Any kind of good appliance repair shop is hard to find these days, and fortunately for me, this shop is right down the street. I've been here twice, and most recently I was treated like I was a long-time client and neighbor. As soon as I walked in and it was 15 minutes to closing time with my ancient vacuum in hand (I didn't mean to do that) I was enthusiastically greeted with, "Hi! What's going on with your Hoover?" I immediately felt like I was going to get help. I explained the situation and she knew immediately what to do for it, and 10 minutes later I was out the door with my repaired vacuum. It turned out to be a minor repair and the quoted cost to fix it was very inexpensive ($10). No one tried to sell me anything while I was there, although they have some tempting cool European vacuums that looks great. Anyway, this place is as good as gold, so if you find yourself in need, don't think twice about coming her first before you decide to buy a new vacuum. She said they don't make them (Hoovers) like they used to and my 10+ year old Hoover is a solid machine (new ones, like a lot of things, just aren't made the same). read more

I brought my Dyson vacuum in today because I thought the brush was not rotating. They met me at the door enthusiastically and within moments had my vacuum plugged in, showed me that my issue was user error (a button I didn't know to press!), and sent me on my way without charging me for the mini-lesson in how to use my vacuum! I stopped in the other day because the hose on my Dyson was getting suction but the floor suction was not working. I was all prepared to drop it off and have it repaired, but the lady working that day disassembled a couple of parts, found the problem (I had accidentally sucked something up that was blocking the air flow), and had it working again in less than a minute. And she didn't even charge me, which means that if I have any other vacuum related problems, I will definitely go back to ABC because I appreciated that. read more

Had two dyson vacuums that needed serving so I stopped at the Dyson vacuum repair on 183. The only person in the place was a customer. I heard people working in the back but none ever came out to even say "we will be with you soon". After 20 minutes I went to the door of the repair area and a guy saw me and said" someone will be with you soon". Nope. I sat there another 10 minutes and finally the other customer said "they don't say it on the door but you can't just drop your vacuum off snd come back. They make you sit and wait while they repair it." He said he had been there for over an hour. All I can say is piss poor customer service and who had time in their life to wait to have something repaired. I drove a few miles to ABC Vacuum Warehouse. They met me as I came in, fixed a quick issue with one of my vacuums and I left the other. That's how it should be done! I'll be back and won't ever go to the dyson place again. read more

I can definitely vouch for them being 100% honest. I described my vacuum cleaner's problems and model number over the phone to Crystal and she diagnosed what the cheapest case scenario repair was and then looked up what it would cost to just by a new version of the same model and then told me not to come in and to just use the same money to just go out and buy a new one. I don't think I'm revealing any important man-secrets here, but guys have a "fix-it" gene that essentially makes it difficult to do the obvious, like ask for directions or admit we don't know what we're doing. I'm not even talking about major issues like relationships, but stuff like when your car won't start we'll open the hood and ponder very seriously, before you call Triple-A. So when I noticed the only joint purchase I was awarded custody of - a screaming yellow colored Eureka - wasn't quite sucking up carpet goo or chasing away the cats like it used to, I downloaded the manual online, disassembled & thoroughly cleaned each component, and replaced the two appendix items listed as "parts you'll need to replace" - the belt and a weird filter cup inside the wind tunnel thingy. The damn thing looks & works like it's brand new now. The point is ABC Vacuum has been in Austin a zillion years, they sell and service a hundred different vacuum cleaners, but they also carried those two specific parts I needed for my apparently discontinued screaming yellow colored Eureka. And it cost me a total of $24.86. It's hard not to be a fan of that scenario, especially when I didn't give the process much thought - it was all pretty instinctive. read more

