I've been to the Chophouse in Clayton several times and it's yet to disappoint me. Their steaks are excellent and the desserts are delicious. Great service and ambience for just right for a special night out. The family members with me on this night had never been before and they were gushing. All three of the loved their meals. Our sides were great too. My wife had the Ahi Tuna and it was top tier for sure. It's an expensive meal but the experience is well worth it for special occasions. Steak lovers should check off the box on this place for sure.

Alright first time here and I thought it was pretty good and not so good. The inside was very nice and spacious. The bar area was really nice. Got a couple drinks for happy hour and they tasted really good. Once we got to the table the waiter was really nice and informative of the menu and different steaks. I do want to say this places is expensive for what you get. For apps we got the fried lobster and these were so amazing but costed $95. They were crunchy, had lots of flavor and really good. Also got the down home shrimp. They were basically $8 per shrimp which they were good. Mains - ceaser salad was good but didn't really like the Parmesan thing. The filet melon had nice flavor however I ordered it as a medium but it came out as medium rare and it definitely turned me off. The dessert was okay as well

801 Chophouse truly made my birthday feel special and personal. When you walk into the restaurant the greeters show that they're happy to see you and kindly get you seated immediately. For this day we had a reservation so they knew it was a birthday celebration. They gave us a special menu that had a "Happy Birthday" on the top. This little touch goes a long way. The waiter was one of the best waiters I've had in my life 10/10. He helped detail the menu and explained to us all about the specific dishes and where their meat came from. He helped us pick certain dishes that he recommended as his favorites and was one of the kindest workers we've ever came across. The atmosphere here was perfect for an intimate dinner experience with my loved one. The lighting was a dim setting, the seating was comfortable and spacey. While looking around the art work gave a fun touch to the restaurant. The bathrooms here were gorgeous as well. The steaks here were absolutely delicious, and juicy. We tried the oysters here and they were amazing! We got the Rockefeller oysters, some of the best oysters I've had! They finished my experience off with a fun birthday touch. I was given a dessert of choice, they customize it to say happy birthday and gave me a candle to blow out. 801 Chophouse was the best birthday dinner I've had in awhile.

The food...the service...the patio!! I love a good happy hour!! And 801 never disappoints! You can eat like a emperor (I'm assuming that's a lot and good! lol). I had the grilled oysters, filet sliders and a large Cesar salad for less than $50!!!

We were in town for a special occasion this week so we took a small group here on Sunday evening. Since we were more than 4 people we got a nice table in a private room. It was really very nice. My prime rib was excellent. It came as part of a Sunday special deal and was noted on the menu as a 12-oz cut. And it was a very generous 12-oz I will say. In fact, it seemed everyone was happy. Wifey had the lamb chops and was ecstatic. Other choices around the table included halibut, salmon, and a fillet mignon. I had to laugh at their mistakes. I asked for the balsamic vinaigrette on my salad but it came out with Italian dressing. But it was pretty good Italian. Then, when the meat came out with the asparagus and not the green beans, well, the grilled asparagus was just so good too. Three scoops of sorbet for dessert (I couldn't eat it all) and some coffee was a perfect end to the meal.

This is probably the best steakhouse I've been to. Mind you, the special steaks (like waygu) are priced like you are in one of the best steakhouses. But the regular steaks are reasonable for a higher end place. I had the regular new York strip -- there was a waygu version that cost 3x, but I went for the regular. It's was quite excellent. The steaks come with no sides -- you must order them separately and the portions are large enough for about 4 people to share. Some of the appetizers were superb -- particularly the lamb lollipops. They didn't always appear on the menu so you might need to ask. Several of us considered just ordering a few of these instead of the regular menu offerings because they are so good. I found the lobster tail appetizer a bit over-breaded -- enough so that you couldn't really make out the flavor of the lobster ... It could have been chicken for all I could tell -- this is the one dish I thought was poorly conceived. If the lobster is good, why would you cover up the delicate flavor with all this breading and salt? Service was great and the wine selection was very good.

