We had a great dining experience tonight and I would give 22 Square an enthusiastic recommendation. The restaurant is a beautiful and comfortable space and much of the meal is prepared in sight. The meal started with some housemade pillowy crusty bread with a fantastic pepper butter. I had a small BLT plate, Burrata, arugula, fried green tomato, balsamic reduction and EVOO. The Burrata was creamy in the center and a nice contrast with the perfectly cooked fried green tomato. Kim had a kale and carrot Caesar salad that she really enjoyed. I had the housemade spaghetti Pomodora. It was spot on. The pasta was fresh and al dente and tossed with fresh cherry and canned pear tomato, fresh basil, garlic clove, and Parmesan. The portion size was exactly what I would hope for in a fine Italian restaurant. For dessert we shared a peach upside down cake, which featured a moist senwhite cake made with corn meal, caramelized peaches and sour cream. Chased with a pot of chamomile tea. The service was flawless. I look forward to visiting again the next time we are in town. read more

22 Square is a small cozy restaurant in the base of a hotel. The atmosphere is nice and decor is modern with seating arrangements suitable for couples up to medium sized parties. We had the Swine and Fowl and Kurobuta Pork Chop, both off the main menu. The pork chop was cooked perfectly and the dish was nice, if a little plain. The Swine and Fowl was a disaster, both the pork belly and chicken thigh were over cooked, and the collards were just okay. Overall a nice place for an early evening drink and an appetizer, the fried green tomatoes were good, but I won't be returning for a meal. read more

We had company from out of state visit and we took them to 22. Our server was spot on, friendly, attentive, excellent attention to our needs. Bread basket to start with salty butter, so delicious. Humus and veggie appetizer was delicious and light/refreshing. Salads were a tad simple and bland but none-the-less tasted great. The highlight of our night was 3 out of 4 people at our table had the duck breast entree. It was simply the tastiest, perfectly cooked duck breast I've ever had. No grizzle or tendons in the breast. Perfect for all of our table. The farm to table fresh experience works here. Locals and tourists should be flocking here instead of the terrible tourist traps downtown. I was very impressed with everything we ordered. We came 45 minutes before closing (thanks for dealing with us) and service was outstanding. We started with some drinks- although I cannot recall their names, they were strong and delicious. Next we ordered some appetizers, fried green tomatoes and pimiento cheese deviled eggs. both were a HUGE HIT, I honestly can't say which I preferred. Next came our main course, we had the truffled shrimp and grits... I don't even know where to start, I completed that dish alone and it was for the table. Hands down the best meal on the table. I ordered the natural chicken for myself, it was okay, the hummus and freekeh were delicious but I thought the chicken could've used some sort of sauce, it just seemed to be missing something honestly. The swine and fowl and the salmon were equally delicious. Everything was well prepare and packed with flavor. But, as I said before, the shrimp and grits is the real winner here. The bread is homemade and wonderful, it reminded me of eating a soft pretzel, texture and taste wise. Overall our service was great, she was very helpful and sweet even though we were there past closing. The chef came out and talk to us for a decent amount of time which was really lovely. Stopped in to 22SQ lobby bar after attending the menorah lighting for Chanukah in Ellis Square. Being that it was a Monday evening, there was not much happening, but the bar looked inviting and bartender/mixologist Billy invited us to take a seat, so, being thirsty, we obliged. The bar is located directly to the right of the main entrance to the Andaz Hotel, and it exudes a comfy vibe, though the lights could be turned down just a tad more. Billy presented us with cocktail menus, and we really were pleased with the creativity of what we were reading. Being a guy who loves his rye, I opted for the Going Down Proper. It sounded interesting, and Billy assured me it would not be too sweet. Upon may first sip, I have to say it was one of the most interesting libations I have ever tasted. . . and I really liked it. The Underberg listed in the description is a German almond liqueur; I have never encountered it before. Even better, the presentation of the cocktail wins points because the emptied mini-bottle of Underberg used to make the drink is used in the ice as part of the very cool presentation. As he is quite the fan of sparkling, the husband opted for a Champagne cocktail called The French 1970, which uses a locally made grapefruit cordial. He pronounced it delicious. One other note, this bar uses beautiful stemware, another point in their favor. For our second round, I opted for the bartender's cocktail of the day, a martini that Billy had created earlier in the day. It was light and refreshing, making use of dry vermouth and a vodka I was unfamiliar with, but most importantly, it was well-made and very tasty. The husband, as usual, fell back on his Tito's and soda. Another patron had sat down near us, and we began chatting cocktails, and whiskey and bourbon, etc. My mom came up as a Manhattan cocktail lover her entire life, and the night of our visit to 22SQ happened to be the yahrzeit, the one year anniversary, of her passing. Billy overheard, and without missing a beat or telling us what he was doing, he mixed us his signature Manhattan--which was excellent--poured it into four small shot glasses, and we toasted Mom. It was a thoughtful and kind gesture that I will remember with great fondness. Thanks, Billy! We did not eat on this visit, but after looking at the menu choices, we certainly will next time. We enjoyed our visit to 22SQ. Part of it was due to a great bartender who really enjoys his job. I hope 22SQ takes note and keeps him crafting great cocktails for many visits to come. read more