Mom needed a new vacuum. Her 35 year old Kenmore canister finally went to where all good vacuum cleaners go when they die - the dump. She has an Oreck upstairs for the carpet but needed something for the hardwood floors - which just got replaced by the way due to a water leak. Here's a tip: don't ever change your hardwood floors if it isn't absolutely necessary. It's a huge freakin' mess!!!! As you can imagine, the vacuum purchase was a top priority. Mom is picky. She has to have a canister since she wants the long hose for the ceiling fan. She is also convinced everything will scratch her floor. She didn't want the Dyson (which I own) because the wheels are plastic or the brushes turn and MIGHT scratch the floor. When we walked in a red-haired gentleman said he isn't a salesman but a repairman and will be happy to help us. Right off the bat, he recommended Dyson. Online we saw Dyson's with rubber wheel covers for the international units, but not for the US. She just wasn't going to be happy with the plastic wheels. Personally I don't think they will scratch, but it's the type of thing that will eat at her forever. I can see her on the floor with a magnifying glass looking for scratches. Understanding exactly what Mom was needing, the erudite vacuum repairman/salesman directed her to a Sebo Air Belt K2 Hunter. This little machine is about a 1/3 of the size of the old Kenmore, but very quiet. It has a place for attachments and the cord is several feet longer than the old Kenmore's cord. And yes there is a tiny rubber strip around the wheels, but I don't see what difference it will make to be honest. As an added bonus for someone very particular about keeping scratches off the floor and paint, he pointed out the cushioned sides around the canister. Mom was sold at that moment, price be damned. And honestly after witnessing the suction power, I was too. I think I still prefer Dyson for carpets, but this is a nice little unit I'd be proud to own. So our friendly and helpful salesman (yes he sold the hell out of this thing, he's graduated from repairman to salesman now), then proceeds to knock off a $120 off the price and throw in an 8 pack of bags. This brought the price to $379. A cursory internet search shows prices anywhere from $419-$499! Five year warranty is included. They will service the vacuum cleaner right there at the shop. Why the hell anyone would go to Best Buy, Target, Sears, or Big Box whatever to buy a vacuum while ABC is conveniently here in Austin is beyond me. I know it might be easier to walk into the Big Box and slap down a credit card and not give it much thought, but ABC is really interested in showing you a vacuum that fits your needs and promises to service it if needs it. Very friendly and helpful. Great prices. Highly recommended! 5 Stars! UPDATE 1-15-09: Still the same great service! For our new house, the wife and I went and picked up the same Sebo K2 Hunter my mother bought, as well as a new Dyson Animal Ball for upstairs. They worked out an AMAZING deal for both. Found this place on yelp. 4.5 stars. They must have lowered their service standard recently because all the great reviews do not reflect my experience here. First of all let me just say the folk here are really nice and friendly and nothing personal against them. But. here is what went down for me. Simple fix for our vacuum. Likely only need a belt or roll change but just wanted to be sure. -Bring in vacuum for repair on Friday(day 1). told "we will take a look at it and should be done in a couple of days if just belt and roll, if something else, call you tomorrow or monday." -Nothing for a week. I call back the next Friday(day 7). Told " yours is the next one up we will get it done in very soon, call you back tomorrow." -Nothing happened. I call back next monday(day10). told " Yours is the next one on the bench." I said we've had it there for a week now. reply" we can have it ready in an hour." It was traffic hr so I said alright, thanks. I will go pick it up tomorrow. told " it will be ready" Next morning, went for pick up. Guy there says its not ready will have to wait for technician to arrive. need about 5hrs. said their competitor went out of business and they are swamped. the wait is usually 10days. Why is this news again? didn't know 10 days ago? Called ahead and confirmed vacuum ready the next day and picked up vacuum. Day 12. All it needed was a belt and roll change. tried at the stored seem to run fine. Not too expensive, $20. Got home within 2 uses, vacuum clogged up again. WTF? Again, nice folks but really can't recommend this business. read more

We had an Oreck that should have been under warranty but without an Oreck warranty store in Austin anymore we had to take the vacuum somewhere else when it stopped working. ABC Vacuum understood the frustration of being under warranty and not having anywhere to take the vacuum and helped us out quickly and inexpensively, turned out it was just a minor issue that took 5 minutes to fix. read more

This may seem like a minor victory, but when you're home alone and your Bug Killing Boyfriend Unit isn't around and you use the longest extension on your vacuum cleaner to suck up and hopefully kill a big giant cockroach, you're going to want to get yourself a new bag, pronto. (I know bagless is the whole rage, but please, I never want to see dirt, bugs, and cat puke ever again, really Dyson, really.) I had one vacuum and it stopped working, so I borrowed my friends and that one also stopped working.. calling on ABC Vacuum Warehouse. I'm always hesitant to get any of my belongings repaired because I don't know these people and you're kind of trusting their faces and yelp reviews to make decisions. Well, THANK YA'LL!, The staff were kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. Who knew so much about vacuums?These people do! I was given an estimated repair time of 7 days. They called that afternoon with both being repaired, explaining both vacuums had some clogs that they removed. The price was fair for repairs and I was only without a vacuum for less than a day! Honestly, both of my vacuums work so well I may just bring them in for regular maintenance. It's like they are brand spanking new and I am having SOO MUCH FUN vacuuming. YAS! read more

