This is, per many locals, the place to go. Since Alaska is the 49th State, the name makes a whole lot of sense. Be forewarned- it's busy. We came for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon in January 2025. They were pretty dead. The bottom floor is all open seating. We chose to go upstairs. Our server was ok. She kind of acted like she didn't want to be there. By the end she had perked up a bit. We got two beer flights and I was surprised they were out of quite of bit of the beers. They had a s'mores stout that was pretty good. They also had an apple pie ale and it tasted like apple pie. It was interesting. The soft pretzel with beer cheese is really good. For lunch I had the crab grilled cheese and I did not like it. I should have known when I order crab sandwiches or anything other than straight crab it tastes really fishy. Plus the cheese was a strange kind and it was barely melted. Fries were ok and the seafood chowder wasn't bad. I'm just not into the food I guess here. read more

My husband and I came here on a whim. We wanted to sit on either the second floor balcony or the roof and the wait was only about 30 minutes even with the pride celebration! VERY LGBTQ+ Friendly!! While you wait they have a FULL beer garden on the lowest level where you can even get brats and pretzels etc while you wait OR instead! We ended up only waiting about 10-15 minutes and were seated on the rooftop! This is a very trendy locations with incredible views; mountains, ocean and city. I'm not sure how much alcohol they put it in it but if it's a lot then it is DANGEROUS. My husband ordered the arctic roots Alaska cider which was like a more bitter apple orchard. For food, we ordered the Mexican street corn for a starter. It was pretty good, all though it was very lemony which my hubby didn't like. I wish it would have had more mayo in it like true Mexican corn. Would not recommend. I get the long wait when there are cruise ships in town however, once I got my text it was another 10 mins until they sat us. They took my party and another party together up the stairs which was strange bc no communication if we were all sitting together or what. Our waiter and trainer came over the introduce themselves. Then when we were ready to order it was just the trainee. He didn't know how to enter a certain beverage and said he would be back bc we were even ready to order food. He left and didn't come back so we had to waive down the trainer who took our order. We only ordered drinks and nachos. The nachos took forever and when they finally came a women just brought the nachos down set them down and turned around no customer service asking if everything looks good or can they get you anything else or even just a here ya go would have been good. The nachos were cold like they were re sitting out forever. We had to flag the trainee down and they put in another order. What seemed to be like a manager brought the other nachos out. Still not as heated as I would have expected for nachos but I was hangry by this point. When it was time to pay the bill the trainer made it seem like the manager made it right with us but yet still charged us for everything. This place was recommended because of the location. The view is really beautiful and the atmosphere is upbeat. They have Yak Burgers which are a must have and was really good and grainy! The Yak burger was cooked perfectly and all burgers have a cheese or spicy sauce. I had the ELK burger which was ok. I definitely recommend the Yak burger. The rest of our friends had fish and chips and burgers which were all yummy. Service is ok. Most of the workers were there for summer and our waiter announced more then once that he was tired and ready to go home which was as a bit unprofessional along with catching him a few times drinking beer in the waiter area. When I went this past week, my aunt had to ask four times for her drink to be brought to her, but that's not always the case. I think it very much depends on who is your server. The atmosphere is the best part of this place. When we sit upstairs, the lower lights makes the room so cozy. The music is a little loud, but not unbearable. I love the mac and cheese. My sister had the Alaska King Crab Ravioli and there was something off with the sauce. We didn't enjoy/finish that. The NY Strip was to die for and I don't usually like steak. read more

