I should have managed my expectations when I saw the gargoyle of a clown on the cafe rooftop. Still, I was intrigued by the adventurous fish options on the lunch menu and hoped I had found an underrated gem. I tried the halibut tacos. The tacos looked okay but didn't show my tastebuds any love. A few small tweaks could easily turn these tacos into something crave-worthy, without spiking the food costs. A zippier salsa or sauce, a pop of acidity, a little bit of heat or crunch could really bring them to life. The biggest con would be when the halibut and fries I ordered took forever to be served up. When I did get it, it was practically swimming in fryer oil !!! And of course the breading was soggy. $27 for carne asada quesadilla and a side of fries. Worth it? Definitely not. Fries were over seasoned, nothing special about quesadilla.

I stopped to try the reindeer crunch-wrap and it was AWESOME. This thing is hefty and delicious, you won't be left hungry. I got the fried pickles along with it thinking I needed more, but it ended up being extra. The fried pickles were great, too. They slice them into spears before frying, which is different than what I'm used to and kind of nice, it was more like eating french fries. The service was fast and the food is great, but it was a little awkward trying to collect my order without dropping it. There were the two boxes, plus ranch for the pickles and sour cream for the crunch-wrap, but no bag to put it in. It wouldn't have been so difficult except for trying to take it all into the car at once; at least hand items out slowly if they're going out without a bag. Balancing boxes and condiments is not enjoyable. I really like this place; it's so delicious and the portion sizes are huge. I'm not sure what I'm going to try next, but I know I'll be back. read more

