fries and have them seasoned in any way to make them interesting. Just adding some sea salt and cracked pepper would have gone a long way. The aioli was pedestrian. My mom got the red snapper and she had no complaints, but she also is not much of a foodie either. My server, Emma, did a fantastic job. Her level of service was the perfect balance of attention without becoming intrusive. She made an excellent wine suggestion for me after I explained what I was looking for. At first I wasn't a huge fan of the wine, but it paired exquisitely with my meal and definitely added to my experience. Owing the the locally sourced ingredients and solid menu, I would try it again, but I don't think I would order the hangar steak again. If it was paired with a chimichuri and maybe vegetables or rice, I might order it again, but definitely not as the steak frites. Overall, I would say it is a good restaurant with many options that look good on the menu. They deserve credit for the local sourcing. I am a local in Savannah so I have the opportunity to frequent 22 Square often so this review is a compilation of at least 7 visits. First things first. THE COCKTAILS are incredible and artfully prepared with only the freshest mixes and the finest small batch liquors by their very talented bartenders. Their well vodka is better than others house vodka. If you are making reservations to eat at 22 Square Restaurant plan accordingly because you will definitely want to try 1 or even 3 of the pre prohibition craft cocktails. They make their own ginger beer and tonic! If you like Manhattans you need to try the East of Hudson-their award winning version of the classic Manhattan or try the original cocktail the Sazerac. You will not be disappointed. Having ate here multiple times I can tell you everything I've had has been delicious. Most if not all of the menu is locally sourced from the Savannah area. I always start my meal with a cheese and charcuterie plate. The sliced meats are always different and always tasty. Both plates are dressed with house made pickles, preserves, and bread. The Brooklet Georgia Chicken Risotto was rich and creamy and tasted great with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Every night the beef tenderloin is prepared a different way and on both occasions of ordering I fell in love. Pro tips. 1. If you are looking for a nice quiet date night dinner request the dining room. If not I suggest sitting at one of the high top community style tables near the kitchen prep table. Here you are very likely to enjoy a "foody" conversation with the Chef and possibly a treat from a local chocolatier. 2. If you are alone or you are looking for a quick dinner sit at the bar or the lounge area and order the The Ribeye Sandwich from the bartender. It is possibly the worlds best sandwich. There is other options on the bar menu like a hamburger and chicken wings but trust me the sandwich is THE BEST. 3. If you want to try their soon to be world famous Candied Bacon get to the bar before 7 because it will be gone soon after. CONS: Walking into a hotel for dinner or drinks when you aren't staying in the hotel is a little intimidating. I think a second door dedicated to the restaurant would help. The valets dress code is too casual and their attitude is very curt. read more

If you're just visiting or are lucky enough to actually live in beautiful Savannah, you need to experience this superb farm to table restaurant. The market fish of the day was fresh Atlantic swordfish - blackened and incredibly tender and flavorful. This was served with fresh whole green beans cooked el dente and perfectly seasoned along with whole roasted red potatoes. So simple and yet so amazingly delicious. Responsibly sourced and impeccably fresh quality ingredients meet chef creativity and skill creating magical cuisine. The Amish sweet bread with salted crust was also to die for. Hubby's filet mignon was reportedly wonderfully flavorful and cooked to perfection. Only wish we'd had room for the pecan bourbon pie - will definitely have to return. We had dinner her last night and it was phenomenal. We absolutely love the farm to table concept and all organic. We started with the cheese plate that comes with 3 cheeses, fruit, housemade bread crisps, and homemade blueberry preserves. The preserves were absolutely delicious and an awesome complement to the cheeses. My daughter had the cream of chicken noodle soup. It had chunks of fresh vegetables and chicken and was not at all heavy. She had to let us all have some because it was soo good. We then shared the Tenderloin with a bernaise sauce and egg that was accompanied by Kale and a Yukon potato cake. It was perfectly cooked. My husband had the meat and 3 tenderloin. It was also good but not as much as mine. We will definitely eat here again. read more

The fresh ingredients really comes through in their finished products. I enjoyed their crisply pork belly spinach salad to start along with their in house baked bread plate. As my entree, I had their butter pecan grouper atop a variety of well seasoned sautéed vegetables.
