We chose this place based on yelp and google. Our server was a young man named Jan. He was knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. He was friendly and took good care of us. I had the burger and it was delicious! That's saying something since I'm not a big meat eater. My hubby had salmon and couscous. He said it was good. We topped our meal with blackberry crème brûlée. It was so good! Definitely recommend. Choose to walk in and find your own table rather than wait.

I love this place! We came here 3x when visiting Anchorage. The first night and the last night twice! lol. 49th was the only place open late and it had tons of seating, from the indoor dining, bar dining, roof top dining to the casual outdoor food truck area. The first night we dined in their bar area, which is first come first serve. They were super busy even at 9pm! We ordered the seafood chowder, it was thick, had some salmon pieces in it. A real seafood chowder and not just clams, it was tasty. For me, I ordered their king salmon with couscous, some veggies, and a tzatziki sauce. It was good. I liked mine better than my friends who ordered a parm crusted halibut, and lots of vegetables. Hers was a bit dry. My old fashion that I got was terrible. It was all watered down and horribly made. Someone needs bartending classes. Stick with their beers or house made hard seltzers or sparkling water. I did get their frontier grapefruit sparkling water and it was awesome. Our second time, I really wanted a reindeer sausage, and to my luck, they had one at the food truck area. We like the food truck area better, it was laid back, live music, some bar games, nice weather outside and even an ice cream truck too. The sausage came with caramelized onions and bacon. It satisfied my reindeer sausage cravings. For drinks, I got their tundra berry (blackberry cloudberry) hard seltzer and it was so good! I loved it. We came back after dinner and I got their other 2 hard seltzers, glacier gold (pineapple white strawberry) and tropic chill (guava raspberry). I could only drink half of each since I was so full from dinner. But I enjoyed it and wish they sold it in California! One of the best hard seltzers I've had. It's so bubbly and you can taste fruit without it being sweet. I'll definitely come back if I were in Alaska.

Great bar food, and service was pretty fast for a busy Friday afternoon. I tried the yak burger and the s'mores dessert to share with the table. Plenty of tv's so ideal for a sports night. Very thematic if you want to immerse yourself in the Alaska sports bar scene. Food was great for bar food

We grabbed some lunch at 49th State Brewing. First level is first come, first serve. Second level- check in with the host. Usually a wait. Service is great. Friendly and fast. Everyone seems to be from another country so pretty interesting. They have everything to drink. We tried a couple of their beers- both were great. Food was good. Their Yak burger is amazing! Never tried Yak before but loved the burger. Caesar salad was tasty. Added salmon and it was pretty dry but still good. Beautifully decorated. They even have a little fire pit inside. Very cool. Great view of the sound, as well.

If I could recommend one place to go in Anchorage, I think this would be it. I have been here multiple times now and have never been disappointed. They have great food and great service and the atmosphere is so Alaskan and perfect for a vacation. They have a huge bar just for drinks. Huge menu of delicious food. And indoor and outdoor seating with a great view of the water.

Good customer service, good view, nice ambiance. Halibut sandwich was quite dry, we were told it was juicy... Good sodas, the getting enjoyed it. The fish and chips is all the hype, very yummy and flakey! The grilled cheese was good, the bread was harder than I thought though. I'd recommend this for groups and it's in a great part of downtown. It's good for Alaska, the food overall for the group was 7/10.

Pros: -friendly staff -cozy ambience -fun beer flavors and unique Alaskan food items -honestly, some of the best food we have had while in Anchorage (many other spots are underwhelming) Cons: -food isn't as great / juicy as the staff and locals make it out to be -long wait times for food -menu for flights is confusing and lack of pricing makes it difficult to gauge your cost Despite the cons, I still think this place has some of the best food in the area. I would highly recommend you stick to the top items like fried halibut (get three because they are small) because it was amazing and grab some chowder! Other items like the crab burger were dry.

We had to stop by given all the recommendations we got when arriving in Alaska! I was a bit skeptical being vegetarian if we'd find much to eat. They had a few options and they did them really well. The street corn and Spicy Buddha bowl were both vegan and so good! The bowl in particular is huge! The bowl is not spicy contrary to its title. You can get the chili powder on the side. Could be shared between two people. Tables are hard to get but the first floor has open seating if you can snag some spots. We were on a 1 hour waitlist for Tuesday night! Decided to just sit along the wall, which is sort of like bar seating. A bit challenging to balance plates on small wooden ledges. Also hard to figure out who our server was or where to get a menu. Once we visited the front checkin they noted a server would join us soon. Normally wait staff brings you water or refills glasses. Here we had water bottles at the table but had to request cups. Again, just took more time to track down a server and get things. The restaurant is spacious with an upstairs level and private party room. Feels like a mix between a rustic bar and tavern.

