    The Chili AK Salmon Bowl
    Marc H.

Stopped in for lunch between our cruise drop off and flight departure. The place was hopping on a Monday afternoon (Memorial Day). It was "seat yourself," and we found a two top. The servers seemed a little new, but the service was good and friendly. They carry Frontier brand sodas which we found to be excellent for their flavor. We got root beer and ripe raspberry soda. I ordered the Chili AK Salmon Bowl which our server confirmed is wild salmon. My wife ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich with fries. Both meals were really good. I especially liked the sauce on the salmon bowl so much so that I asked for a little more only to be charged for the extra sauce. I also noticed they include a service charge on the bill (note that this was not gratuity). They told us it was to help them get seasonal labor and to cover overhead. Maybe this is an Alaska thing, but with menu prices as high as these, why would you need to add a service charge? Pricing and nickel & diming aside, I would recommend this place.

Food and services are excellent. Love the Yak burger, very delicious. King Salmon was very tender and tasty too.

In Anchorage for my baby daddy's work trip and was craving fish and chips. I saw all the good ratings on here and wasn't expecting to experience such horrible service. Right when we entered it was a question of whether we would like to sit upstairs or if you chose to sit downstairs it was first come first serve with any empty table you find. The hostess was very adamant with telling us if we chose to sit at the long wooden table downstairs that we must sit at only the ends of the table. Weird but ok...considering the long table was completely empty during our entire visit. So we sat down and never saw a server come to our table. My baby daddy went to tell someone that we were ready to order and they said they would find our server. When our server came to us, his name was Ryan. He couldn't look me in the eyes and you could tell he was annoyed that he had to work. Never asked us if we wanted anything to drink. He also messed up a small modification in our order and when my baby daddy asked about it he was mumbling things and walked away. He was definitely a little off to me or maybe just hates his job? The fish and chips were decent. They came out warm not hot which is a first for me with fish and chips. The fries were bland and a little limp lol. The sauces with the fish and chips were good. The batter wasn't as crispy as I hoped. Oh and they didn't give me my side of coleslaw that was supposed to come with my meal but I didn't realize it until later. Anyways, the service really left a bad taste in my mouth...will never return nor recommend, not that they care anyways! Lol

The beer was good. I ordered the nitro stout which was very good. For dinner I ordered the Parmesan crusted halibut served with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. I would have preferred grilled or blacked halibut but it was still pretty good.

One of my favorite stops in Alaska. The beer was excellent. The pretzel was huge! Service from Carlos and Abby behind the bar was great. I loved the vibe and wish I was in the area for a longer period of time.

Best restaurant we ate at on our Alaska trip per my husband, and I concur! A little bit of a wait for the second floor seating, but we chose the first come first serve option for the first floor seating. We ordered the crab grilled cheese, yak burger and a classic flight of beer. All of them were delicious. The fries that came with both entrees were tasty and so was the chowder that came with the grilled cheese. Wanted to get the bread pudding but was far too full. 66 dollars for our meal, pre tip- which is reasonable price considering Alaskan standards.

Came in just for snacks and to try their beer. Great stuff all around! Food was good as was the beer. Lots of seating everywhere. Three big screens that I remember, all playing sports. It's a good time here!

Stopped in for fish & chips and local beer. I'm so glad I did! I had halibut, and it was excellent. Light, crispy batter, and tender fish with no fishy taste! I'm glad that they had beer flights because I was unable to decide what kind I wanted. With some assistance from the bartender I chose 4 beers and every single one of them was wonderful. I would absolutely go back if I'm ever in Anchorage again. It does get a little bit loud and it gets very crowded so be prepared to either wait, or sit at the bar. It is open seating, you check in at the host stand and they'll give you a menu and you just find a place to sit. All in all it was a wonderful time and the food was great. I don't like fish, so for me to say that, you know it was good!

The food was awesome and the place is decorated nicely. The service could have been a little better due to the fact it took forever for the server to bring our to go containers. I will say their Wedge salad was pretty darn tasty. Their sandwiches come with fries but you don't get a bunch of fries. One of our guys has the salad and to add a skewer of steak the cost was $19 which I thought was rather steep. Overall the food was really good, I would definitely come back. For me a burger or sandwich would be for 2 meals. I did get the steak sandwich and that was really tasty.

While in Anchorage, we wanted to taste the fresh fish we kept hearing about. Our entrees were super delicious and fresh. We split the smoked salmon and also the fish and chips and really enjoyed them. The craft beer paired perfectly with our meal. The servers work well as a team and our orders were quick and easy. The atmosphere in the bar is a little rustic and almost felt like a lodge. I would recommend this place if you're downtown.

Fun and lively place. They said 1 hr wait. Had halibut fish n chips and it was good. Very crowded and many young people. It's one of the few places near the hotel. Things close early here. Not much to do after 7 or 8 pm. $30+ meal.