The five stars are strictly for Holden and the drinks that he makes at the Bar. I have not had the food here, however am disheartened that we missed their Christmas brunch thinking they were closed. I would make a trip back to Savannah just to have the drinks again, they had 8 days of daiquiri keeping the holiday theme. The one on Sunday was amazing, Holden has a magical touch with his mixing the most simplest of stuff he will mix in front of you but turn out to be utterly delicious. We ended up having 5 daiquiri and two cubans, they were friendly and kind enough to check up on us to see if we made it okay out of and safe out. I would highly recommend going to this place when in Savannah, as I am missing the drinks already (no I don't have a drinking problem) they just were that good. I had a pretty awesome early dinner. I was debating going elsewhere, but just wasn't feeling a super heavy, fried, Southern meal. So I was the only person at the restaurant because I went absurdly early after driving from Sea Island, and they still seemed thrilled to see me. Emma was wonderful and made great recommendations. I tried the Salty something drink, which was essentially a Mezcal Paloma. It was good, but I wouldn't necessarily rave about it. But I would definitely rave about the food! First off, they had warm, gluten-free bread that was amazing. If you're like me and always stare longingly at the bread basket, offering a real substitute goes a very long way. There are only 2 items on the menu that can't be made gluten-free, so it's also pretty easy to eat there. I don't eat most of the meat, but I had the Natural Chicken and it was incredible. I was worried it might be boring, but it was perfectly cooked, the flavors were fantastic, and there were so many veggies that I wasn't expecting. I tried my hardest to clean my plate, but that just wasn't happening. A really great find. read more

Great food. For apps we had the farmers cheese and apricot jam plate- I liked it because I like farmers cheese, not every in my party liked it though. The serve fresh bread with butter, the butter was an interesting combination of sweet and savory ( they put salt on it). For entree we had steak (with asparagus, fried potatoes ) which was really good. The shrimp and grits were delicious and so was the Mac and cheese. For desert we had the strawberry bread pudding, it tasted even better the next day. They do not have anything on tap! I liked that they recommend other places to eat, most with great food! We stopped in at the bar on our way to another stop for a refreshment. It was mid-day, so not much action in the restaurant (not sure it was even open?) but the bar had more than a few people and gave off a laid back, hotel bar vibe. However, I was impressed with the cocktail selection and even more impressed with the quality! I ordered a mezcal cocktail and (as always) was skeptical when ordering but went with it anyway. I've found you can gauge a good bar/bartender with how well they craft a cocktail around a not so simple base such as mezcal or scotch and that rule of thumb has held true more often than not for me. So, with that being the case, if this drink set the standard for the rest of the menu then I was very impressed and enjoyed it thoroughly! The other 2 members of my party enjoyed their drinks as well and both said they'd like to go back. The next time I'm in Savannah I'll make sure to pop in again, possibly even for a meal! read more

I can't say enough about this restaurant! We loved it from the minute we walked in. It is open and airy with an organic feel. They are a Farm to Fork restaurant so whatever they don't get from local farms they make themselves and the hostess does a wonderful job of explaining the menu as it is broken down a bit differently. We had a tough time deciding as everything looked wonderful. We decided on the charcuterie plate, sliced pork belly with slaw & corn cakes and the crispy pork belly with veggie pasta. Everything was amazing! My 5 year old agreed. I have to also mention the bread basket they bring- out of this world! There are 3 varieties of house made bread and all are equally fabulous. We ordered dessert as well. It was good, but the other courses are definitely their strong point. Our waitress, Erin, was great. She was friendly, professional and answered all of our questions. This is a hidden gem as it is tucked away in a hotel. Well..maybe this was an off night for staff since it was xmas eve. I ordered bartenders choice drink, thought it would be nice creative drink. It was a Manhattan. Drinks were really good though. Charcuterie board was decent, but waitress couldn't tell us anything about it. Main course: I had the crab cakes and this was nothing but yum. The roue underneath was amazing. With expectations of upscale dining we found 22 Square to be somewhat disappointing. Seated at a lite, small dining room we found service to be attentive all evening. The limited menu clearly defines where all selection ingredients originate from. Also defined on the menu description - whether the dish is an appetizer, small plate or main entree. The evening started on a high note. After placing our orders we received an unexpected sizable cheese / fruit plate with bread offering. Tastefully done it was a highlight. Our dinning selections included a Scallop small plate, a Gumbo appetizer and a Buffalo Rib-eye entree.The scallops were acceptable but nothing more. The Gumbo - while a touch spicy was otherwise bland and forgetful - tastefully lacking. The Rib-eye correctly cooked medium arrived warm with the accompanying potatoes strongly under cooked. Shame - on our final night in Savannah we were looking for one more satisfying meal. 22 Square fell a bit short. read more

