    Ed Saloga Design Build

We are currently moving into our dream home built by Ed Saloga. From day one when we met with Ed we…read morehave been very impressed with his knowledge and talent. We told him what our hopes and needs were in our home Ed certainly delivered beyond our expectations. Throughout the process if he said I will take care of it he always did. He works with no one but the best I truly believe they all really cared about making us happy. If you are currently thinking of building a new home or taking on a renovation you need to meet with Ed Saloga. If you are like us you only want the best.

When you build a new home, you may not think that professional home inspection is needed, but…read morethat's exactly what you should do if Ed builds your house. We had several issues during construction that should have set off red flags, but didn't. I naively assumed, based on his reputation, that he values quality and would ensure a quality product. We trusted him and paid him well to do just that. The biggest problem we've had (so far; I now worry about what else was overlooked) is that most of our windows have rotted and had to be replaced. The windows were ordered with raw pine frames (aluminum clad exterior face, but the sides, top, and bottom, were unfinished) that were supposed to be painted on site. Of the windows replaced, none of the top or bottom edges were painted, so the raw wood sat on a flat aluminum sill. Every time it rains, water remains on the sill in contact with the window frame, so they began deteriorating from the day they were installed. A responsible builder checks carefully the work done by every sub-contractors and makes sure the work is done correctly. Unfortunately, this wasn't easy to notice and I didn't discover it until way beyond the 1 year warranty. Windows, when properly installed, are designed to last 50 years or longer. Ed took no responsibility for his mistake or the cost I incurred to replace the windows. A quality builder stands behind his work, rather than hide behind a warranty. Ed offers a 1-year warranty, but unless you have detailed knowledge of what to look for and the time to do it, the only things you likely will notice during the warranty period are superficial, paint, drywall, and trim. The serious defects will go unnoticed until much later when they are a much bigger problem. Some other issues we had further illustrate how product quality (and us as clients) were not a priority: - I discovered a portion of the roof at the peak was never shingled or otherwise protected. The roof framing was exposed to the elements. As a client, would you expect to have to climb the roof to make sure the structure was water tight? - A closet door was ordered with with the hinges on the wrong side (RH swing vs. LH swing). The door was installed without even asking us if that was acceptable. - A storm door for a screened porch had the same problem with the door hardware installed backward (so it locks from the outside). - Early in the project, I had given Ed a photo of the stone fireplace hearth that we wanted. On two other occasions, he asked for the same photo (presumably because he either lost or discarded the previous ones). But when it was built, it looked nothing like the photo - it was obvious that nothing had been communicated to the masons and Ed was perfectly willing to let it pass, until we complained. - A section of stamped concrete was done in the wrong color and pattern. It was not corrected. - A full tube of construction adhesive was left in the driveway. I drove over it and had adhesive covering the tire, wheel well, and fender of my car. When I complained, Ed just brushed it off. He did not offer to do anything to fix the problem.

Naperville Windows and Doors stuck out immediately to me with quick communication via email and phone, along with free in-person consultation. There were no gimmicks, no games, no pressure to purchase, and a full out the door price (no pun intended) with no additional fees that would come later. Other people I spoke with tried to put some pressure on me with timelines and costs, but I don't do business with places like that. Don and Sandy were great and easy to work with, timelines were exactly what they mentioned, and the day of install couldn't have gone more perfectly. Jereen came by and did an incredible job on the install, with beautiful trim finishing around the interior / exterior and sealing everything up beautifully. The work was also completed in about 5 hours which was very speedy and efficient. The pricing was right in our budget and extremely competitive with all other vendors we spoke with, but the level of customer service exceeded everyone else by far. We'll continue to do business with them for all of our door / window needs in the future, looking forward to working with them again! Best, Charlie

We did our best to seal off the opening with thick plastic and tape until we could get the window replaced but knew that wouldn't last long. One company we called wanted over $500 just to nail plywood over the opening. In the meantime, we called two window companies to get estimates for the replacement. The first company spent very little time and was rather short with us. They offered nothing in the way of covering the opening for the 6-8 weeks it would take for the new window. Then we called Naperville Windows & Doors. Their representative came to our house and took time to listen to us and address our concerns. Shortly after receiving our estimate (which, by the way, was over $1000 lower than the first company for the same window), Don (who I believe is the owner) came out to get exact measurements. When he saw the gaping hole in our house & our makeshift repair, he offered to nail the old window into place and seal the opening so we wouldn't be without a window for 2 months. When we tried to pay him for his trouble, he wouldn't take any money. Very impressive customer service! Needless to say, we chose to go with NWD. When our window came in, Joe came to install it. He was super nice & did a fantastic job! The window is beautiful & very solid. We were very happy with our experience with NWD and would whole-heartedly recommend them. In fact, we plan to begin replacing our other windows over the next few years & will go with NWD again when we do. Thanks again!
