Was anxious to go to this restaurant in the Andaz hotel after being turned away a few months ago because I didn't have a reservation. Well this time I made sure to make a reservation and it turned out I didn't need one! We were the only ones there until a family from the hotel walked in later. We've had some really good meals here, first staying at the hotel, but also going just for dinner, we live an hour away. Don't be put off that it's a "Hotel Restaurant", it's a restaurant in a hotel and the Hyatt-ANDAZ is a really nice line of hotels. Sweet Amish bread is really special, dense flavorful and enticing. Southern inspired cooking is the theme. Recently we went and had Pork and chicken, both clever marinated and green peppercorn, slow-cooked pork, chicken lemon and ginger. Ahi Poke app and huge beautiful intensely flavored heirloom tomato with Burrata starters also highly recommended. Ask for Manicel if she's working a very engaging and helpful server. Plenty of clever cocktails and reasonable wine pricing. read more

I stayed in the hotel this restaurant is attached to the Andes. I really expected the same quality of service. I actually had to walk up to the coffee bar and get my own. Second- there were only 2 servers. The male server was obviously busy working the front and back so I won't knock him. The female server was extremely visible, and when I called on her for help she appeared to be ignoring us. She did a fantastic job attending to "her customers ". Let me add there were only 3 tables sat, and 1 table before we left. After her tables left she started side work. I tried getting her attention for a coffee refill as no human was visible for about 15 minutes. She was totally ignoring me and avoiding eye contact ! I assumed she either had headphones on, or she wouldn't bother making contact because we weren't "her customers". Once I finally got her attention-She seemed irritated we had to ask. Finally - My food was served ! It was delicious! My real server delivered it to the table and disappeared to the back. I realized my toast was missing . Again - I had to interrupt the female server . When I asked if toast was supposed to be served she was really condescending. I felt like I inconvenienced her . I understand times are tough, and they were obviously short staffed. She "the female server" really could have made a difference for her team had she focused on helping our waiter out. Especially -if he had to juggle the customer and kitchen work . Positive - the manager was very sweet and understanding. I'm positive she resolved the issue quickly . The next morning was totally different. They were all happy and hustling ! Great upscale dining experience. Although I've been in Savannah for almost 3 years, I've never really heard much about 22 Square. Located inside the Andaz hotel, the restaurant was not very crowded for a Saturday night. The ambiance was sophisticated without being stuffy. The menu changes, and it is very short; on the night we went, there were only 5 entrees. My friend ordered the steak and potatoes, which she loved. I ordered the salmon. I thought the pairing was a little odd, as it was served over a bed of ground sausage. It would have been nice to have some greens added, but the salmon was delicious. The wine and cocktail menu were great, and the service was wonderful. I would return when I'm in the mood for a nice, more upscale meal in Savannah. read more

The restaurant is located inside the Andaz hotel, you enter the hotel and take a left. Came here for restaurant week and definitely recommend the place for a date night, dinner with friends and family. To start with, they give you fresh bread with butter, which was really soft and delicious. Drinks: my date got the Honky Tonk Angels and loved it. Definitely recommend it if you like tart drinks. I got the wine and was able to sample before getting a whole pour. Appetizer: I got the scallop with grapefruit. Definitely recommend it, the scallop was cooked to perfection and the grapefruit gave it a great taste. Entree: I choose the steak with fries and chimichuri. It wasn't the best steak I have had, also small in size but the chimichuri gave it a great flavor. My date got the Pork tenderloin with purple potatoes and I definitely recommend it. The meat was cooked perfectly and was very soft. The potatoes were seasoned well. Dessert: I got the Expresso creme brûlée and it was fantastic. My date got the s'mores brownie, it was good but nothing special- just a regular brownie with marshmallow melted on top and a few blueberries on the side. Service: the service was phenomenal. This place is on a short list for us. Never have we reordered the appetizer as dessert as well. The scallops on grapefruit brûlée is lite an sweet and we couldn't leave without another order. Between the scallops we ordered a salmon gluten and dairy free, and "bricked" chicken. Both dishes were amazingly tender and flavorful. So simple yet Devine. I got the feeling that this is the sort of place you'd find Paula Dean sneaking into wearing some sort of disguise and hiding in the corner when she wants something special. The space is boxy and smallish and sound over caries, but otherwise perfectly tasteful and comfortable. I was just kidding when I asked if they would fix oatmeal in the morning but thrilled to learn that they do! A hotel restaurant must, I guess, so as soon as my squeeze gets it together we'll be returning for breakfast! We're going to have to hit the road for South Florida before lunch but I may ask for another box to go. read more