We loved this place. It's our first time in Alaska, so we figured we had to try their popular brewhouses - and this one did not disappoint! Even though it was a little rainy, we sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful view of the mountains in the distance. They even gave us blankets!! We were invited to seat ourselves and found two spots around a gas fire pit. We ordered their specialty drafts, and for dinner, a Poke Bowl, and Fish and Chips. We can both say that the Fish and Chips were firm yet tender like eating a white steak. Juicy and breaded to perfection. The Poke Bowl was deconstructed. The freshness and compilation of different flavors made it hard to resist eating the entire thing! Portions were perfect! Service was expected to be a little slower, as it was packed!!! When in Anchorage, stopping by 49th State Brewing is a must. Pro tip: if you aren't able to make reservations online, stop by anyway and take a chance like we did. Turns out the app wasn't working and they weren't booked up. This is a massive place and they are really efficient. Our waitstaff was incredibly, friendly and helped us narrow down a few things from the menu. We sat on the rooftop deck - yes, completely worth the wait. Gorgeous views and a slight breeze in the air made the night even more yummy. The food did not disappoint. Yelpers helped with fabulous pics and descriptions and we ended up ordering a few burgers and the meatloaf (so good and such cool presentation). Folks are great here: fast, efficient and attentive. We were well taken care of. And wow, the burgers were amazing. Loved the pretzel bun and tots. Totally wish we had another few nights in Anchorage. Shocking decline in Quality I'm appalled and disappointed. We ordered pickup from 49th State, a place we used to like, and the experience was insulting from start to finish. First red flag: our 4-pack of sodas wasn't in the bag. We went back to the counter and were told they were sold out after we had already paid. No one checked the receipt, no one said anything until we confronted them. Were we just supposed to walk out and eat the loss? Still, we held out hope for the food. That was a mistake. The brewpub nachos with added steak (which we paid extra for) came with no steak at all, no toppings at all too. Just stale, bland chips and cheap cheese. Zero seasoning. It looked and tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp all day. And the blueberry pie? It's supposed to come with vanilla ice cream in a separate cup. This time, someone had smeared the melted ice cream inside the corners of the box as if to deliberately ruin it. We spent time, money, and gas on this dinner. And what we got back was careless service, bad food, and a complete lack of basic customer respect. 49th State needs to take a hard look at how far they've fallen. I don't think you could ever pay me to ever come back to this place again. read more

Unfortunately, on a rainy day, those areas are closed and they lose a good amount of seating. As such, the place was a madhouse, even for a late lunch. Very surprising steady stream of diners even on a random Tuesday. Luckily, for two, there wasn't a wait. Really cool space with some decent vegetarian options. I got the spicy Buddha bowl and it was a perfect meal for a chilly rainy day after I'd been out hiking all morning. They were hustling to get their patrons served and food came out quickly. Loved it!! We loved it so much that we went to 49th state brewing twice during our trip to Alaska, once in Denali, and one in Anchorage. My personal favorite was the sour beer TIGER'S BLOOD!!!!! The food was incredible as well. Huge portions. Both the Elk and Buffalo burgers are worth a try. King grab grilled cheese was absolutely delicous. Pizza if you're feeling less adventurous. Do the beer flight if you want options. Generally pretty crowded so be prepared to wait a little bit for table seating. Bar seating is first come first serve so you can scout. Arrived just as a bus load of tourists arrived, was offered a seat at the bar. The place was packed, but not too loud at the bar. A number of TVs line the outside walls. Micah was quick to offer a food and a beer menu. I went with the Solarcrisp Pilsner, and a sleeping lady burger, pickles and mustard only. Micah was very communicative, returning several times to confirm exactly what I wanted. It was amusing, yet respectable as he clearly wanted to get it right. The burger was served with a thick pickle slice tooth-picked atop the bun. I was sad to discover it was sort of a sweet pickle. But the pickles on the burger were dill. The burger and fries were delicious, meat charred and juicy, the cheddar cheese, pickles and generous amount of yellow mustard were exactly what I was wanting. The fries were thick cut and properly cooked. While I couldn't finish the last few fries, I really wanted dessert and ordered the bread pudding with ice cream. I ordered coffee as well. The bread pudding was warm, moist and sweet. The sauce was almost a syrup consistency. I couldn't finish all of that either. Sadly, the coffee tasted like it had been in the pot awhile. Not super hot. Further, the half and half wasn't fresh, but those little plastic containers. But I drank it and asked for a refill. The second serving came out a bit warmer. read more