Long story short, my Miele upright vac lost suction and after the basic troubleshooting I was able to perform via Youtube videos I realized I couldn't fix it - dirt was just being blown around the floor. Based on the outstanding reviews of this business I took it here for repair. The problem was expertly diagnosed and resolved within minutes. The person running the shop was cool as heck. I went in with the belt, learned I needed more than I thought (legitimately) and now have a working vacuum after a few minutes of assembly at home. After our 20something year old Oreck started smoking when we used it this week, we figured it was time for a brand spankin' new vacuum. I like to be thrifty (or at least pretend I am) and try to get the best possible deal, and try my hardest not to be ripped off by big chains. My dilemma began when I wanted a Dyson--- because those don't run cheap! I compared many places that sold them new and hadn't considered a refurbished one since Dyson only has a six month warranty on refurbs vs. a 5 year warranty on new ones. Right before I was going to go out to Costco to sink some dough on a compact version of an upright Dyson, I decided to check eBay to see what they could offer and low and behold there were much lower priced Dysons being sold from Austin on there. They were full sized upright refurbs, but they had me at the "3 year warranty" being offered: 6 months from Dyson, and 2.5 years from ABC Vacuums--- all parts and labor included. Bingo! We went to the showroom and we were greeted by Brian who took plenty of time with us and showed us all about the different models of refurb'd Dyson's they had to offer. (He said that if its a new Dyson and the box even gets damaged it goes back to Dyson and has to be sold as a refurb. All the parts of a refurbished machine look---and are--- brand new.) We decided on one and he even assembled it for us, told us all about each part and how to open it up, clean it out, etc. and then let us test drive it. To get a cheaper 'brand new' product from a local place with great customer service makes my local-loving heart sing! (And thus write a yelp review.) Three cheers for ABC Vacuum Warehouse! read more

I am updating my review to show that sometimes persistence and explaining WHY a problem with a company is a problem can pay off. After 3 weeks, several in-depth complaints lodged with the store manager, I did receive a call to say the steamer was ready. My issues are fully logged in my original complaint here. What I WILL say is that there's been a definite improvement in the store appearance - it's MUCH much cleaner than the previous visits I've had there. In speaking with the office manager Sandy, I have come to find a little information that at least backs up as to why there was such a problem with my servicing. It doesn't necessarily "excuse" it, but I will tell you here that: -I feel that my issues was taken directly to heart -I feel that I was truly listened to -I feel that the advice I gave to check out what people have written here was taken -I feel that my finished product is fantastic -I feel that they are truly sorry for the way it was handled. When my steamer was brought out I was blown away - it looked like a brand new machine! Got it home and it worked like a charm, pretty much as it did "out of the box". While the steps that were taken to get to this spot were not the most pleasant and very frustrating, i DO believe that the experience will serve as a growing one for the new manager of the place and I do see improvements being made, and a heartfelt apology was received for my frustration and bad experience. I'll go back again to see if those changes "stick"; it'd be great to see it doing the same upward trend in a year. read more

Respectfully sir, We dropped our vacuum cleaner for service at your store situated off Burnet Road last weekend on Saturday (March 30th) and we were SPECIFICALLY told that we would receive the vacuum cleaner definitely by today, April 5th. We were served by lady at the counter and she informed that the vacuum cleaner might even be ready by Tuesday, April 2nd. My wife called your store yesterday and she was informed that there would be an additional 25 USD expedited surcharge for the vacuum cleaner to be delivered today. She was told that otherwise it will take much longer. I am literally shocked to see that there is blatant lying by your employee and absolute disregard to customer service. I am a big supporter of small businesses, but I don't think I could ever give my hard earned money for poor service quality and lack of business ethics. Literally within seconds of entering the store, I had a probable diagnosis. They had the part I needed in stock - a quick install & test, and my vac was back in business! My Dyson brush bar stopped spinning. I tried the prescribed remedies including the 'reset' button. Didn't help. Dyson says ABC is the only authorized repair shop in Austin. Brought it there. After a couple days, got the call and was told it was working fine. No problem found. At my request they kept it a couple more days and ran it each day. Still no problem found. Magic. The good kind. I couldnt ask for much more - I had gone to another repair shop and they didnt fix my vacuums lack of suction, so I went to another shop and they didnt work on old vacuums. I guess only their new ones break ? So I watched youtube videos and saw how easy it was to do the simple belt change and decided to do that first by myself. I was checking amazon for supplies but it wasnt crystal clear which belts were needed. So I tried ABC Vacuum Warehouse and 15 seconds after walking in Crystal had already grabbed my belts ! I came back a few days later and got new filters and when 1 of the filters was only sold in a 2 pack rhey just opened it and sold me the 1 I needed ! I now have a working, sucking, 16 year old vacuum for $30 ! Cant get much easier than that. From now on Im just going to ABC first ! read more

