It was a nice atmosphere, and the lobster crab and mac & cheese was good. However, the food was very expensive for the small amount served. They also got my husband's order wrong and we were the only ones in the restaurant being served at the time. We were surprised by the fact that the beers are $10 each during happy hour. Lastly, the service was slow. We had to go up to the bar to request sugar, for our tea. We also had to go back up to the bar to ask if someone could take our order. read more

Definetly don't sit outside!! We have previously been here on a very busy Saturday. We had a great dinner. We arrived on a Thursday night to ask to sit outside because it was beautiful. I had to walk inside to gain silverware for our mussels well after they were delivered. We continued to wait for our food for over 40 minutes. The owner even came over and introduced himself, only to tell the waitress we were still waiting on our food. We waited 8 more minutes and no food. We cancelled our dinner order and paid for what we consumed. We walked over to another restaurant and had dinner. As we walked by an hour later, our dishes were still sitting on the table. They have no idea how to handle the outside area. read more

Absolutely the worst service I'd ever received. I'd been a server for over 20 years and I've seen it all and experienced it all. This was a Saturday night and the restaurant was incredibly quiet.......maybe 7 tables at 6:20 pm so I can't excuse the poor service for being too busy. Our waitress never greeted us but simply walked up to the table asking if we were ready to order. As one person was in the restroom, we explained that it would be a moment but we would start off with the artichoke appetizer. She ran off before offering us beverages. When she returned 5 minutes later with appetizer plates, we asked if we could have drinks. The gentlemen ordered beers and unfortunately the restaurant was out of 4 or 5 of the house beers. Two ladies had ice water and I had tea, for which I had to ask for a straw or spoon twice. I gave up and used a fork to stir my tea. (Not the end of the world, but slightly annoying.) We each ordered an entree that came with soup or salad. We ladies ordered salad, while the gentlemen ordered the soup of the day. We received our salads and at least 5 minutes passed before the waitress returned and plopped down 2 bowls of cream of mushroom soup and walked off. This was not the soup of the day the waitress specified and not what they'd ordered. I flagged down another waitress and later the hostess, asking both to send our waitress over so we could replace the soup. Our waitress did not return. After the 4 of us had finished out salads and the one had finished his soup, I was finally able to track down our server, when she went to another table nearby. When we questioned the waitress about the soup, she shrugged and said that the cook had changed the soup. When we explained that my husband couldn't eat the soup, she said nothing and just stared at him. He finally asked if he could have a salad, which she begrudgingly brought. The salads were fresh and tasty. The one gentleman who kept his soup said it was quite good. The two gentlemen ordered the shrimp and grits which was amazing. They both raved about how good it was. One lady ordered the filet mignon and I ordered the salmon. Both were good although my salmon was overcooked. What was disappointing was that her entree came with potatoes and asparagus and mine with rice and asparagus. We both asked for extra veggies instead of the rice or potatoes. What we each received were 4 small spears of asparagus. (Again, not the end of the world, but annoying.) The waitress disappeared again and never returned to check if our meals were ok or to refill tea or water. The gentlemen were never asked if they wanted another beer. (Again, there are only 7 tables being used and at least two waitresses, so I have no idea why we were treated so poorly. She finally returned and did not offer dessert or coffee, but simply asked if we were ready to leave. The waitress clearly was not trained properly, but beyond that, she simply didn't care, and made it abundantly obvious that we were an annoyance to her. When we left at about 8pm, there were only about 5 tables remaining in the restaurant. There was a nice band playing, but there was no one outside listening to them. (Also worth noting: Both gentlemen complained that the unisex bathrooms were disgusting and in need of attention. We women decided we wouldn't even venture that way. This should have been the red flag we needed to leave and gone elsewhere for dinner.) All in all, the food was good, but the fact that this brewery/restaurant was out of 4 or 5 house beers, would substitute soups without informing anyone, and coupled with the total lack of courtesy and indifference shown us by the waitress our evening was ruined. read more

I really wanted this place to be good because I like small breweries. I visited Memorial Day weekend during the Covid 19 pandemic. I did not see a single employee wearing a mask or gloves. The bar was crowed. Social distancing was not happening. It took 25 minutes to get a beer. My wife had the greek salad which in all fairness was very good. I had the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes which was mediocre at best. The experience was disappointing. read more