Can I just say that I am sooo glad that I made a reservation - even though it was for 7:30 not 7, because apparently the restaurant was full at that time. Except not. We were one of three tables in the restaurant - what's up with that OpenTable?! Griping ends there. 22 Square was ridiculously amazing - the cocktails were delicious (a Cucumber Swizzle and this Rye Sour thing), our server was patient (and very friendly, considering we weren't the restaurant's normal clientele - I think we were about 20 years young and a bit too buzzed) and very informative. And the food, oooh myyyy goddd, the food. Started with a cheese plate - Asher Blue - delicious, a Sheep's Milk Cheddar - so creamy, and this interesting honey goat cheese with a black tea rind - so different. All were accompanied by fruits, vegetables, and this delicious white and red grape compote. And all went fantastically with their delicious housemade bread. We nibbled on that for a while - guilt free, since at this point there was only one table with us - and then moved onto our small plates, which were more than enough for us. Friend got the Shrimp Stir Fry - I wasn't a fan, thought the leek fondue was a bit too rich and creamy for a dish like that. She, however, loved it. I got the Honey Glazed Pork Belly - Holy Piggy - it was amazing. The pork belly was so melt-in-your-mouth rich, and the salad was sweet and tangy - the perfect balance. I was in Savannah for a conference and during the day I went to skate all the spots I could find. While there I met an honest and funny lady. I asked her where a good place to eat would be. None of that touristy shit (everything on the river pretty much). She recommended 22 square because of its awesome local food. I am ecstatic that I went! Very knowledgeable staff and got to see the chefs prepare my meal. I actually told the server and the main chef that I wanted to feel fresher after this meal because I wasn't feeling fresh to death (like I usually am) after all the fried food I had been eating from my sponsor. The meal we made was fantastic. Beer choices: decent. The only reason this didn't have a 5 star rating is because of the price. So remember that. Must say Average. 22 Square no doubt has a great view of one of Savannah's reclaimed squares. However, the food was only above average and the wait time for what came out of the kitchen was a bit excessive. Service was slow and our waiter David did his best with a party of 9. The offered some specialty beers and wines on a very limited menu. The food menu was very limited and a bit confusing to the average diner. 2 adults and 3 kids as part of a party of 9 came to $70 as gratuity was added in at 18%. While the staff was nice, and they did comp us some bread w/ humus and chickpeas to tide us over until our entrees came, it was still more $ than what was worth the food and time expended there. Additionally, what detracted from dinner was a table of 4 who were obviously intoxicated and quite rowdy and disruptive. They had some very interesting items on their small plate menu-- I enjoyed the BLT which was a take on a blt with fried green tomatoes! The scallops and charcuterie plate were also great choices. We came on Christmas night. Not always the best night to eat out. Given that I'm gluten free and not by choice, we asked our server what were some of the gluten free friendly items. He was the only weakness in the evening and initially colored our experience. He had the good sense to tap into the knowledge of Chef Lauren Teague who came to our table and couldn't have been more welcoming and accommodating. We told her that I was gluten free and she smiled and said she was happy to cook for vegetarians and people with gluten allergies. "We all have to eat," she said. What a pleasure. We told her we would leave the menu in her capable hands and so it was a meal to remember. She made latkes that were so flavorful, steak tartare and then proceeded to cook pork belly two ways. For dessert she treated us to poached pear and homemade butter pecan ice cream with smoked cherries. Delicious. Highly recommended but make sure your server is knowledgeable. I eaten at many restaurants in my travels but this is a rare restaurant that knocks it out of the park. The restaurant has a classy and bright feel with tasteful decor. It is a place you can take special someone to for nice evening without feeling a suit and tie is needed. Upscale without being stuffy. The staff very attentive and professional - very good service. We had a 7:15 reservation and where seated right away once someone helped us. My problem was the service really. We waited about 15 minutes for someone to come take our drink order, we were about to walk out. There are about 15 tables in This place and only 5 had customers the whole time w 2 waitresses. Our waitress was very nice though I will give her that. I had the shrimp and grits, it was a little greasy but still good. The smothered pork chop was soggy an awful my husband eats EVERYTHING and he didn't like it. It was nice to try but sadly I wouldnt go back. read more