Pros: I went in with broken vacuum and the rep took a quick look and located the problem, pulled parts and put it all back together. The cost to repair was quite low compared to buying a new machine. It took all of about 20-30 min. Cons: It was before noon and the rep wreaked of booze (my opinion!). He tried hard to sell me on a new machine. Kind of dissed my current vacuum. I know I don't have the best but it works and the cost to repair was still considerably less than a new machine. The shop is really dusty. I guess from all the dirty machines they see. I didn't want to be in there very long. But like other people posted, they really know their stuff, carry lots of parts and vacuums and were fast and affordable. read more

ABC has been my go-to for vacuums for years. Bought a Sebo Felix based on their recommendation, it suits us perfectly ( hardwoods with area rugs). Recently bought a refurbished upright for a fraction of new. Just today I brought in a back-pack vacuum to see if they had bags for it. Done and done! I have not had any repairs there, I'm a mechanical engineer so I do my own. One thing is for sure though, they have a lot of busted Dysons in there, 2 to 1 more than any other. Says something about Dysons, I think. Highly recommended, I always go to ABC first, they haven't let me down yet. read more

This is a business that truly deserves the "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" of a 5 star rating. We found ourselves at ABC during a cross-town quest for a great vacuum at a reasonable price. We had already been there - done that with a Sears Kenmore canister vac that started slowly falling apart shortly after it made it through our front door. We visited several area shops and found ourselves confronted with what we expected - some gave us a hot-air, more talk than substance sales pitch while in other stores we were ignored by the staff entirely. We stopped by ABC on a whim and were a bit underwhelmed when we walked in the front door as the showroom looks more like a large walk-in closet piled with vacuums than anything else. BUT we were instantly greeted, asked if we needed help, and then lead around to to look at the various manufacturers and models while the salesperson asked about what our needs were in a vacuum. We ended up getting a GREAT deal on a Sebo Felix vacuum (hundreds less than the other shops comparable vacuums and even less than we would have spent to replace our canister with another Sears Kenmore model). The Felix is something we never even considered before walking into ABC because it is technically an upright but has the functionality of a canister for areas like stairs. Thanks to the knowledge of the salesperson we walked out with a vacuum that fit our needs to a "T". One of the things that impressed me most about ABC is that the salesperson also took the time to show us how to do general maintenance on our vacuum - things that normally a shop would try to sell you a service plan so you can bring it in and have *them* do it. If you're in the market for a vacuum or looking for someone to repair an existing one, I wouldn't hesitate going to ABC for a minute. I also realized after buying our vac that ABC has a website and is well known on the internet for their great prices and stellar customer service. Kudos to ABC for providing the caliber of service that seems to have been long since forgotten by many other retailers! read more

Knowledgeable: This is a VERY small store but they carry a big variety of brands for comparison and they are VERY knowledgeable. I was shown all the qualities of the Sebo Airbelt K and was sold! Great Service: After several months of heavy use, the filter bag did not seat properly(user error it turns out) . I brought the vacuum to the store and in minutes they replaced a part and a filter at zero cost to me. I love ABC and I love Sebo! read more