Normally I avoid chains like people avoid eye contact in NYC, but sometimes I need my vitamins aka oysters and a nice and vibing restaurant to do a little work. This is a beautiful spot. I slurped down 1/2 dozen and I felt reborn. Might be a steakhouse but I came for the mollusks. Chain rule temporarily suspended. Shhhhh. Don't tell anyone.

Nice special occasion steakhouse in downtown Clayton! They have the best oysters rockefeller appetizer. We also liked the bone marrow & tuna tartare apps. The steak was very tasty with the bone marrow butter topping, and they gave us a special birthday dessert - the Grand Marnier souffle is delicious! It was really busy, so service was a bit slow about 4 hours, but we got a lot of food and the restaurant was very full.

My boyfriend and I went here tonight to celebrate my boyfriend birthday. We got both oysters and bone marrow for appetizer. For our drinks, we got 1 bottle of heritage blend wine. From our entrees, we got the New York strip and ribeye, both cooked medium rare. Tip for our next visit: will ask for light on the salt for our steaks. It was cooked perfectly. We also ordered spinach and loaded potato sides. For dessert, we got the carrot cake. We definitely over order for the two of us. The service was great. Everything came out fast and efficient. It was a great experience overall.

Went to Clayton Restaurant week for the second year in a row and it was fabulous! We sat at the bar and ordered a drink since we were extremely early for our reservation. The espresso martini was huge, they do not skimp on the alcohol! My friend and I both had the 6oz filet medium and they were cooked to perfection and so tender. Parking is the only downfall. I spent what felt like forever looking for a spot and luckily found one in a random lot

My filet au poivre and my husband's French dip were forgettable at best. My steak was overcooked (ordered medium rare and came out close to medium well). With such a lean cut of meat, the overcooking of it ruined it. The Au poivre sauce which likely had cognac needed to be cooked off as it was extremely bitey (and salty). There was no peppery flavor at all. My cocktail, on the other hand, was delicious and well made (old fashioned) and our server was efficient, helpful, and timely. Overall I enjoyed the atmosphere. I've had the crab cake before so I didn't get it this time, and it's as good as people say. It is huge and can be shared with at LEAST two people. Its relatively small inside, but cozy. A nice touch - is they offer a free coat check, so you don't have to carry your bulky coats to the table. The service here is really outstanding- but I think a huge benefit is they cook seed oil free- meaning everything is cooked either in butter or olive oil. They source local ingredients- rotate lots of different seasonal specials and also have a chefs tasting menu. You can really tell they care about food quality here. Many of us did go with the Chefs Tasting menu which they are also very flexible about- meaning if a special isn't on the menu you can subsitute it, etc. You truly could put together your own tasting menu. They start the table with crackers and a blue cheese souffle. Then they also offer a plain bread with butter which is amazing! Such a nice touch! Then we got stone crab as an appetizer - which was a special and came with a mustard dipping sauce!! It was great- I just wished they cracked the stone crab a bit more as it was hard to get into. We got a variety of menu and special dishes- Tuna Tartare, Soup of the day- Mushroom, Mixed Green Salad, Spanish Octopus, Pasta special, Sea Bass special, Missouri Trout, and Porkbelly Special. We also had a Chai Creme Brulee for dessert. Everything tasted fresh and high quality. This is one of my favorite spots! I also love how they will bag your leftovers and leave them up front by the coat check so you grab it on the way out. They think of all the little details here. Overall experience 5/5.

