It's tough to find decent Indian food in the New Braunfels area, and this place is consistently fantastic!

So good! I ordered online so that my order would be ready when I got there. We selected Falafel, Samosa Wrap, Butter Nan, Garlic Nan, Classic butter masala with chicken and Creamed spinach with shrimp. We selected Medium for spice and it had a bit of a kick (which was perfect). There were dozens of tubers awkwardly stumbling past the parking lot on the way to the river (tubing is big in New Braunfels) in their flip-flops. But luckily we didn't hit any of them -- just be on the lookout during summer! read more

We decided to try 7 Monk's today and drove to New Braunfels excited for Indian food, one of our favorites. We ordered the Sag Paneer and the Aloo Gobi, along with one butter naan and a roti, and then chai. When our food arrived we were confused by the lack of flavor in the dishes. The Sag Paneer had very little salt or spice, and no real body. The Aloo Gobi consisted of a few pieces of cauliflower and potato floating in what tasted like a marinara sauce. The Aloo Gobi we've had in other places has more of a curry sauce so this was a surprise. The rice and roti had very little flavor, and unfortunately the chai also tasted burnt. I hate to be so critical but we were still trying to process our experience several hours after we ate there. It was disappointing, especially because it was also somewhat pricey. read more

Today was my first time trying 7 Monk's. I ordered the onion pakora. This was so delicious and the mint and tamarind chutney were so good! I also ordered the chicken korma medium and it was pretty spicy. Next time I will order mild so my 1 year old can eat some too. The roti was a little dry. I like to support small business. Decided to retry 7 Monks Cafe. I tried them when they first opened. Since the first time I tried them, I have eaten food in India as well as multiple other restraunts around our country. We ordered the butter chicken, Dahl, and roti. Something is wrong with their spice mix. The Dahl was cayenne forward. It overpowered all of the other spices in the dish. Butter chicken was also bland and missing a number of flavors. Roti was small and not fresh. Overall, I was disappointed and will find other places that are more true to the quality and taste of India. read more

This place really feels like a diamond in the rough. I first discovered it by myself and this place is really a hole in the wall, there wasn't a soul in sight! However the staff was still very friendly and served me very quickly. I ordered the pesto wrap with beef shawarma and the feta fries and oh my goodness, the food is so delicious! The meat is juicy and tender and they serve you the vegetables on the side so you can only add want you want and the vegetables taste fresh and tasty! The fries are sort of just regular cut french fries with feta sprinkled on them. They're a bit soggy, but adding the white sauce to them makes them all the better! I took my partner here on a separate occasion and they were blown away as well! This place definitely deserves more business, 10/10 will be going again! read more

I'd like to call this place the Indian/Mediterranean Restaurant by the river. This is literally the last restaurant before the train track and it's a deadend. You'll know your at the right place because there are a lot of people in swimsuits and tubes standing around to float the river. This is a great spot to be if you are craving some local Indian/Mediterranean food. The dishes here are so flavorful and there's a lot of entrees to choose from. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma Wrap and my husband ordered the butter lamb masala. The wrap is delicious! They put the veggies and toppings on the side, but this will get you full. They are super generous on the chicken added. The masala is also good too and you are able to choose the protein to add to the dish. Don't forget to also order the samosas. It's also amazing. The veggie samosas are awesome, they we've it with a hot sauce and a sweet sauce. Also, FYI, they only serve the chicken samosas from Friday to the weekend. Lastly, if you want a refreshing drink, order the Mango Lassi. It's sweet, thick like a smoothie and it's hits the spot. Definitely will come by again. I really appreciate the fact that they are very aware of dietary needs. Not by my choice, I can't eat gluten and dairy so finding places to eat can be hard at times. I was excited that they had a broad menu and that they offered Mediterranean and Indian foods as well as sandwiches (probably for those who don't like the other food?) I ordered the green curry dish on the gf menu with lamb (because the chicken is marinated in yogurt) and it was really disappointing. Barely any flavor. The lamb chunks are huge and kind of tough, there was some big chewy chunks of fat left on the lamb. I went home with the leftovers and looked up a recipe online to add more spices to it so I could finish it. My dad ordered a toasted sandwich. One side was burnt. The hummus was terrible. Gritty with again, not enough spices. Seriously. Hummus is not hard to make it has like 5 ingredients. It needed more tahini and lemon juice. It almost looked as if it had been previously frozen or something. Anyways grocery store hummus was better than this. The guy at the register was super nice and accommodating. The three stars are for him helping me figure out the menu and what I can eat. I would maybe go back and try something else only because he said he's usually the cook and he was stuck up front today...idk. Other reviews said the food was bland and they're right. The inside of the place didn't look super nice. I feel like they could at least tidy up and hide the stuff in the back (looks like a lack of storage space). I was so hype to go get some Indian food that was closer than AT and SATX.... AND had vegan options! I'm so grateful for the 1star ratings I read before making these, as all the things said I related with. I kind of feel like the 5 star rating are from folks who have only had Indian food from this place or never at all. Absolutely by the observance of clientele when I was there, it seemed bland basic food might be a normal thing. I got the samosas(Doug hey on the inside), pakoras(pretty good), aloo gobi and Chana masala. Im grateful I ordered to go because I had to add Garamond masala, cumin coriander and salt to make it taste like what I thought I was purchasing. This food is so bland yall. I would not recommend. Being an eater and a cook, things were cooked with canned tomatoes and frozen cheap bread. Oh and the chutneys: green was a flavorless Mexican salsa that uses parsley instead of cilantro and the tamarind chutney was like sugar water with coloring. Just ... no. Okay and this is where I'm not into everyone asking for a tip. The service is quite 'meh' like nonchalant kinda just want you to hurry up and order so they can chat with their friend energy. And then turns the screen around like a tip should be a thing. Girl, no! Also, I got a lot of stares when I was picking up my food. Like straight up just staring at me like I was glowing bright pink with an elbow sticking out of my forehead. Honestly, I think that's this part of Texas. We really enjoyed the food we ordered from 7 Monks Cafe. I ordered the butter chicken in medium spice. It didn't taste spicy, but my nose is running. Its something I had not tried before and am very glad I did. It was delicious. The samosas were perfectly cooked and tasty especially with the sweet tamarind sauce. My husband really enjoyed his shawarma plate. I got the Indian pickle to try. It was an itty bitty serving for $$. It had a unique flavor that I can't pinpoint but I loved its saltiness. I would definitely order from here again, but plan for pick up. The delivery fees/fees/tip was 1/3 of our total bill. We were missing the roti we ordered and that is the only reason I gave 4 stars. read more

