I will say their Wedge salad was pretty darn tasty. Their sandwiches come with fries but you don't get a bunch of fries. One of our guys has the salad and to add a skewer of steak the cost was $19 which I thought was rather steep. Overall the food was really good, I would definitely come back. It's our first time in Anchorage and decided to go to dinner to one of the most popular restaurants in Downtown Anchorage and now I know why it's so popular. Heads up, this place usually has 1 to 1.5 hour wait to get seated. We went around 8:45pm and were already slowing down so we got seated on the second floor terrace in 30 min. The view is amazing from there. We started off with an appetizer which was the crab spinach and artichoke dip. I think it's a must have. It was so delicious and probably one of the best I've eaten. For the main course I had the 49th state fish n chips. Considered the best in Anchorage and I see why. It was perfectly fried with the right amount of batter, crisp and the fish super tender. I loved it. My wife and daughter shared the salmon which they really enjoyed and my son ordered the baked Mac-n-cheese. Got to try it and it was also delicious. To drink I had a hard cider, my wife had the Belgium Dall which I tried some and I usually don't like beer but that one was tasty. My daughter ordered a strawberry lemonade which she enjoyed and my son ordered a root beer that a local place makes. And for Dessert we ordered the chocolate cream pie. In Anchorage for my baby daddy's work trip and was craving fish and chips. I saw all the good ratings on here and wasn't expecting to experience such horrible service. Right when we entered it was a question of whether we would like to sit upstairs or if you chose to sit downstairs it was first come first serve with any empty table you find. The hostess was very adamant with telling us if we chose to sit at the long wooden table downstairs that we must sit at only the ends of the table. Weird but ok...considering the long table was completely empty during our entire visit. So we sat down and never saw a server come to our table. My baby daddy went to tell someone that we were ready to order and they said they would find our server. When our server came to us, his name was Ryan. He couldn't look me in the eyes and you could tell he was annoyed that he had to work. Never asked us if we wanted anything to drink. He also messed up a small modification in our order and when my baby daddy asked about it he was mumbling things and walked away. He was definitely a little off to me or maybe just hates his job? The fish and chips were decent. They came out warm not hot which is a first for me with fish and chips. The fries were bland and a little limp lol. The sauces with the fish and chips were good. The batter wasn't as crispy as I hoped. Oh and they didn't give me my side of coleslaw that was supposed to come with my meal but I didn't realize it until later. Packed house, amazing vibe, and great service! There was a long line, but we luckily grabbed two seats at the bar. They have an awesome selection of beers, cocktails, and mocktails. The food was spectacular. The fish and chips featured perfectly crunchy, buttery, and flaky seasoned halibut (the absolute star of the night), though the fries were good too. My coworker and I dropped in for a late lunch at 49th State Brewing, and we were honestly impressed from the moment we walked in. It's a nice, welcoming establishment with plenty of space, and parking is available across the street, which made things easy. Our waiter was extremely kind and friendly. He walked us through the specials, offered recommendations, and brought over a drink menu. We each ordered a drink, I went with a local stout that reminded me of Guinness, just much tastier and smoother. Definitely something I'd come back for. We mentioned that we were in the mood for halibut, and our waiter immediately recommended the panko-crusted halibut, saying it was his personal favorite. He was right. The dish was outstanding--tender, perfectly cooked halibut with a crisp panko crust, served with a mash red-potato and drizzled around the plate was a light white lemon cream sauce. Everything complemented each other perfectly. One of the best halibut plates I've had in Anchorage. We wrapped up our late lunch with dessert: a bread pudding and a blackberry crème brûlée. The bread pudding was warm, perfectly cooked, and served with a rich cream sauce that pulled it all together. The crème brûlée was delicate with a subtle blackberry hint that enhanced the flavor without overpowering it. Overall, fantastic service, excellent food, and a great atmosphere. I calculated our meal cost before paying and it was around $5 higher on the bill presented than what it was listed on the menu. My new favorite brewery. This place has something for everyone! First off, they have one of the best NA beers I've ever had. I combined it with the best pretzel I've ever had. I ended up going back two more times during my stay. They have indoor and outdoor, main restaurant and two roof tops, savory and sweet (they serve ice cream outside) and they even had live music. It will be the first place I visit on my return to Anchorage. Well done! They make their own soda and have a nice gift shop as well. read more