Today we had an awesome lunch at 49th st brewing. We arrived at the location and noticed a line out the door....not good. We waited to give our name and was told it would be at least a half hour wait, I said that's fine and we went into the bar for a drink. We were given a buzzer. I went to taste a beer and in no more than 5 min I got a message that our table was ready.... Great news. Adam was our waiter who took great care of us. He was patient and educated us about the menu. I ordered the roasted salmon over couscous which was delicious. My wife had the halibut fish n chips which was soo delicious. Our friends ordered the fish tacos which were amazing and the Halibut burger which they both enjoyed! Everything was amazing and delicious!

Pano from rooftop, 4 stories up. Awesome industrial view.

Always a good time. What's better than having a beer or two on a Friday afternoon on the rooftop. We didn't have any food, so I can't opine. Overall an excellent afternoon in the sun and 70°+.

Best view for a dinner ever!!!! Got the halibut and the Crab grilled cheese. The crab grilled cheese is definitely a must try, but it is heavy. Very good though. The halibut! Delicious...... (hate to put this in a review, you won't go wrong getting the halibut but F street Bar wins on which I thought was best- and it's way cheaper- but you don't have the view at F street bar) so WIN/WIN. Either way. I can't wait to come back to 49th state brewery and enjoy more food and more view! Oh the bread pudding!!!! Finally found a good one. This is the best bread pudding I have had in years!!! Order it

Cool brewery. Lots of levels with amazing views. Convenient location. Plenty of seating. They even have merch. You can also grab their beers in store. So if don't want to stay and eat can still swing by yo grab their beers. We sat at too level. There are many different ones and lots of great scenery. The flowers are beautiful. We ordered beer that was okay. Also had a Paloma that was meh. Ordered the flatbread with reindeer sausage and some other meat and that was tasty. Mac and cheese was also good. A great place for a meal or just to hang for sure. Service was amazing. Very accommodating and super friendly!!!

Huge, vibrant brewpub with a water view and outdoor patio. Lots of interesting beers and cocktails. We sat on the upper patio at the bar - bartender was friendly and helpful. It did start raining while we were there and unfortunately the bar does not have any cover to it, but it added to the experience. We had a salmon bowl and the crab grilled cheese. Both were huge portions and delicious, salmon chowder that came with the crab grilled cheese was especially delicious!

    Are kids allowed here?

Yes, and if you're more comfortable, there is a full regular dining space that's not the bar area located upstairs.

    Do they have happy hour?

Hello, Happy hours for drink specials are not allowed per Alaskan liquor laws. The pub often has pop-up to go beer specials and other great offerings though.

Ordered a wedding cake for a casual elopement…read more Cake execution: pretty awful. To be honest, the cake wasn't all that pretty to begin with but it got worse as the day went on and it thawed out more. Picked up my cake around 4pm and by 7pm it was a tilted Mad Hatter cake. I assure you, it was not damaged during transport. When we cut into the cake to serve slices, an entire chunk of cake was missing from the bottom tier and "spackled in" with frosting. This caused the cake to collapse and the top tier slid off to one side. There was also no dowel support between to the top and bottom tiers. Just a cardboard round which slid on top of the buttercream. That probably would have been ok if it weren't for the missing chunk of cake. People asked me if I made the cake myself. Hahaha. It was pretty embarrassing. But luckily this was for a very casual elopement, not a big wedding, otherwise I would have been pretty pissed. My parents did pay a decent amount of money for this, roughly $275. I've seen far better from Walmart's bakery. The shop got stars for the following... Cake flavor: very good! I ordered the champagne cake with strawberry filling for the bottom tier and chocolate cake with chocolate fudge filling for the top tier. All covered in white chocolate buttercream frosting. The cake and fillings were delicious. The frosting was a little gritty, I assume from using granulated sugar, but still tasty. A little too sweet for my liking but it was still good. The cake layers were nice and thick. Customer service: Great! Response time from the shop was excellent. They promptly responded to my emails on the quote and design request. I called the shop when it was about time to pick up my cake and didn't reach anyone at first, but they called me right back. I guess I could have called the shop to let them know the issues with the cake but I have a feeling once the cake leaves their shop in good condition, they would put the blame on the customer. I just won't use them again, for cakes anyways. Anyways, thanks for reading and check out my Mad Hatter cake.