FLEMING'S STEAKHOUSE - BOO HISS!!!…read more My sister Fay and I decided to treat ourselves to an elegant meal at Flemings in Frontenac. My meal was $85 (8 oz hand-cut filet mignon with 6 oz North Atlantic lobster tail & warm drawn butter).  Fay ordered 8 oz hand-cut filet mignon and stuffed shrimp with sautéed spinach, parmesan‑crusted Campari tomato & port wine demi‑glace for $68, and we shared a side of sweet corn brûlée with a brown sugar crust for $18. First of all, the restaurant is not really elegant.  It's nice enough, but no real ambience to make you feel special.  I wonder if Flemings used to be elegant before the ownership stopped caring about providing the current clientele an uplifted experience. We requested that our waiter Will, prepare our starter salads (candied walnuts, dried cranberries, red onion, campari tomato) in to-go boxes so we wouldn't fill up before our entree.  He brought a loaf of OK sourdough bread to the table (for $6 more you could upgrade to Milkbread with Lavendar Honey butter).  It took an exceptionally long time for the boxed salads to arrive and they mostly looked like a box full of lettuce.  Very unimpressive.  When our entrees arrived, the corn brûlée was delicious, but the steaks were hardly seasoned, not as tender as I expected, and undercooked  - my medium was a little closer to rare.  They forgot to bring the drawn butter and the lobster tail was still RAW IN THE MIDDLE. I only told the manager who happened to be walking by that my lobster was still raw. We let the unseasoned undercooked non-melt-in-your-mouth steaks slide. When I showed him the lobster which I had already cut into a few pieces, the manager only offered to cook it some more. I thought he would replace it with a fresh fully cooked lobster tail. At first this yahoo, who had been walking around shaking other people's hands extended a napkin for me to place the lobster tail in for him to take to the kitchen.  I placed the lobster tail on a bread plate.  I also expected that he would adjust our check for the inconvenience. NOPE! While waiting for my lobster to cook some more, we overheard the table behind us complain to the waiter that their lobster was undercooked and their steak was less than tender.  The waiter offered them free drinks and free dessert, and I believe this older white couple settled on returning the food and not paying anything. I'm usually a stickler about providing a generous tip for the wait staff, but this time since the wait staff did nothing to improve our experience, we left a 10% gratuity along with a handwritten paragraph at the bottom of the check explaining why.  We weren't angry, just disappointed.  With drinks, tax and tip, we learned a $240 lesson about Flemings.

I got the chicken pasta and it was a bit salty and one note. I also got the side of the baked potato and it was good but I don't know how you could mess up a baked potato. We also got the cheesecake and it was the best part of the dinner. Really expensive in my opinion for the way you were treated and quality of food. I probably won't be coming back as I feel like I could get a similar steak at Texas Roadhouse and get to enjoy the cinnamon butter rolls for a lot cheaper.

A few of us would stop in around 4/4:30pm and grab seats at the bar, chat, and polish off a couple beers. The bar was pretty spacious with plenty of seats surrounding it. Also, shoutout to the gentleman who served us drinks! He did a fantastic job taking care of us and even remembered us and our drink orders each day. Whenever I come back to St. Louis for work, I'm looking forward to coming back for some after work drinks!

Nothing divey about a hip cocktail or hip deviled eggs -- these are sophisticated modern twists, the exact move wine bars make and dives don't. A chalkboard of specials and weathered seating gesture at the aesthetic; the rest of the room knows. Kendall Roy of restaurants -- comes from privilege, wants badly to be of the people. It's a bit, and mostly the kitchen and bar back it up. Nevertheless, we arrived to a full room, hour wait for a table, but we fortunately arrived to snag the last first come patio table. The bar was also full, by the way, which felt neighborhood like, people clearly like this place during happy hour. The old fashioned makes the case: Old Grand-Dad Bonded, pickled rye, cognac, butterscotch bitters. Two whiskeys and a bitter you won't find at an actual dive. Rich, a little sweet. The harissa deviled eggs keep going -- fried shallots, roasted red peppers, cilantro, marinated tomato jam. You know, just like the old dive with the $1 PBR.Deviled eggs for people that don't like deviled eggs. However, we love deviled eggs...foreshadowing. The short ribs are the headline -- fall-apart tender over whipped potatoes substantial enough to stand up to the meat, gravy spot on. Eats like a perfectly executed roast dinner. The brie burger is the sneaky second hit, genuinely decadent, bacon with the cheese melting into the beef. The service was good and pleasant and that felt more like dive-friendly, where you might expect a wine "bar" to be snooty or full of themselves. 4.4 Stars Picking Nits: hip deviled eggs that reach past what they can hold. Tomato jelly on top is a lot going on, in the wrong way, and the egg disappears under it. These are trying to be hip deviled eggs more than they're trying to be good deviled eggs. Every ambitious kitchen has one plate that tries too hard; this appears to be one. A 5 needs those eggs landing, in the same way the entrees excelled. Regardless, we'll be back.
