This is my very very very favorite place to go for a nice dinner and/or cocktails. The bar is beautiful and the service is friendly and attentive. My favorites- raw oysters, filet, and pana cotta. I recently tried the buffalo carpaccio which was delicious and the salmon ceviche which was not. For cocktails, you can't go wrong with either a dirty martini or an old fashioned. read more

This is a fairly new Resturant in Lafayette and uses the old front building for its home. The building itself is outstanding and had been in Lafayette for ever, back to the bootlegging days of probation. So just a chance to see the building and the outstanding wood crafted 200yr old bar is worth the trip. The food was also fantastic - good as most not better than really any high end steak house but I would recommend the place to go out on a cool date and have a fun time. I would have given this place 5 stars but the chef can be moody and that you ask for something and the wait staff will say let me see if the chef wants to do that and sometimes it's yes and sometimes it's no. And I'm not talking about anything extreme, I'm talking about maybe getting an item that is technically on the dinner menu but it's lunch time or vice a versa. My husband and I had the prime rib for two and it was awesome! It was very tasty and delicious. The atmosphere was wonderful and romantic. We would definitely recommend this restaurant for large parties or intimate nights with your partner. The only reason I did not give it 5 starts was because we were seated in the corner next to a large party of 8. We wanted a little more privacy. read more

This place could be great if they fired the manager and some of the wait staff. Drinks are good and food tasty... Service - one of the worst I've experienced. Server seemingly stoned, long waits for orders, food delivered cold three times, no steak knives for steak until we asked for them... whew ... How to turn a lemon into lemonade? 740 Front did it. I had one bad experience a couple of months ago, by an inexperienced waiter and I vowed not to return. The week before Christmas, I had to host some friends for an early steak dinner in Louisville. 4p is really not a typical time for dinner, so I called this restaurant as my last option. Glad I did. Not only they were flexible in accommodating my early dinner request, they remembered me the moment I stepped in. The same waiter came by and apologized for being a newbie back then, and apologized for the episode. All good on my book now. We ordered two portion of steak for two, one medium and one medium rare. They were done just right. My medium rare steak is the best of the month. :-) Appetizers and desserts were equally good, and serviced very timely. We will be back. read more

We live in old towne Lafayette and have been meaning to try this place for a long time and, honestly I'm sad it took us this long now that we've tried it. The restaurant itself is incredibly cozy and welcoming and the staff was very attentive. We had amazing service from the time we walked in :) We ordered a bottle of wine and had the artichoke appetizer, which was absolutely delicious. My husband ordered the pork shank special and I had the filet and crab (both of which were prepared and cooked perfectly). So so yummy! It's a great date spot- a bit pricey but to me, well worth it. Last night my wife and I and two friends had the most unique dining experience at 740 Front. Unfortunately "unique" is not always good. The dining "experience" took three hours and ten minutes. It took over an hour just to get the bottle of wine we ordered. It was a pleasant summer evening and we enjoyed the long visit with our friends but three plus hours for dinner does set a personal record for me. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy. We assumed the waiter was just entering his training phase of his new profession. I strongly suggest management offer a bit more adult supervision for newbie wait staffers until they are able to shed their training wheels. I really want to like 740 Front, but no matter how many times we go back, it misses the mark on food, service or both. Service is best described as amateurish-- from inattentive, to unprofessional to condescending. It's not unusual to have missing items from your order or entrees come out at vastly different times. The service would be fine if this was a Denny's, not for "fine dining in Louisville". On top of that the owner/manager (not sure which he is) can often be unapproachable. Food quality is inconsistent. We've received dishes where one visit is a hit but the next time is a complete miss. Cold food, burned food, it runs the gamut. Price is on the higher-end, and if the food and service quality was better and consistent, it could be worth it. But from the last three visits, we find it difficult to recommend 740 Front. read more

Visited 740 Front last night and it was wonderful! Service was friendly and efficient but not obtrusive . Shout out to the 2 bus-men. They were so nice and polite, my water was never empty and empty plates were whisked away immediately! Our waitress (I can't remember her name but she had reddish hair in a bob with glasses) was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and the wine. She made some excellent recommendations. Omg the food! It was sooo yummy I wanted to lick the plate! I had the Japanese Sea Bass and it was cooked perfectly and the capers and sauce were yummy but not overwhelming. Finished with the brownie, and coming from someone who doesn't do dessert, it was warm and gooey and had the perfect crunch on the crust! I will be back again soon!! read more