UPDATE: Well, folks…read morewe have heard back from the bakery's "Will M" who takes NO responsibility for the unusual and unheard of practice of hiding plastic straws in the cake and covering it with frosting. Has anyone ever bought an 8-inch cake with 3 thin cake layers and found plastic straws imbedded in it? Yeah, me neither. Nice try Willie, deflecting from the truth with an attack about how I spoke on the phone with your rude employee Joe who got hysterical about my plans to note this experience on Yelp. I was never angry nor abusive when calling to inform the management about the cake issues. I had zero demands, just a request that a bakery manager or owner return my call --of course no one did. The facts are simple, I live in North Carolina and ordered this cake by phone. I had this small cake delivered by a florist who picked up the cake and delivered it with flowers to my 86 year-old parents, (for Mother's Day) one of whom is wheelchair bound and doesn't leave the house. This was noted at the time of the order and explained to the nice young lady who took the order as to why a florist would be picking up the cake. So how does one photograph transparent pieces of plastic in a cake slice, Willie? The cake was inedible. Periodt. Now, instead of recognizing the situation as an opportunity to repair the situation, keep a customer loyal and repair the bakery's reputation, perhaps even reevaluate or change your weird practice of hiding straws in cakes or even an offer to make good somehow, Willie M. chose to be defense and aggressive. I believe warning people about hidden plastic straws in desserts is exactly why we all read YELP reviews. Seriously, do not waste your time and money ordering anything from the AK cake studio. Not taking accountability for a self-inflicted screw up is a major red flag. Their immense number of negative reviews should have been my first red flag. Oh well. Go elsewhere , folks and enjoy a cake that doesn't require plastic rods to hold it in place. Those plastic straws shred when you cut into the cake leaving plastic particles through out the slices. What a dumb practice. Original post: Weird experience that resulted in throwing out the entire cake! Apparently this bakery inserts plastic straws called "supports" into their cakes to "stabilize" them. These straws are not visible and customers have no way to know these straws are hidden in the cake. My 86 year old parents received this chocolate cake and upon eating it found numerous plastic particles through out their slice. Of course they threw it out! They only let me know yesterday as I mentioned ordering another for my Dad. They were adamant I not use this bakery again. So of course I called the bakery today to describe the issue about a cake I ordered for Mother's Day. I asked to speak with the owner or manager and was told by "Joe" neither was in today. I explained the issue and Joe began a bit of a rant about why they use plastic hidden supports due to instability of the fillings and butter in the cake. I asked if there was anyway a recipient would know of these straws and was told there is a label on the box that say something about "supports." I don't know that any cake customer who would know that supports means plastic clear straws through out the cake and said so. Also told Joe that had I known these invisible cake straws were hidden inside the cake, I would not have ordered from them. I asked him to have the management call me with a plan to rectify this bad experience because my parents threw the cake out after finding plastic particles in their servings. Joe's attitude got hostile when I said if nothing happens I will go on Yelp to warn future customers about these plastic supports. He took that as a threat and said so claiming I was trying to "harm the business." I told him how is it harming the business to warn customers this bakery uses hidden plastic straws in their cakes? Again, these straws are not visible (they are clear plastic, do not protrude above the cake's surface and are fragile enough to be broken when cutting into the cake.) I suggested they not use these straws as any customer would be badly surprised by that practice. Of course he tells me no one has ever complained (to him) about it before. He refused to tell me the first name of any manager or owner! Who does that? He told me he would pass on my message but somehow I really dont think he will. I will update this review should this bakery fix this experience. I cannot believe how unpleasant "Joe" was and how irrational he became. Ugh. Do yourselves a favor and get a better experience and a "stable" cake elsewhere in Anchorage.

Stopped by because my mother now has me completely addicted--and I can see why…read more I picked up a variety of their tarts along with a chocolate cake filled with raspberry, and everything was absolutely delicious. Each tart had its own unique flavor, perfectly balanced and not too sweet, which made it way too easy to keep reaching for another. The chocolate raspberry cake was a standout--rich, moist, and layered with just the right amount of tartness from the raspberry filling. What really surprised me was how satisfying everything tasted without feeling heavy or overly sweetened--and even better, it didn't spike my blood sugar the way most desserts do. You can tell there's intention behind the ingredients and how everything is made. They also have plenty of other baked goods like cookies, brownies, and more, so there's definitely something for everyone. The staff are friendly, and the bakery itself is so cute--such a welcoming little spot that makes the experience even better. If you're looking for treats that feel a little more thoughtful but still indulgent, this spot is definitely worth checking out.

I feel like while I'm acknowledged, it's mainly with a stare. It was like this last time we came in as well. I absolutely do not like the savory rolls. I've had the ham and the reindeer sausage. Both are very small (which you don't know that because they're pre-bagged) -- they were just so oily it wasn't enjoyable. I still like the Apple fritter or whatever it was I got. It looked like a fritter but it's topped with a dollop of cream cheese frosting so maybe it's some kind of cinnamon roll. It wasn't labeled so I'm not sure. My partner ate all of his pastries but didn't comment. I like that they raise funds for the community. It's not a bad shop, but I'm very big on customer service. It's also not close so I tend to go to closer bakeries