New menu, new chef, just as good and even better. Meet Chef Chris. Thank you for introducing me to the amazing pairing of shrimp and grits with truffles. It brought it to a whole different level. It was the first time I had farro in the freekeh dish, and all I have to say is vegetarians need to flock in to try it. All the proteins were cooked perfectly. In particular, the freshness and flakiness of the salmon. I feel the restaurant stays true to the locally sourced ingredients, but it is great when a chef adds a twist to staple dishes. In my brief conversation with Chef Chris, he has brought his experiences from New York, Austin, and New Orleans into his repertoire. I look forward to eating here again and hope the ingenuity will continue. FYI, the Amish bread is wickedly good. Imagine that a challah and brioche had a baby. From my past experience... The restaurant has a seasonal menu. Everything was prepared nicely and the ingredients shine. You need to enter the Andaz hotel in order to find the restaurant. The chicken, salmon and pork dishes were all delicious. I'm knocking one star off for the lack of entree selection and the ambiance. The dining room was too bare and it felt too much like you were sitting in a hotel lobby, which you are. I think more attention to detail about how the dining room looks and more entree options would have been appreciated. read more

As we all know, "Hotel food" are usually quite an extreme 'hit and miss.' Well, this was a true hit indeed! After a whole week of traveling, needed something not fried, greasy and cheesy. Though I opted for 2 salads, there were what the doctor ordered! salad was refreshing, portion was generous and dressing was unique - honey I believe. The were big chunks! The second salad was fresh greens, large slices of watermelon radishes and fresh blueberries! It was a to-go.... so I appreciated them having the dressing packed on the side. Both salads...all the ingredients were super fresh and all the dressings were perfectly complimented. Kudos to Chef Martel, who packed me loaf of bread. I found out they baked their own loaves each day with a different flavor; today was cheddar??? I forgot already. The bottom line is....it was so good and fresh! This is an ideal spot to visit for breakfast in downtown old town Savannah. This restaurant is located in the upscale Hyatt Andaz hotel. There is a quiet classy ambiance here, with a hint of old-school Southern charm. They have a small buffet with an omelet station. The woman handling the omelets was brusk but efficient. She worked at her own pace but produced high-quality dishes. Our two server helpers were friendly. My BW had the buffet and started with thick and cheesy grits that were just about perfect. The pancakes were a tasty combination of cinnamon and sour cream. The bacon was thick, crisp, and tasty. My BW was not able to restrain herself as the frosted cinnamon rolls called out to her again and again. My cheese omelet with onions, peppers, and mushrooms was enough to fill me up and then some. I wanted to love 22 Square based on the reviews and creative menu but I just don't think the love is there. Upon arrival we were told our table would be a few minutes, so we waited at the bar and let the host know to alert us when we could sit down. Two rounds of drinks and 30 minutes later the host forgot about us. When we finally got to sit down the dining room was pretty empty so we were very confused. The bread & butter came out, and we quickly forgot about the empty dining room and long wait time because it was delicious. I ordered the truffled shrimp & grits and while the shrimp was tasty, the grits tasted very bland. There was a lot left to be desired with this dish. I would not recommend ordering this dish even though it sounds amazing. We also had the roast chicken which was cooked nicely and very filling but not as creative as they make it sound. Though this restaurant claims to be "fit for foodies", I wouldn't go in with those expectations. Decent food but nothing super special. read more

This restaurant was inside our hotel, Andaz, and we ate here only once -- right after a terrifying lightning storm that forced us to stay in. We started at the bar and had margaritas. Delicious. (bartender a little snooty. meh.) Then we ordered the cheese plate in the restaurant. OMG DON"T MISS THE CHEESE PLATE. I love cheese and this was beautifully presented and extremely edible. I must have eaten 6 slices of bread with it. The white bread was like crack. You would think we would be stuffed after all that cheese and bread but my husband and I both had the meat and three. We both had steak. I asked to substitute a salad instead of the veggies and grains it came with. We were both very happy. If not super stuffed;) This place serves locally grown food. Very fresh. Sunday Brunch here is simply a must-do. An eclectic mix of the freshest foods, all delivered in a buffet-style setting that would rival a royal's wedding reception. Croissant, muffins, scones, and other breads. Fresh juices, fruits, and berries. A charcuterie & fromage board. Chef Sam kills it with your omelets and crepes. The granola and smoothie bars are a picky-eater's heaven. Bethany is a rock star. The only draw-back here is the "maple" syrup. We got into restuarant at 9pm. The servant seated us and asked if we want water and gave the manus. We waited for 23 minites and no one broght waters, put aside taking our order for drink and food. There was nearly 15 customers / majority of them at the bar. So it was surprising how careless and ignorant the service was serving one of the very few tables! We decided to leave since we were hungry and there was no perspective of getting anything to eat there! Every time I come here for dinner I have an amazing time. I love that all the food is local and everything is made in house. I also love that since I'm gluten free they have homemade bread just for me. Which tastes amazing and not like the stuff you get in the store but soft and fluffy. This time I went for restaurant week and they were super friendly with helping me pick out something I could eat and even editing a few dishes. They always seem to go above and beyond when I come and I'm just a little Tini local. Lol. I also was super happy that they offered to cut the crust off the cheesecake for me so I could have it and that just made my night! read more