Stopped in for fish & chips and local beer. I'm so glad I did! I had halibut, and it was excellent. Light, crispy batter, and tender fish with no fishy taste! I'm glad that they had beer flights because I was unable to decide what kind I wanted. With some assistance from the bartender I chose 4 beers and every single one of them was wonderful. I would absolutely go back if I'm ever in Anchorage again. It does get a little bit loud and it gets very crowded so be prepared to either wait, or sit at the bar. It is open seating, you check in at the host stand and they'll give you a menu and you just find a place to sit. All in all it was a wonderful time and the food was great. We had been to the Healy/Denali location with a large group and enjoyed it so decided to have a late lunch/early dinner at the Anchorage location. At 3 pm, this place was hopping, so much so that we were given menus and told we could grab any open space at the bar or high tops in the bar area. Lucky for us, we found a two person high top. Hubby had the Halibut fish and chips with two pieces (three is an option) and I had the spicy vegan Buddha bowl. Interesting mix of ingredients (everything from fresh purple cabbage, roasted chickpeas, roasted sweet potatoes and cashews) but the combination worked and was filling and delicious. I've had buffalo burger before but this nine was much tastier and had and was so messy like a good big burger should. It was good and with jalapeños and cheese it was on point. I was in beautiful Anchorage and wanted to grab some lunch. 49th state brewing was perfect because it wasn't far from my hotel and because it was so cold outside, I didn't want my walk to exceed 15 minutes. I was really hungry so I got there right when they opened at 11 a.m. I was able to be seated immediately and opted to sit upstairs where the tables were lower as compared to downstairs where the tables were high tops. Off the bat the food is phenomenal. For starters I got their popular handmade Bavarian pretzel. It was perfectly seasoned with butter and salt and the pretzel itself was soft and fluffy. It came with a side of cheese which was just as tasty. I was a little nervous it would taste like the melted cheese you eat at an amusement park- but this cheese had fantastic quality. One really neat thing about this brewery is they make their own fountain drinks! I tried the raspberry one and as you can see they aren't shy about the portions! The drink was really good. It had a great flavor to it, and a nice balance. The raspberry wasn't overpowering which I'm grateful for. For my entree I had the Yak burger that came with a side of tater tots. My waiter recommended I get it cooked at medium to keep it juicy. Typically I'm a medium well to well done type of girl, but I decided to trust his judgement and he was right! The burger was huge, messy, and delicious. The medium was definitely a good call. It was juicy but not so red where it would be off putting! Overall, I had a really incredible dining experience at 49th state brewing. And the prices were unbelievably reasonable. My meal came out to about $52 (not including my tip). I would love to come back when it's a bit warmer and sit outside- the views from the restaurant are phenomenal. Also, shout out to my waiter! Bad service, bad food When we went up to the hostess to get a table, she said it was going to be a 55 min wait unless we want to sit on the roof. We said that was fine. She seemed annoyed, but led us to a table anyway. To be fair, she seemed annoyed at the party before us and parties after us. 49th State Brewing comes highly recommended, likely due to its great location, set up and feel. During the summer months there's also an outdoor area that has live music. The wait for anything in the building was 45 minutes and there were many open tables. I get it, perhaps they were short staffed, were on a shift flip or we were just misquoted. Not too big of a deal, so we just chose to dine outside at the food truck they run as one of their options during the summer. What a mistake and I hope the interior dining is better, but I can't comment on it other than the wait. Service at the truck was VERY SLOW, staff was not attentive and even somewhat rude. Food took FOREVER but it didn't really make sense because my dog came out still frozen in the center (or at least very chilled). I threw it away and spit out the first bite- I ordered a Brawt so I couldn't take the chance of getting sick. The other dogs we got were small and wimpy for the prices being paid. The smash burger- that was great and the was pretzel also great. Local sodas - delicious. Normally I would have complained and let them have the chance to fix the food, because shit happens, but the counter staff was so rude on the get, I assume they'd not care, and who knows... plus no one has 30 minutes to wait for a hot dog. $80 experiment that we ended up having to have second lunch to fix. I would say... come give it a try but don't get excited just because it keeps getting recommended. They're still figuring out how to be more than a brewery. read more
