This was a neat restaurant. I generally enjoy pho but don't eat it too often as it's very filling and hearty. But pho is delicious. This place had really really cool items. Lots of fusion dishes. Vietnamese style tacos. I've never heard of that before!!! Our server was really great! She recommended we only do the pho and summer rolls as the pho was massive. I'm so happy she said that. Did not like what it did to the soup. Ambiance: The atmosphere was pretty cool. It felt hip and tries to incorporate art into the decor. They had an interesting book shelf for a bathroom entrance. Had a good laugh watching someone try and open the bathroom door by prying the book shelf open. Honestly, the choice of music and volume of it was too much for my preference. Made it slightly difficult to be fully comfortable. Staff: The service from the staff is what carries this review. They were extremely accommodating and made sure that each table was attended to regularly. The gentleman waiting our table was awesome. Felt really nice. Take away notes: personal tastes aside, the restaurant is doing great. Unique twist on traditional Vietnamese cuisine. I found this place through Instagram and I originally came here for the banh xeo tacos and they did not disappoint. We order two different banh xeo tacos and then a bowl of pho as well. The flavor was there and reminded me of the comfort food I grew up eating. The ambiance of the restaurant is also great. They had a choice of outdoor sitting and indoor sitting. Even the veggie spring rolls come with fish sauce and I wish there was a veggie taco option. That being said, we ordered the vegetarian banh mi and the veggie dumplings. Banh mi - I asked for this spicy and they definitely delivered! This looks and tastes different from other veg banh mi I've tried as they use soy protein instead of tofu, but it's delicious. So I was excited to try the Viet tacos. Sadly they didn't live up to the hype. The pork filling was good but the taco shells was soggy. Overall it felt like something was missing. The bahn mi was probably the best part of the meal. The bread was good without cutting your mouth and it had the same yummy pork filling that the tacos had. The mango salad was decent and quite big. The pho was pretty standard but nothing too crazy. Overall I feel like nothing was out of the ordinary. I could've gotten this on Baxter Street for cheaper and faster. I've visited the Brooklyn location so it wasn't my first time having their pho--their broth is very tasty!! I was happy to have the veggie spring roll option as there are usually only pork available. My husband and I love 5ive Spice's Brooklyn location and were ecstatic about the opening of the LES location! What's even better about the LES spot is that the interior is much more spacious and allows for a more comfortable dining experience once indoor seating resumes. I had lunch here with my girlfriend to celebrate Valentine's Day. The return of indoor dining has been exciting, and they take it very seriously here: employees wear masks and gloves, temperatures are checked, and hand sanitizer is widely available. I felt safe and secure at my table. The menu has lots of interesting items for a Vietnamese fusion vibe. You can get a staple, like a banh mi, or something unusual, like tacos. I ordered the regular beef pho, while my girlfriend went in a more adventurous route, opting for the short rib pho. My food was delicious, a big bowl of flavorful broth with a fair portion of noodles and several pieces each of brisket and round. I added in all the cilantro, Jalapeños, and bean sprouts, then stirred everything together. This is a solid bowl of pho, superior to what I've had at some of the more popular places in the city. My girlfriend's short rib pho was also outstanding. The meat was delicious, tender and properly seasoned, and plenty of it. The broth is a variation on the normal recipe with exciting flavors from different sources. We wholeheartedly recommend. One of the best Bahn Mi sandwiches I've ever had was here at 5ive Spice. The Lemongrass Porkchop was delicious; the meat was tender and flavorful and the bread was crunchy and baked well. Despite there being a few mixups with our order, staff was attentive, stayed super polite the whole time, and never rushed us to leave (we came and stayed pretty close till closing time). Originally we ordered the beer battered fish banh xeo (which was crunchy, refreshing and delicious), but we were brought the banh mi version instead. They let us keep it for free anyways! The fish was flaky and tender inside, with a beautiful fry (if you read my other reviews on here, you can tell i'm a big fan of places that really nail the 'crispy' part!). Had to check this place out after seeing it on Mike Chen's video. Came here on a Friday night around 8 PM and was able to get a walk-in table right away. They have a Yelp check-in offer that gives you free dumplings/rolls, but they won't add the discount to your check until you leave a Yelp review. And while I understand that they want to encourage people to leave reviews, I felt a bit rushed in putting together a review for a meal I had barely just finished, especially as someone who tries to not have their phone out during meals with others. The service was good and the restaurant had a modern / trendy ambiance. The bathroom is also hidden in a bookshelf which is very fun. As for the food: Spring rolls: My favorite! The rolls were so good and perfectly crisp on the outside and paired perfectly with the dipping sauce. Special Pho: Great tender steak, good variety of meat, and flavorful broth. Veggie Pho: I wasn't the biggest fan of the flavor of the soy protein. I also felt a bit weird about the choice of vegetables added into the pho such as cabbage and broccoli. It came with plentiful slices of tender beef and a reasonably sized piece of boneless short rib. The short rib itself was cooked nicely and was topped with a delicious, tangy garnish. The size of the bowl is a bit on the smaller side when compared with other restaurants that serve an "Extra Large Bowl" option. However, it is important to note that the menu did not provide any sizing information for this item. The Loaded Fries was a delicious side. It came with several morsels of angus beef briskey and was seasoned with a blend of Mexican spices and Vietnamese sauces. Although the Shaking Beef was a fresh and savory dish, it was less appealing than the 5ive Special.
