The Bread and mussel was delicious. The server was good. But the entrees are just okay. The pasta seem bland. The herb crust halibut was breaded and swim in oil. We were in on a busy evening, taking up space on the patio and only having drinks, yet our waiter never made us feel out of place or rushed. (Don't worry, we did tip heavily). Had reservations for a Friday night. Street parking is all but impossible. We were seated immediately but our table for two was more appropriate for 1. The menus hung off the table by half it was so tiny. The drinks were very heavy on the alcohol. We he'd the Tempura Shrimp Satays with Orange-Honey Dipping Sauce. My guest cannot tolerant spicy foods we thought this would be good. The tempura shrimp were very good not over cooked but the orange honey dipping sauce had pepper flakes floating in it and was quite spicy. The menu should have stated that. My guest had the Caesar salad, it was very mild but the vast majority of the lettuce was brown. We both had the Friday night special, 12oz Prime Rib, the smashed potatoes were fantastic, the flavor of the prime rib was very good but the sauce covering it tasted very tomatoey not like a red wine sauce. The sauce would have been better served on the side. The slice of prime rib was very small, definaty not 12oz. We finished the meal with their signature Molten Lava cake. The tiny cake was hot but there was no gooey inside, no rich flavor. The only saving grace was the rich vanilla ice cream that accompanied it. Average at best. We were excited to have a nice dinner before going on the Polar Express train ride and, based on other reviews, we thought this would fit the bill. Unfortunately, that was not the case at all. I had made a reservation and was told that the only availability was on the patio. The hostess convinced me that it was still warm out there and the area was enclosed and heated - do not fall for that line! It was FREEZING! We were in coats, hats and boots and had to wear them throughout dinner. Part of the problem was that the "door" to the patio was broken and every time the wind blew, it blew inside. The lack of ambiance was just the beginning. Our food was average at best - I had pork medallions that were tough and overcooked, while the bacon that they were wrapped in was undercooked. The glaze the pork was in was completely flavorless. My husband order the special - the skirt steak and said it was way below average. Our waitress was nice and did the best she could despite the cold conditions and being outside. This place looks good on paper, but I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT AT ALL! There are so many great places to eat in Durango - skip this one. read more

To be honest, this place deserves their great ratings! Excellent atmosphere, friendly staff, and there is no rushing you out the door at the conclusion of your meal, even when they are turning potential diners away at the door. I don't drink but the martinis coming from the bar always look impressive. If it is a special occasion, the staff will take a group photo and send it home with you in a nice little frame. We had a lovely dinner at Ken & Sue's. The food was really fantastic-- we had an appetizer, two main dinner dishes (including, filet mignon), 3 glasses of wine, 1 dessert, two espressos, and two after dinner drinks - with tip $134. The wait staff was very friendly. We'd love to go back, but live very far away. We encourage others to go there. The only negative was that it appeared as though they deliberately overbooked the back patio, figuring that we'd settle on staying inside. read more

Pork medallions should not be served on plate as uncut pieces of pork at least inch thick and big as palm of my hand and pork was very overcooked and very dry! Appetizer was served after our meal arrived. No one ever checked to see how everything was or how good was so this place truly falls way short of my Texas expectations . My advice. Find another eating establishment. Do not waste your hard earned money here!!!!! read more