It should have been a red flag that we were able to get a last minute reservation for a party of 3 on a Saturday night. Things started fairly strangely; the host couldn't find any menus to give to us. After a few minutes of searching, he found some menus and we were seated. The place was fairly empty and it seemed that they only had one server working. The server greeted us and told us that the complimentary bread would be out in "a few minutes." We ended up ordering the bread enhancement as well, and we waited quite a while for any bread to arrive. Meanwhile, we watched our server deliver bread to other nearby tables. Once the bread did arrive, it was was delicious as were the ricotta, farm to table cheese, and apple butter. We had the corn bisque, warm quinoa salad, Mac and cheese, and vegetarian risotto. The soup, salad, and risotto were tasty. The Mac and cheese was underwhelming. I expected a lot more for $16. It was sorely lacking in cheese and tasted mostly like buttered noodles with some bread crumbs and bacon pieces sprinkled on top. So much for the bacon "crust" described on the menu. 22 square was all in all very disappointing, and I would not return or recommend it. read more

The interior was modern and fun. Our server was genuinely nice and attentive. We had fresh oysters and Brussel sprouts as appetizers. The oysters were served mostly plain, no horseradish. The sprouts were good, but not my favorite. My husband ordered the tenderloin. I had duck with lentils. The dishes had unique flavors, creative ingredients and great presentation. Oh wow, this place is so yummy. In 2 days my husband and I ate here 3 times. Once for dinner, which was killer but twice for breakfast. The breakfast here is awesome, fresh squeezed juices are offered daily. Their pancakes were delicious, so was the bacon! The buffet was just terrific! Dinner was amazing. My husband and I really love farm to table restaurants and this place was simply 5 star. The salad and homemade dressing (ranch) was out of this world with all the fresh veggies. My chicken and noodle dish was similar to a lot pie, but a million times more flavorful. I'll admit that when the hotel suggested this place, I thought they were just under the same umbrella as a business, so i was skeptical. I'm so happy we dined here....all 3 times! read more

Randomly found this place when we missed our reservation for the olde pink house; saw the great reviews and decided to give it a try. There were a lot of young, hip people milling around in the bar area right when we walked in and it seemed like a nice joint. The decor is trendy and cool without trying too hard. We were confused when we got the menus, though. They categorize their dishes on the menu in a unique way by classifying them by the farm where the food comes form, which sounds cool, but is confusing because most of the farms have some sort of animal in their name (shrimp, cow, pig) and so I mistakenly believed that each dish contained that animal. The waiter came over and kind of explained it? But when he left i was equally confused (he seemed high, which happens). Anyways, we ordered a cheese/veggie plate, vegetable and pork pasta, and a chicken breast platter with risotto. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING. EVERY SINGLE THING tasted so fresh made with care. It's a very long time since I've chosen to eat in a hotel restaurant, there are usually so many better choices available, however after a long day in the heat at the Roebling Road Race track, we didn't want to go too far afield. Set behind the bar in the Andaz hotel, this little restaurant is a "find". They're part of the farm to table scene and do a fantastic job. We had the truffled ricotta and the BLT to start, both of which were outstanding. Squid ink pasta with shrimps that rivaled the same dish a Rolf & Daughters in Nashville (which I dream about regularly), husband had the most perfectly cooked steak. We don't usually "do" dessert, but on this occasion felt duty bound to order, so we had the fry pie special - the pastry is probably the best I've tasted since my mother made her own back in the dark ages. I'm surprised we could get a table here at short notice. Once 22 Square has been "discovered" and is on the foodie radar, I'm sure it will be more difficult to get a reservation. I was in Savannah for a national sales meeting and we had a free night (which is rare on these events) and my boss and I decided to take some partners of ours out to dinner. I was tasked with finding the restaurant and came across 22 Square. The evening did not start out well...Our group got split up (as we were staying across the river and had to take a ferry) and two of us made our way to the restaurant. We did get a little lost - as nowhere does it say that the restaurant is in a hotel nor do you realize there are two hotels with the same name a few blocks from each other. Once we did find the restaurant, the host was not overly friendly and could have cared less about his job (at least that's how it seemed). He did not leave my guest and I with a favorable impression. The other half of our party arrived and things began to look up. Our server was very friendly, warm and intelligent. She provided some insight on wine and beers - even bringing out a second wine choice and allowing several of us to taste it when our first selection was unavailable. She provided us with some great off-the-menu choices for appetizers and dinner; as well as suggested some great appetizers for dinner. Our part of eight had a great meal; ranging from deviled eggs, meatballs and a cheese plate for appetizers to steaks, pork chops and pork belly for dinner. I would have giving this restaurant five stars but the experience of finding this place and the impression the host made on us held me back. read more