I really enjoyed this place. It fit in very well with the vibe in downtown Bastrop. Everyone's dinner was cooked well with the exception of a slightly overcooked fish but the sauce on it was fantastic. I would highly recommend giving this one a try! read more

I've been here twice first time experience wasn't as good as last night. Good selection of local craft beers, very friendly staff, beautiful old building with brick walls. Even tho it's far for me, I plan to go back again in a month or so, after they get the go ahead to brew and sell their own beers! We were really hoping to like this place. Every bit of food we had was bland. They need to use salt and seasoning. The quail was the best thing we had but there wasn't much to choose from off the small menu. The wait staff wasn't the best either.. it took forever to get greeted and get our drinks. Then the waiter gave us a second alcoholic drink without asking first and charged us for it. Maybe we'll go back to sit at the bar for a beer but definitely won't go back for the food. read more

First and last visit. Service was beyond horrible! The bartender let us sit for at least 5 minutes before even acknowledging us sitting at the bar--there were 4 other people at a huge bar. I picked a beer that I wanted to try from the chalkboard above the bar. The bartender looked at me like I was speaking Martian, then went to the beer taps and looked at all the handles. She came back and asked again what I wanted to drink. I told her again and she again looked at the beer taps. I told her it was on the chalkboard above her. "Oh, they need to update that" she said. She finally offered us a beer menu and we picked 2 different beers to drink. My husband's beer was poured immediately and placed in front of him. She then went to the other end of the bar, waited on another customer and walked to the outside bar. It took her over 5 minutes to pour my beer. She told us there was a large table outside and she was taking care of them--thanks for telling me how unimportant I am. We had to ask to see food menus. Honestly the menu looked interesting and we picked several things that we wanted to order. Too bad no one would wait on us. A party of 4 or 5 came in and sat at the bar also. The bartender and manager stayed at the other end of the bar and studiously avoided even looking at us or the new people sitting next to us. Finally, the manager walked halfway down the bar and said "Everything OK down here"? 7 of us replied NO! And he walked away. Are you kidding me? My husband, a very kind and even-tempered man said, "That's it. Bring us our check". The bartender tried to explain again that she was very busy with an outside table. None of us really cared. The manager stood at the other end of the bar and washed glasses rather than waIt on us. It's too bad because the beers were respectable and the menu looked interesting. The bartender only charged us for one of the two beers she poured us. Nice but much too late. read more

A friend of mine took to 602 on Main for lunch. I had the shrimp and grits and they were excellent. I've eaten shrimp and grits at Emeril's and Deanies in New Orleans and these were better. The sauce was a little spicy which made it go perfectly with one of the beers they had on tap. The service was good and everyone was friendly. I will eat there again the next chance I get. read more

My family and I celebrated Father's Day for my son at the 602 on Main for their Gospel Music and Father's Day Buffet, what a nice occasion. Of course, it's always special when you have your whole family together but the staff and management went out of their way to make sure we had one of the best days ever. The food was plentiful and delicious and our waitress, Linda, was excellent. Thank you 602 for making this a day we will cherish. read more

After an afternoon of shopping in historic downtown Bastrop, my wife and I stopped into this bar. Our bartender was very friendly and explained the different beers he had available on tap. My wife ordered a Stella Artois, served in a frosted Stella Artois glass, and I ordered a pint of IPA, also served in a frosted glass. They have a very nice, roomy, shaded patio with fans and we sat outside so I could enjoy a cigar. We would definitely stop in here again if we're ever back in Bastrop. read more