I'm totally disappointed. After a long day getting off late from work I didn't want to cook because I was tired I wanted a good cooked meal. I came here and was impressed with the renovated historic building, however not impressed with the food. The soup came out luke warm and my sons clam chowder was green with a large branch of a rosemary stick in it! Our entree's was about ok but seemed low quality and not fresh, my son's asparagus was burnt and black and did not taste too good. I let the waiter know about the soup and the entree it was not fresh. He just shrugged it off and offered to bring a new one. I gave the benefit of the doubt and the waiter raved about the peach pie for dessert and how a lady out near Estes park bakes the pie and has for 50 years, well the peaches very obviously came from a can! The coffee creamer had chunks in it like it was expired. I hardly ate the pie and I ate about 1/4 of my entree, I decided I didn't even want to bring the leftovers home. The waiter saw we hadn't eaten much of the food yet we still got charged $81! Honestly I feel duped, high priced food should have high quality and taste fantastic. My advice if you are going to come here check out the building and historic bar but don't eat the food. What a let down and now after tip and everything I'm basically out $100 for nothing, what a waste. It's hard to find a seafood restaurant in Colorado esp. when you moved from New York. This restaurant is not a seafood restaurant in the true sense, but it was recommended. Seafood was great, and the burger was also great. And it was not pricey. Service started out a bit awkward (not sure how to describe it) but improved quickly. I usually pay with a credit card, but I had cash today. So I paid $78 bill with one $5o bill and 3 $20 bills, and the wait staff asked if I would like to get change. Although the service was good, that would have been 40% tip. So I asked to give me back $15, which was over 20% tip. I got $15 back with 2 $5 bills and 5 singles. This made me very unsure if my calculation was correct (or if my tip calculator was correct) or if I gave him 1 $50 bill and 3 $20 bills. I checked my wallet, and indeed I did. So here is the shout out to the wait staff - I left over 20% tip! The missing one star is the bread and the butter. Just a personal taste - I am not a big fan of sour dough bread and flavored butter. We were so full that we could not try the bread pudding. read more

Last night sat outside with my best friend bottle of wine, noshed on buffalo carpaccio, caprese --- shrimp and scallops. Truly lovely listening to the live music. Also liked the wines they had on tap, especially good value for the Sanford Chardonnay. Not sure when I will be back in town but know I will return. read more

A friend in California recommend we try 740 Front while on our visit to Denver and the Rocky Mountains and we are glad we did. We came for brunch on Sunday and the food was delicious. My husband and I had the Eggs Benedict (his with corned beef, mine with just spinach) and the kids tried the flapjacks and the french toast. I made my son save me some of the french toast - it was orangy and zesty and light and, with a little chive butter, was mouthwatering. The building is beautifully restored and rich with history. You can see the bullet hole in the original wooden bar, left over from an old saloon dispute. The menu gives an overview of the history of the building, the town and the saloon culture of the early century and the kids loved the stories of the tunnels between saloons and the ghost in residence, Samantha who lives on in the basement! Well worth a visit - and only a short drive from Denver. We will be back! read more

Every time we go to this place we have a problem, ie: poor service, cold food that has to be sent back to the kitchen etc. This time we were seated at a table that had the air blowing on us. When we moved to another table, we had the same problem. When we asked if we could be moved, the only tables they could find for us were unacceptable, especially since half the restaurant was empty. This is all after making reservations. Seems you have to request a specific table or booth when you make reservations here! The only reason we might go back to this pretentious hole is to use a gift card given to us. That's if we can't regift it to someone else first ! read more

We came here for restaurant week. Fun atmosphere, great hostess and bar staff. The appetizers were great with good flavorings. My steak was stringy and chewy. Three of the 4 women ordered Caesar salad. All three of us felt it was too fishy and anchovy heavy. When we asked for garden salad instead, the manager came over and proceeded to inform us that we "must have never had Caesar salad before, because that is the way it is supposed to taste" he went on and on "mansplaining" how Caesar salad should taste to us before giving us the garden salad. Four of us for dinner - fun spot. Active and lots of families, but not too noisy. Relaxed atmosphere and very helpful waiter and excellent service overall. Good selection of drinks (and beer) to start. We had devilled eggs to start - tasty, but nothing special. I would try something more adventurous on my next visit. Two of had the striped bass - a specialty of the house and really very good! My wife had the veal. It was a nice dish, but I never saw veal delivered with a steak knife (extra large one, at that!). Good dessert selection. Espresso, and to my wife's liking, decaf cappuccino as well. Check out the bar - it is a beautiful carved wood piece and about 150 years old! read more

