Made the mistake of trusting a friend with keys to my home, little did I know this someone was crazy. Naturally when it all came to a bad end and some of my personal possessions quickly went missing, I needed help to make my apartment secure again. I was looking for some professional help with the entry mechanism to my condominium. The pin on the deadbolt was broken and had twisted. The lock was essentially useless, and I needed a new lock installed. After seeing high marks for reviews for quality service and fair prices, I decided to contact 24/7. On their prices. They are not fair and are not of value at all. The prices are high and you receive barely acceptable work as a result. The technician only carries basic, low quality lock mechanisms and did not have a suitable range of tools or pieces to actually fix/replace my entry mechanism. This is understandable, but the insistence of the technician to use the inferior equipment is alarming. Because the technician did not have the required equipment, I declined to have him use the garbage he brought with him. The technician strongly opposed this, pointing to my own security and comfort of mind, as reasons to proceed with the inferior install. On the recommendation of the technician, I was supposed to receive a temporary lock installed for the day, and then he would come back the next day, to install the new equipment and retrieve the temporary equipment. This never happened. I was standing next to the technician when he called the office to report the installation of the temporary equipment and he then requested a price quote on the preferred equipment; the planned follow-up visit; and the adjustment of the invoice. The company never followed up with anything, and now I am stuck with low quality / sub-standard equipment that I have to now replace anyways. Everything about this company was a bad experience. I do not recommend anyone to use this service, unless it is an absolute emergency and there are no other options. If that was the case, I would use them again with the knowledge that it is only a temporary, low quality hack job that will need to be fixed properly when there is time. I gave the 2nd star because they did show up, and did do some work. My door locked. That's about all I can say for them. read more

NEVER AGAIN and if you're considering them - DON'T DO IT. A 20 minute job cost $200!!!! Don't think so!!!! Called for a quote to install a keyless entry pad on my sliding patio door - was quoted around $130. Fine. The guy came on time, great. Looked at the digital entry pad said will be around $350-$420 depending on the amount of work that needs to be done. What? How is the quote so far apart from the on-the-spot estimate?? Of course I said no! So he said that'll be $20 for the service call. I was never told that in case something doesn't work out I would have to pay $20 for a service call, but fine I gave him the $20 and left. Called the office/manager told him the guy said $400 - how come so different from your earlier quote?! He said he'll call me back - calls me back says the guy will come back and do it for $200. I said, great let's do it. The same guy comes back (mind you the guy has NO sense of customer service - think "i'm better than you" or "I don't give a shit" attitude) but whatever he's here to do a job. Fiddles with the digital keyless entry pad for another 10 minutes - says he can't do it - the lock will be flimsy and it'll look ugly - just return it. OK! FINE! Then he asks why I need it and why can't I just do a key for the existing lock. I said ok, let's do the key - the whole point was to be keyless and able to run out the door anytime without having to worry about locking myself out. But WHATEVER. Let's do the key - primary issue here is safety. He goes to his truck to change the CYLINDER for my existing lock and grab a couple keys for that cylinder. I come outside and ask how much it's going to be - I hear him say $20 - I figure that's fine. He comes in, installs everything and I give him $20 - he says I said $200! (he had an accent, maybe it threw me off). Anyway, I was like WHAT?!? $200 for a 20 minute job and a $20 cylinder cost?! (seriously, look it up - that's how much cylinder and 2 keys cost at Home Depot). He said "no, it's not same cylinder and I spent a lot of time here". Ok, fine. Mark it up 2x ok 3x - OK 4x - but 10x???? That's egregious and plain "doorway" robbery. I called another locksmith in the area to make sure I'm not being too crazy - Nonstop Locksmith quoted me $80 - $35 for the cylinder and $45 for service!!! Can you believe this?? 24/7 was charging me almost 3x of what it would've cost me with any other company. I basically said I am not going to pay $200. I googled the price of the cylinder in front of the guy and told him if he thinks it's logical that I would pay $200 for the keyless entrypad install and same for a change of cylinder (cost of which is $20!!!) on my EXISTING lock. He mumbled half something I didn't understand said he wants to get out of my house and said pay me $150. I said no - so I paid him $120 on TOP of the $20 service call fee I already gave him. So a 20 minute standard, easy job cost me $140. Maybe I should switch careers. I don't know any other job that pays $140 for 20 minutes of mindless work. Yelp - you failed me this time. I usually have super pleasant experience when I use the first pop up on Yelp search. Lesson is do your research and price shop. My bad I guess. But don't make my mistake. Got locked out of my car this evening picking my daughter up from a birthday party. My keys fell out of my pocket & we locked all the doors. I first tried to jimmy it open with an old school wire hanger, no luck. An hour after getting locked out finally caved in & called a locksmith. Found Chi-Locksmith on Yelp and though they only had 2 reviews they were both good & I saw they were a local Pilsen business. I always try to support local businesses when possible, I'm glad I did. Johnathan called to let me know when he was 3 minutes away & got to work right away upon arrival. He had my car opened within a couple of minutes. He was very nice & professional. Payment was quick & easy on my phone. I got a fair price, being that it was 1am & snowing.