Picked this place at random while going through Bastrop with friends. To start with, I couldn't decide if our waiter was being rudely sassy, so I've been calling it saucey & it, coupled with subpar service, continued the rest of the night. Friend 1 ordered the quail & was recommended to get the double order (he was a larger man & they are small), friend 2 & I decide to split an app & a Red Fish dish, as I eat small portions, red fish is supposed to be large, we were told legends of large portion sizes & it came with topped with crab meat. Seems like should be enough for 2, right? NOPE! Quite small portion size that our waiter doesn't seem us worthy of the same warning or friend got. Adding insult to injury, it came out on a ridiculously over sized plate. We ended up getting a 2nd meal elsewhere that night we were all so hungry. Friend 1's quail was good, the boudin was good (the menu at least says how skimpy that portion will be), the fish was super bland & frankly ugly of presentation, the crab topping with capers was a sad, sad little sight that looked dumped out of a can, the accompanying mustard greens smelled & tasted gross, the dirty rice was not tasty. It was NOT worth its $24 price tag. It also took forever for the food to come out. Very disappointing after all we had been told about the greater Austin area food & the smug-swank presentation of the NOT BUSY restaurant. read more

This restaurant has great atmosphere and excellent potential. We ordered the daily special which was listed as Frito Pie on the specials board. It was in fact a bowl of lukewarm (at best) chili with a few tortilla strips on the top for presentation. We waited 25 minutes for food that should have been presented hot. I felt that our waiter was very attentive but he was also doubling as the bartender. Perhaps more staff is in order? read more

While I was recently visiting in Bastrop, Texas I had the opportunity to dine at Bastrop's new diamond of a restaurant/eatery. I started on a Friday evening and experienced a fantastic bar with a very unique cocktail menu. I personally recommend the River Mule with ginger and fresh lime. Being the nosey person I am, I asked some of the people what they were eating because everything looked so good. I started with the arugula salad with fresh lemon dressing and finished with a really good steak. No room for desert but I really wanted the bread pudding. The staff and chef are amazing (very friendly). This restaurant gets many of their products from local vendors and everything is really fresh. I had to return on Sunday for their new Sunday brunch -- WOW! This restaurant is a MUST and I can't wait for my next meal there. read more

Went to 602 on Main for the first time for Sunday buffet lunch and all I can say is wow! This place is a hidden treasure in Bastrop and should be on the top of everyone list when they are looking for a great Sunday buffet. We started off with a spicy bloody-Mary that hit every note of flavor for a Sunday morning cocktail. The buffet is different each week but know that it is all fresh ingredients. I started off with chicken and dumpling soup and could have just continued with that as my main course as it is made with true homemade broth and fresh dropped dumplings and roasted chicken. I did not stop there as I continued with the fresh delicious lemon sauce fillet fish with capers , outstanding greens in a savory broth, broiled chicken and some of the best meatballs you will ever taste. We tried it all and everything was made from scratch including the butter cream potatoes, sweet corn bread, sweet potatoes , mac and cheese, sauteed squash, and a garden salad that could be a meal in itself. We enjoyed the beautiful live gospel band as we ate our delight. The price was more than reasonable for what all we could eat and the service was great. The chef came to our table and visited with us and told us about the plans for the upcoming fall football Sundays with wings and various sauces so you can enjoy your favorite team on one of many television screens they have at the bar. I know for many Sunday is all about breakfast , but if it is 11:00 am on Sunday and your wanting to something a little more then walk on down the side walk of main street to 602 and give yourself permission to indulge!!! read more

Let me start off first by saying that I have been to this bar/restaurant about once a week for the past few months and I really like their drink selection. The service has always been so so, but my last visit was the final straw. My friend and I came for the crawfish boil thinking it was the two of us. However, my fiancé happened to drop by and surprise me during his lunch break so, we decided to ask for a bigger table (we were at a table for two). I figured this would be no issue and when my fiancé asked the waitress was super nice about it and started saying that she was happy to move us. Right as she was finishing her sentence, the manager interrupted her and very rudely told us we had to wait. There was a children's choir about to start playing so, we figured we'd just wait for one song and then be moved. My fiancé continued to stand by the manager and looked to him after the first song finished. The manager just ignored him. After waiting for about 5-10 minutes (literally standing right next to the manager) he got upset and came and stood by our table for another 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged that we had asked to move. Let me add that at the time we had asked they had 5+ empty tables available. When they finally did move us we didn't even get an apology and to top it off the manager ignored us the rest of the time. The only reason they are not getting one star is because their drinks are good and their food is decent. From now on, we'll be taking our business elsewhere because the manager clearly doesn't care about his customers. read more