This was our first time visiting Durango. I found this place by doing a map search, then read the reviews so we decided to give it a try after doing the all day train ride to Silverton and back. It's a small dining room but were seated right away at a nice quiet table. They have a pretty good wine list and compared to many places, very reasonable prices for the wine. My wife had her favorite white to go with her fish and I had a nice Zinfandel to go with my filet mignon. The food was excellent- my steak done perfectly- and the service was great; thanks Allison! All that and very reasonable prices. We'll be back next time we visit and if we lived in the area I know it would be a regular dinner place for us. Prime rib arrived covered in a tomato "aujus". This was like Campbell's tomato soup on top of a prime rib. Horrible thing to do to a nice cut if meat. Cut if meat: my 12 oz prime rib was slim like a roast beef sandwich, my husband's was more like a thin steak, the table next to us had a chunk like a 20 oz slab. I gave 3 stars b/c the manager immediately replaced my tomato soup prime rib with a nice clean, delicious cut of meat. The lobster quesadilla app: good amount of lobster, nice pepper relish to top, but the tortilla was too much. Maybe they should make a lobster pepper relish dip instead? The patio ambiance was nice, as was our server. Tragic thing they did to the prime rib with that dreadful tomato soup topping. read more

My husband and I have eaten here three times with no improvement in our meals! The first time, my gnocchi was so dense and tasteless that I did not eat the dish. The second time, we took a friend. Her pork chop was dry and again tasteless, she sent it back. Most recently, after swearing off the place, we had a gift certificate so decided to go back. My rice accompaniment was like a tennis ball, a big ball of over cooked rice. My husband had a pasta dish. The pasta was in pieces, over cooked! Loved the place. Very cozy. Bread basket and lemon water on the table the moment you're seated. I had the pistachio grouper, smashed sweet potatoes and asparagus. Husband had the skirt steak special with garlic smashed potatoes, their special sauteed spinach and an unusual side called tobacco onions. Everything was excellent. Dane was our very friendly and efficient waiter. We will certainly recommend this place and hope to return to Durango and Ken and Sue's again. read more

I just went here the other night and OMG! The food was amazing! Atmosphere is dimly lit and a bit loud (its a small restaurant but there is also a patio) but cozy and romantic. The bread they give you is wonderful and I got the mozzarella salad with arugala and kalamata olives. I'm drooling now just thinking about it! So so good! And I also got a side of Red and Bleu smashers (basically red potatoes mashed with Bleu cheese) and that was awesome as well. Everyone at our table loved their food as well! And the desserts were great too! All in all, this place is a must go to! read more

In Durango on vacation and found this place on the yelp app. This was a Tuesday night the week of Thanksgiving. Over an hour wait to sit inside- although we didn't see anyone else waiting, or immediate seating in an enclosed and heated patio area. The patio area was plenty warm on the cool night. Menu was good, but I'd consider their "smashed" potatoes more like mashed potatoes. The description for this place says it's not kid friendly but we brought our 5 and 7 year olds and it wasn't an issue- decent kids menu and a coloring sheet and crayons. read more

Ken and sue's used to be my family's favorite fine dining restaurant In Durango. We haven't been there for a while and returned tonight to celebrate Fathers' Day, and we were sorely disappointed. We knew what we were in for when both tables that flanked us sent at least one dish back to the kitchen. I ordered a medium steak and was presented with a mushy, purple, not even warm through piece of meat, and when I complained the waitress informed me that was "how a medium steak should be.". She seemed annoyed but offered to take it back to the kitchen to have it cooked more, which happened and then it was edible. But the potatoes were so salty that I couldn't really eat them. Also, at least 3 of our bread/app plates were very dirty. Our appetizer was delicious, as always (the calamari), but the cheesecake for dessert seemed like it was made by an amature. But the scallop special that my mom had was great. That is probably enough complaining for one night, but I will also say that our waitress seemed unkempt, and was unapologetic about the problems we were having and just laughed off our complaints. We will not be returning, there are plenty of other great dining spots in downtown durango. read more

Great ambiance and attentive wait staff. Baby greens were outstanding. The scallop special was tasty but boring: 6 scallops swimming in a rich Chardonnay cream sauce with mash potatoes in the center. The filet lacked flavor and wasn't very tender. Kids had salmon (very good) and hamburger (way overcooked). We did finish the evening with a molten lava chocolate cake that lacked the lava: my daughter was disappointed that there was no chocolate sauce to mix with the vanilla ice cream. read more