This was my first time eating here so I'm not sure if my experience was the way it was because of post covid or if this is how it usually is, but it was "ehh". I'd definitely recommend trying other local places before settling on this one! For our food, we got the onion rings (a MUST for me at new places), halibut tacos, and their fish and chips. Personally, I was highly disappointed. Not only was everything fried, but the food was still bathing and glistening in its cooking oil. The halibut in both the tacos and the fish and chips were over cooked and inconsistent. The fries tasted like it still needed to be fried for another couple minutes and the onion rings were stale. Also today was super hot and nice, the beer we ordered (on tap) was warm (sad time for this Alaskan). Don't get me wrong - what they're attempting with their atmosphere has a lot of potential! Love this concept: let's throw high quality coffee + unique Alaskan substantive food in shipping containers with a drive through and a patio. I'm there! I would have come here anyway, but the Groupon definitely was an added bonus. I tried the reindeer burger (when in Rome!) which was a slight bit sweet but similar to a traditional burger in all other ways, as well as fish tacos (great fish, a bit too much toppings). Overall, i thought both dishes were really great and good portions of food for the prices (all under $14). In the AM it is mainly a coffee bar/drive through (no inside seating). I snagged a caramel macchiato and it was heavenly. Pro-tip: the sleeve of the coffee cup is a coupon to come back for food later - $1 off! The ambiance was great - sunny and open - the staff were a tiny bit slow but super friendly, and I really enjoyed the pet friendly foods and patio despite not having one. The coffee isn't horrible but the owner is. I stopped on his property, while walking to work, at the time it says they are opened, and got yelled at to "get the fuck off [his] property" because I asked if they were opened, paused, and then asked when they might open. I had an hour to kill. I work security for a living and customer service is a huge part of my job. I'm actually the lead security officer at a nice hotel. I will never go back to this joint. I won't even step foot on the property. Better yet, I have purchased coffee here before and it's OK. You can get better and faster elsewhere. I was going to make it a regular stop on the way to work because it's one of a few places open before 7 in this neck of the woods but now I wouldn't even recommend it to my worst enemy. Came here a few times with a Groupon. Food was good (3.5-4 stars) but the flow not so much. In the winter time, it was nice since there's 2 service windows on each side of the "truck"/trailer that you can pull up to for service. But was just there again in the summer and I followed a group of walk-up folks who ordered on one side of the "truck" and cars were ordering on the other side which seemed logical (maybe it wasn't, but no one corrected us). After waiting 45+ minutes in line (there were 4 parties in front of me, 6 people) I finally got to order my coffee (probably should've ordered food after that long wait). If it wasn't to use my expired Groupon because I was in the area I would've left. The worker was really nice but man the flow was just not working well that day (cost them half a star... Watching something's after working in the food industry really frustrates me. Take care of your people because they are taking care of you. No one should ever have to work as hard as this young man did today. Also the one Barista/food runner who was like a top just spinning around person after person and helping run food was also having to work to hard. Not seen but i am imagine you only have one cook trying to manage the madness happening back there. You have it managing 22+ people with a smile. He is amazing. But he is doing the job of 3 people. Hire a Food runner/ buser hire a server - at least one. on a busy day have two. that way he can pour beers and work the bar. This is where the majority of your money will come from. so allow him to make it for you. You have to spend money to make money. He Acknowledge us right away and was very polite. He was also pouring 8 beers and running food. He has 6 groups of 2, 2 - 3 tops and a 6 top. He is 5 stars all his own! pay him more because he is the only reason we stayed. Holy crap while writing this i watched him go make drinks in the coffee shop as well. He is amazing! But doing to much for his job. You should see how much time he has to waste getting in and out of the coffee shop and bar instead of working the bar seats. This place is really good. They have some great local coffee. We watched a parked car in the drive thru wait well over 30 mins for a meal. then the car that was behind them that waited for 20+ mins just got coffee. Quoting people 30-40 mins for food after having to wait in a line sucks. Not the experience anyone wants. Outdoor area is nice but when it's unattended like it was when he had to go make his own smoothies you built a line of people waiting to pay and who wanted beer. Also people smoking outside sucks as we are trying to enjoy ourselves. Food: Fried Pickles! Hard to find in town and always a treat. The Spears are a nice touch just thick i think they could be cut in 1/2 for smaller but more batter per pickle. still tasted great. The kearny Asada tacos tasted great but the flower tortilla was dry and might have been left out. Still salsa was amazing and tasted great. the tacos also tasted so good. Overall I am going to put all the bad into the fact Covid-19 has hurt us all. But now that we are open you need to get more staff in here to provide the service needed. I am going to come back and try it again in a few months and will update my review then but until then Bar man 5 star food 4 star wait/service 1 star only positive was he warned us and was pleasant. outside 3 star - you might not allow smoking but how could anyone have time to tell him no to smoke because you have one person working in such a large area. I've read the reviews so I'll add we went today, on a Thursday at like 1pm, weren't too many folks there. Food was bomb. I got the Alaska Burrito and it was banging! I'm not a huge fan of fish chips but fries were good, wife loved the Halibut and the chips and salsa were good (out of a bag and bottle). But let me say it again, the burrito was bomb! Customer service was great. Young dude working the non-bar side was cool and helpful and so was the young lady on the bar side. We sat down there after ordering and she immediately came out with menus letting us know she could help us. I ate the Reindeer Crunchwrap. Tasted really good with a lot of flavor. Bad thing was, the meat was dripping with grease. The "crunch" was nonexistent from the chips soaking in grease and the bottom of the tortilla was solid gold from the grease. I originally thought the bottom was grilled with cheese on it to give it the color, but no, it was grease from the meat. I had to eat it with paper towels and a pool had formed from grease when I was finished. Also had the fried pickles. Perfect, no complaints. Had a Cafe Mocha, somehow, this tasted weird/gross. Hard to describe, but a very earthy-dirt flavor. I couldn't finish it. Even though the food tasted good, the grease and mocha just put me off. I know I didn't order the most healthy items, but they could have been prepared much better. 99% will not return. read more

This review is being based on the food alone. I say this because I've dropped by here on another occasion and got their vanilla lavender matcha green tea and it was SO PERFECT AND GOOD. Anyway, It's Quirky, fun, hipster, coffee hut/beer garden-ish/lunch spot. We came here for lunch today and I got their veggie tacos and my husband got their halibut fish and chips. They were pretty good. I kinda wish they would've put some other Tex-mexy veggies in there, but the brown rice & quinoa were still satisfying. It came with 3 tacos filled with brown rice & quinoa, lettuce, and cheese with some salsa, sour cream, and chips on the side. They were good, but nothing super special. I think they could've used some more seasoning or added some other veggie in there. I like that they offer vegetarian options and these tacos could've easily been made vegan by omitting the cheese, however, if you do that, I recommend asking for extra salsa because they will be even more bland. My husbands halibut fish and chips were really good. We thought the breading was perfect. Not too much & not too greasy or salty. You could still taste the fish through the breading (in a good way$") and I also REALLY like their tartar sauce. Service was great. They were pretty quick and friendly. We were recently in town for work. We usually stay at the other end of downtown, but our regular hotel was sold out. The upside was that our backup hotel was near AK Alchemist. We walked up and ordered two coffees and a breakfast burrito with smoked salmon. The americanos were super hot (which I love), and the coffee was great. The breakfast burrito took a few minutes to prepare, and it was worth the wait. My husband declared it the best breakfast burrito he's ever had. I was only supposed to have a bite but ate half of it.