Steaks are cooked right, love baked potato on the side. Fish dishes, like trout tasty. One room has a side of booths and tables, another is downstairs and can be used for private parties. When you go to restaurant for restaurant week you would think the food etc would be the best. You would think the restaurant would want you to come back. This was not the case, our service was very good an the atmosphere nice, the food however mediocre at best. The calamari breaded in some kind of beer batter that was mushy and salty, the calamari chewy. 2 of us sent it it back. The salad just a heep of butter lettuce, no tomatos, carrots onion, nothing.The dressing very mediocre. Entrees we're ok but not good enough to spend the kind of money they normally want. One of the people at our table had to send their meal back because it was cold.The prices are Capital Grill prices without the Capital Grill taste and quality. With as many menu items that were sent back not once did a manger come over.shame on them, I'm surprised this restaurant is still in business. read more

We are frequent patrons at 740 Front. Happy hour, brunch, dinner....all of it. Today we came in around 6pm and the hostess was about to seat us when the owner told her not to. No eye contact, no apology. He just told her what to do and walked away. Plenty of empty tables around but presumably they were for reservations. It wasn't so much the lack of getting a table, it was the dismissiveness of the owner and basically being pushed out. We took our tab to Empire where they were happy to take our money. read more

I was happy to try this restaurant since I am relatively new to Louisville. We did curbside pickup of the burger and chicken teriyaki sandwiches. Both were quite good as were the generous serving of fries. They all held up by the time we got home. The curbside service was very pleasant. I look forward to dining in when the times are better. I waited 24 hours to post this review as my wife and I have been here several times & it has always been a pleasant experience. We have even interacted with the owner on occasion which really adds to the atmosphere. This is the reason for three stars rather than less. A good month prior to the evening of Mother's Day I made reservations for a five top. To our dismay once we arrived to our reservation they directed us to a 4 top with a chair on the end. My immediate thought was poor planning and this is something you get at Cracker Barrel. Prior to being seated I asked the hostess to please see if they had something else available. As we sat there for a few minutes the manager gave several disgusted looks our way as they tried to reconfigure another 4 top into a larger table. I'm sorry that our request was a burden on the management. After a short discussion with my wife my family & I decided to spend our money elsewhere. Slow and overpriced. Nice atmosphere though. Steaks are average, and a vinegary baste is used which is unnecessary for a good steak. Calamari was excellent. House salad was poor. Service was very slow on a Friday night that wasn't busy. If you want a pleasant laid back dinner evening it may be for you. If dinner is just a part of your planned evening pick somewhere else. I am so so SO glad that we came to the 740 Front. It was an absolutely beautiful restaurant for one, the cocktails were fabulous, and the food was amazing. Try a dirty 740 Martini or the Oh La La to start, I had both. ;) Absolutely fabulous. My boyfriend has the Old School Old Fashioned, perfectly sweet and stiff. Just what you want in an old fashioned. We had the baked oysters to start and they were soooooo good. We said we would come back just for wine and oysters sometime. The bread they bring you comes with the most fabulous butter... delicious delicious bad for you butter. For my meal I ordered the wagyu flat iron with spinach and garlic mashed potatoes. It was a perfect medium rare and wonderful. The only thing was the vinegar mop sauce they use on the steak as it cooks with slightly strong so I added some of the fabulous butter that comes with the bread on top of my steak and the sugar from that cut the vinegar and it was the most amazing steak I've had in a while and I just moved to the area from Chicago. My boyfriend ordered the blackened ribeye and that was very good as well. And he didn't even give me the best part with the charred fat. Jerk ;) For dessert we ordered the panna cotta and it was sooooo good. So perfectly NOT sweet which is just what you need after a very rich meal. I can not wait to come back. Made reservations for Valentines day, they got us right in a nice booth...love the atmosphere here. ordered off of the specials menu for the night. Here is the only reason for the 3 and not 4/5 stars on this. The crab was a bit dry but still very tasty, the manager stoped by our table and we mentioned this about the crab, we wanted nothing comped we were just mentioning this, he insisted he was going to take it off of our bill... we thought nothing of it after that. The main corses were amazing, I got steak, potatoes and spinach, all three were amazing the other meal was just as amazing. we tried to get the managers attention throughout the evening to tell him how amazing the rest of the meal was but for the rest of the evening he did not make eye contact with us or stop by our table again.
