Very, very unfortunate what has happened to 54th Street. My family and I used to come here every other week, and it was one of our favorite places for family dinners. We always looked forward to ordering the crab cakes and calamari, but the quality of the food and portion sizes have changed drastically. The crab cakes were especially disappointing. You now receive two very small, heavily breaded crab cakes that no longer have the same flavor or quality they once did. The corn succotash served alongside them was overwhelmingly vinegary and difficult to eat. Next came the calamari appetizer, which was just as disappointing. It was over-fried with an extremely hard breading, and the calamari itself had a strange, spongy texture. It honestly tasted similar to imitation crab meat, which I didn't even think was possible for calamari. It was very unpleasant and not at all what we've experienced here in the past. This used to be our go-to spot because we genuinely enjoyed the atmosphere and the waiting staff, we've built great relationships with a few of them. The drinks are still good, and the overall vibe of the restaurant remains enjoyable. Unfortunately, based on this visit, I'm not sure we're willing to give it another chance unless things return to the quality they once had. Considering the price we paid compared to the food we received, we were so disappointed that we decided not to order our entrées. Instead, we wrapped up our meal and headed to Brass Tap House. This is one of my semi regular stops for lunch if I'm in the area for work. I typically order the same thing because it is just that good. I get their lunch special of chicken salad sandwich and chicken tortilla soup. The soup is a big bowl instead of a the small cup most places give you. The chicken salad is one of my favorites. I could just eat it by the spoonful. When I have ventured to something else, their burger always hits the spot. It is cooked to your specifications and comes out juicy. The chicken fried chicken is also good. The one must have I always order, always, is their fried pickles. They have a coating on that I swear tastes like nacho cheese Dorritos and I can eat a whole order myself. Service is always quick and friendly. The gentleman at the host stand knows I always prefer a booth and takes me to one without having to ask anymore. Also a great place for happy hour. This was our go to to take family because it has a menu for everyone. Last night's dinner visit was way down on our place to go for family of 7 dinner. Did a wait list fir the max 6 guests and we still waited 10-15 mins to be seated even though the restaurant was less than half full. The waiter wasn't very clean looking. We waited at least 30-40 mins for our food and the quality of our usual shrooms, Havana club, chicken fried steak and fish tacos were all not hot and didn't taste as good as in the past. Favorite for in town shopping! We often end up in the Costco area of McKinney and love this restaurant. Today I tried the chicken Bocatini and my mother had the Lieutenant Dan fried shrimp. We also got the bread and butter appetizer as well as they fried pickles. NewYork cheesecake!!! Yummy! Everything was delicious. The restrooms were clean and our waitress was friendly and efficient. Went there on 6/30/26. Very disappointed with the "SPINACH + ARTICHOKE CREAM PASTA CHICKEN & SHRIMP." The food came warm not hot, and dry with hardly any sauce, it was like cardboard. It seemed previously cooked, not fresh. My partner ordered country fried steak and he loved it. I asked for more sauce, but it didn't help. I was impressed by the kind hospitality that began the minute we walked up to the door. We were greeted by the hostess who held the door open for us. We were seated and it didn't take long for our server to come over and get us started on our lunch. Beer and a burger sounded great! The pilsner we chose was cold and tasted great. The burgers were not skimpy and the fries were seasoned perfectly. Our server was attentive and pleasant. We have been to Union Bear, which I think is a comparable restaurant, but we stopped going there due to the very loud noise level and the inability to carry on a conversation without yelling, whether inside, outside or at the bar. 54th has that issue covered. The acoustics are such that the background music can be heard but it doesn't interfere with people talking and enjoying each other's conversations. The ambiance here is definitely inviting--there's quirky art and decor everywhere, making it fun to look around as soon as you walk in. The staff was really friendly and attentive, but I have to admit, I wasn't a fan of my experience overall. We started with the cheddar biscuits, which were $2 each. They were big and fluffy, but a bit dry and not quite worth the price in my opinion. Definitely not the buttery goodness I expected, like Red Lobster's. We also tried the "Fry Me Some Cheese" appetizer. It was okay, but I thought the parmesan on the marinara was a little heavy--it's just a personal preference, though. My boyfriend loved his burger, but I didn't enjoy the Southwest Chicken Wrap. The dressing was really watery, and it made the tortilla strips soggy, so I wasn't too impressed. The servers (at least 2)have long hair completely all over the place to the point of having to constantly flick it back out of their face, then menus being taken from a Not joking! It's very inviting, but it is quite loud so if you're trying to have a conversation, it's not the place to go. It is the place to go if you want to watch the game have a good food be loud if you want to be and have fun. The service is good but could be better. That's really not their fault. It's because they're so busy. There's probably too many tables at this place as there's not easy to walk around especially if you're picking up to go. It's very packed. I like the fried pickle appetizer and the Brussels sprout side with the feta cheese, it was very delicious. White Sangria drink was not bad either, I can taste the hint of mango and coconut. I also ordered the chicken tortilla soup ( it was okay but was not the best, it tasted very "beanie" like having refried beans). The service was top notch. I'm giving this a Five star review because we have been there twice in the past month and we were not disappointed. The ambience is great. It's clean and inviting. Our service has been on point each time. My wife is a very plain, picky eater so when we ask to make adjustments to our order they have been very obliging. I ordered the smash burger and it comes just the way I like them. They have that crust or crispy edge. Very flavorful and delicious. Instead of fries I order a side salad. That salad is as good or better than this genre of restaurants I have been to. My wife ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich and she loved it. There lunch menu is incredible. this was my first time here, and i honestly thought it was going to be good because they had a full house for a friday night. spoiler alert: we were wrong so they sat us down and it took a hot minute for the server to come. we ordered all of our food, and then took a sip of the water. it tasted foul. it had a super metal-y taste and we were so thirsty we just shot the water down. i ordered the cherry cream soda, and when i received it, i thought it was weird that it had a yellowish color. usually artificial cherry products are red. the server than asks me to try it bc it might be wrong and they would have to change the valve. i tried it and i told her it probably tasted right. and she said okay and left. i told her i had never tried something like this before, so i was very confused as to why she would have me try something that might not even be correct?? usually as a server, i would try it myself if it looked suspicious. the entire exchange just made me uncomfortable. then we received our fried pickles. these were the BEST fried pickles that ive ever had in my entire life. they were juicy, thick, and the batter was PERFECT with the pickles. this is probably the only thing i would come back for. then we received our entrees. we got our food but no napkins or utensils. we then had to flag our server down to get us some. usually this is one of the first things a server brings to the table. at this point we did not have a good opinion on this establishment. the food also looked subpar. the burger looked super dry, and the pasta looked like something out of a college dorm. they also did not ask us how we would like it to be cooked. the pasta was a bit better than cheesecake factory, but it was under-seasoned. the best part was the garlic bread. the burger was super dry and the only good part was the french fries. my friend theorized that it might have been because we were younger patrons that we were being treated this way. we then closed out our check and headed to the bar. it took a minute for them to get to us, and the guy next to us told us we probably have to wave the bartender down as they were not very good at their job. we got the painkiller, and it is more juice than alcohol. but personally i dont like alcohol that much. presentation wise it was not the same as the picture online but at least the drink tasted good. read more