Contacted them through Yelp about my Dyson that wasn't engaging the brush properly and received timely replies. I brought my vacuum the next day and they offered to fix it right away if I had about 20 minutes. I ran another errand and when I came back it was ready to go. She also explained why my vacuum sometimes makes a horrible noise and how to fix it if it happens again. I have done business with these folks the past 20 years. They don't see me much as I haven't had any problems with the vacums I bought from them. I had an orack and traded it in on a SEBO which I love love. Also bought a great canaster vacum for my cars. All have been great products. My kids just bought me a roomba for mothers day and I called them to be sure they could service it as I will not deal with any vacum dealer except them. I took my Kirby upright vacuum in because it wouldn't turn on. It turned out to be the switch, which was replaced that day. Manny also fixed the bag attachment which wouldn't connect properly to the unit. The friendliness, professionalism, efficiency of all who work there as well as Manny taking the extra step will keep me coming back. You have a bad vacuum. Or one that is working poorly. You need to drive to the vacuum shop. Bummer! - there are so many other sexier places to drive to. Well, maybe it's time we lose yet another preconceived idea. ABC vacuums in Austin is the best place to hang after that bar downtown with the pool table. Heck, I wish I was invited to their happy hours. They're cool, energetic folks who help you with a smile and solve the problem in 3,2,1.... especially Crystal - she was awesome and fixed the dead vacuum in 30 seconds. Better yet, I even got this amazing gigantic pink pen, that can be used to direct traffic, shine in the dark, and even write. It also has a big ABC on the side. After I drove with my dead vacuum to the Oreck store and saw its doors closed, I felt like an orphan. But these guys are the best adoption vacuum parents that I could wish for. I was literally left hanging with a broken purifier and Greg saved the day by getting me a new one while under warranty and communicated to me even when the repair part was on back order. I was referred to ABC after taking my vacuum to another repair shop. Said repair shop refused to look at it (said they didnt service Bissel) and proceeded to try to sell me on a $300 vacuum. I then took it to ABC and the guy cleaned the filters, sucked out the clog and sent me on my way without charging me a dime. I bought some fancy vacuum freshened for the sake of fairness. I was cleaning my dyson and apparently I removed a piece I shouldn't have because I couldn't get it back into place. It was difficult to find a place to fix a dyson and there are no authorized service places in the area. ABC was recommended on Nextdoor. I was disappointed at first because they did not return by call when I left a message. But when I called them during business hrs they were very nice. UPDATED 11-Jan, after a 9-Jan phone call from the owner of the business. I was called within hours of my review posting. Right now, I am extremely pleased with the resolution of my issue. Will update this again once closed. UPDATED: Exceptional resolution to my issue. Owner went above and beyond and showed that indeed customer service is a priority. I will continue to be a customer of ABC Vacuum Warehouse - they earned that. I have a machine that's gotten lost in the shuffle of their repair process. It's been at the store for 2 months now. I was very unhappy at how this was dragging out when I posted my original review. The owner of the store happened to be out for the holidays so not available/involved. He called me indicating he wanted to remedy the situation and spelled out what they were doing about it. He had just received a new machine (same model as mine) that he offered to drive to my home 50 minutes away to deliver as a loaner until they are able to get my machine fixed. He also explained exactly what they are doing to prioritize my machine to be tested and repaired asap. I am extremely pleased with his response. It must be difficult to contact very unhappy customers :). He did just that and offered a really great solution. He seems truly concerned about doing the right thing to ensure happy customers. He made NO REQUEST for me to update my review. I am doing that on my own because of his sincere response. Below is my original review: I took my Oreck Oribiter into their shop for repair Nov 16. I was told they were busy and it would be 3.5 weeks. I respect that. I appreciated the information and agreed to leave it. It took 4.5 weeks. I took it home and tried it out and it wasn't fixed. It overheated and shutdown - the problem I needed fixed. Fairly frustrating after waiting for it to be repaired 4.5 weeks. Took it back Dec 22. Was told I would be moved to the very first of the queue because it was return repair. I took that literally because they were still open a couple days before Christmas. I called Dec 30 and was told it was ready (the repair person was off that day). Drove the 50 minutes to the shop. It hadn't been looked at yet. A 2nd ticket hadn't been logged by repair so the person answering the phone only saw the original ticket and the "closed" status from the first failed attempt of repair. Left with no unit. Here it is Jan 8, I've heard nothing so I called. It STILL HAS NOT BEEN LOOKED AT. It has now been in that shop nearly 2 months and I've made FOUR trips to the store. I did talk to the repair person today who informed me that he can only work to repair units when he is not busy up front. Working the store and front counter takes priority. read more