I look forward to coming here every time we're visiting Savannah. Just the atmosphere makes me happy (the bread too)! The entreés were lovely as well and the accompaniments perfect. For Starters, I'm not a butter person but for whatever reason, the Parmesan bread and this slightly salted butter was out of this world! We came on a Tuesday and had the dining room to ourselves, which was pretty cool- our waitress didn't bother us at all, and came by to check on us only a few times, which I appreciated. We started with the wedge salad (hold the crispy pork belly) and everything was fresh and delicious. Then for dinner we order the sirloin steak and the chicken francais. I know it's hard to believe, but the chicken was SO AMAZING it outranked the steak. Steak was great though. It was very chill vibe, slightly alternative, farm-to-table fresh, and intimate feeling without being stuffy. Some of the best tasting food I've ever tasted! My boyfriend and I enjoyed a few entrees including the bone marrow and shrimp, scallops, risotto dishes. Overall, the entire experience was amazing, from the wonderful food to good service. This was the first time that I had bone marrow and surprisingly enjoyed it very much. The bone marrow tasted so good, it was such a savory, flavorful dish that had that great melt-in-your-mouth feeling with each bite. Similarly, the seafood with risotto dish (I don't recall the name) was very delightful. The risotto was cooked just right: creamy and rich with a palatable flavor. Alongside the food, the cocktails were really good. I had the Trinidad sour cocktail, which was a smooth and bold tasting drink that went well with the bone marrow. My boyfriend on the other hand ordered a cocktail that was more citrusy but delightful just the same. Overall, the experience was amazing! It is very trendy and classy, kid friendly and good for small parties. The freshest food I have ever had. They get their ingredients from local farms. Everything we had was perfect! My boyfriend can only eat gluten free and they had a variety of gf options. They also make their own bread so he was able to have GF bread while I had their regular bread. He says it was the best bread he's ever had. He ordered the swordfish special on top of fresh veggies. It was the most tender swordfish he has ever had. I had the crispy pork belly with house made pasta, onions, and greens. Fabulous farm-to-table in Savannah. After three nights of delicious seafood, mainly oysters, I needed a change. So glad we found this delicious place! Super strong boutique cocktails, fabulous wine list, AMAZING (yes!) baked breads. We had the most incredible cheese plate-- my heavens! Yum. I had the special entree which was pompano over an heirloom tomato risotto with spinach. The fish was crispy on the bottom and absolutely perfectly seasoned and prepared. My fiancé had the pork chop with some crispy smoked fingerling potatoes that he still can't stop talking about... We ordered too much food and didn't finish everything we wanted to finish but so glad we tried it all. So good. Try this place. This place is absolutely amazing, and it starts with ... the bread!! Freshly baked on site, two different varieties: a cheese concoction and ciabatta, served with the best butter I have ever tasted, slightly salted and peppered. My husband had the pork chop with potatoes, cauliflower, and squash and was thoroughly impressed. Best-seasoned pork chop ever, I agree. I had the roasted duck breast with succotash, which, too, was absolutely fantastic. The chef is an expert and seasoning food to perfection! I had been apprehensive about paying $25 per entree, but I was glad my husband convinced me to live a little because that was probably the best meal we have ever had and worth every penny. Next time we are in Savannah, we will be back, and we will recommend the place to all family and friends planning a trip! read more