It's hidden, tucked behind Landa, and you wouldn't see it unless you were looking for it. Which is a shame because the food and the service is amazing!!! You can get varying levels of spice... I like mild but my husband likes his curry "Indian hot". So there's plenty of options for both of us. I'm vegetarian and there is also a lot of vegan/vegetarian options. Fresh, hot, and delicious. And it's simple inside but I think so cute. New Braunfels was in dire need of a good Indian restaurant and 7 Monks exceeds my criteria of great Indian cuisine. I love Indian food so much and I'm just so happy this place exists now! (They were open before at a different location, but it was a different concept and wasn't really sit down/made to order). Last thing... you can order on their website ahead for pickup. Took me 10 minutes to drive there and it was ready and waiting for me when I arrived. Made the pick up process very fast and convenient. They should retitle this place 7 Monk's Cafe and 3 Village Idiots! Went here this afternoon and ordered the BEEF platter. I was served the chicken platter and stated to the cashier (female dumbass) that I don't eat dark meat chicken. Upon getting the wrong food; I was told my the cook (most likely stoned) that he would make my meal correctly. After 20 mins of waiting, I walked up to the front where I saw the cook reading his iPhone. He stated he totally forgot my order, seriously, your one job is to cook food.... Can you not do this correctly? I asked for my money back to where the female cashier stated the manager was the only person who could give me a refund. What? I paid cash! That's when some other dude walked up abs gave me $12.75. I said, I paid for the beef and you owed me a dollar plus tax! Seriously, if this is the best help they can get, close the place down! You weren't too busy on a Saturday afternoon and I'm certain there's a reason for that! Don't go here unless you want to be disappointed! read more

We ordered food from here while at work, to be delivered by door dash. We had two bags of food and we only received one bag. Two people were missing their meals. When we contacted them, they just offered a refund. That's not helpful when you didn't send someone their lunch. I am not sure if I should be more frustrated with 7 Monks or with door dash, but the restaurant should at the very least ensure all the food in an order goes out together. The food was good and I wouldn't mind eating there again but I was just so frustrated with how the mistake was handled. read more

This is a new combination Indian Cafe, coffee bar and comic shop which opened in downtown New Braunfels near the little wooden houses that normally house art shops, healthy food joints and sometimes antique places. The owner of this comic book shop is in partnership with the award-winning owner of bonjour Texas sandwich shop in gruene. By the way these panini press sandwiches made by bonjour can be found at many coffee shops around several cities and now included in this coffee shop you could buy one of the nice panini press sandwiches, or since the owner is Indian there is a big selection of prepared Indian curries in here which they will warm up for you. The place has a lot of long tables in it haphazardly placed. there is nothing on the walls no decorations I believe they need to fix this place up and make it more appealing hence why I'm not giving them the 5th star. I had a double espresso with one oz of milk. It was pretty smooth but I think I'll get a latte next time. It was a bit strong for my stomach. read more

I was excited to visit this restaurant as it was recommended by another restaurant owner in the same culinary. Ordered 2 dinners, both chicken shawarma platters. We received 2 chicken salad bowls. When I brought the mistake up to an employee, the one who took my phone order. Instead of correcting the order, she insisted I ordered it incorrectly when I told them I was missing the bread and rice that was included in the platter. I would have paint the extra to get what I wanted to eat for dinner, but again employee insisted I ordered it incorrectly. Also asked for sauces that were not included with the phone order. It was very busy inside. Another patron was waiting to have their order corrected too. I am not sure how the food tastes, haven't tried yet, but the service really turned me off and I want a better first experience than what I received, so we will not be returning. For such an easy error to have been corrected it's not worth going back. read more

It was our first time here and we chose it because it has a great variety on the menu, vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options. I had the chicken tikka masala and the Greek style fries. She ordered the falafel appetizer and the beef Shawarma plate. My food was fantastic. The tikka masala was perfectly spiced. The fries were good but could've used some sort of sauce or another topping along with the feta cheese. It was just kind of plain. The falafel on the other hand was dry and un-appetizing. We each ate one and left the rest. I did not try it but she was not impressed with her beef Shawarma. Both were good portions and hot and the staff was very friendly.