Yes, and if you're more comfortable, there is a full regular dining space that's not the bar area located upstairs.

    Do they have happy hour?

Hello, Happy hours for drink specials are not allowed per Alaskan liquor laws. The pub often has pop-up to go beer specials and other great offerings though.

Most often, I leave a steak house thinking I could make a better steak for a fraction of the price at home. This was not the case here. The service was also good, which is a nice change for the area. We live here and quite frankly, the service in the Anchorage area is usually pretty marginal. So, that was a pleasant surprise. However, the sides are quite expensive and billed as "family style" but they are a single serving really. The exception was the Parker House rolls which I think came out 5 to an order. They were pulled apart and the sides of the rolls were dry, as if they had been plated up and set under a heat lamp for too long. The risotto was prepared incorrectly. It was mushy with no hint of the classic al dente. I think if they can't take the time to cook that dish correctly, they should consider taking it off the menu as it is a marker for a good meal in my opinion. The wedge salad was pretty standard fare, with a couple of heirloom tomato slices that were also mushy (although, I can forgive that given where we live as the lettuce was crisp and nice) The other side we ordered was a special, fiddlehead ferns, served braised. They were tasty, and the best non steak item we had, but a small portion and, I think $23, which seemed quite expensive. I think the next time we go, we will just share a steak with a glass of wine and skip the overpriced 15-25 side dishes.

However this was my birthday dinner so I was particularly disappointed. I reserved a table for three in the whisky bar area. We arrived about five minutes early and were told by one of the hostesses that the party at the table just paid and should be leaving soon. About 20 minutes passed before another said the party still had not left even though one of them talked to the server. Eventually I agreed to have us seated in the main dining room. Almost immediately afterward I saw two parties leave the whisky bar so I asked to be moved there, which according to one of the hostesses is where we originally supposed to be. It was over 30 minutes later when we finally got the table I reserved. This left a sour taste in my mouth and I considered leaving at one point, but I was really looking forward to this dinner. For dinner I ordered the Komorebi Old Fashioned and the Dark Horse as I often do, We also shared the whisky pork buns and everything was delicious. Dessert was not as enjoyable. I ordered their espresso martini, the Electric Stolt, which was decent enough. Lacking on the coffee flavor in my opinion. I also ordered the chocolate birthday cake which, aside from the cherries in the cake, tasted like any generic cake you would get from a grocery store. Their other desserts, like the matcha panna cotta and goma silk bar, are much more flavorable. Service overall was fine, but we got the check before my boyfriend could order another drink so we felt somewhat rushed out. Considering this is the only time I've had issues with being seated for reservations, I would go back, but this was my least pleasant dining experience here, unfortunately.

I have been there eating several times this winter and obviously homeless people would come to the door and be given water, hot soup, half a sandwich, etc. that just made me love this place more. Now to the food. First of all I had the meatball sub which was not only delicious but super filling. The meat was very well seasoned, and the fresh basil just made the marinara pop even more, add the freshly shaved Parmesan cheese and you've got something special. The homemade bread puts this thing into overdrive! Crispy on the outside, light, delicate but not falling apart and heavy enough to hold together all that deliciousness without being filling like you just ate a large pizza. Now to the ridiculous tomato basil soup. I love the clam chowder but the tomato basil is my favorite. Savory, full of flavor, smooth, creamy and not greasy. This in my opinion is the perfect pairing to the meatball sub. You're welcome! The customer service here is amazing too just like the owners and the food. You will always be greeted by a smiling face, and treated like family. You will not regret stopping here. I've eaten the Meatball sub, The Philly, the lasagna and The Gyro ( lamb and chicken) all have been 10 out of 10. The ambiance is like a neighborhood dinner with a small dining room. Service was sorely lacking, and staff weren't all that friendly at all. I don't require red carpet service, but the vibe was definitely more along the lines of "what do you want, order and leave us alone." Yikes. To keep things on the less expensive side, we mainly ordered from the happy hour menu, and thought we'd go tapas style, order a few things to share. Food was ok, but some of the flavors were a bit off, so a couple of items were sent back and we ordered something else instead. The crab fried rice was pretty tasty, I do recommend that. Even when we needed something (utensils or sauces), it took ages to get it--and this was often after the servers had failed to bring it with our food. This was just not a good visit overall. We opted to sit in the bar area hoping it would lead to decent service (that's usually our experience when sitting in the bar area), but NOPE. We used to have a Sullivan's in my city, and I was bummed when it closed; this location just made me sad. I don't know if the lackadaisical attitude is because they don't care about visitors they don't expect to see again or what, but a little friendliness goes a long way. I can deal with lackluster food or subpar service, but it's really hard to get both and leave feeling satisfied. $50 gift card wasted, but lesson learned. Next time we go to Alaska, we definitely won't eat here.