We went here last night for dinner for a girls' night. Everything was incredible and fresh. Total farm to table and local there wasn't a bad thing on the menu. I got the squab on fettuccini with mushroom ragu and Billy's salad. The bread basket was so good we couldn't stop talking about it. Everything was perfectly prepared and delicious from onion soup with Guinness to the lamb shepherd's pie. The cocktails were excellent but you definitely have to ask questions about some of the ingredients that are unique. Get the "Cecilia You're Breaking my Heart." It was great. The service and food were top notch but what surprised us was how well they take care of their customers. This place is in the Andaz hotel and was very popular. We got seated on time but it took almost 15 minutes to even get water or order. This is understandable. They seemed under staffed with large parties to serve. The host ended up taking the beginning of order. Because of this they comped the our first round of drinks and one of the entrees was a little late so they comped that too. We didn't expect that at all and we're blown away. This place seems to be a bit of a secret. Not sure why it's excellent. Only down side is less than stellar acoustics in the dining room. What a great meal. Sorry we didn't get dessert they sounded just as unique as the rest of the menu. read more

I ate breakfast here during at my stay at the Andaz and was very impressed. The breakfast buffet costs $15 for the cold buffet or $20 for the hot buffet. I had the combo on both days and stuck with lots of fruit and an omelette that they make right in front of you. The omelette was delicious, with lots of choice of fillings and the home fries were a nice accompaniment. There is lots to chose from; cereal, pastries, meat and cheeses and traditional southern comfort food. Lots of juices as well. If you don't fancy the buffet, there is a menu that you can order from. read more

LOTS OF TIME NEEDED!! Time is my only ding on this restaurant. It took us about an hour and a half to complete our meal, with our actual food being delivered after an hour. We had a great dining experience tonight and I would give 22 Square an enthusiastic recommendation. The restaurant is a beautiful and comfortable space and much of the meal is prepared in sight. The meal started with some housemade pillowy crusty bread with a fantastic pepper butter. I had a small BLT plate, Burrata, arugula, fried green tomato, balsamic reduction and EVOO. The Burrata was creamy in the center and a nice contrast with the perfectly cooked fried green tomato. Kim had a kale and carrot Caesar salad that she really enjoyed. I had the housemade spaghetti Pomodora. It was spot on. The pasta was fresh and al dente and tossed with fresh cherry and canned pear tomato, fresh basil, garlic clove, and Parmesan. The portion size was exactly what I would hope for in a fine Italian restaurant. For dessert we shared a peach upside down cake, which featured a moist senwhite cake made with corn meal, caramelized peaches and sour cream. Chased with a pot of chamomile tea. This is the first time I've actually eaten in the restaurant while staying at the Andaz. Usually I'll sneak up to the bar and order food from there (same food, different place to sit). That being said, the service was fantastic. Everyone was very kind and professional. I happened to come when there were only a few other tables and my food came out exceptionally fast! They split their menu up based on the protein or lack there of, and then within that protein there are appetizers or small plates or entrees. Pretty unique way of doing it! For wine to start - I love a good vinho verde and not a lot of places have that wine on the menu - but Andaz does and I always go for that! There used to be an amazing pasta carbonara on the menu (seriously, if it's ever there when you go - order it! perfectly cooked egg!) but it wasn't there this time, so I went for the spaghetti squash. Very fresh and colorful, though not a ton of flavor. But I wasn't too worried about it. In addition, they brought out bread and salted butter - they had a regular bread, and then a special wheat bread that had honey and a few other things in it and was AMAZING. The server offered to bring more out and I had to say no so that I wouldn't stuff myself and be miserable. But overall, really good, really solid place to enjoy a meal right downtown! read more

We had the Swine and Fowl and Kurobuta Pork Chop, both off the main menu. The pork chop was cooked perfectly and the dish was nice, if a little plain. The Swine and Fowl was a disaster, both the pork belly and chicken thigh were over cooked, and the collards were just okay. Overall a nice place for an early evening drink and an appetizer, the fried green tomatoes were good, but I won't be returning for a meal. read more

The menu was a new experience because it was organized by type of protein or vegetable, and within each section, an appetizer, small plate, or entree was offered. As we have been eating and walking throughout the day, we were looking for something light and refreshing. We did not order any of the entrees--just the small plates and appetizers: pork belly, ceviche, and pickled & fresh vegetables. The dinner started off with a large basket of bread and butter. The ceviche came with crostini, and it was my favorite dish of the meal. It came with pickled mustard seeds, which really made the dish stand out. The vegetable dish was very large, and a good choice to share amongst the table. The pork belly was flavorful and rich, and balanced well with the sweet and tanginess of the small salad that came with it. Although we didn't order the entrees, the overall meal was memorable. The setup and ambiance of the small restaurant was my favorite part of the experience.
